Ditto Joan Cusack, Randy Quaid, and Damon Wayans. Season 11 was just weird, but hey, it got better when they got rid of most of them and brought in Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman (RIP).
I'm 45 and it's reverse for me. RDJ is about 10 or 11 years older then me, so I remember him as a teenager/early 20s kid when I was growing up. It's more weird for me seeing him today as a mid 50s guy, when I remember him as a teenage little punk ass.
@@canaisyoung3601 Randy Quaid did pretty good work too, but the guy had already been Oscar-nominated, so SNL seemed like...well, slumming it for him. And Phil would have rendered him basically superfluous a year later. But he was a talented performer.
I loved them both going into that season and was sorely disappointed. Clearly, it wasn't a lack of talent! But SNL was not for them. That said, their skits were not all duds, but ... this one can definitely be given a pass.
@umairashraf5167 they were cool as shit. Robert Downey Jr might look weird in Weird Science but that getup and hairstyle was badass at the time. And Anthony Michael Hall was hard to buy as a nerd in all those movies cause he talked cooler than the coolest kids
There’s nothing wrong with Anthony Michael Hall being on Snl because he was the youngest cast member. It’s a good idea that teenagers can be cast members on Saturday Night Live. It’s a great way to bring in the teenage demographic.
i wish Anthony michael hall play the role of Morgan Stark, Tony's Cousin in MCU Netflix series of Invincible Iron man, at least adapt the Max Imprint version of Iron man from the (U.S. War Machine).
Did anyone hear at 1:36 when RDJ did the Tom Holland croissant thing TEN YEAR BEFORE TOM WAS BORN. I don't care what anyone says this just shows that the two were always meant to be meant.
I feel like AMH doesn't get enough credit for his comedic timing. At least with Robert he's got the Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes movies and Due Date to showcase his comedic talents.
Both of them and season 20 were bad. Everyone says the new current episodes suck (and yeah, sometimes they do), but seasons six, eleven, and 20 were so bad, they almost got the show canceled. There hasn't been a season like that since.
That season lacked a few things, good writing, good case members, and good laughs. The only exceptions were the “carrying on their backs” efforts from Jon Lovitz and Dennis Miller.
This is one of those sketches where you want to think there’s something you’re missing, some reference that would make it make sense, because you don’t want to believe that this was really all there was to it.
1985-86 was probably the worse season in SNL history!! Great cast, but the great chemistry between writers & cast members just wasn't there at that time!! Supposedly SNL was in danger of getting cancelled after that season was over. 1986-87 season was a better improvement!! Keeping Nora Dunn, Dennis Miller, Jon Lovetz, A. Whitney Brown & hiring a newer cast members Dana Carvey, Jan Hooks, Kevin Nealon, Phil Hartman in the Fall of 1986 made the show funny again. That chemisty saved the show!! 👍
It’s just that boomers couldn’t handle youth culture comedy. They are parodying how THE BOOMERS see them (youth) and all the boomers commenting don’t get it!
It’s inspiring to see how shaky SNL was for the first half of the 80s. The original cast and writers had left. But instead of ending the show, they decided to continue with a new cast that wasn’t received well. Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo save the show from cancellation, then they both leave. For their 10 year anniversary, they have one of the most legendary and iconic casts that only lasted one season. Lorne Michaels returns the following year and the show is on the verge of cancellation, once again. The following year proves to be the beginning of another legendary run. And the cast and writers were hitting their stride again. That cast with Miller, Dunn, Nealon, Carvey, Hartman, Lovitz, Meyers, Hooks, and Jackson was brilliant. Conan O’Brien, Robert Smigel, and Bob Odenkirk were all writers on the show. Things were really starting to gel and the show entered its next legendary phase.
Yes, this entire sketch was an entire fart joke but it has context and still clever. SNL had worse episodes and sketches beyond this that's dry as sandpaper.
The novelty of seeing RDJ aside, you can see why SNL was *this* close to getting cancelled back then. I'm Downey's age, right in their demographic, had been watching since Season One... and I still knew this was awful.
Frankly as someone who reads a lot and thinks a large chunk of literary critics are self-righteous pretentious snobs who like to over-analyze and make themselves sound smart rather than enjoying the process of reading and providing honest feedback, I found this to be really damn funny.
I can't believe they actually got paid for this.... I love RDJ, but the SNL skits, the cast, and the whole vibe in season 11 was just white hot garbage. The only one that was worth anything was John Lovitz.
“Hard to believe, but I believe the boys wrote that themselves”
That burn was the funniest part
This is the guy who defeated thanos.
May his beautiful soul rest in piece. We will miss you RDjr

@WorldFlex they were on for all of season 11. Most of that cast was one and done.
@@whitespyder9 they all went on to have relatively successful careers. It seems like they just weren't right for snl's type of comedy.
@@fighterck6241 correct
RDJ himself said this was the worst SNL season ever.
Hearing the voice of RDJ and seeing such a young face is odd
People age as they get older...it's completely normal
Us older folk remember his youth well.
I'm 45 and it's reverse for me. RDJ is about 10 or 11 years older then me, so I remember him as a teenager/early 20s kid when I was growing up. It's more weird for me seeing him today as a mid 50s guy, when I remember him as a teenage little punk ass.
Lord, wait until he’s 80, or until you’re all 80, you simple, ageist people.
I guess that's where Tom Cruise fans have it better than the rest of us, they never have to worry about that.
If you've ever wanted to see footage of two guys completely out of their element and failing miserably, here ya go.
Congratulations, you just described why the season 11 cast sucked (save for Jon Lovitz, Nora Dunn, and Dennis Miller).

Not even slightly funny.
Ya not likly your obviously under the age of 30 .
Now, THIS is the Robert Downey, Jr.and Anthony Michael Hall many of us Gen-Xers (and older) remember.
Hi,as a gen z I would like to ask what was it like back when these guys were still new

OMG Young Robert Downey!!
Tin Tran and anthony michael hall too🥺
He's still sexy af

Would have passed for the man who is ironing then..
This is one of those moments when I questioned what Robert was thinking 😀

I think that's why Adam Sandler had fans. They felt like he represented about how well they would do if they were up there on stage.

Well RDJ himself said this was the worst SNL season of all time.
Captain America was 5 at this time.
Black Widow was 2, Thor was 3, and Spider-Man...wouldn't be born for another 10 years.

No the problem was that’s what old folx think was funny=boomers, who are still the problem today
