The Batman was not marketed or made to be an action movie, it takes Batman back to his roots as the greatest detective in the world. Given that context I think it very much succeeds. It’s more of a psychological thriller.
the riddler didn't know batman's real identity. the way he talks "bruuuce wayne" was suppose to misdirect the audience into thinking that the riddler knew. but, then the riddler said, "he's the one we didn't get." meaning bruce wayne was the one the riddler didn't get to kill bc the bomb that was sent to wayne manor exploded and almost killed alfred instead. you could see from batman's eyes and body language when he realized that the riddler didn't know.
By the way, Ras Al Ghul is on the fantastical side of Batman lore...he's over 500 years old and has been resurrected from the Dead numerous times in the comics.
I've gone back and foruth if I like or dislike this movie. There parts I love, like Gotham, mood, actors, music, sets, and more. Then there's thing I don't like. My biggest complaint is we didn't get the Riddler. I wish they pulled a switch and the villain was Hush. It would've made things make more sense because this movie doesn't have the Riddler. Also mixed on the ending. Just felt rushed and weak. I did like the theme in the ending. He has to be more then just vengeance. I think that true and great. I don't know. Like I said. I can't decide were this movie ranks or how much I enjoy it. I've watched it three times now . Any after all this time. I am excited to see what they do in the next film.
FYI, Matt Reeves shot another scene with Batman and (supposedly) Joker that he later released and is now available on RUclips. It's a deleted scene but I think he later chose to release it anyway as some kind of teaser for the 2nd Batman movie. We will most likely see more Joker in the 2nd movie. ruclips.net/video/FZNWLGL_CxI/видео.html
This film was an 8/10 film for me after the first and second watch. Now after the twentieth plus, it's a 4/10. Outside of the cinematography making Gotham look like Gotham and Everything to do with Penguin, this was a mediocre film at best, in my opinion. Batman seemed passive and not stealthy. The thing that took me out of the film was the fight scenes and his knocking on the front door of the Iceberg Lounge in his batsuit. I'll leave it there.
My LEAST favorite Batman movie except for 'BATMAN and ROBiN'. But at least 'Batman and Robin' is hilariosly bad, but this movie is just bad and even worse...Boring. I really didn't like Patterson as Bruce Wayne/Batman and certainly didn't like the portrayal of the Waynes or Alfred. Don't need a brooding Bruce Wayne AND a brooding Batman! And some detective Batman was....he couldn't figure out the flying mouse is a Bat??? And the over the top acting of the Riddler was just plain ridiculous. Ugh, I hope the sequel NEVER happens.

One of the greatest CBMs of all time

Ohhhhh okay yeah that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!
DEFINITELY time for a s7ven review!!!! This can't be your profession without seeing that movie!!!

Yeah they gave the impression in the Christopher Nolan trilogy that there was fantastical shit about him but nothing particularly specific
I always throw Pittsburgh in my Gotham city vibe list. The Christian Bale trilogy was filmed some in the Steel City so it’s an all 3 city list to me.
Fair enough

It’s a pretty difficult movie to rate for sure haha

Knocking on the door in a bat suit is hilarious though haha

You don't have to want to see the movie but to wish it never gets made for all of us that loved this Batman and want a sequel is kinda weird
I also didn't love this movie. It was a mediocre 4/10 film for me.
If it’s digging deeper into corruption look up the Court of Owls
