The person who sent the email as the internet archive seems like a good person. Best to let everyone know and prove exactly what needs to be changed to get things back together. It didn't make it any more insecure. Like he said "if not me it'd be someone else"
They hire who they like - an advantage for non-profits to avoid lawsuits. However, I knew gregarious folks that were talented, ex-Facebook and Google that couldn't get hired there. It was like auditioning for a movie. The original office in San Francisco's Presidio felt like you were on the Starfleet campus.

Making people aware of infosec problems is not like striking a hospital. No one's access to IA was blocked. No one is preventing anyone at IA from working. It's like setting up a billboard across the street from a business saying their customers data is accessible with little effort after telling the business first and them seemingly not doing anything. We all love IA and they clearly need help.

From what I've seen, they acknowledged their security was lacking due to putting off updates because of their allocation of limited funds.
