      Also, thanks for sharing some of the ox stomp settings! I plan on using that for my direct rig as well and can't wait to try them. Would love to see a deep dive in how you set yours up with all the extra things it can do as well, but it's also fun to explore (when it actually connects to the app at least).

    Sounds good. I’ve been building a bunch of different preamp circuits over the past couple years and some really deliver the goods. I am drowning in killer pedal circuits these days. More than I could ever use. For those who like to tinker (and can’t get their hands/wallet on hyped up pedals like this), I recommend trying your hand at DIY pedal building. It offers more bang for your buck and also allows you to customize your sound. Thanks for the vid. 🤙

      @markjohnstonofficial  9 месяцев назад +3

      Ive actually really been meaning to revisit the revival drive lineup in the modern Ox Stomp context. Last time I used one it was still "as a drive pedal" and it never really connected with me in that context but I really want to dig through the origin amp recreation lineup now.

      I've been using the Origin Magma57 with the OX Stomp for a while. The Magma is an insanely awesome thing.
      So much so that I replaced my OX with a CBA Genloss mk2 and I'm running a strange mix between direct amp-to-tapemachine thing and I love that sound so freaking much.
      Also could not deal with the UA app.

    • @markjohnstonofficial
      @markjohnstonofficial  9 месяцев назад +2

      The UA app’s biggest issue is that the ox stomp’s workflow is just so much worse than the ox box’s. The amp topper’s iPad app is like my favorite app and is half the reason I got an ox. The UAFX app is so much worse.

    • @markjohnstonofficial
      @markjohnstonofficial  9 месяцев назад +2

      To be fair the original has the exact same shared control set so it’s just being faithful. And channel A is very much a “high headroom pedal platform” kind of voicing and it holds true even in the solid state format.

    Does anything come close to this on the dirt side? I had one and sold it pretty quick cause the clean had some crackly aspect if it was pushed even a little. You can hear it once the gain is above noon. Around 18:50 its super apparent to my ear, at least. Like theres a parallel path distorting only in the high end?
    At any rate i liked the drive side but couldnt unhear the pushed clean crackle. Sad.😢

    Listening to the pedal (albeit with youtube compression etc) it sounds good. But the comments you made about eq curves and double curves sounds like complete nonsense - you said the company is trying to solve that problem. The reality is all music, studio or live, has countless
    “eq curves” on it - every pedal except the cleanest of the clean affects the eq even a tube screamer is an eq curve - certainly every part of the single chain from pickup to every pedal to preamp, power amp, and speaker type/size, all eq’s and compression and every insert afterwards will effect the “eq curve” so i think it’s nonsense because the mother pedal can reduce the chance of inadvertently changing the eq when using a different setup that doesn’t involve a preamp pedal like this, it is completely irrelevant to how we produce guitar tones for listeners to listen to. That being said, the pedal sounds fine, I’m just commenting on what i think is a ridiculous selling point of this because it feels like that is meant to mystify a potential buyer when in reality it is completely irrelevant unless maybe a listener can press buttons on spotify to listen to different parts of the many of a guitar signal chain - which we can’t and no one would do.

    • @markjohnstonofficial
      @markjohnstonofficial  9 месяцев назад +1

      It sounds like you didnt actually listen to the sound samples where I switch between the two outputs in both the DI and the front of amp configurations because, in my opinion, the difference is pretty striking. Additionally, I am aware that every sound in a recording / live environment is processed through myriad EQs along the way but "an EQ" =/= "an amp curve EQ" and the "double curve" sound is pretty evident when you listen to the pwr amp out into the front of the Milkman amp at the end. It's a similar experience to running an amp sim with a cabinet EQ curve engaged into the front of an amp / other IR loader. Doubling up on the curve of a speaker sim has a jarring and unnatural effect and the two outputs here seek to solve for a similar issue but by way of optimizing this pedal into specific destinations.

    • @nathanmachine-
      @nathanmachine- 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@markjohnstonofficial No I think you missed my point. Of course I agree that doubling up of the speaker curve is jarring - but the talk you gave about what you call an amp curve eq is pretty irrelevant in the supermajority of the situations, unless you are going to to assume an non ideal use case like you just described. Any inadvertent eq isn’t helpful but at the end of the day there is a signal chain from hitting the string all to someone’s ear and the concept that you’re suggesting: that it is a great thing that you can avoid what you call a double curve is really nonsense unless someone plugging in things without understanding what they’re doing. I didn’t say that there isn’t a difference where you sample/listen to a guitar signal - i said the opposite, but that it would only matter if we stopped right there to listen, because of the various sound treatment at every single step of the process which is essentially an eq curve as you say. There’s no mystical amp eq curve that’s not comparable to any other eq curve (yes there are non linearities/dist etc) but my point it is every time the sound is changed (at every step with every pedal) that is an eq curve - so marketing this one to avoid the “problem” you pointed out is ridiculous to me. That being said, nothing I’m writing here is personal, I’m just giving my opinion that what you said is meaningless in actual practical application of how we’d use this pedal vs any other. You like the sound, I agree it’s fine/good, you put a lot of time into your video productions, i appreciate that. But you said something that sound meaningless so Ive just commented so other viewers hopefully wont think what you’ve said is meaningful in application, or at least think about it for a min. (for clarity: “solving for a problem” isnt accurate imo)

    • @nathanmachine-
      @nathanmachine- 5 месяцев назад

      @@robdavies9478 not sure i said anything was pointless. what i said was the way the video describes things re an eq curve is meaningless irl and likely confuses people (ie sounds like marketing language designed to confuse ppl). if you read my comments closely you can see my explanation of why i believe this.
      I would like to make it clear that my criticism is on the video, and how that part is portrayed in the video - not about the pedal or either company. Science is an awesome company in particular - i just heard someone overemphasizing a feature sounding like a marketing person in a way which is very salesman like imo - and i think many ppl who aren’t that familiar with a pedal like this might be getting confused needlessly. You may disagree, but for clarity I am not referring to the pedal, but rather how it is talked about it the video.

      @@robdavies9478 i said right at the beginning that the “comments are nonsense”.
      you’re talking about the pedal. i’m talking about how the pedal is presented in this video and talking about double eq curves in that way. not sure how i can make it more clear to you that my criticism is in the way it’s discussed and presented in the video but at least it’s written there if you want to read it.
