    Hi! Where are you from?

    Hello Mr. Anand. Is it mandatory or important to do a PhD to rise in field of medical writing? To be at senior positions?

    • @AnandDevasthanam
      @AnandDevasthanam  3 года назад +1

      When I initially started off in the medical writing field nearly 7 years ago, having a PhD was not a requirement to progress in the medical writing field. However, I have recently observed a trend where more job descriptions for senior medical writing roles are mentioning PhD as a 'nice to have' requirement but not necessarily a 'need to have' requirement. Therefore, I feel that a PhD would be beneficial but not essential to progress in medical writing. However, my response to your question is limited by the fact that I have worked as a medical writer in USA alone and not in any other country. Therefore, I would urge you to look into senior medical writing requirements in your specific geography and make an informed decision about the PhD. Happy to continue this conversation over LinkedIn. Please feel free to connect with me there. Hope this helps. All the best!

    Hi Anand, is it necessary to be a medical doctor or a researcher to get into medical writing?

    • @AnandDevasthanam
      @AnandDevasthanam  4 года назад

      Being a medical doctor is NOT a prerequisite for becoming a medical writer. One of the most interesting aspects about medical writing is that the field attracts people with very different academic and professional backgrounds.

      @@AnandDevasthanam Thank you very much Anand, for your quick response. Can you please suggest a good online course on Medical Writing/Scientific Writing? I am a Home maker from Bengaluru, India, with a Bachelors Degree in Biotechnology. I want to take up Medical Writing/ Scientific Writing as a profession.

      @@aparnakudur8892 A few courses to consider:
      (1) The Essentials Skills program offered by the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) and the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) are the most widely recognized in industry.
      (2) There is also a great health writing program offered by Health Writer Hub based in Australia, but the course can be taken from anywhere.
      (3) If you are interested in a freelance career, I strongly recommend doing some research on the course offered by Emma Hitt, who is a medical writing entrepreneur and thought leader in the freelance world.
      (4) If you are interested in breaking into medical writing using your background in biomedical sciences, we have a great program offered by the cheeky scientist organization. Google 'CSA MWO' for the details.
      (5) Here are some general courses on writing (not specific to medical writing):
      (5a) General:
      www.coursera.org/specializations/academic-english
      www.coursera.org/.../effective-business...

      (6) Here are two scientific storytelling courses that were brought to my attention by an aspiring medical writer and I'm happy to pass it along to you:
