- If you’re not familiar, Science Amps have enjoyed well-earned cult status for a while now. Designed in collaboration with Electronic Audio Experiments, this pedal is the preamp section of the Mother-loosely a take on a Hiwatt circuit-faithfully recreated with transistors in place of tubes. I had a prototype of this for a while, and from day one I’ve been in love with it. It sounds incredible, the dual-channel setup is easy and intuitive, and its design is quite clever, with separate amp/direct outputs that are voiced differently for those two contexts. It’s only January and hot damn, we’ve got a contender for the Top of 2024 list.

I find having one dedicated one like the Mother, and one with multiple preamps like the Simplifier is the way to go for my self. Some tube amps for the crack as well 😉 a little of everything is good.

Amazing sounds and awesome demo! Does anyone know if this is supposed to emulate the power section of the amp as well as the preamp (like the Model Fet & Citadel do)? I sort of get the impression it does as it can go straight to an IR but haven’t found it said definitively

Yup most of this video is direct to interface, just need a cab sim/IR loader plugin in your DAW and you're good to go
What were you using for an IR loader when going DI?
I use Pulse in Reaper, nothing too crazy going on with it
It doesn’t have a ton of gain on its own, especially with moderate output pickups, right? At least that’s what I feel using mine. It’s a GREAT preamp, at the moment I use it into an Ox Stomp.
I'd agree, gets plenty dirty but it definitely gives you some room to dig in a bit, even with the gain cranked
