I love writing in cursive, its a hobby of mine. I've recently just started learning Russian and one of the things I'm most looking forward to it learning the cursive.
In Brazil it's kind of like in Russia. When we're children, we learn how to write cursive, but as we get older, we tend not to connect the words perfectly and all. In my case, my handwriting became a mix of cursive and block letters, which makes my handwriting look terrible if I write moderately fast. If anyone other than me needs to read what I write, I'll usually do it in block letters. But unlike in the English-speaking countries, most people here write in cursive instead. By the way my "native" handwriting looks, I'm guessing that my cursive handwriting in Russian will look just like a doctor's, lol.
This video will help, people like me, to stay within handwriting style. Rather than the strict process of how such letters are made when handwriting. I saw a lot of letters are different from the standard methods used in Russian writing. Thanks
I love the way my handwriting looks today, how it improved over the years and looks more mature, i guess. Love to use Cyrillic as often as possible, only problem is I don't study in Serbian, but I still try to write in cursive as much as possible.
Here in belgium we also learn how to write in cursive, and yeah here too some people have handwritings that look like some cursed hieroglyphs. I have the most traditional cursive handwriting ive ever seen anyone my age use tho, but thats because i wanted to write like my gread grandmother so its not really a surprise :)) when i saw normal american handwriting for the first time i was shocked about how kids write like typewriters bruh Tho cyrillic cursive is wayyy more beautiful than latin cursive tbh
you're handwriting is so beautiful!! I'm learning russian and the cursive letters are for sure one of the most difficult parts how am I supposed to know that "gera" is actually "дела" 😭😭
Now imagine me being from Serbia, where we use both Cyrillic and Latin alphabets, I can switch at any time and see it written as you see it, or switch back to Russian and read it properly. It's incredibly advantageous to understand the two mindsets at the same time. Even though Cyrillic is the official first choice of writing, we are still far more proficient with Latin languages due to cultural proximity. It's probably weird to imagine that the brain can simply switch between the two, even though the alphabets share similar or identical glyphs interpreted differently, but that's what happens when you grow up in Serbia.
Russian - or better yet Cyrillic - cursive is more important because the block letters are impractical for handwriting in my opinion. With the Latin alphabet most adults develop a more block letter-ish handwriting (depending on culture of course, i.g. the French tend to like cursive more than English), not so much with Russian.
THOSE LETTERS AREN'T RUSSIAN. THE ALPHABET WAS INSPIRED BY THE GREEK ALPHABET AND WAS MADE FOR BULGARIANS BY KLIMENT OF OHRID (WHO WAS NOT A MACEDONIAN BECAUSE AT THAT TIME MACEDONIANS DIDN'T EXIST.). I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY THAT STUPID TO BELIEVE THAT THIS ALPHABET IS RUSSIAN BECAUSE THEY USUALLY SEE IT FROM THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE INSTEAD OF DOING A RESEARCH ABOUT IT!
@@noname-nz7me Yeah, no shit. The alphabet has only been reinvented very few times throughout history, the Romans didn't invent their alphabet, they stole it from the Greeks and Etruscans, who stole it first from the Greeks, who stole theirs from the phoenicians, etc. You can go on and find the origin of the alphabet that is most widely used in European languages and how it got changed from civilization to civilization to better fit a language. Also, don't write in caps, it's annoying.
Definitely, doctors are known universally for having REALLY bad handwriting. I think it boils down to writing everything really fast. I wonder how pharmacists manage. Do they take special lessons just for that?
As I learn from many sources (not really good sources but still) but most of them say that doctors or any 'intelligent people' tend to think faster. Making them write way faster. Which mean they dont take any time to make a good looking handwritting. Their thoughts need to be on the paper as fast as they need Anyway, I have a terrible handwritting :)
My mother's friend is a pharmacist and she says they're sometimes taught to interpret doctor's prescriptions, but they're not really formal classes, kinda more like tips and suggestions that you'd eventually pick up from your seniors and from experience. Doctors are trained to think fast, so that goes for their writing. Too bad their hands can't follow,,,
Doctors have a HORRIPLE handwriting in Brazil as well, it is TOO hard to deciphe those things, almost impossible. Bad to me ;-; Thank you for teaching me! :'v
Funny thing.... I learned cursive Cyrillic when I was 14; I only put in the minimal effort required to satisfy my Russian teacher. Years later I often had to write a few simple things in Russian for work. Native Russians often commented on how 'beautiful" my script was. I have no idea how I managed that as I certainly didn't try and my Latin cursive is almost impossible to read. Weird, huh?
This, of course, is also in Cursive. But in general, in schools they are taught to write the whole word without lifting the pen from the paper. The only exceptions are capital letters and dots / dashes above ё and й.
Thank oyu so much for the vid, after watching tons of cursive videos I was starting to think every russian writes like in 18th century xD. Though that doctor note scared me, I didn't understand a single word! Anyway thank you!!
Your handwriting is very nice but shouldn't one connect Russian letters? I prefer writing like you do (I like my handwriting when I don't connect all of them) but almost everywhere they say we should connect them... So is it fine if I don't connect all of them?
Patrick Frackowiak Hi! In my opinion, it’s okay not to connect all of your letters. As you can see, I sure don’t. Legibility is the most important thing, imho.
Is there a certain pen you'll need to have to make it easier to write? I find it difficult to write with a 'normal' pen, would I find it easier with a calligraphy pen or something? Please let me know! Спасибо!😊

Why is it hard to write? If you know how to write the individual letters and how to connect them, it shouldn't be that hard for anyone who's had some practice, let alone a native speaker. Am I missing something here?
I'm from the Arizona in the US and my school district was required to make us write cursive before middle school. I learned and had no chance at calligraphy, but I stopped writing it. Before 4th grade, my handwriting was neat and round. After, I wouldn't write cursive but I would try to loop my letters as if I was writing it. It now looks like the worse thing I have seen.

Maybe they do it on purpose, so the patients can't read it. In my country doctors usually write medical terms, diagnoses etc. in Latin.
