Let's see.. Maromi is the "poor little me" ego that people cling on to to not have to face reality.. Caused by dissonant emotions and desires.. Little Slugger is the shadow self that lurks in the unconscious, and who will destroy you if you aren't able to deal with the relationship between your immature ego, reality not always being what the immature ego wants, and the ability for the immature ego (Maromi) to grow and change.. Just my opinion anyway. Good series.
ShaktipatSeer2 too much jung, not enough actually focusing on the themes presented in the show. Little slugger is not anyone's shadow self, maromi is not a "poor me" ego; they are the same thing. They are two sides of the same coin, and they are not representing portions of people's personality or subconscious. Lil' slugger represents mass hysteria and paranoia; miromi represents not taking responsibility. As word spreads about miromi (the character), it's popularity skyrockets just as little slugger gets more powerful as more stories are spread about him by the media and regular folk. If he were a portion if someone's subconscious, it would most likely be different for everyone and would only effect that person. If miromi were the ego, everyone would have their own miromi that seemed alive to them. They more so represent an idea or a theme rather than ones subconscious and/or ego specifically. Miromi basically represents someone whom attempts to view themselves as a victim of a situation when they are in fact responsible for the situation; Lil slugger actually makes them a victim to escape said situation, but it is only temporary, as you still have to face the problem eventually. It doesn't just go away because you get hurt or you want it to; you have to accept responsibility for your actions, and only then can progress be made. That is, unless you die, in which case the problem is still there most likely; you just don't have to deal with it because you lost your life instead, and with hindsight, that's probably a worse problem than whatever was being faced originally.
@Tanner Edge Maromi is anything that provides a temporary, fleeting escape from reality. Every single consumer product and experience is Maromi. The world runs on the perpetual hamster wheel of escapism that is Maromi. Coca Cola = Maromi McDonalds = Maromi Alcohol = Maromi Ice Cream = Maromi Video Games = Maromi Netflix = Maromi [Insert anything you do instead of facing your problems here] = Maromi The list is infinite and there will always be new and sparkling versions of Maromi to replace the old Maromi. But all of it is the exact same; empty distractions that keep you running in place.
I love the concept using Lil Slugger as a why of showing how are repressed emotions manifest, and the overall psychology was amazing in this show. Fear is not to be suppressed but faced. Probably one of the better worked shows I've ever seen.
This is kind of how the anime began, if you remember that the old man predicted the events that would transpire with sukiko and ichi. Now the ending is the same as the beginning. To me, its meant to be symbolic. That new old man (Maniwa?) is predicting that history is going to transpire all over again and the people of Japan are going to find scapegoats and avoid responsibility for their lives and decisions (A prevalent theme). What a brilliant and somewhat comical ending! Another comment - this anime is not about the anime! Hence why it drifts from the plot as I see many are writing. The point of the anime is to get across a message, one that requires viewers to make mental notes and find reoccurring themes, though this is hard because I think more of Satoshi's message can be better understood in Japanese
I feel like I shouldn't have been lazy and watched with subs. haha. A lot of anime have notations when there are culture references. Dubs don't explain the cultural nuances too well.
I think when the adult Sukiko saw her dead dog she was speechless. The younger Sukiko was about to tell a lie and blame it on the dog. So that's why before young Sukiko can go and tell a lie, older Sukiko hold it really tight and said sorry instead of leaving it alone. Cause if she didn't then Lil Slugger would be formed again by a single lie that's why older Sukiko stopped that from happening. N Lil Slugger said goodbye cause he wouldn't exist anymore cause older Sukiko told the truth and if she lied she would make up a story bout Lil Slugger. And he would come alive again.

I have to say that I love the ending message which basically states that whatever happens, we go back to how we originally lived. It was stated by Ikari that the result of this event is just like a war. Even after two world wars, we still make the same mistakes which causes the same thing to happen again. This is basically a heads up to what we do and shouldn't do.

It just occurred to me that the reason she dropped the leash was a period cramp. Adulthood is what killed innocence. Ultimately this story is about the fact that life is cruel and hard to deal with, but that treating each other with love and mercy are one of the few things we can do to make life tolerable.
i was heavily invested into this series up until the point where they caught little slugger , all the anticipation just wasnt worth the dramatic build up , they caught him and started interrogated him and its a whole slew of constant ranting that defaced the story line from the original context ,after little slugger was finally caught the dynamics of the show shifted from being psychological thriller to a series of ranting that deviated from the overall theme of the show . little slugger messed up the series for me
@@k.g.7591 I stopped watching after they caught little slugger . little slugger was annoying and the constant shifts between his delusions and reality was starting to detract from the intrigue around the story line . so i stopped watching when little slugger was being interrogated
Thank you for uploading this beautifully dark demented anime. I swear it is the weirdest and most unique series I have ever seen. I'll be forever changed and demented because of it...:3
@Crack Daniels It's not exactly happy, but I don't know if I would say it's particularly a depressing end either? The running theme around the show was about accepting personal responsibility to me, so it looks like some of the characters grew as people, some of them didn't, and life continues on for them (by my interpretation though). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The fact that instead of crying hysterically when her dog died and how she only seemed worried about her father's reaction was weird. And I know everyone copes with stuff their own way, but she definitely had mental probs to begin with. That's actually what drew me to this amazing anime. Didn't know it existed until last year. Thanks, [Adult Swim]
Her father did say he felt he was too strict which is why he entertained her story about lil slugger despite knowing it was not true. He said he blamed himself for her making it up in the first place.
~ I cried openly on: a) the detective's wife dieng {that was so fucking sad} b) when the girl (Tsukiko) was holding her dead puppy in arms anyone else?
No, detective Maniwa turn the same into the old man from the first eps , this anime is circling it’s goes back to the 1st eps again and again just like real life. If you wander how His hair turn into white, there’s a disease that can turn hair into white when you get trauma
To answer a few questions I keep seeing on here, the old man at the end, I believe, is Maniwa. Also, the reason he was shocked at the end of the episode is because he found the answer to the same equation the sage from earlier had worked on. I think the equation itself has something to do with the appearances of Lil. Slugger, but that is speculation on my part.

Thanks for uploading this! I've been wanting to rewatch it forever and I never realized, as a kid, how good it was! There was so much I didn't get when I first watched it, and I feel like the Psych and Abnormal Psych classes I took in college helped me to better interpret it. It's also amazing in aesthetic terms; The dark, moody atmosphere, the way they depict the solipsistic worlds people slip into when they need to escape, all of it. I'm glad I took the time to sit down and watch this again.
although I am relatively new to anime, this is now one of the my favorite anime shows i haved watched. Thank you Satoshi Kon, you were a genius gone too soon. also thank you DetectiveManiwa for uploading all of the episodes so that I and many others can see this for the first time or rewatch such a great show! anyways with all of that, thank you
I gotta say, I understand the story behind this. It’s about a girl who hates society and it’s people. It has a meaning to it because this is all placed inside one person’s head. They give you the clear context in the part where you see Sukiko’s own dog being killed by a car and how this all created the entity Little Slugger. Everything was a thought created by her. You see how a woman compliments on her inability to give birth to a child and how they talk about people who are tired and overworked in the anime industry. I think this is something that reflects back on what Japanese society is doing and what it is like to be there. We see what resembles all the details surrounding the horror behind being apart of their own culture. That’s what this anime is about. Paranoia Agent is about what people are forced to approach in this society and what this person believes is hard about it. Someone had to be really affected by what was going on there to make this. This anime is totally frigging nuts. It’s a good series to teach about how culture can affect a person’s mentality. That’s Paranoia Agent.
this anime actually more accurate in this era how information can spread so fast & go so wrong easily about the society stuff it’s all the same , either you want to accept the reality or ditch away in your fantasy
have anyone noticed how the lil slugger says WE MEET AGAIN at the end of the first episode to tsukiko ..and how he says GOODBYE at this episode ..its kinda cool
@TheDarkSynsation So all in all it's a great message that all of us should learn from. Go back to episode one and watch the series again sometime. You will find that rather than creepy, Paranoia Agent is a very well thought out show that really makes you think about life. It also has multiple other little messages hidden in metaphors that you can have fun trying to unravel. By far the most mind-blowing anime I have ever seen. Hope you all have loved it as much as I have! (and sorry for spamming)
The most important message in this episode and the moral of the story is "that awareness makes us all to cowards and non-action is cowardice and ignorance". You get to know that at minute 7:42, when she is floating in the water under the moon like Ophelia, the same act in which Hamlet speaks this quote in acquisition to Ophelia. (Shakespearses Hamlet) This Anime is full of mindfucking metaphors.
The entire show has been a metaphor. When we find ourselves cornered we start to fear or become paronoied about "what if"s. In that fear we create excuses to ease our pain, and we will do anything to support thos excuses. However, even if we find temporary bliss, we are really just setting ourselves up for disaster because in all our excuses that fear and hurt is still burning underneath it all. Little Slugger represents the excuses we create and the downfall we eventually get from them.
Thanks so much for uploading these. :) I saw this anime years ago when it was on Adult Swim but I never saw the whole series in the right order. Seeing it all really made me appreciate what an amazing anime this is.
Alrighty, I lost my composure by the time that dog showed up. Q_Q It was all so tragic. Thank you, Satoshi Kon, for your vision~! Thank you, animators, for making this real~! And last but not least--thank you, Detective Maniwa, for uploading it all onto RUclips!
@crosser8 Lil' Slugger was the manifestation of a combination of the guilt, anxiety, and fear that Tsukiko felt after her dog was killed. He was also fed by these same emotions from other people. He both was and wasn't real. He was the end result of a long series of evasions perpetrated by everyone in the city. People who feared their problems so much they couldn't face them. Satoshi Kon illustrates the dangers of escapism in Paranoia Agent. Hope this answered your question.
All Tsukiko had to do was be honest, then everyone else wouldn't have latch onto lil' slugger to use him as a scapegoat to solve problems they would've otherwise, told the truth about. What always leaves me stumped, was Maniwa... what was the answer!?

And as the equation reach the equals symbol, the cycle shall continue.
Maniwa didn't deserve to go insane : (
"The whole world is about to end, because of a goddamn puppy".
Best. Line. Ever.
But the one question on my mind remains: DID ANYONE EVER ARREST THAT DISGUSTING PEEPING DAD?
I don't think so, I think he got away with all his wrong doings, with the cost of his house and his daughters memory. Dude was an extortionist, robber, and I think he raped the other little girl.
He kinda died.
I came here to ask this. Like, so what that she lied about a dog??? There were worse people!!!
@@cartman234 can anyone tell me about Tsukiko's father? Didn't she run away from her home and deliberately erased her memory of her father, the one which is the fat police officer and is perv who used to take his own daughter's naked photo secretly? Now, the police officer sleeps with prostitutes who calls him daddy? Isn’t this trauma Tsukiko lead her to be this delusional spaced out artist who created Marimo as comfort and defence mechanism?
when Maniwa says to Tsukiko that he went to her father and listened to her childhood stories, like about her dog Marimo and stuff?
Can I anyone explain me or have I messed up the timeline? If Tsukiko and that lil girl of the perv police officer ain't the same, then why when the old granny was recounting her granddaughter's stories, this perv officers stories were shown in the background?
Kinda confused. If anyone could help to clear the confusion that'd be great
@@salmiahakhtar3371 Two different characters. There is the artist career age. And there is the little girl whose dad is disgusting.
Well put
Coca Cola = Maromi
McDonalds = Maromi
Alcohol = Maromi
Ice Cream = Maromi
Video Games = Maromi
Netflix = Maromi
[Insert anything you do instead of facing your problems here] = Maromi
The list is infinite and there will always be new and sparkling versions of Maromi to replace the old Maromi.
I don't think I can handle whatever backstory created that kitty mascot.
"I was distracted two years ago, then my cat ran and got run over by Lil Slugger sludge. So I blamed it on Lil Mugger"
Kitty mascot? Bros watching insane cop not paranoia agent
That poor puppy. This is the best anime I have ever witnessed in my time alive. I just love everything about it. Totally should be re-aired
I am super shocked that sooooo many people are just now coming across paranoia agent! I first found it in 2006 when i was 15 and have been obsessed since!! Its truly the best anime show I've ever seen!
Well many people didn't discover this anime before cuz its a shitty anime and as you're saying this is the "best" anime you've ever seen, I think this is the only anime you've seen as there are better animes out there and this anime is utter garbage compared to other animes
Um excuseeeeeeeeeeeeee me hahhaaha? Ive seen ALOT of anime, dont fucking assume shit about somebody you know nothing about, you hating ass bitch. Dont assume i dont know anime based on the fact i dont look like a fucking geek or have a cartoon profile picture, I also perfer MOVIES over series anyday like the great work of hayao miyazaki. This is a Great Series and one of the best ANIMÉS I've ever seen
Very meaningful!!
Saw Tokyo godfathers years ago then recently came across perfect blue a bout a month ago, been on a satoshi kon kick sense.
I really liked the pace of this show. I was always guessing but I never really felt like I didn't know what was going on. This show didn't actually have a lot of deep mysteries, despite how 'weird' it's presentation got, and I liked that.
That's it fellas.
Madness, insanity, escapism, unhealthy coping mechanism and delusions that's all the show's about. I know I am a little bit late but I will be grateful for all the insights that you all provided during this little journey.
First anime i ever watched lmfao. Was a treat to revisit all these years later - thanks for the upload
The way this entire thing is presented by Santoshi Kon is just amazing!!
Seems Lil Slugger was like "I'm not even real and I'm blamed for something! I'll give you people a reason to blame me!" then when his name was cleared for the first incident, he could finally rest.
so the character she was pressured to create after maromi was lil' slugger right? he ended up being just as popular as maromi..
I didn't think about that, but that was probably something very subtle that the director put in that you may have figured out.
I thought so too
yikes....
Great analysis
@@MegaAniLinkFan Ironic that her art director that was begging for her new creation to ease the pressure he was receiving, did exactly what he wished it to do.
this is SO intense! i wish satoshi kon had been given more time to amaze us with his unique work.
; thank you
So, basically whenever she harmed herself and lied the second time it brought Lil Slugger to life? Dang.. I'd hate to have my life end over someone else's lies..
It wasn't just her, others heard her lies and loved how lil slugger relieved her stress so they invited him
Marie Antoinette I see, so they used lil sluggers “description” ? Like the sick wife who “called” him over to confront him- or well, her problems ??
Shouldn’t you be saying “I’d hate to have someone else’s life end over my lies”? :p
Non. Lil Slugger is a poltergheist. He lives on people's beliefs.
By Lying, Tsuhiko create him.
But, cause she famous, her aggression has been published. Then a copycat take the case. And the legend was launched.
And all this believe nurture the idea of lil slugger, who become a real thing.
@@Momolulu1994 Yokai. It's sorta similar but different. Remember cultural differences
But yeah, one could see it as somewhat related to poltergeists and tulpas
This show just perfectly captures forms of escapism in our current say in age. This show pretty much perfectly predicted what our society would come to do in the future, before any major forms of social media were out. Before Twitter, RUclips, Facebook, Instagram.

Most beautifull anime serie movie story watever I ever see!
Thank you for all the team that created this piece of art!!!
Man, this was an amazing psychological anime series. Taking responsibility in a fantasy surreal aspect.
Lil Slugger was an entity that was born from terrible n frightening thoughts by not only Tsukiko, but also tha victims n others who gossips. Tha more people feared him tha more stronger her became. Showin how powerful n frightening tha mind truly is
So was he real or just a metaphor?
@@randomdeadbydaylight3498 just an metaphor
And way use by people to escape and run from their responsibilities
Tsukiko = month, Stomach ache、menarche, dog, death, guilt, adult, denial, paranoia,
= she's pretty hot.
She's the only good looking person in the show
@MarieAntoinetteBestQueen in the end, yes Likes she's a different person now
I never understood what was all those numbers and symbols that the old master wrote but Maniwa seem to have found something, perhaps the repetition of the same disaster but with a stuff cat now, we humans sometimes tend to repeat our mistakes
I am sure it is true but I still don't understand how a prediction can be calculed
It just occurred to me that the reason she dropped the leash was a period cramp. Adulthood is what killed innocence. Ultimately this story is about the fact that life is cruel and hard to deal with, but that treating each other with love and mercy are one of the few things we can do to make life tolerable.
i was heavily invested into this series up until the point where they caught little slugger , all the anticipation just wasnt worth the dramatic build up , they caught him and started interrogated him and its a whole slew of constant ranting that defaced the story line from the original context ,after little slugger was finally caught the dynamics of the show shifted from being psychological thriller to a series of ranting that deviated from the overall theme of the show . little slugger messed up the series for me
@@javiermontaque683 the little slugger that they caught was a fake. You know that right?
@@k.g.7591
I stopped watching after they caught little slugger . little slugger was annoying and the constant shifts between his delusions and reality was starting to detract from the intrigue around the story line . so i stopped watching when little slugger was being interrogated
Thank you for uploading this beautifully dark demented anime. I swear it is the weirdest and most unique series I have ever seen. I'll be forever changed and demented because of it...:3
e chantra watch Serial Experiments Lain
***** Thankies! Always on the look out for a mind bending manga, so thanks alot!
e chantra Did you watch it yet?! Dude Serial Experiments Lain is THE most mind-fucking anime there is.
No, this better not be a loop. You can't do that to me ;A;
Wow. What an incredible show. Loved how the ending was not exactly a happy one either. Were hopeless.
@Crack Daniels
It's not exactly happy, but I don't know if I would say it's particularly a depressing end either? The running theme around the show was about accepting personal responsibility to me, so it looks like some of the characters grew as people, some of them didn't, and life continues on for them (by my interpretation though). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Pheonixtail Dragonlore good point! I don’t disagree
~ I cried openly on:
a) the detective's wife dieng {that was so fucking sad}
b) when the girl (Tsukiko) was holding her dead puppy in arms
anyone else?
A very old comment..
Practically from a different lifetime.
Personal affairs: Lil' slugger and Moromi are an allegory for this. They can drive the mind mad and lead to traumatic obsession.
SOOOOOOO???? Detective Maniwa was the old man??? WTF??? I need a Maromi doll to deal with the ending to this show....
A spot on the Internet where individuals have been enlightened on the usage of metaphors to exemplify how paranoia and deluding one's self is the enemy through media.
Thank you, WOWOW.
Now back to scenic YOLOville.
we need to have all the episodes in one playlist, so that I could like it
Thanks for uploading this!
"every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth" - Chernobyl
Thank you DetectiveManiwa for uploading this masterpiece
Great ending, this whole series was executed perfectly.
Speechless. I have to go and think about this. Wow....Loved it.
I just finished this and watched it on AS just a few minutes ago. One of the saddest but greatest anime endings I’ve ever seen. Beautiful show
although I am relatively new to anime, this is now one of the my favorite anime shows i haved watched.
Suddenly became Akira.
It's been a mysterious journey.
Farewell.
That was...amazing. Totally, completely, mind-blowingly amazing. I don't think I'll ever love another anime as much as I love this one.
So happy I finally watched this show, after wanting to watch in 2010, I completely forgot about it until 2 weeks ago when I saw it on MAL.
This entire anime is a life-changing story...

I'm so glad I was finally able to remember you Paranoia Agent, it's been years but it's still a good show
have anyone noticed how the lil slugger says WE MEET AGAIN at the end of the first episode to tsukiko ..and how he says GOODBYE at this episode ..its kinda cool
"the whole world is about to end because of a god damned puppy." The chief is my fav
Ikari And Maniwa were the best characters!!
Edit: And Misai :D
The most important message in this episode and the moral of the story is "that awareness makes us all to cowards and non-action is cowardice and ignorance".
You get to know that at minute 7:42, when she is floating in the water under the moon like Ophelia, the same act in which Hamlet speaks this quote in acquisition to Ophelia. (Shakespearses Hamlet)
This Anime is full of mindfucking metaphors.
The whole world is about to end because of a goddamn puppy
Even in supernatural form, maromi was a such loyal dog.....
the prophetic vision in this episode telling you to watch the show again in reverse order, so damn cool.
If you live your life in denial, it will eventually consume you.
After the episode Prophetic vision is something really deep
Thanks for uploading all of these, especially this last video in 720p HD
"World's gonna end cuz of a damn puppy!"

Thanks so much for uploading these. :) I saw this anime years ago when it was on Adult Swim but I never saw the whole series in the right order. Seeing it all really made me appreciate what an amazing anime this is.
Thank you so much for uploading these great anime episodes.
I thought that I imagined that puppy scene for YEARS.
I can't believe it's over.......
That was so amazing!! It all makes sense now, that's so awesome! I have to go back and watch it again
@crosser8
Lil' Slugger was the manifestation of a combination of the guilt, anxiety, and fear that Tsukiko felt after her dog was killed.
Shit, I really regret not watching this more intently when it was on Adult Swim.
Same but I was too young then
I like the comparison to the opening scene of episode one, and the closing scene of this episode. :) Really concludes the series.
All Tsukiko had to do was be honest, then everyone else wouldn't have latch onto lil' slugger to use him as a scapegoat to solve problems they would've otherwise, told the truth about.
What always leaves me stumped, was Maniwa... what was the answer!?
Such a great series! Detective Ikari and his wife are my favorite characters now! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
@Stephrosyne yeah, i was to young to grasp it when i first saw it so i really enjoyed watching them all again. I really appreciate the Detective here for posting them ;)

To be frank, I think Covid is a media caused version of Lil Slugger but on a more epic scale
