Hey guys I loved watching this! Thanks for visiting my homeland! Just a bit of a word up about amok- it won’t be found in markets as it’s considered quite an old-fashioned food (it has ancient origins and is today considered passe or poverty food). Plus it’s not a dessert! It is a formal dinner dish made with either river fish, snails or mushroom. Nowadays only upmarket restaurants serve the dish, usually not done authentically. Otherwise if you happen to get invited to a rural Cambodian family barbecue they might also have it steaming away! Good luck devouring guys!

Asher Ouk hi mate, thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to write. We have been eating fish amok like crazy hahaha we love it. The jackfruit amok we have never come across again- I have seen videos of people making it but perhaps it’s just something that’s done in the home? We love Cambodia- it is a real joy to film here. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series mate. Thanks for all the information 😄 Cheers, Sheena

Thank you so much for making these videos especially the ones in Battambang. It reminds me how much I miss my hometown and all of those Bai Sach Jrouk I had everyday after class. The best thing was having a class just right in front of those food setups. I didn’t have to get out of the classroom to get the food. I just bought them through the window which was amazing 😄. Also, I am longing to have those sour fruit again. I got supper drooled by watching you ate the young sour green mango. I don’t think tamarind is supposed to be bitter unless you chew on its seeds. Anyway, thanks again for visiting Cambodia and making these wonderful videos. Lots of love.

So fun seeing you two try a spot/food for the first time without knowing everything going on. *_Don't get me wrong, I greatly appreciate and enjoy_* when you film your videos after scouting a few times and give us all the details -- "they've been here since 1964; their rice is from cousins in a neighboring village; the grilling technique was invented by their grandfather..." -- but I absolutely love when you jump in cold (like meat and smoke alleys, Mexico) and we see your reactions. So pure. Even though the num jak chol didn't blow you away, it's interesting see you try it. Outstanding day. Love pretty much any video from a fresh market. 😀👍

Yea, imagine the kids in Cambodia having that for lunch. I grew up as a kid in Asia so I know how spoilt we were in terms of food no matter how 'everyday' or supposedly low in cost they were. I guess it's just cultural differences and the things we take 'pride' in. Food might be some countries' plus point but other aspects of the culture or the way the country is run might pale in comparison to those of other countries.

Aside from trying all the new and improved street food. Those vendors have become more adept and creative at cooking, it quite inspiring to be honest.
I think one day, I could invest in opening up a Khmer Sandwich shop. One thing I made was a spin on Chilli con Corne hotdogs, but instead of Chilli con corner, I used Prahok Ktiss and replaced the sausages with crispy veggies, grilled meat, cold Banh mi stuffing or using a big Spring roll as a substitute.

What you got at the end of this clip was a palm fruit rice cake with coconut milk on top/not jackfruit rice cake. I lived in that Battambang Province during the Killing Fields. I went there last year on December 26th-27th, just only for two days. I wished I could stay longer. I love street foods there. Next time, I will try eating rat meats!

Thanks so much for the info. We loved our time there. It’s a very special city. Cambodia has some very difficult history. It’s very sad to read about and to visit some of the sites while there. Thank you very much for watching this video. Cheers, Thomas

Sheena, you are supposed to spit out those tamarind seed. And BTW, it was the steam rice cake with coconut and jackfruit/palm fruit. Its a type of dessert. It's not called amok. Amok is rather a savory dish. First time watching Yr vdo. U both did a fantastic job. So lively and real. Keep it up!

🤣 I know, that seed was so bitter! And thanks for the info re the palm fruit cake. We were seeing lots of jackfruit ‘amok’ in home recipes which is why we thought it was this! So glad you enjoyed this video mate, hope you like the other content on our channel. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Sheena
