The different sound is good. The Great Devourer is not actively malicious, it simply doesn't care that it's prey are individual entities. The "softer" vocals sound like the Hive Mind is clear and direct with its methods and goals.
Came down here to say exactly this. A more guttural voice would've been predictable and boring. This is wildly more interesting.
While the voice in the video I feel is more appropriate for the Tyranids rather than a guttural one, there was an instance in some book I can't recall that a psyker actually managed to contact the Tyranid Hive Mind.
The Hive Mind does feel emotion. It's why a tendril of Leviathan made a b-line towards Baal; it wanted vengeance on the Blood Angels for an earlier transgression.
The Hive Mind was found to feel anger and hate towards basically everything else, specifically at things that *really* posed a threat to it.
While I think a higher pitched voice for the song fits, a deep gutteral one would have also worked, I feel.
Largely a lot of things adout the tyranids are unknown and misinformation but one thing is know and it's that there hunger takes the place of were the soul should be (metiforicaly and literally) also the hive mind doesn't know petty vengeance it was going after the blood angels because there a big threat (plus there's a lot of other reasons) but in the story the psyker did feel emotion from the hive mind just a burning abyss
Devastation of baal argues this, the hive mind feels hatred for all other life
@@scumbaggaming9418 But is it:
A) A human-like sense of rage born out of being insulted; the Blood Angels have handed me a *defeat* and that has wounded my pride, thus I want them dead.
B) An "animal anger" brought on as a reaction and out of necessity; the Blood Angels have been a *major* obfuscation, they *must* die, and that has made me furious.
In a broader sense; is the "hatred" the Hive Mind feels for other life simply an extension of some instinct that drive them to doggedly attack foreign lifeforms that it may adapt further and propagate itself? Or is closer to the vendetta-like hate that individualistic races feel in 40k? We know that some bio-forms display variable degrees of independent thought (Swarmlord being *the* big one), but does that mean they experience human emotions as we do? Can they *feel* slighted? I'm not really sold on the idea.
After all, if I whack a hornet's nest with a golf-club, it's inhabitants are gonna be pissed... but I doubt they'd hold an actual vendetta against me.
"Our evolution is impending, this universe will end
Its purpose is served, as we ascend"

If the Hivemind was neutral power then Hivefleet Kraken wouldn't have gone after the Blood Angels homeworld of Baal in responce to the Blood Angels efforts against them.
@@chaptermastermarneuscalgar6926 Neutrality is not the same as having a poor grasp of tactics. When a particular, specialized group of enemies whose effectiveness would be impeded by targeting a specific location are harming you, sparing that location isn't neutrality but rather stupidity.

The person who sung 'Imperial Fists' and 'Purging with my kin' was supposed to be the one to do the vocals but my test listeners have found his voice to be too deep. But don't worry, he will reprise in another song about the conflict between the Space Wolves and the Inquisition!

@@solomonkenji5611 You mean the growls? That was Kylee Brielle. She's great with clean vocals and growling. For gutturals, however, a deep male vocals is preferred.
@@stringstorm what about having multiple voice, it could represent the Hive mindedness and would be easier to use a deeper voice like the singer of Purging with my kin and the girl who made the growling ?
For some reason, the line "Blindly casting beacons out, they guide us, instead of holding their shadows near," reminds me of the whole H.P. Lovecraft thing about how, when we venture out into the galaxy, what we find will be so terrifying and unbelievable that we will have to flee back to the dark ages for peace and safety. I dunno if the allusion was intentional or not but it was great, good job!
I think that line was more a reference to the Pharos Beacon which os believed to have alterted the tyranids to our presence, as anything that could emit that much psychic energy must be delicious. But I like that interpretation as well.
It's a combination of what you and the other poster said
I guess you mean this one "The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. "
The line "we merely live on a placid island of ignorance, in the midst of black seas of infinity, and we were not meant to travel far" honestly sounds like what it'd feel like fighting the tyranids.
You: I forgot to clean the kitchen and I think there is a minuscule piece of food there.
The Ants:
BLINDLY CASTING BEACONS OUT THEY GUIDE US
Ants :WE ARE CONCLUSION WE ARE THE MAW
I personally enjoy this rendition of the song, as when you think about it, the Hive Mind is a psychic... I hesitate to say "entity," more collective consciousness. It wouldn't have any of the physical imperfections that would cause a guttural voice, it would be clear, easy to hear and listen to, guiding the Tyranids with chains of the purest psionics from planet to planet. If the Tyranids were physically singing this, then yes, I agree, a lower voice would be good. However if this is the combined Hive Mind, as it seems to be judging by the lyrics, then a clearer tone makes the most sense.
I'd imagine the Hive Mind itself wouldn't speak in discernible words, more in direct instinctual concepts... inaudible yet unmistakable
I’d say the hive mind is an entity. It doesn’t understand our reality, it is a thing we don’t get. It exists and affects the world through its endless parts.

They effectively will never lose a war unless the opponent is overwhelming, which *requires* teamwork unless you're fighting fallen empires, advanced start AIs or massively better players. Conquest also benefits them a lot more than other empires -- you get to gain a massive food boost and research boost. The food means that you can say 'fuck agri districts, I will also be keeping my building spots foooor... Let's say alloy', allowing them to build even bigger fleets; couple that to the fact that their ships deal more damage and are cheaper baseline...
1 corvette for a DS deals 15% more damage, regenerate 0.5% hp *daily*, and is 15% cheaper, compared to anyone else's corvette. The Orks are a bioweapon created by the Old Ones to fight the C'Tan and Necrons. Without the Old Ones around to keep them in check, they've grown and spread through the galaxy unchecked. The difference between the Orks and Tyranids are that the former are always looking for a fight, but will settle for fighting each other, somewhat checking their expansion. "I have heard chanting and seen its servants, Reborn from mere men to serpents and beasts. Sacrifices were made in exchange for power, But it hungers forever more".
"It fed on the bodies of gods as well as the flesh of men, And it existed for ages and ages. But glory and crowns reduce, Only a fool would claim mastery compared to such a thing".
"Pity the Corpse Emperor, Who regards himself a god but an insect merely. Pity his Lords and proud Angels, Who seek to rule the land but will all perish.
"Pity the followers of the machine, Their master rusting away. Pity the mortals who know not about the serpent, Descendants of the same blood but will die in ashes."
My face went pale as the beasts called, And I could hear the serpents shifting in darkness. The moon shed down a blood-red light, As the mouthless prophet spoke once more.
"I have seen the serpent," He said, "Its teeth are sharp and its eyes are opening, And now it breathes.
Probably the most dangerous 40k faction due to the rate they adapt and numbers and a abilities and has entered the galaxy on every angle meaning that the Tyranids are all around the 40k galaxy. And the purpose/goals are I'm hungry.
*Inquisitor appears from thin air* Did somebody say *GENESTEALERS?!?*
Nope I said hive tyrant
*GENESTEALERS!!!!!*
Hello cato sicarius
@@depressedgwyndolin Hello, Man-Emperor's favourite book-eater son.
@@thefirstprimariscatosicari6870 I don't eat books and thanks for not making a bird joke
"Our magnum opus" I can just imagine a swarmlord emerging as carnifexes escort it
Tyranids are the main baddies of 10th and I'm so fucking hyped.
RIGHT?!
Man gotta say this one is definitely my favorite out of all the songs you've made so far.
When the Warp grows quiet, be afraid.
I. D.o.n.t think a full guttural version the entire way through makes sense for gene stealers but instead have em start off normal and inconspicuous but as the song progress have their voices begin to distort and let the death metal voice (which was great) grow louder and begin singing in sync with the cultist. Just my suggestion but still a cool song nonetheless
That sounds cool
Well, these are not Genestealers specifically.
Woah that was truly awesome!! It's really catchy and the lyrics are well-thought. Applause!
Epic!
Great to see you two collab again
A lot of people are talking about the voice. I wanna say that I like it. To me, the smooth voice represents a Tyranid Synapse creature. The screaming voice is a creature that isn't in the presence of a Synapse creature. The C"reep through the stillness" is the Swarmlord. That's because it is the most important and most powerful Tyranid creature known to the Imperium of Man.
well Norn Queens and the Female Tyrants (Dominatrix) are VASTLY more important and powerful
When the Warp grows dark, the maw opens wide.
Must like harder!!!
I found this right as I got back into the game and needed a song for my favorite faction. Thanks so much!
Weather this isnt is the type of sound you would think the bugs make. I think people draw to many crosses with the over mind of the beef or maybe even the grave mind of the flood for a hive mind being. I honestly love the song for what it is. I look forward to the next piece you release.
Ps: that comment you made about looking for a VA that can do that type of voice while still being in tune for the music is a proper why of dealing with most comments and I applaud you.
When it comes to Tyranids, everyone is playing survival horror except the Tyranids themselves, who are making a Mukbang video.
Really nice, Can't wait for more Tyranid and genestealer cults music!
Chaos, Imperium, Xenos,
We eat them all!
Least racist faction in the game.

I know alot of people take issue with the vocals but personal I think they really fit the song well
One of the only things that have wanted me to play Tyranids. Really awesome song!
it is 2 in the morning i have been listening to this for the past 5 hours.... I have ADHD and i need my ears to be listening to something to work. THx man
Well, I for one, find this to be quite a phenomenal composition. Particularly the melody of a chorus, refined, evolved, yet tempered towards the voice of a single being, of one Hive Mind. I cannot say at this time what addicts me to the tempo of this song. Perhaps it's the fluidity of the words, the way in how happy he sounds as much as he gets more aggressive. I'm not entirely sure. But I ask you don't change it. I, for one, absolutely love it
This really makes me want a game based around the Tyranids. A bunch of players playing as fortified Guardsmen VS a bunch of players playing as an endless Tyranid swarm. Think of the carnage that would happen!
Like left 4 dead?
@@supertacticaldroid1751 I was thinking more along the lines of big team survival, like 48 Imperial players vs 12 Tyranids players and a bunch of AI. As Imperial players die, they change sides to be Tyranids.
A left 4 dead style game would be pretty sick though.
@@TonyRedgrave yeah both are things I would play
I was thinking. A group of about 30 or so players as guardsmen. With Maybe around 10 to 15 players. Controlling various Tyranid Bioforms, kind of like an rts. And the goal of the guardsmen is to hold out for a certain amount of time. And after that time limit is reached. They get turned into Ultramarines or Exterminatus is declared. While the goal of the Tyranid players. Is to kill all the guardsmen players before the time limit ends.
Basically what I was thinking was. That for the Guardsman players, it would function more like a conventional first person shooter. Well for the people playing as the Tyranids it would function more like an RTS. Think Zerg from StarCraft for a reference.
From the lyrics, it definitely sounds like you subscribe to the theory that the Tyranids are a creation of the Old Ones, called to clean up mistakes or created to "store" the genetic code of their other creations and preserve them from the C'tan. Horus switched on the beacon that called the nids back from dark space to perform their duty again.
There are to many signs to suggest that the Tyranids were anything but a genetically engineered race. There's no way they could've developed the abilities they have through a natural evolution path.
Keep up the quality. The 40k fandom is grateful
having multiple tabs open at almost the exact same timestamp is an experience. Gives the hive a few more voices
Marneus Calgar: "ROUND TWO, COCKROACH!"
It’s a good thing I remembered to bring bug spray
The ultramarines wants to know your location
Instead of shadow in the warp the tyranids just start broadcasting this directly into the brain of every Psycher
This just hit's something in me, I keep coming back.
What is a drop of rain, compared to the storm? What is a thought, compared to a mind? Our unity is full of wonder, which your tiny individualism cannot even conceive.
Im feeling hungry right now !
the hunger is eternal!
When you go to grandma's house and actually eat all the food she has prepared and still want more.
Thank you soooo much for making a song that encapsulates the entirety of the Tyranids existence
I have repeated this song SO many times yes i love it
10th Edition be like:
This song also fits the unbidden, cause they too... See us....
As food
Emperor of mankind: "I'm the single strongest entity in 40k!"
Hivemind: "lol. Lmfao".
Our tendrils have parted the cracks in the stars,
As we slip through the space in-between.
Cacophony echoes through the dark of the sky
And the air starts to split at the seams
The need has arisen to shed this shell;
We take on ancient forms, once forgot.
A hunger is growing as the swarm is amassed,
We're compelled to the prey we have caught
We are the sea of gnashing jaws;
And slashing claws
WE ARE CONCLUSION, WE ARE THE MAW
You are the chosen, gathered livestock,
Marching solemnly to the gates
OF THE SLAUGHTER INSIDE OUR WALLS
Drink of the precious sanguine nectar,
In order to become more
DECANTERS THAT CAN ONLY BE FILLED THROUGH WAR
Blurring the lines between to deform
And of to transform
WE ARE THE WRITHING, SWIRLING STORM
Prey casts light into the darkness,
Heeding the misgivings of their fear
Blindly casting beacons out; they guide us,
Instead of holding their shadows near
Amidst the wavelengths that have always guided,
We are directed to the call
Unfathomed cause; forsaken thoughts,
Bring everything to a crawl
Creep through the stillness
It shrouds us, the silence
We're waking, I'm stalking
Enduring, painstaking
I'm shaking, they're calling (WE'RE AMALGAMATING)
The massacre's calling
They've noticed the dawning (THE SWARM IS NOW RISING)
Of our Magnum Opus
Our tendrils have parted the cracks in the stars,
As we slip through the space in-between.
Cacophony echoes through the dark of the sky
And the air starts to split at the seams
The horizon is sundered to announce our return,
A thousand bodies, with one mind that yearns
They are blind to the beauty of synchronization
And so succumb to our predation
Every fleeting moment, every passing hope,
That is mercilessly dashed, it is all entailed
To facilitate consumption; infinite resumption
Of the countless cycles of starving want
Our unfathomable desires,
Shared through the hive mind,
Are an inexplicable fate assigned
Our evolution is impending, this universe will end
It's purpose is served, as we ascend

"Trazyn didnt even notice it at first. The humans, the tau, even the huge marines seemed... uncertain. As the huge cloud of purple spores ascended from the sky, and the electronic systems of the highest towers began to fall out, he noticed how the terminators seemed to shiver in their armor. He couldn't feel it in any way, but a dark, rotten, otherworldly stench passed through the air from above their heads.
He looked around. The sister was silently praying, the Commissar just stared up silently, and the guardsmen seemed dangerously close to deserting. The Kriegsman nervously handled his bayonett, and the Astartes stared to the sky, with grimm visages as always. But under those helmets, they were trembling, he could feel that. And the confusion and fear that befell the fire warriors was so much that he didnt even want to ficus on it.
And in this moment he realised that everyone around him was afraid. They would fall to the swarm, be torn apart and consumed, and everything and everyone he was seeing right now would probably die within the next sixteen seconds.
It would take three hours for everything on the planet to be consumed.
It would take eleven hours for them to drink away the entire ocean.
It would take sixteen hours for the swarm to adapt to the entire planet.
It would take twenty hours until the entire planet would be just another piece of rock in space, drained of all life and history, all erased within a single day.
The great devourer had arrived."
- Apocalypsis Aquarius
The Synapse-to-gothic translator is quite clearly stuck in "pop idol" mode.
To be fair, if the Hive Mind decided to evolve to communicate with humanoids for whatever reason, it would probably be interpreted as a sort of psychic song, as the Tyranids are definitely trying to get your attention, and the more melodic form would be picked up from their former prey.
Even though a lot of people are talking about the voice not fitting, I love this song
Nice work! Really enjoyed the song, especially the singers attempting to sing over each other near the end. Appropriately Hive Mind-y. Though, I also wouldn't mind an instrumental version to play in the background during 40k games.
Don’t forget, the Tyranids in our galaxy are only the vanguard fleets
Goddamn. This is one of the best songs on this channel so far.
I was initially disappointed by the vocals, but they grew on me very quickly.
It sounds more cold and calculative while still sounding powerful.
"It's purpose is served, as we ascend" Holy shit.
Played this in the background of a battle between imperial guard ( my friend ) and my genestealer cult led by holy one Gabriel morogue
Oh, wow! Amazing!! Thank you for sharing!!!!!😃
