I'm hoping they make a Mass Effect Keep (Should call it Citadel instead) of sorts like they did with Dragon Age, where all choices you've made in the trilogy can be selected, saved, and used for the new game(s). If Shepard lives, still hoping we can play as him/her again if you want to, and not just a different character option.

This has renewed my hype for the game. I’m excited, curious, and confused as to how this will work out. Part of me wonders what would happen if Shepard lives and that relation to the protagonist. If the possibility of Shepard is open then that means we are getting a new protagonist unless we play as liara. If they give a new protagonist then what happens if Shepard lives. Depending on time table I can almost picture Shepard in a wheelchair recuperating from a long list of mental and physical injuries as well as the theory they may need to be monitored for indoctrination. If they are gone then?…

HA, I was right! I knew they would not canonize an ending! Several months ago, I mentioned that in a post at a different content creator, and he thought it would be too much of a job to make all endings viable. I know this is still just a theory, but I would be more surprised if it were not true than if it were true.

@kalaelizaeth I realized this last year, the best way to allow all players choices to matter is a new game that changes based on player options. Andromeda made you choose whether the legendary Commander Shepard was male or female. Imagine... a post-apocalyptic galaxy without multi-system institutions, a new hero makes difficult moral choices, forcing him or her on a path that reveals in game the true fate of Shepard and co. A challenge, but a game with vast replay potential, allowing nearly all outcomes to be explored.

I think we will know just how important our choices are when or if they create a mass effect 'keep' site so we can enter them. One like the Dragon Age Keep that pulls our data or lets us enter our choices so we have a world state to start with. Then again they might be assuming that everyone has boughten and played MELegendary.

I honestly think the fan base have been underestimating the devs, especially when it comes to the involvement of andromeda. There is this assumption that they have wrote themselves into a corner and will just have to canonize one of the endings. Having an incredible writing team aside, bioware has been planning for years, even before andromeda came out and always had the intention of continuing the series and connecting the two galaxies

The queston to arise as a result of this theory is how would they handle transferring impactful choices and the endings to the next game. Figure it'll likely either be copnsiderably expensive close to unrealistic or be limited to cosmetic changes like people walking around having glowing eyes.

    • @paragonseven
      @paragonseven  5 месяцев назад +3

I have some crazy ideas on how this could work that I can't wait to share. I think they can make it work with all the endings and have a coherent plot for the next game.

    • @lumina1104
      @lumina1104 5 месяцев назад +1

Agreed. For every decision to really matter, decisions would need to significantly alter the world state. Simple cosmetic changes wouldn't be enough to give past decisions weight. It would be quite expensive to develop a game where so many things could be very different and BioWare needs some wins after Anthem and ME: Andromeda. The pragmatic approach would be to canonize the perfect destroy ending. Everyone loved playing as Shepard, even if they didn't choose perfect destroy. So, giving players the ability to play as Shepard again, without having to make a game that's 500GB, would be cheaper and ensure that the game would sell. It would be more pragmatic.

This was one of the theories I talked about a while back :) I think they will think of the most important choices (all games considered) and let you pick them at the start of the game so when you go to play it, the playthrough suits those big choices you chose when you started the game. Mass Effect 2 or Mass Effect 3 (I can't remember which at the top of my head) implemented this if you didn't play the previous entries. I think this would be smart since you can't really import a character due to the frostbite change they made with Andromeda, but the switch to UE5 indicates they could do this so we get to play the choices we made.

Ok one thing i will say about Deus Ex's endings and dont get me wrong im a huge fan of these games BUT the ending variations were just how the final cutscene plays out and how Adam talks about it at the end, you dont really see your choices play out properly you just hear Adam talk about a potential future in different ways depending on the ending choice and how many people you killed, then in Mankind Divided, its not addressed at all, that leaves you option to choose your personal canon but it also doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things because the sequel doesnt show the consequences, plus because they are prequels to the original Deus ex games, i dont think they will matter much anyway.
However the build up to the endings does have impressive variations and Adam especially is a huge part of that because you can have his personality in a variety of different ways and the world will react to you and i am exited to have Mary on the project 100% but personally the endings arent what i think of when it comes to importance of player choice.

What if I'm not a big fan of seeing the same story from three different eyes? What if I'm a big fan of Mass Effect because it's a classic RPG where I create my own character and experience the story through his eyes? What if I don't like it when the game takes away my character at a random moment and forces me to play as some secondary NPC, depriving me of the immersion and completely killing the atmosphere and the mood?

This is what I've wanted! I theorize this was one of the reasons Legendary Edition was released. The new game will probably be cross-gen, and if that's true, all of your choices could apply to the next game. This is the best option, because it allows for player choice, the fundamental principle of the series, to form their own story.

  • @Shadowscreemer
    @Shadowscreemer 5 месяцев назад +1

I kind of wonder who's going to be the protagonist for the new Mass Effect. I have some doubts about it being Shepard, regardless of our ending. Only one of the four endings allows Shepard to live (presumably), so I don't think BioWare will fully commit to making dual story for Shepard and not-Shepard protagonist. Likewise, I don't think we're gonna be playing as any of our old companions, since you can't realy customise them, because they are already established characters, not to mention that a lot of them could've died along the way. Well, this either ends up being a fresh new start for the series, or we can start baking muffins.

Hi I'm new to your channel and I appreciate your perspective as someone new to the ME games. I would like to add a few things as an very old ME fan. I was in the BSN when it was still a thing and waiting for ME3 with the rest of the fans. I also saw most of discusions around the endings back when it was the bare minimum, we didn't even have the slideshows added post release. It was a shitshow of epic proportions. I don't know if you know this but the ME3 endings and The Deus Ex games have a a very close connection. Basically the original Deus Ex game and ME3 have the exact same endings with respect to both of the games plots - Control, Merge and Destroy. The connection was picked up almost immedeately by the fans and it started a rumour that the writers, but more specifically Casey Hudson wanted to copy them. It was a very unpopular decision back in the day among the fans as the two games have fundamentaly different settings (even though they are both action RPGs). Now Deus Ex Human Revolution was a soft reboot of the franchise.

It's interesting seeing how Deus Ex handled the contradicting endings by essentially not making it important for the subsequent game. And of course now with Mary DeMarle joining MENext, will she do something similar or find a way to make them all work? I'm excited to see what the ME team decides!

There will always be hate in every civilization that is out there and let you have the option to go down that route or want to change and help others. Either help Legion and Tali or destroy the Geth. Also let you have the option to romance anyone nomatter what you chose to be, Shepard or Femshep. Since it is our choice they care about, let us live the life we want by our choice not by what other people want us to do like alot of people on Twitter/X want us to act.

Also, I like the idea Conrad being like the Carmine brothers from Gears of War. Eg, he'll be included OR maybe his child (presuming he had one)

I am still trying to beat DD:Dark Arisen's final boss and it has been years. DD devs never really discuss it but you can choose different outcomes for your Arisen. I would skip Baldur's Gate because for me it is buggy as heck and I haven't made it out of Act 1 because of all the ctd. I bought it about a month ago. If your on PC, I would grab some mods that completely upgrade/change ME legendary and try that out. Mod Fallout 4 with Sim Settlements 2 and enjoy one of the best questlines every made.

… so, Andromeda Galaxy is also in the next Mass Effect… and somehow the game brings Andromeda and the Milky Way together. This could be wormholes (particularly speaking on the anomalies mentioned in radio traffic in one of the trailers), and I’ve got to wonder if our choices in ME: Andromeda would matter as well…
You’re probably right regarding us players writing the new game and taking all previous choices into the next game. That is how Mass Effect has always been. It would make no sense otherwise. Personally, I always tend to do the perfect destroy ending to ME3 and so in my game, Shepard lives. All of them live, in fact. Except Legion, poor guy.

One thing people may not have mentioned that kind of kills the theory of a citadel defense force fighting back against the reaper forces when the reapers took control of the citadel is that if it had been me, and I did not want to deal with resistance inside of the citadel, and wanted to simply process the population the first thing I would do is shut off the life-support. If they have control of the Citadel, it wouldn’t be anything for them to do that.

I dunno. The huge variety of choices ultimately leads to a mighty big knot that needs to be untangled. I say have a canonical ending and start off from that point and then you are not constrained by previous decisions. I say have a few big decisions like cyberpunk but not to the point where it strangles the narrative of the game. The larger question that needs to be asked is: how do you make this game interesting after the galactic stakes of the previous one? Where do you possible go from something like that? A personal story perhaps?

Unlike many other games the endings of ME3 are in its effects so vastly different that it would be hard to impossible to write another story after the events of ME3 in the same galaxy.
Many Franchises do not have that problem. Whether its Dragon Age , Cyberpunk, The Witcher etc. But Mass Effect does.
Shepard itself is irrelevant towards that.
But if all life in the milky way has been merged with reaper technology it is inescapable. Same goes for the other 3 variations. Hell, one ending is literally the reapers winning which means no known races anymore at all.
One can say a lot about the execution of Andromeda and the Games Quality. But the premise. The premise is fucking genius. It could have been the start of another story across multiple games in another galaxy. If ME Andromeda would have been a success, we would now already playing the third entry of the series.

Well, I would place that in the same category of the edge case scenario from ME2 where Shepard doesn't survive the Collector Base Mission. Essentially, thats just the end of the line for that particular player story. In the same way, players who went with "Refusal" in ME3 have also closed off their story that playthrough. Placing an emphasis on player choice may mean having to still ignore some of the rarer outcomes. And given that Liara only dies on the beam run if the player failed to acquire the minimum war assets, I think it would be reasonable for BioWare to treat that as a failure on the player's part much akin to what I mentioned from ME2. In that respect, not allowing an import would actually be respecting the player's created storyline. And if that player wants a longer story, they will need to make different choices.
      Just my thoughts.

I personally don't think the refuse ending will transfer over. There's a reason the credits didn't roll after choosing that ending. It shunts you back before making the final ending choice when you re-load into the game.
And I've said this before, if players want a game that takes into account a universe where the Reapers won, then be prepared to wait 10-15 years for the next Mass Effect game, and pay double the price of an average game. There needs to be something linear between sequels, winning the Reaper war seems like a logical choice considering that's the *entire point* of the trilogy.

@@axelnilsson5124 So nearly half of the people who played LE chose the only ending that has a potential for Shepard to be alive? And the remaining 55% were split between the other three endings (Control, Synthesis, Refuse)?
Unless at least 46% of the remaining players chose one of those three, this makes Destroy the majority opinion.

@@Blindluck92 it wasn’t displayed if it was the normal destroy ending where Shepard dies anyways and the romance option putting their name on the memorial wall or the perfect destroy ending where the romance option didn’t put their name up before going back to the ruins of London showing Shepard’s gasp so even then it may be even less who saw Shepard’s struggle of survival even after choosing destroy

That's incredible! Hopefully that means that all the relationships will continue!
Plus I'm hoping that it won't be such a "boys club " my daughters hate Mass Effect because of it. They were the ones who pointed out to me how unfair Bioware's write was towards Femshep.
My youngest broke her copy of the game in half and put it down the garbage disposal.
Of course I have to wonder I'd Miranda is happy?

Here's to hoping the relationships do continue! I think we could substitute anyone in that one Gamble tweet, and his answer would have been the same. In Miranda's case (and everyone really because of the potential final beam run sequence), her happiness depends on if she's alive...
It's an interesting discussion around FemShep differences compared to MShep. I personally liked the nuances, particularly the Harkin club interaction in ME1, and the dumb batarian during the Archangel mission in ME2. I found it realistic and appreciated it for that reason, but I can easily see how it would rub some people the wrong way.
I also love playing games with female protagonists, and noticed that Mass Effect actually had fewer sexist interactions than most games I've played so far, so I found Mass Effect refreshing.

I did like playing femshep. But honestly I don't think they treated her fairly in the relationship department.
Bioware clearly wants. It. Shepard with Liara to me felt forced. But that who my Femshep is with normaly. Thane might of been a good male option for Femshep, but Bioware never alllowed it. I think because FoxNews Bioware didn't give Femshep the same "healthly options they gave BroShep. Again, my daughters were pissed and it cause me to take 2nd look.
As Tali and Miranda are extremely loyal to BroShep.
Tali, Miranda and Jack were supposed to be available to both Shepards, but bioware decided to make it BroShep only after they got slammed on air.
I do hope there are new aliens and new crew relationships like EDI and Joker. But to make a new relationship for Shepard when there are set ones would be less than enjoyable

I did like Femshep as well. Jennifer Hale does an amazing job bringing Shepard to life.
I just got so sick of how they changed the relationship options after the FoxNews did their Mass Effect review.
Maleshep got strong healthy long lasting relationships and Femshep other than Liara and Garrus there wasn't long lasting relationships but filled with one off. Thane, Kelly, Sam are doomed.
Garrus was eighter over protective or obnoxious and Liara was overly Jelious and kinda manipulative.
I think femshep should of had Tali and Miranda as options as well.
Jack is unbelievable fun character but as written she doesn't do romances just sex.
I Honestly believe Bioware wants Liara and Shepard together, but it feels so forced. Miranda and Shepard felt natural over the course of the game.
But that is just my opinion.
Now I do hope new aliens and new crew relationships are involved.
But bringing in a new romantic interest for Shepard, Liara or Miranda is a mistake.
We know Tali and Garrus get together. But I know my youngest daughter would like see Shepard and Aira together but she never took any other character as a LI for Shepard

@@Brinic1 Ahh I see, I haven't romanced the other FemShep options yet, so I haven't been able to judge that.
From what I've seen of Garrus, Kaiden, and Thane though, they seem loyal and non-toxic partners.
I'm sure the ME team won't force us to romance someone we don't want to, everyone would riot lol.

Well, in my opinion, it is easy to continue the story if you chose the destroy ending. There should be no threat in the galaxy if you chose other endings. More like eternal peace. There has to be a canon ending.

  • @BlueBoxRevan
    @BlueBoxRevan Месяц назад

That sounds great on paper. But how will it be implemented. The major choices is far to wide and between. You shoot for everything, you make mediocre at best.
There is only so much you can do before you water down the new plot to make all your choices amount to very little to nothing.
That said *SOME* choices must be cannon for a fluid story to flow smoothly.
Shepard is larger than life. You can't just throw away *Shepard might live*
That doesn't fly with someone as mega impactful as Shepard.
They need to choose an ending. And allow the smaller major choices as variables. That's a lot easier to make a game around. Mass Effect had a ton of choices. That is a difficult thing enough to take into account.
Personally, they should go by the happy ending mod ending to simplify things and retcon the Star child.

The problem with this is that you segregate the experience too much. It would cost a fortune just to make a short game, and nobody experiences a similar enough story to relate as a fanbase. They NEED to make canon choices when it comes to the major ones. Namely, the endings, geth war, and genophage cure.

Sounds all great ... But is this not a bit too much ..( 3 end points, who live and dies, Andromeda , Shepard ?, )...it has the risk it can't live up to expectations ...
Bioware needs to make a hard choice for one of the endings. And build from there the best ME game they can and make it a success...otherwise it's all over for ME ... But most important stop hyping up the next ME that is still years out (2027/2028)

They will probably do that comic thing at the beginning, where players can input their choices if they no longer have a save file. So you will be able to input the ending where Shep lives. 🎉
