- We surprised this small business owner in Japan with an English lesson! I hit up my friend @ALBO , a JDM RUclipsr in Japan with English teaching experience, to come along with me to surprise this lady. I made a video with her a few weeks ago about how she does her best to communicate with English speaking customers. She told me she wanted to learn English, and I knew what I had to do!

Thank you for the support! I’m trying my best ☺️
What's the name of the shop?
It’s called Tamaru in Yanaka Ginza!
She is a smart lady, she will in no time be able to communicate. In just a couple of hours, she formed a sentence. I wish her all the best😊
She is so sweet! Her drive to learn is insane, I'm so happy for her! And her talent is beyond this world- that Tiger art was incredible 😳
It’s 4 am I’m extremely tired but had a smile on my face the whole time, this lady is super sweet, and it’s so heartwarming she wants to learn English to connect with foreign customers ❤️
I speak Japanese (not 100 fluent) I have studied for nearly 10 years and agree with this. It’s best to do it all in parts. I started with hiragana and katakana before true words or grammar then learned a lot more words and kanji etc.
With new languages, you never wanna jump into something super hard.
I’m going to Japan next year and wanna go here :)
Definitely let her know that you watched this vid 😊
@@MinorKey135 I definitely will lol
Just saw the short. So sweet of you to help her and get her that gift. She looked really happy ❤😍
Of all the "help strangers" videos, this is my favorite.
Please keep helping her, and post updates.
Let's make this lady famous!
This is beyond wholesome. Pretty sure she'll never forget this moment.
Aww, she's so sweet. Thanks for giving her the book and CD. I practice Japanese on Duolingo, but I'm also scared of planes. I really want to see Hokkaido in winter. Maybe someday I'll beat my anxiety and know enough japanese to do so.
There's a Japanese guy that makes sushi and other Japanese foods at a local grocery store like maybe a mile from my house, he will say **How are you, or have a nice day** whenever people walk by, Idk how much English he knows, but I wanna do this, and teach him a few phrases, I know some Japanese, not enough to have a conversation with someone, but I think he'd still appreciate it.
There were some other Japanese people at a pond that's also nearby that I got to talk to and that was fun, I got so many butterflies when they saw that my Japanese was good, I introduced myself and bowed, then they said something in Japanese and bowed back, just thinking about it makes me fangirl on the inside I'm like 😄🤩😊🦋 just asdfghjkl!
Yay I hope you become a successful sensai
aww as a Canadian i have many foreign friends with Canadian hearts. I would love to teach English one on one like this or small groups.
Can’t wait to hunt this place down. She seems like the sweetest person.
Learning is a never ending journey.. thank u for helping her.. & she seems to be a cool lady too..
So cool that you did this, Shota! You set a great example for us all!
She’s so cute and this experience is so wholesome 🥺!!
I went there today. It was a great experience! Had lunch, shared some photos of my world travels since she is afraid of flying. It was a good time. The sweets are super good and the whole area is interesting, its in a little alleyway with a bunch of other shops. I recommend stopping by if you ever get the chance.
Wow! Thank you so much for visiting her store!!
She's incredibly talented in multiple facets. Thank you for the beautiful reminder that there are so many precious and amazing people around the world.
This is so sweet!! She seems so kind and I love her enthusiasm for learning English and being so accommodating to foreigners. Her business seems so cute, I definitely want to go whenever I visit Japan in the (hopefully near) future! My Japanese is still very very weak, but I am trying my best to study and improve.
I live in Sapporo, but if I ever go there, I'll be happy to try some chonmage dango and a conversation
She even put snacks out for her thrift customers. She’s so thoughtful and considerate! I’m planning my trip to Japan now, I will add her lovely cafe to my list of must see. Please tell her she’s doing so well with her English! 🥰🥰🥰
Bro you don't have to wear a Cape to be a hero you already are hero
Just getting started! I definitely want to use my platform for good and help people out in anyway that I can manage to!
If my dojo happens to make a visit over, I will try to make an insistence to visit this café! The reasons are twofold.
1) She's making a bold step to try to meet us foreigners halfway, which is very much unlike what the majority of the nation will want to do, and I want to make it clear with more than words that her efforts will pay off manifold, and it is the type of thing that Japan as a whole needs to begin to nurture, rather than reject.
2) Given her age group, she could not fly in any further contrast than what we've seen here, and because Japan's general atmosphere is about conformity "at all costs", her choice to learn English is going to run the risk of getting into some hot water. We need to make her into an example, rather than an outcast.
She's so lovely. I wish I could talk about needlecraft with her. (I knit and crochet and sometimes put a small embroidery on,but her embroidery is beautiful)
What a lovely woman. It filled my heart with joy to hear her speaking English. Lord please protect her and prosper her.
Inside a Country where people are not so curious about foreigner's and just stay with Japanese people there are always people who are very curious about other culture. And these people are very thankful if you teach them something
What a lovely lady. And she's such a smart cookie. Her art is incredible though! Like my God, she has so many talents
I love this lady so much and it’s so sweet she wants to learn new things especially to help her customers feel welcome and cared for and thank you boys for helping her that was so beautiful ❤️ and side note she did a really good job with that embroidered tiger 🐅 it’s stunning! 🌟 may God bless her abundantly always 🙏🏼❤️
Albo just pulls up in the s2k “someone wanna learn english!!!”
Hold up, we need to talk more about that tiger & her talents
Well now I have even more reason to come to Japan! She’s so nice! I love her personality
I've been studying Japanese myself for about a year and a half, and it's nice to hear words in this and not entirely need the subtitles. I'm still far from being able to block out the subtitles and still fully understand all of the Japanese in this video, but I do enjoy listening to the Japanese and trying to figure out the meaning without the subtitles. I just wish that I had a proper teacher instead of just Duolingo and a kanji app to study with though.
I think you should provide a cheat sheet for the customer too
loved watching your videos ever since you made your first debut with a collab with shunchan on youtube! it wasnt that quite familiar for me to see a japanese american displaying the cultures and famous places in japan esp with that damn decent accent and the perfect ability of switching from english to japanese damn fluently… anyways shoutout from korea 🇰🇷👍👍
Thank you for the support! Shoutout to you too, hopefully we can visit Korea soon I really want to visit!
I cannot WAIT to meet this lady!!
This is the wholesome content I've been longing for!!!
This is so wholesome it made me smile
This is great and so sweet ❤🤗
Confidence is so important in language learning, and language learning is *so* hard, so you have to teach in a way that gives the student a chance to succeed immediately. This video is a great example of how to do that. 👍👍👍
Thank you! I’m so grateful that Albo helped me out on this because he has extensive English teaching experience!
:)
:-P
I came here from the pinned comment of a short that brought tears to my eyes for some reason. What a fantastic person.
Thank you for watching the full video! 🙏🙏
I love her so much, thank you for doing this! I hope I get to visit her someday! Nice to see a fellow Canadian as well :) Will you be doing any follow-up/videos of you visiting her?
Okay….I’m going to Japan….I HAVE to!!! And I want her cafe to be my very first stop!!!! 🥺 if u see her again say I can’t wait to hopefully meet her one day!! And am very excited to try the food at her cafe!! Might take a while tho since I can’t hold a job from disabilities, but imma do EVERYTHING I can!! “The only barrier between people is language, breaking that we get to really see we are all the same people, and learn to care for one another as humans much more.”
Saw the short so sweet love your videos keep it up
Great work for an incredible woman, well done!
Would it be possible to share the café's address or a Google Maps link?
I'm planning on a longer journey across Japan and the route hasn't been fully planned yet. 😉

Love your videos that's also including Albo.
One question what is the best way to learn Japanese?
Her R's are so good! I know so many east Asians have so much trouble figuring out just how the mechanics of that sound work. She did a great job!
This is what I love about social media! Hello from the USA! I want to go to your store!

I would definitely go there! I booked a trip in 2020, but of course it was cancelled, because of covid. But hey, now I know a new place to visit, so all good!
So cute 🥰
I think it would amazing if you guys made a video of her using her English during the day with foreign customers and filmed the customers reactions. I’m sure it’ll be all smiles!! Love it!
