Geology for gold diggers 104(a) - Hunting hydrological placer and alluvial gold
Tectonic placer and alluvial gold will erode (most-only) by hydrological forces. Freshwater sources as (cold water) artesians springs, springs, and watershed headwater creeks and streams will erode out small and large gold-bearing rock, and slowly or quickly move it downstream ... depending on the slope and water volume velocity surging forth. Freshwater sources will not dissolve (i.e. hot springs) heavy metals, iron black sands, and silicate quartz and quartzites, chalcedony, agate, etc into downstream particles and sands. Only the force of erosion will break off softer bedrock and hardrock around mother lodes, veins, and dikes, causing the breaking off of small (dust, flour, placer) to medium (pickers) to large (nuggets and masses) to flow downstream until captured behind a sand bank, bedrock crack, crevices, or joints. Using headwater knowledge, one locates such freshwater movement in the uplands where tectonic placer and alluvial gold will appear. Search for the bedrock and hardrock under the start of these headwaters for the highest source of deposit in the area. Work downstream, not upstream for tectonic placer and alluvial gold. As the landscape of mountain, mountain range, bedrock and hardrock changes into forest or highland meadows with organic topsoil, continue working down to the bedrock (and any sedimentary clay levels for embedded gold. The further you work down a freshwater source and find nothing, until you reach the flatlands or lowland meadows, forests, estuaries, delta land, that entire area becomes a not-here area. The faster you work the bedrock zone.
Whereas gardening you want high layers or organic matter, in prospecting you want the bottom bedrock layers. As such soil layers are - O horizon - topsoil litter/duff; A horizon - topsoil (zone of aeration); E horizon - zone of leaching; B horizon - subsoil (zone of saturation, water level up to E horizon); C horizon - parent material (broken bedrock and hardrock, boulders, rocks, stones, cobbles, pebbles; and bedrock strata. Prospecting wants to work the C horizon and bedrock. Glacial and greenstone placer gold could be anywhere from the C horizon up to E horizon (water level). Working a freshwater spring, creek, or stream downstream from bedrock to C horizon cobbles, provides placer and alluvial gold. Further down, and deep digging of very ancient A-E-B organic strata comes from ancient gold buried under ancient ages of organic and windblown loess, glacial till. As such, the depth of discovery of gold provides the starting elevation in which gold is being eroded out of the bedrock and parent material. That elevation is most- important - as that topographic elevation can then be surveyed around such tectonic mountain, and one could find the same elevation (of higher or lower) other gold outcroppings. The elevation, geological valley feature, inclined slope, and water volume and velocity will assist in locating further gold in that area. Looking in these areas for the first black sands, red garnets, silicate crystals, ... and the suspected gossan material will provide the start of deposited heavy metal sand and gold there and downstream.
Looking and watching the hydrology of current and potential ancient water streams that are different from the modern flow, will provide further upstream and downstream searches for the ancient depositional direction. Stand in the creek facing upstream. Notice the banks of the stream. Which is higher - the left or the right. At what clock position are sand banks, or oxbows located. Note that clock position as that direction of the miniscule higher elevation will be where the placer and alluvial gold came from, if the higher bedrock was clean of gold. Notice the lower elevation and mark its clock position of the ancient waterway direction. Notice also such stream bedrock and hardrock, intact basalt, andesite, ... granite, diorite. Intact igneous and magmatic rock (mafic basalt) and (felsic granite) has no intact silicate-bearing veins and gold. Basalt is quickly thrust up, small to no crystallization (a-phanetic, no crystals) showing on the surface. Granite is long-term underground, growing large crystals of felsic (potassium silicates, mica, and quartz. These crystallizations (phanetic) are large and have no intrusions in them. These quartz and quartzite crystals will erode into the hydrological cycle and provide opportunities for finding quartz and gold together, but only when quartz and gold vein are together. When intrusions and bandings of any rock-cracking material are located, they provide the hints that quartz and quartzite with gold could be found nearby.. The greatest origin of embedded mother lode gold, with silicate quartz and quartzite will be in those intrusions, bandings, veins, and dikes. You have now located the best source for tectonic and ancient hydrothermal (hot springs) dissolving gold and quartz in the hardrock. If there are no higher elevation tectonic intrusions, then no higher elevation of placer or alluvial gold will be found in that area. If there are no springs or creeks in that area (ancient or modern), then only the natural erosion of sun, heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, wind will have slower erosion, and greater placer gold downhill from the slopes and cliffs of the bedrock intrusions. Knowing your geology gives you every hint at what is - or is not - associated with gold-bearing rock, or hydrological placer or alluvial gold.

@@FlourgoldWizards what he said 🤔 ... I think.

Thanks for this brief geology lesson!
Cyber hugs for Rigby. New pup might help him heal. Good video today..thanks.❤
Hells him sleep for sure🥵 🤣🤣🐺✅
Went to Mexico in 1968 and drove thru a butterfly swarm! It was amazing and scary at 7 years old ! I remember the front and butterfly side were covered with dead butterflies as they flew accross the road and we drove thru them and the back and off side were clean !
The bug swarms get worse for about a month!!
@@FlourgoldWizards i live in san Diego California, we dont get weather like the rest of the country.
We have two seasons perfect and a little hot ! Lol
So we dont have natural water sources to propagate bug breeding !
And the monarch butterfly is more south near Mexico city, im 50 miles north of Mexican border !
Have fun w/ dog and gold , its fun watching .
Nice to see you were prepared to bring Ol Rigbone with you anyway. And like most bosses - got too hot with him hanging around your neck all morn-
He was placed in a tree to overlook the operation, nice. He seemed none too happy with the poke in the nose with a BOBOLINK, I'm sure you shared when back at the shop! Hey Rex, com'on boy let's go minnin'

I didn’t think Lake Superior was warm enough for an algae bloom like that. It’s probably for the better that Rigby wasn’t there for that trip. You wouldn’t want him drinking that.
It was actually tree pollen!

Well......hello Rex! Looking forward to you finding gold with Rigby!!
Its all he talks about….🤣🤣🤣
Great macro shot!!!!... That Macro shot shows how the Black Sands are like ball bearings,,,, where the Gold just Surfs on top of the rolling balls of black sands.. the heavy black rounds on a flat surface acts like a Shield... especially beach sands... That opened my eyes Flour Gold Wizard!!!👍
It opened my eyes too!
The beach is making you work for it this year. Keep up the good work
You ain’t kiddn !!!!
That yellow stuff is probably pollen, my cars are covered with it.

Great to meet the new apprentice! Nice day on the beach. A little tough to take a dip to cool off. Hope you brought some contents of the fridge of wonder with you!🍻😄
Always have one ! ✅🍻
I grew up in Canada and I loved our cottage on the lake. Nice catch!
Very cool!
Hello! Just a quick question for anyone that would like to chime in.
I used my digital microscope to photograph some of my Wisconsin gold and there is some very small silver colored nuggets mixed in. Would that be silver? Or white gold possibly? I wish i could post the picture on here. Its very neat being able to see this small gold up close to see the actual shapes and features of it!
I like getting close up to it as well! The silver stuff? Not sure 🤔
Looks like Rex really likes rigby, great addition to your family, 👍, its something, In the summer we wish for cooler weather, in the winter we wish gor warmer weather, can we get iT right. 🤣, awesome day on the beach getting au, 👍🐕🐕🐕🍺🍺🍺🍺⛏️⛏️⛏️⛏️🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺⚓️🇺🇲

Very cool Rigby sweat shirt. Now I will hve to get one for Niki. Great tip on settling the sluice rack. Great video my friend😎😎⛏⛏🔥🔥
Sry but I only had 2 made… Mrs Wizard owns the other one😃✌️😃✅✅
Those waders are good for one thing in the Wisconsin blazing summer. Walk out into the cold Superior and fill them to the brim - keeping all the PBRs (private boy's regions) cool and well-tended. When you get hot again - walk back out into deep water, dump the warm water - and refill with cold water - and maybe a perch or bass will get sucked into the waders - but gotta watch out for those toothy and onery pike and muskies - they bite !
I think i saw a swarm of smelt just past the pollen line !!
@@FlourgoldWizards Time to catch some smelt, lay out the fishing line - and catch some fish - and bring home the gold and dinner as well.

@@FlourgoldWizards yikes 😳 never seen anything like that
What’s the name of that new little puppy you have. I am watching RUclips shorts and miscellaneous videos and I see your video pop up and I’m thinking to myself. I’m hoping he went to the beach. I’d like to see what it looks like. And lo and behold you did go to the beach. If I wasn’t 13 hours away, I would be there every freaking weekend. Thanks for taking us all out on your adventure because some of us can’t get up there but maybe once every year or two. The last time I was up there I think I could’ve thrown a beach, towel down and just taken a long snooze on that beach, but I would wake up feeling like a piece of bacon, that sun sure does get hot up there.
