We did stuff noone in the media or the viewers (except us Mavs fans) believed were possible.
1. We made the playoffs
2. We beat the Clippers
3. We beat no1 Western Conference seed OKC
4. We beat the runner-up to the MVP, SGA
5. We beat the team that just wasted the reigning champions, the Wolves
6. We beat the best defense of the league
7. We beat the Defensive Player of the Year
8. We beat the runner-up to the Rookie of the Year
9. We beat 6th man of the year
10. We made it to the finals
11. Not only did we not get swept, but we beat the Celtics with a massive blowout, 3rd largest in NBA finals history, giving Celtics the worst defeat of their entire season, that will forever remain a black mark on the Celtics' championship run.
We can be proud of our team.

.... well you covered all the salient points.... for me, i saw this team as three months old and thought Nico and Jason gave us a great team in March, and while i still rave about this team, i never expected them to win it all.... THIS YEAR!!!

Luca lack of defense was real, but he fought the entire post season with injuries , now that's a fighter

Shut up, the dude played fine def at times they got past him but it was the luka- less min that hurt us and he had to save energy to work the offense. He was the best player in history while multiple injuries according to statsm. Steals and reb matters not the most efficient but he got them buckets and everything else. Not injured and a few it's lighter he will be goat plus if refs ever decide to stop their bias and call all these freaking fouls players are showed to commit on him. It's over
This team played better when Maxi was out. Gafford getting his minutes cut cost this team. He averaged 24 mins against wolves and okc and Mavs were dominate. Against Celtics he only averaged 14 minutes a game. Maxi played 15 minutes and only averaged 1.8 points a game on 25% shooting! Averaged only 1.4 rebounds a game compared to Gaffords 4.4 boards in less time. Horrible offensively and defensively. Look at the misses Celtics had in the paint. It's often due to Gafford or Lively. With them out Celtics were allowed to score or get offensive rebounds.
Kidd reverted to his old losing ways, especially with Maxi.

That’s what I’ve been saying. I fw him but he is not a starter type of player. If we can pick up a taller, consistent scorer in the off season we’d be straight. Move djj to come off bench. Pj works on his 3 point shot. And lively works on his post game and mid range.

Mavs were never meant to win 🏆 this year anyway. Making this far is already a great achievement.
Next year will be the year. But the front court needs to be more versatile in creating shots.
And we need the 3rd playmaker to step up besides the duo
Luka HAS to better. I know he has hurt and he carried such a large load on offense, but you could point to 3 games where he was a main cause in our loss. His defense in game 2. his fouls in game 3. His decision making in game 5. I have his back through thick and thin. It’s easy to blame the role players, but the best player in the world showed a lot of holes in his game. I’m so excited for this next year. LETS GO MAVS!!!
Lol luka had help in game 4 only and crushed the best team in the nba. Then kyrie and the other role players folder in game 5 again. Luka still lead the series in points and rebounds. Should have lead in assists but nobody could score on wide open shots
He led on assist and steals too. All while hurt, go back and watch how fast he was as a rookie. He had like 15 dunks that season, imagine healthy playoff luka again. Thing is, he has to carry way too much throughout the entire season@Davidstone568

Luka is better than what was displayed in the finals, and his lack of NBA conditioning really showed by the end of the finals. Dude was exhausted from having to do everything. Thing is, he probably could have done everything if he was fully healthy and in peak shape. I’m not trying to hate on him. It’s just loving critiques is all. He can’t control if his teammates step up or not, but he can control his emotions and defense. Everyone has stuff to work on, I just focused on Luka in my comment. go Mavs!!!!

I wish they could have been a little more competitive in the championship series, but they exceeded my expectations by far for simply getting there. Great year, Mavericks. Future looks very bright.
DJJ is one of my favorite players on the MAVS i believe he is an asset. I hope he is sticking around!

Reading all those overreactions here... its laughable. This team is done? Sign PG? Sign Murphy while "opening" cap space by getting rid of Maxi and THJ? What the hell is wrong with a lot of Mavs fans? I refuse to belive that so many have no idea how the cap works, or even what REALISTIC trade szenarios would be.
We only have to do a view things. 1st trade THJ for cap space. 2nd resign DJJ with the MLE after that. 3rd give Hardy/O-Max/Green more minutes and further develope them over the reg season while making Lively our starting C. 4th run it back next season. People forget how young this roster still is. Luka/Gafford/Washington/Green/Hardy/O-Max/Lively/Lawson are all 25 and under! 6 of them played real minutes in this Playoff run. Name every player under 25 in the Celtics rotation... exactly! Also DJJ is 27, Exum is 28... means we have a core of 9-10 guys under 30 and Kyrie in his early-mid 30's as a veteran co star and locker room leader going forward. Maybe Lawson has another jump in him? Maybe we hit on another vet Min guy like DJJ next summer?
Whoever thinks this roster needs drastic changes should just calm down and start to think!
I said it after we beat the Clippers. I wanted to see some changes this season.
1st I wanted the team to get bigger (Lively/Gafford/Washington/DJJ/O-Max) - check!
2nd I wanted this team to get younger (Gafford/Washington/O-Max/Lively are all new additions) - check
3rd I wanted the team to get better defensively (6th best defense over the last 33 games) - check
4th I wanted the team to directly reach the Playoffs again - check
5th I wanted the team to win at least one PO round - check - check - check
This team accomplished everything a REASONABLE fan could hope for after last season. This team wasnt built to win the title this year in the first place. The entire roster (except DJJ) is under contract for at least one more season! This was a retooling season from day one. And to see how far we already got in this playoff run just shows me that we are fine. So once more... everybody should calm down and think! NEXT YEAR WILL COUNT! If we can not win the title next year (or at least reach the finals again), THEN some bigger changes are needed.
Yeah no. We desperately need a third scorer. Green is not going to be that guy. PJ is not going to be that guy. We saw this teams ceiling this year. We overachieved. Also need a more dependable third guard. Mavs don’t have a lick of offensive talent outside Luka and Kyrie. Trey Murphy or Caruso would do wonders for this team.
@@bailoch Interesting how you didnt mention Hardy... dont you think? 22, first PO run... no offensive upside, right? And Caruso is nothing more then an older version of Green, if this is really his full development. Dude wasnt even a real rotation player at age 22/23, but Greeen has no room left to get better... sure! Just as an example: Green averages 7.8 PPG over the last 3 years shooting 51%/39%/70% in 22 MPG. Kyle Lowry at the same age averaged 8.8 PPG on 42%/26%/77% shooting splits in 24 MPG... but yeah, no room to grow!
Not to mention we have 0 chance to get Murphy, but dream on! Lively is freaking 20 years old and is already better at decision making and has better hands then someone like Gobert. Do you know he can not ad some good post moves to his arsenal? Maybe even a reliable midrange or 3P shot over the next view years?
This "oh my god, we are so bad" is exactly the overreaction I am talking about!
Great year for Mavs. Just need a couple of scores who can play some kind of defense. Kleeber can go. He is to soft and timid. Tim Hardaway can go. Can't play when needed to. Garbage time player. If Dwight Powell is still on the will be a wasted roster spot. Just a few tweaks they will be fine

The problem with DJJ is that I don’t think the Mavs can currently give him a good enough contract to keep him unless they find a way to get off THJ’s (or someone else’s) contract. I’m sure Nico Harrison will find a way though
DJJ might have earned a paycheck… it just seems like he’s the glaring position that needs an upgrade on offense. I’m not so sure he’s coming back 😞
The mavs need another scorer 30mil player. The Bucks, the nuggets had 3 30+ mil player to win the championship, the celtics have 4.
With how we looked after the trade deadline, I’m calling it now Mavs go 60-22 2024-2025

I agree with everything, except the last sentence. For years? Horford is 38 and Holiday is 34. Not to mention they have nothing to work with to upgrade those roster spots. They have 1 MAYBE 2 more seasons with this core. Then the Tax penalties will kill the team and they have to make changes.

But I agree with the THJ take. It shouldnt be a problem to get rid of his 16.5 Mio expiring contract. That would open up the cap space needed to resign DJJ. Other then that, I wouldnt change anything. Run it back, give the young guys minutes to get better, develope team chemistry over a full offseason together and lets win the chip next year.
I'd say it was a successful year but Mavs just no showed the Finals so hard I doubt they'll get over it soon. Kidd made Mazzulla look like a bball genius, historically bad 3 point shooting and too many defensive blown assignments to count. It honestly looked like JV vs. varsity. Shameful display.

I’m not gonna overreact but it’s shocking how Dallas sold this series in games 2 & 3 especially. I don’t agree that Boston was the better team, Dallas role players and Kyrie just choked for the majority of the series. Game 4 showed who the better team really was.

He was gassed and is still injured. His threes weren’t falling for basically entire playoffs, 32% on 9.6 att when he shot 38% on 10.6 att in the regular season. Luka gotta get in shape and not have knee issues starting in the first round. Of course he wanted it, he gave it his all. Kyrie on the other hand was atrocious the entire Finals basically when Luka needed him most and he’s only getting older…

@@leroygreen9322 Hardy is 22 playing in his first Playoffs and 2nd season overall. Lively is a 20 years old rookie. Green is 23, can defend and can hit 3's. This team does not need much, if anything at all.
Drop THJ for cap space, resign DJJ, ad some vet min guys and run it back.

"Remember to drink water" while the Celtics drink champagne. Mavs obliterated the West and vanished in the Finals. No excuse. Inability to protect the basketball lead to the Celtics Q2 avalanche and put the game out of reach.
Josh, Dante should have taken every shot. Luka was given no room to breathe, kept missing and Mavs had no answer. Mavs allowed Celtics to go small without making them pay. When the white kid (no offense) hit the buzzer beater (again) from backcourt to end the half, we all knew the game was over.
Can we stop with the delusion of PJ being a third option lol. If the mavs do go out n try to get guys like PG who had one of his best shooting n defensive seasons also was a great playmaker in a while maybe take look at malik monk and other 3D players after like Joe Ingles. Luka is an amazing player, but not a leader. I am looking for Derrick Lively to lead this team in a few short years. even as a rookie he is calling out coverages live. I even saw him direct Luka to coverage a few times. But let's face it as a whole the Mavs didn't have the desire to win, Luka was very frustrated and yelling at refs again. You never see Jokic yelling at refs.
Pj was the biggest sore spot, that man cannot dribble or have any kind of handles, he is strictly a 3 and D guy and has no business doing anything more

West is stacked and will only get better. Mavs aren't coming back, they're done. This was the best chance at winning a title and they blew it.
Why won't the Mavs get better? The will only gel over the next season. The front office will add whatever missing pieces we need. We will run it back.
That's where you're sorely mistaken the Mavericks will be back this will just give them time to address the key issues that they were missing
Next year... Luka and Kai healthy, Lively getting better and better, Gaf and PJ integrating more, with Hardy, Jones, Green and Exum for the hustle and athleticism...

And why shouldnt we get better? Gafford/Washington didnt even have a full offseason with the team, while being 25 to begin with. Hardy/Green are not at the end of their development, let alone Lively. O-MAx showed some good sins in the G-League and could be our backup PF solution going forward. And Luka can still get better as well. Not to mention that a lot of West contender (Clippers/Wolves/Nuggets/Suns... 4 of the top 6 PO teams) are over the 2nd Tax apron. We are not, and will not be for at least 1, probably 2 more seasons. Whoever thinks this roster already peaked has no Idea what he is talking about.
I only see OKC and maybe Houston as teams with clear upside for the next season.
Does anyone think the Lakers will be significantly better? Or the Kings (while loosing Monk)? Or the aging Warriors? New Orleans doesnt have much options to get significantly better as well. The Jazz/Spurs/Portland are still a couple of years away. Maybe the Grizzlies can be mack in the PO hunt when Ja gets his head out of the gutter... but overall they dont frighten me.
This was never our championship or bust season. That was allways the next year. We accomplished way more then anyone thought before the season started. Means we are ahead of the curve. If we do not reach the finals again, then we have to make some changes in 2025. But we are more then fine for next season as the team is now, as long as we can resign DJJ.

Dwight powell, Maxi Kleber, Thj are getting paid 32 mil a year. Ship them and sign a max player like Trey Murphy.
Maxi Kleber is horrible. HIs 3 point show was very flat and his defense is pretty bad. He should have been gone a couple of seasons ago. Dwight Powel is even worse.

Rigged by who? The NBA? If it was rigged by the NBA, this series would've went 7 games. The Conference Finals would've went 7 games. They lose millions in tickets / ads for every game not played. So the "Rigged" thing makes no sense. But if saying "rigged" helps you cope better, go off I guess.

I hope Kyrie gets therapy about his phobia with Boston. If he had been himself and if PJ had played better it would have been a different series. Kidd reverted back to his March coaching brain freezes in Boston. But They have only been together for 4 months. What a phenomenal run. I’m excited for next year.
As already explained boston could simply collapse the paint on every Kyrie drive because of lack of 3 point threat from DJJ and PJ in this series. If Nico could somehow convert Timmy, Kleber and Pow into a wing who is around 40% from three and is a great defender then Mavs becomes a legit title contender.

When looking for guys, it's important for the Mavs to go after good fits, guys who are pros/play hard & guys who are team no egos....That's why the Mavs trades and signings have worked this year. I would say they need to trade THJ, Maxi( tough to lose him)( see if you can get Kornet), Hardy( not a PG, to shaky with the ball, also I think he can develop more on another team), and Prosper the rookie is debatable( if they were going after a great player then go for it, add him in).
There is always next year. And if these guys have only been together for five months, imagine how much better they will be next year.
Now, I know that whoever is in charge of choosing teammates for the Celtics has been stacking the deck, as it were. Paying whatever it takes to lead the best players over to them. But when you build such a good team as that, there is no competition. And who wants to see that!
great season, boring and horrible finals except game 4. no chance at all against a really good celtics squad. kudos to them. looking forward to next season, problem is everything but the title will kinda be a disappointment
It was fun, most likely for most of us this will never happen again in our lifetime,
(statistically we go to the finals about every 14 years on average)
