I just wanted to say that this is, by far, the best visual documentation of Islay that I've seen - period. Nevermind documentaries etc. - this shows so much of its beauty. Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks Keith, I appreciate your kind words on this video. I wish this one had more views, but hopefully they'll pick up soon. I recommend that you visit there one day!

Been there a few years ago. Islay is such a wonderful place. And as a scotch lover especially peated whiskey Islay is a mecca that scotch lovers must visit. I've visited all the distilleries in the island. I would love to visit again!
Wow that was a great video. Loved the drone footage. I'm just getting into scotch and have yet to try an Islay scotch. I will soon though. Boy would I love to visit Islay some day. What a beautiful place.
Thanks Douglas! If you've ever wanted to visit, please do so! It's an amazing place - the people are friendly, the scenery is beautiful and so long as the weather holds out - you'll have an amazing time. Islay scotch is an acquired taste, so start with something light like Bunnahabhain and work your way up to the most aggressive ones (Bruichladdich and Ardbeg). My personal favourite is Kilchoman, has that signature peat but it has a fresh grassy note that takes the edge of it. :)

Great video, hopefully things will get back to normal and everyone could come to visit Islay and the distilleries. I've got here 12 years ago and never left, I love this place ❤️
Love this! I have seen a few distillery tour videos but I would say this is the best I've seen. I am a fan of scotch and would love to visit Scotland for a distillery tour. This video had really got me thinking seriously about it now.
Wow, thank you! And yes, you should definitely visit Scotland for some distillery tours. The people are friendly, the scenery is beautiful and the whisky is amazing. Book something and come over here, you won't regret it!
I've been to Islay 6 times in the last 11 years, didn't go for 5 years, and didn't go this year because of COVID. It's a lovely island to visit and I stay in Portnahaven when I'm there
@@UltimateBucketList Probably because of COVID, it wasn't busy. A few years ago, in the post office there, (this is no lie) they were selling like 10 tins of match attax from 2011
My wife and I returned from our Scotland trip. Although each region has it’s own beauty, Islay was our favorite. Your visual documentation mirrors our experiences.
Ah, I'm glad that this was an accurate reflection of your trip to Islay. It's a lovely island, and really nice when it's sunny! Thanks for stopping by.
Even though Whisky making is the main business on the island, it's still a lovely island to explore. You'll love the varying scenery and the interesting walks. And I think you'll also enjoy seeing what life is like in rural Scotland, away from the big cities.
@@BabyPasku might be worth exploring potentially working in Scotland for a while? But in any case, it's definitely worth visiting. The weather is meant to be good for most of the summer, so now is a good a time as any!
damn its definitely on my bucket list to go to Scotland and visit alllll the distilleries not. i enjoyed your video so much after it was over i just started it over again and watched it back to back while drinking Lagavulin 16 lol.
Lagavulin 16 is a lovely dram! And it's a cool distillery to go to. Visiting all 125+ distilleries in Scotland ... I know people that do that. I think I've covered 30 already.
Love your video. Lagavulen and Bowmore are two of my favourites. I learned a lot too. I always thought that the peat flavours came from the water and not from the peat smoke used to dry the malted barley. I will put a trip to Islay on my bucket list.
The sheer quality of your videos on a one-man crew is so impressive. Not to mention the great writing, research and performance to boot. Oh yeah and motion graphics also? Whew, I thoroughly enjoyed this thanks so much

Thanks so much for a great tour. I found it very interesting as I love malt whiskey and you did your homework really well on this place. what a beautiful Island will have to visit it some day.
Simply amazing, I've recently started my journey in the whisky world and while watching some stuff I found this piece of art. Incredible photograph and video quality, and probably the best explanation of the making-process of scotch that I've seen so far. I'm turning 30 this Sunday and I think I'll share this video with one of my best friends while we actually taste our first Islay scotch (Bowmore 12 and a Lagavulin 8) to celebrate. I'll keep both eyes on your work man!
Thank you Carlos, Happy 30th Birthday for Sunday! I hope you enjoy your first taste of Islay Whisky. It's an acquired taste, so don't be put off if you try it first time and don't like it. I think you'll find the Lagavulin 8 more palatable than the Bowmore, but take your time with both of those. Thanks for sharing this video :)
Glad you enjoyed this video ... I think I'll tour all the highland ones when I get a chance to next summer, hopefully that'll make an equally great adventure :) 👍

Just stumbled on your video in my recommendations. VERY glad I did. It would be a dream of mine to do what you just did, but with all the tours open and post COVID. Beautiful Island. Slainte Mhath! :). What about whiskey tour around Ireland next? ;)
Thank you very much! I thoroughly recommend that you make this a place you visit in the next few years or so (when life returns to normal). I'll consider doing a tour around Ireland, but with all the COVID restrictions, probably the next tour will be the NC500 ... gotta visit Dalmore! Slainte Mhath! :)
Thank you so much for this video in these times, where I cannot travel to Scotland to visit Islay. This year I planned with my father to visit Islay and it's Distilleries on a hiking tour... looking forward to next year while i watch this. Having now a serious case of "wanderlust"... Slàinte from Poland!
Thank you for your message! It's a shame that this year was such a bust for travelling. It's a great place to hike, especially if you visit the 4 distilleries in the south near Port Ellen, or the three near Port Askaig. I think you'll have a wonderful time when you come here next year. Slàinte Mhath!
@@UltimateBucketList Thank you for answering. Yes, we want to enjoy the people, the landscape and the whisky. So hiking is the way to travel. And due the fact we both are peat heads, we gonna concentrate on the on in the south ;-) But after this strange times, why not spend more time on Islay to cover all :D May we meet you there as well then, would be a pleasure! @@UltimateBucketList had I known about it I would have made every effort to go there. I was a young man when we pulled into the port next to Edinburgh Scotland when I was in the Navy. Would have loved to have gone on a tour there.
Wow - what a brilliant video - so well edited - great shots with your drone, and superb commentary. I was thinking of visiting Islay, and wanted to know where to go, and how to do it - and you have certainly answered that. They should use your video to promote the Island. Thank you.
Excellent stuff UBL!! This vid is inspirational and so friendly. We've been to Islay and want to go back. Our trip was in spring when the lambs were frolicking and there were Highland calves too. The whiskies are amazing and all so different. We had a trip planned in 2020, but COVID... Why don't you come to Australia? Certainly Oz should be on people's bucket lists! Slàinte mhath!
What an awesome video! I’ve just recently started drinking whiskey here in the US, and more specifically bourbon. I just had my first ever scotch last week; Laphroaig 10. The smoke was good; the peat was ......??? Well, not sure. Your video makes me want to try more scotch and DEFINITELY visit Islay and the distilleries in person! Thank you!
Sounds great! Glad you got into Islay whisky, as it's an acquired taste - but a rewarding one. If you've only just started, Laphroaig is a bit hardcore. If you try some Lagavulin or Kilchoman - it's nowhere near as savage. But yeah, if you ever get to visit these distilleries in person, you're in for a good time. It's interesting how the way of life is so different here than on the mainland.
You're welcome! And yes, I believe that the distilleries are now fully open. I think you're going to have a great time, and I hope that the weather holds out for you. If you get a chance, help me out by sharing this video. Enjoy your trip! :)
Thanks! Yes, it's a amazing place to be. I'm already looking forward to coming back next year for the Fèis Ìle ... if it's actually running, of course!
Just found your channel. From what I have watched so far I love your videos. May I add Tasmania in Australia has some pretty darn good whiskey if you get the chance. Hopefully COVID will be over soon so we can travel abroad again. This Scottish Isle will definitely be on my bucket list now. 🥃 😁 From Australia. 💜🇦🇺
Absolutely! Would love to come and visit Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania and everything in between. Hopefully this COVID soon will blow over and everything will be fine by next year!
When this pandemic ends, you should do a tour at Madison Square Garden. Before the pandemic hit the USA, I was going to do the tour at MSG since I live not too far away in north east Massachusetts.
Absolutely! Would love to go back to New York and actually film this for you guys. MSG would be cool, but the open-door helicopter tours of the city are what I'm dying to do!
Great video tour - very informative. I'm planning on going to Islay soon, as I'm wanting to learn more about whisky, having completed a few qualifications, now it's time to see the distilleries in action....and taste! Also will be travelling alone - do you think it's easy enough to travel between places, as I wasn't planning on driving there. Thanks :)
Hi Gillian, thanks for the kind comments. Yes, it's easy enough to get around without driving. There are buses and whisky taxi companies that will take you to these distilleries. If you stay near any of the ports, you've got three distilleries right next to you anyway and you can walk to each one. Hope that helps?
@@gillianm7210 fantastic! I'm sure you'll have an amazing time. Let me know if you have any other questions, but in the meantime, check out my other Speyside Whisky Trail video :)
Awesome video! Would love to visit Islay but from the US it'd be quite a hike. Curious if any of the closed distilleries reached out to you and were mad you went on their property? =D
No, none of the distilleries that were shut would probably say anything to me. It's good publicity for them - and I'm the sort of person that they don't want to upset! But yes, if you ever get the chance to come to Scotland - do so. It's a fabulous country and Islay is totally different to the mainland. I think you'll love the place.
Great video! I need to visit soon, being in Glasgow i’m not too far away. Would you visit Edinburgh Castle at some point? Also, RIGHT TO ROAM. Ain’t no trespass in Scotland
Yes, I think you can fly there from Glasgow International or make the 2.5 hour drive to Kennacraig. It's a beautiful place and I think you'll enjoy it. As for right to roam, I'm sure they wouldn't see it that way. As for Edinburgh Castle, I've put it in a generic Edinburgh guide video that will be released soon. Thanks Michael!
@@DainiusArt It's fine. The quality is pretty good and it's portable - so going through airports is easier. That said, it doesn't do too well in strong winds and strong breezes - it's very jittery and I almost lost mine just outside Sterling in Scotland. I sold it and used the money to part fund a DJI Air2s which is a happy compromise between the Mavic 2 Pro and the Mini 2. My new main work drone is an Autel Evo II Pro 6K.
@@UltimateBucketList You sooner then me....living in a red country from UK perspective. Holiday postponed already 3 times and have to do it again. Hoping 2022 will be a good year. In meantime I can probably re-enjoy the Route %00 from your vlog. This one was great, next time Islay but then the other stuff (e.g monument, soldiers rock, kildalton cross and some other beautiful walks with spectacular scenery) Pffff sounds desperate already don't you think
It took me ages to edit this feature length episode. Besides, I think they'll be local videos from now on, as the government keeps ruining my travel plans!
Fantastic video and very helpful as I am planning a trip to Islay, one thing I’ve learned is to explore what’s around me, as a Scot I’m ashamed to say I’ve not seen as much of my country as I should have. Can I ask what kind of drone you recommend for pictures etc?
Glad you like this video. It's funny you mention that - all of my Scottish friends say that I've seen more of Scotland than they have! Drone depends on your budget. I use the DJI Mavic 2 Pro for professional work and in strong wind conditions and the DJI Mavic Mini if I just want a quick shot or photo of something.
@@UltimateBucketList thank you for quick reply, yeah it’s crazy how we are happy enough to go abroad to the sunshine, beaches etc but never realise what beauty is on our own doorstep! 🤷🏼♂️ time for a change in thinking and some adventures in our own backyard! @@UltimateBucketList had I known about it I would have made every effort to go there. I was a young man when we pulled into the port next to Edinburgh Scotland when I was in the Navy. Would have loved to have gone on a tour there.
Excellent video!!!! Very informative and well made. Thank you for the effort for share your experiences!!!
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed this video.
awesome , Lagavulin images , my favorite peated scotch ever, cool that Lagavulin you where able to still do a tour, cool thing of them
Yes, the staff at Lagavulin were just awesome. If you get a chance to go one day, I recommend it!
@@UltimateBucketListok 👍, thank you for your reply
Wow - what a brilliant video - so well edited - great shots with your drone, and superb commentary. I was thinking of visiting Islay, and wanted to know where to go, and how to do it - and you have certainly answered that. They should use your video to promote the Island. Thank you.
Thanks Steve. I sent an e-mail reply to your questions.
And I agree ... they should use my video :)
Great video, I have watched this several times. Would love to see more of Scotland from you when it’s safe to do so.
Thanks Chelle, funnily enough I'm in Scotland on Monday so I'll probably make a few more videos whilst I'm up there.
Fantastic, looking forward to seeing them!
Thanks?! Yes, Islay is a pretty cool place. I'd love to come to Oz, but that requires significant time and money.
One day for sure though!
@@UltimateBucketList You are most welcome. Get in touch when you do!
I’m really hoping for a part two of this
I think I'll do the Highland Scotch tour as part of my trip to the NC500 this summer?
It's interesting how the way of life is so different here than on the mainland.
nice video man. thanks.
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!
Thanks!
Thanks for this video, very informative and helpful. We're planning a trip to Islay this spring, seems most of the distilleries are reopened now.
You're welcome! And yes, I believe that the distilleries are now fully open.
I think you're going to have a great time, and I hope that the weather holds out for you.
If you get a chance, help me out by sharing this video.
Enjoy your trip! :)
@@UltimateBucketList thanks, and yeah hope we get good weather. Just wondering, what drone do you use?
Thank you very much. Hope to visit in 2021. Very Nice video
Indeed! It's a great place for sure!
Great video! Keep up the good work.
You've got a subscriber!😁
Thanks for the sub!
Great video. Enjoyed every minute. Sláinte.
Thank you Tom. I plan on doing a Highland version of this tour this summer.
Sláinte Mhath!
Amazing Video! Congratulations!
Thanks Daniel!
Quite interesting very good liquor production.
It is indeed. Beautiful place too!
Fantastic mate! been there to the many distilleries myself a few times. Even went this summer!
Thanks! Yes, it's a amazing place to be. I'm already looking forward to coming back next year for the Fèis Ìle ... if it's actually running, of course!
Absolute cracker of a video with excellent commentary and superb views, well done you!
Thanks very much, I appreciate you saying so! :)
Didn't know there were two hockey loving lagavulin drinkers in the UK 😂
We should have a dram at a game once the season kicks back off
Indeed! There's plenty more hockey loving scotch fans out there!
Amazing!!!
Thanks Fabio! :)
Yes, Let’s get it!!!
Absolutely!
Amazing video! Thorough explanations and magnificent views. Thanks!
What drone are you using?
Thanks. My drone is the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, though some of this footage was made using just the Mavic Mini.
Thank you, great video! ;)
Thanks very much! :)
Many thanks!
You're welcome! Check out my other Scottish and Whisky Trail videos :)
@@UltimateBucketList thanks so much for getting back to me! Yes, that’s so so helpful, great to know. Now to get booking - thanks 😊
Great quality and content video. Can you tell what drone and camera you are using? Picture is so crisp!
Thanks. Drone was a DJI Mavic 2 Pro (I've upgraded since) and the video camera is a DJI Osmo Pocket.
@@UltimateBucketList what do you think about dji mini 2?
@@DainiusArt It's fine. The quality is pretty good and it's portable - so going through airports is easier. That said, it doesn't do too well in strong winds and strong breezes - it's very jittery and I almost lost mine just outside Sterling in Scotland. I sold it and used the money to part fund a DJI Air2s which is a happy compromise between the Mavic 2 Pro and the Mini 2. My new main work drone is an Autel Evo II Pro 6K.
Great memories there...looking forward to go back again. ASAP if it is up to me but darn COVID rules in my way. But a a next suggestion Route 500?
Absolutely! I plan on doing it this summer if Scotland lets me back in their country!
The salty whisky sounds interesting...
Very much so. It's like a hint of seawater or seaweed in your whisky. It's an acquired taste for sure.
Reliable sales. Salute.
Thanks!
Finaly a video after 1 month
It took me ages to edit this feature length episode. Besides, I think they'll be local videos from now on, as the government keeps ruining my travel plans!
Live in Scotland, love your vids wish I could do what you do man 👍
You can bro! Where there's a will, there's a way! And thanks!
@@UltimateBucketList cheers 👍
43 minutes! So this is where you’ve been!
Yeah, this was a long one. Had a wonderful time there though!
Hope your well keep up the good work thoroughly enjoy your videos! I will have a look at the drones 👌
@@rossc5662 Yes, just fed-up of lockdown now. Looking to travel again once it's legal to do so!
@@UltimateBucketList yeah same here, hopefully not too long! Take care 👍🏼
@@rossc5662 And same to you good sir 👍🏼
чудесный денек и отличные виды. Жаль, что технологии еще не передают через монитор запахи ))
Да, запах в этих местах потрясающий! Спасибо.
What a great video
Thanks, much appreciated!
Good job thanks for that
Thank you very much!
I had a bottle of Port Ellen, I bought it in 1998, I was going through a rough patch, divorce etc, and I managed to get through the bottle within a week. I found out how much it would be worth a while ago. Never mind eh?
Damn ... well, I hope it was a good bottle of whisky?
