I've said this a thousand times as long as the story is strong the game will be too bugs are a major issue look at andromeda a good game, but when launched it pretty much killed the game right out the gate. Gameplay is king but so is the writing and for Dragon Age, how well this game nails a cinematic feel.

Your point about DAI's combat is a bit flawed. DAI in fact brought back some of the more tactical features from Origins, most notably the top down tactical view, which DA2 didnt have. It didn't move the combat further away from Origins than DA2, it was more of a middle ground. Personally I think one of the reasons DAI was more succesful than DA2 is not because it was less like Origins, but because it brought back multiple features from Origins that DA2 didnt have.

What has me worried is the dropping the amount of companions from the 3 to2. I am worried that it is going to limit the class that you can play as rook by what companions you want to take. Inquisition let you play any character you wanted because you did not have to rely so much on the Trinity. Although, I hated Solas but for the first play through, you had to take him everywhere to find the little orbs. I can’t wait to throw Solas off a building lol

Just not a big fan of making it more ME. Judging from what they've shown so far the depth of the "tactics" is pretty much just the mass effect pause. They also reduced the number of companions, it just seems like there isn't any positive trade-offs for these reductions, bringing back the "else-if-or" tactics of DAO would be the perfect trade-off for the reduced companions. Inquisition was a middle ground between tactical and action, should've stuck with that. My highest hope for this release is that it keeps bioware floating until mass effect.

I got into Mass Effect from playing Dragon Age Origins. I wasn't keen on action-rpg type games, preferring the strategy style. But, as the sequel to Origins was taking some of the gameplay mechanics from Bioware's other series, I thought, okay, it's on Mass Effect isn't full price anymore, try it out and see what it's like and if I don't like it I won't get DA2. I played Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 several times before DA2 came out, then played DA2 several times before Mass Effect 3 came out, and then play ME3 several times before DA :Inquisition came out.
I got Mass Effect Andromeda day-1, and while I had a few glitches with it, nothing as bad as other people had, and I enjoyed the game (not as much as the original trilogy, but then ME1 is not my favourite of the original trilogy), especially the combat gameplay, which Veilguard's combat reminds me of.
I am cautiously optimistic for Veilguard. What I've seen so far I like.

Not sure how the new DA is like ME after seeing the new DA trailer and playing every ME game (and DA games).
The new game has a lot to prove, the trailer hasn't quelled many DA fan concerns either after the long delays. Personally, to me it looks like a button masher where your teammates do very little which is a far departure from the rest of DA games.
Better to wait until reviews are out and see extensive gameplay footage before buying this one.

The only ''sales numbers'' I can find are Steam sales. DA:Inquisition $8.1 million // DA:Origins $6.7 million + DA:Origins - Ultimate Edition $16.2 million. That's obviously just steam and I don't even know how ''real'' those numbers are but I think a lot of people understimate how succesful DA:O really was and is. DA4 combat change is the more drastic one out of any DA with some of the features included on every other DA title gone for good this time. You also have to take into consideration the fact that most action combat fans are not fans of rpg narratives and ''reading time'' making DA4 an off-putting title for many of those potential customers.
Even the narrative, wich is the basket were most people have put all their eggs(hopes) is affected by losing the DAKeep and only having a few choices regarding reactivity with older titles.
I don't think DA4 is going to be the financial success some people think it's going to be, specially for the greedy suits at EA but time will tell.

Veilguard has around 200k sales on steam and an all time peak of 70k. If we double that (highly generous) for consoles, that's 400k sales, which equates to 24 million dollars (probably 20 accounting for manufacturing costs, sales tax, shipping etc) and they likely spent around 200-250 million making this game.(compared to inquisition which costed 150, andromeda 100). They would need to sell like 6 million copies to break even, which they aren't even close to making a million.

So I pretty much disagree with you on every level. I watched your video to to its end, as I wanted to hear your whole argument. Reasons one through three, I don't think we're great arguments. If they would have pivoted towards the CRPG for dragon age 3, it very well could have sold more. It didn't happen so we'll never know. They also included more CRPG elements to dragon age 3 then they did in two. I didn't think the gameplay looked very fun, neither did the story, and the characters look somewhat bland compared to what we've seen into the past as well.
I don't believe supporting a franchise is good just so you can get another game either. In my opinion that line of thinking only encourages additionally poor writing, unless thought out games.
Nostalgia sells? Look at Star wars. That is not the case. Bad story writing and bad franchise decisions can ruin IP. We have seen Star wars reintroduce familiar characters, And it was received very poorly by the fans. Terminator, aliens, Star Trek, DC, marvel, all are examples that show nostalgia doesn't work if you don't have good writing or direction.
I want dragon age 4 to be a good game. But it's just not looking like it's going to be based off of what we've been given. But that's just my take. Thanks for the video

For the good writing. The same people that write DAO write also in DA2 and DAI and have written for DA:TV. The writer for sten also wrote Varric and have written Lucanis. So i don't see the bad writting. Only in DA2 they haven't enough time for good writing.

There is no point to arguing it so I won't because it will always come down to an unknown, you miss every shot you don't take.
David Gaider the chief, writer of ,DA1, DA2, and DA3, explained how he had a to write dragon age 2 quickly with his team, and how much of the story kept getting cut. So yes, it was still poor writing because they kept cutting out stuff, but you can clearly see they have the potential too write better stuff when they were put on the line and given the opportunity to(hence his comeback with DA3). David is no longer writing for them, it is now Patrick weeks. He make some decent characters, but the dlcs he has put out have been alright. Studio direction also has a big outcome on things to, and bioware has been notorious for letting us down, So I wouldn't put any money on it.

  • @Russman67
    @Russman67 5 месяцев назад +4

There are some solid points here. Part of the issue with day one release bugs is that developers were trying to make the product backwards compatible. Andromeda was on the current console and the previous console. And in order to get bugs fixed for the Xbox series X, you would break something on the Xbox One. Same with the PlayStations 4 and 5 builds. Not having to code for that many variables should keep us from having to deal with that kind of randomness. Also the initial trailer for Dragon Age origins sounded like an opening riff put together by Wayne and Garth from Wayne's world. It had nothing to do with the actual game. It's a trailer which means it's a commercial and the commercial is supposed to get your attention. It got your attention.

Good video, thanks... Andromeda has issues, but it's not 100% terrible... The deadpan faces, odd dialogue for some companions, and so on do hurt the game... But I wouldn't call it a complete failure, as I did mostly enjoy it up to a point... Using mods to get around some of the quality-of-life issues also helps... Andromeda has a main story ending, but technically you can keep playing it forever, because it has lots of repetitive open world elements... But you can call it quits after you've exhausted the main story and most/all the side missions (which is what I did after my first playthrough) ... It has issues, sure, but if you're looking to scratch the ME itch after the trilogy, it's not a bad filler game... You can also play the trilogy with a bunch of Mods installed, and try a few new decisions each playthrough...
As to Veilguard, it's obviously not going to be a 100% side by side comparison to prior games, even if it is full on a sequel... It's been so many years, and the development teams at Bioware from back in DA hay day is probably no longer there in the same capacity... So, I totally expect there to be a few drastic changes... My only concern right now for Veilguard is that because the action combat is even more actiony then before, how well will the various archetypes workout alongside the companions... While obviously nothing is set in stone yet, the game play trailer did show a few possible problems which is probably the more blaring concerns for most folks... The Companions appeared to do very little damage, leaving it mostly up to the player character to micromanage their bigger attacks... Which makes you wonder if they've removed the AI customization option, so prevalent in all previous titles... Also, they didn't show how the combat plays out with a fully ranged player character... So, we don't really know if this newer, more actiony system (compared to Inq), will be a hinderance for Ranged focus builds or not... The game play trailer never really showed that, beyond a couple bow pop-shots...
In the end, if Veilguard does really well, then I think we will definitely see a ME sequel at some point, barring EA laying even more people off from Bioware... That's the bigger concern when it comes to these bigger conglomerate corporate publishing companies... You never know what they will do or how much pressure they will bear down with on to their Studios... Or how much they might interfere with production... Only time will tell... All we can do is be hopeful... :)

Ooh someone must’ve gifted me a membership, thank you kind stranger!
I’ve played all the DA games but never got as hooked on them as ME. The snails pace of combat has always partly been why, with DA2 probably being the only entry that had combat I enjoyed and didn’t just feel like I was playing some MMO “stand still, hold mouse1 and occasionally pop a cooldown ability” type of combat. The gameplay we’ve seen of Veilguard looks a lot more fluid, positional, and faster-paced so I’m digging that so far, but we’ll have to see if that holds true for all the classes or if the dodging and such was just a rogue ability. In Inquisition the warriors all felt like they had lead ankle weights on and the mages all stood stock still when they fought except the fun specialization one that zipped around with the magic sword

Ill start by saying i respect most of the opinions on biowares games as of late and agree with more than a few. However, while I'm not blown out of the water by veilguard yet i am interested in it and hope it does well. Fanbases are always going to fight when the game direction shifts. At the end of the day im a baby millenial who did play kotor so i get the sentiment from that part of the crowd but im also modular in my tastes(Greedfall is shifting from action rpg to tacticalcrpg...much of that community did not react well to this, nor did i but ill adapt.). Much of this only truly hurts for those that have a preference for that style of gameplay and are inflexible. I can understand that as someone who adored Origins for its silent protag, writing and origins system for backgrounds. But ive found in every dragon age game something ive enjoyed alot. While theres other things i cant stand(I loved hawke and the companions in 2. Hated the repetitive area design. Virtually everyclass was boring outside of mages in origins.) Ive had less of this issue with mass effect start to finish becuase its been more consistent then this in terms of game direction etc. All we can do is give the game a fair shake at this point instead of losing our minds. It sucks to move away from the crpg style but it feels like a battle that wont end ever with the community especially with how long ago they moved away from it. Sucks for me becuase i like both styles of game and i hope bioware experiments with that style again some day. (Baldurs gate 3 was enjoyable but i wasnt blown away with it. The game is just divinity wearing BG's skin in my opinion.)

I started an Inquisition playthrough last month after the Veilguard hype and found it very challenging to get going using kbm, kept getting stuck in some weird camera view and could not get out plus key assignments did not seem well thought out for ease of use . Everyone kept telling me to get a controller which is something I have never used. Eventually got so frustrated, I stopped playing and started up an Andromeda playthrough instead. Maybe will go back to Inquisition after this break lol. If anyone has any tips for kbm with that game, let me know!

I mean this just looks like a great blend between final fantasy 16 and mass effect. Which Is not a complaint!! And I also have loved all the other DA games. I think baldurs gate 3 showing that turn based strategy games are still cool and enjoyable is great! But I’m a dragon age fan before I am a turn based fan and if the story is good then I’m sold. I think the combat looks super fun. ME2 is my favorite game ever made so if the game is getting compared to that, all the more reason to be excited. and I’m clearly praying that this game does well critically because the pressure is on for this to succeed. The next mass effect relies on this game doing well. I don’t need it to be game of the year just show us the BioWare magic is still there. The fact that BioWare is the underdog is crazy but I believe they can come back. LFG BioWare!

You don't have too. DAO is a stand alone and DA2 only a DLC is a bit importent for DAI. Some gamer first play DAI and DA2 and DAO after that. Their shouldn't be a problem.

They're technically all standalone games, so no you don't have to complete any of the previous games, but characters from previous games do come back. Up to you whether that aspect of it makes it worthwhile.

I honestly would play Inquisition at least. I would defintely play on pc and mod it so you can skip or buy the items for the fetch quests for Inquisition. If you don't play on pc, leave the Hinterlands asap. There are a lot of people with lore videos and summaries of all the media if you want to catch up. Ghil probably has the best.

I I’ll be getting this game as soon as I can. Now the sad thing what is going to happen in November in the United States is going to have a huge effect on the gaming industry as a whole it’s bad the same people that pushed the satanic panic for Dungeons & Dragons and blaming video games for violence it’s bad I’m so sorry for bringing this to your channel but it needs to be talked about, but I will accept being banned I’m sorry

Idk about that, people play games in part to escape reality, and people may need that come November more than ever... though I think DA4 will drop before that. We shall see.

One thing that i'm hoping will carry over from veilguard to mass effect if it is truly what bioware says it is- is the character creation system. I wanna be able to customize my character in mass effect the same way veilguard allows us to do with rook. And i hope that they program the game's outfits to support the different body types players will make.

100% same. ME Next is rumoured to be in Unreal Engine 5 compared to the Veilguard's Frostbite though, so it might not be a direct transfer. However, I assume the ME team would want the same amount of intricacy for their character creator.

1st did you even play DAO DA2 DAI? DA2 is more action rpg than DAO or DAI, but DAI is not an arpg. DAI is a close return to form that people wanted, it is not a full crpg but close enough to retain new players and bring back on board DAO players. 2nd changes in game play is one thing, changes in "art style" is a hole other bag. DA as a franchise has always been Dark, Gritty, for MA, Realistic. Now you change the hole feel of the franchise by going full arpg and pixar movie graphics, change the daemons and the dark spawn in to the "toon world" version. So please stop trying to minimize how Fans like me who played DAO DA2 and DAI day 1 feel. It is players like us that made the franchise what it is, if we did not stick by through DA2 asking for the return to form with DAI you would not even be seeing this game. So slapping the face of the players that made the franchise sales what they are, that is why we are upset. Then you have people coming late to the party saying well its always been like this slapping the other side of are face.

I disagree that DAI was a return to form. Both DAI and DA2 are heavily action oriented.
DAO was closer to crpg that an arpg but it was still influenced by arpg’s.

Less than 10% of players even used the tactical cam in inquisition, most dragon age players play the games as action games. I know you think you’re speaking for an enormous fraction of the fanbase, but you aren’t, you’re in the minority.
All the games changed artstyle, literally none of them look alike. The “dark grittiness” of origins is massively blown out of proportion. It isn’t significantly darker or edgier than really any other mainstream fantasy rpg.
By the way, I have around 10k hours in origins, 4k in 2, and 2.5k in Inquisition, so don’t even think you can speak for hardcore origins fans. You’re upset because things change, but that’s life. Keeping the series stagnant and crystallized in 2009 game design isn’t loving the franchise, it’s a fear of change and progress.

@@odst123451I also wouldnt call it a "return to form", but DAI brought back multiple features from Origins that was missing in DA2. It felt more like a middle ground gameplay wise.

I believe less than 10% of DAO/Awakening players used the tactical aspect. I absolutely loved it because of my disability. Setting the companions abilities order was terrific. But I always end up spamming aoe as a mage because I can't play 3rd person games very well. I love DA and ME effect games because of the stories/lore not combat. BG3 was blah, never made it past the first act for so many reasons.

I actually enjoyed the tactical side of DAO and wish I had more time to set up my tactics and such, but I also grew up playing turn-based tactical RPGs like Fire Emblem so I was more inclined to like that aspect of it anyway.
My mages were waay too OP honestly. The AOE damage from spells like tempest and blizzard was incredible.

I remember the furor around DA2's release, and how it made that change to action combat.. but the game was good, all the angst at the time was unfounded, and I think it's the same with DA4 as well. I need this game to do well, for the same reason(s) you do: so that ME5 happens, and we get what we need. Hopefully Bioware will make our gaming dreams happen!

There could be a loading screen that takes one second too long and people would cry about it. One of the most legendary games of all time, Skyrim, is chock full of glitches but for some reason they got a pass. People will gripe about any little thing specifically because it's BioWare, so its best to just play the game yourself to find out. I heard all about the glitches for Andromeda but when I played (on xbo) I encountered maybe two glitches in the first 50 hours of playing
