Okay, I get what you’re saying, but I like the adult aspects of Pathfinder personally. The spectrum from Nocticula to Shelyn, and Zon-Kuthon to Sarenrae or Asmodeus to Cayden Cailean are part of what make it so good. That said, I do really like this arc for Nocticula. Redemption arcs are a favorite of mine, especially when it’s a struggle against what’s perceived to be your nature.
It's so strange. But in my 32 years, I think this is the ONLY story of a Devil/Demon trying to ascend I have ever heard of. Man I'm glad I found Pathfinder!
eh , there are more in the dnd world at the very least. If u ever played planescape torment , there is fall from grace , which hilariously is another succubus. She is a lawful neutral cleric , that rejects her nature and is chaste.
I think their rarity is what lends these types of stories power. The fact that it's not impossible means that demons can change, and that they can more convincingly persuade mortals that they will change with enough sacrifice on the mortal's part

Basicaly art that would harm someone, may it be psychologicaly, or motivating others to cause someone harm for reasons out of their control. Edit: 19:13 I think another thing paizo tries to push back against is the idea that an extraplanar creature wouldn't be capable of changing, a concept and pattern that is a bit common within Golarion lore, Asmodeos used to be an Empyreal lord, same goes for some of his Archdevil minions, heck, to top it all off, the lord of the first, and one of Asmodeos's most loyal subjects, Barbatos, is literaly a demon. And then there is Basrakal, a city inhabited by outsiders that defy their original alignment. On one hand, it bring in some diversity, it depicts people changing, despite their one sided environment, and like you said, Nocticulas character arc was slow, and yet felt natural. On the other hand, I think that this kind of character arc can only occur so many times until it becomes repetetive, as of right now, it doesn't seem to be so common to the point where being an outsider rarely, if ever truly matters. When it does happen, it is treated as a big deal, and it doesn't happen out of nowhere, and many outsiders stil stay true to their origins, many demon lords stil persist being the disgusting and disturbing manifestations of sins that they are. So while I stil don't really like the trope if its getting overdone, I tink paizo is capable of further exploring this theme of changing against all odds, without it becoming repetetive. Now, that being said, I think that these themes of outsiders changing their alignment should stay more or less where it is at right now, at the divine. The following section contains spoilers for Hands of the devil, the second part of Abomination Vaults. The one thing that sticked with me the most during Abomination Vaults, was when Wrin brought in the argument that "Carman would be eternaly denied redemption for his deeds if he would go to heaven" Hell especialy always felt like a ticking time bomb, it was described in the lore that this place was specificaly designed to crush the spirit, and turn all of its inhabitants into obedient slaves of Asmodeos's will. Or in other words, once you go down there, its too late, you won't get out there, and the whips of the bearded devils will be the first and last thing you'll ever see every single day until the end of time. This concept of getting locked in there forever, and that you can't redeem yourself make for some great urgency and put a lot of weight on decisions and dilemnas related to sending a soul to hell, like in the AP. Making it possible to escape the abyss, hell, or even falling from heaven, like Asmodeos did, would, at least in my eyes, remove this gravity that the afterlife planes carry with them. You go to heaven, you're now eternaly rewarded for your loyalty to the forces of good You go to hell, you're now eternaly punished for your misdeeds You go to the Abyss, you now get to live out your most disturbing fantasies, something the material plane could never provide, The list goes on and on, but you get the point.
I agree that Noctiula's new symbol seems... strange. The hair and lips are what ruin it for me (especially the hair). If it were just the moon with the crown I think it would be a fantastic symbol.
I could see her devotees trying to redeem evil beings, and aiding said beings who seek redemption, probably some traditionally evil monsters who had a change of heart just as her.
I find the very concept of Nocticula being redeemed absolutely absurd. It’s not as if she has spent much (if any) time repenting for her sins. If Nocticula is to be redeemed, then she first needs to spend the better part of all eternity in either the rift of repose or as one of the islands of the midnight isles.
Regarding the conondrum of portrayal of sexualised characters in pf. While nocticulas clothing changing after her ascension makes sense, and said ascension being done relatively well instead of "she's good now outta nowhere". I dont exaclty like the general trend of loosing "the edge" that is kind of apparent in the big modern rpgs. In my head it makes sense that a creature whose pretty much whole.existance is based around being conventionaly attractive would try to be as conventionally aluring as possible. As such i have no issue with succubi running around in battle bikinis, or incubi in battle thongs, at least not any more as the fact that most ttrpg characters are just killers for hire. Ofc that applies mostly to the "true form" if a succubus or incubus is preying on socialites during weekly balls in the royal court, ofc they'd be wearing an appropriate glamour. I do understand the want to introduce your x yo daughter to the hobby, but it's rather obvious that adventures you(or whoever would do it) will run for children wont be as mature content filled as the ones ran for adults.
And my opinion on this has changed since this video. I embrace sexuality in the game, as long as it has a purpose and isn't just for a panty shot more or less. If the sexual aspect is part of the character or situation etc, then I am all for it, keep it real, but if it's just a, hey look at these large breasts kinda deal (like some modern comics and games), that's when Im a little bit over it if that makes sense.

I wonder if the “harmless art” part is to absolve her followers from guilt in regards to destroying weapons? As to those that create them, weaponsmithing may be their art form.
She seems to be a mix of Shelyn and Desna. I wouldn't be surprised if a certain popular other redeemed succubi becomes her acolyte or even her right-hand lady.
And her title as Redeemer rounds out the trio with Shelyn. Which is actually pretty interesting that she seems to be a mix of the three big good gods, since she is chaotic neutral herself.
Potential spoiler: In one of the possible endings of the Wrath of the Righteous CRPG she eventually becomes a servant of Desna if she's redeemed, working as a guardian angel of sorts who watches over others who try to redeem themselves.
Seeing as she is the goddess of artists and exiles, I would think that she is the patron goddess of those artists who are misunderstood or are persecuted for their works. Those whose art are some kind of criticism. For example a political commentator in a particularly harsh country, like Cheliax or Nex. Which also fits with her midnight domain, since most of that kind of art needs to done under the cover of darkness. Even in less good aligned countries, there would still messages who would be suppressed by their leaders. Such places would still have graffiti artists painting messages during the night, bards singing unflattering songs about their leaders and gods. Another important role would be for those who break out of their own societies and wants to join another. Think normally evil aligned monsters or just those species generally viewed with distrust. Like Goblins, Orcs, tieflings, fleshwarps, and anything coming out of the darklands. I imagine Nocticula, as a former demon lord, welcome those people with open arms.
Oh man I love the idea of a rebel throwing up a prayer to nocticula as he paints his latest graffiti on the side of a building. Thats very cool take on a character concept to be honest!
I love this idea for the rebellious within Cheliax and other places of similar oppression. My Cheliax will definitely have Nocticula's name spoken in the shadows beneath artfully extravagant graffiti
A curious thought. Midnight is one of Zon-Kuthon's areas of interest. And Shelyn has long sought a way to cure / REDEEM her brother. Might she, the art goddess, have a hand in with the Redeemer Queen.

Noticulus redemption arc is one of the problems with Starfinder. While it's this amazing new development in Pathfinder that sort of shakes the foundational understanding of what outsiders are, in SF it's not there. Nocticula appears in only one reference in starfinder in which she's stated to be a chaotic evil demon Lord along with several of her old associates, instead of having her full on deific portfolio and new chaotic neutral alignment.
Oh no, she relapses in the future! To be serious though, I never thought about that. It would be difficult to do a big world shake up with starfinder around. If you add it to starfinder before it hits pathfinder, it spoils it, but if you don't add it at all, now the lore doesn't match up.
@@Balevolt , Or... it's two different teams... and Starfinder's team wasn't aware of the impending change to Nocticula, until it was a bit too late to undo it... so they simply went *shrug* ... Does it really impact anything?
A bit late to the party, but I'm reading it as two different incarnations of Nocticula. Like how Zon-Kuthon is somehow the previous incarnation of Shelyn's brother. And how it is whispered that gods that 'ascended' like Cayden Calien were incarnations of gods in the first place even if they themselves do not know of it.
YES! :OGLALA!-SCORPIO ARTIST. A DEMON CAN BE REDEEMED. JIHAD IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK./ AND IS NEITHER EVIL NOR Corupt.vice. JUST VIOLENT, NOT EVIL. ACTUALY IS SIMPLE AS THAT .
I think she's trying to push herself to be good... but to go from CE to CG is just a too big of a leap... so she's taking baby steps... just like any other mortal who goes from murderous tyrant to all welcoming/forgiving person. Her holy symbol is a smiling moon with a crown... it's meant to be weird. She did it herself without any training or advice by Shelyn! However, you missed one big thing, she does have a place of worship. Her temples are in New Thassilon with her most powerful public worshiper; former Rune Lord of Lust, the co-ruler of New Thassilon. I understand why some art needs to be destroyed... ever heard of *checks books* propaganda posters? Furthermore, art can be used to destroy people. As a Redeemer Queen, allowing her followers to destroy people through art contradicts her long term goals of removing harm from the world... removing evil.
@@TimoBreunig , Art that harms isn't the same as art that is disturbing... one can learn from the later, but the former is just cruelty. As a former Demon, she thrived on cruelty... that's why I believe she's attempting to be good... to redeem herself and all other people. Keep in mind, Serenrae wants evil to be redeemed... and NG Champions are called Redeemers. Perhaps I am reading too much into the words/titles. *Shrugs* Have a good day!
I also appreciate the change to more inclusivity. As a woman it is hard sometimes to relate to the old material because it focuses so much on a male perspective, not only but also in the art. I remember reading the pathfinder GM guide and the examples for different forms of government. Their only examples for a matriarchy were man hating Amazons that enslave and grape men. Like wtf? Thats the only society you can imagine when there is a change of dynamics? Or even the first that you suggest to me for my own "interesting" worldbuilding? How could I be comfortable with this in any way?
Tbh only real difference between patriarchal and matriarchal society is who's socially on top. You can have a cardboard copy of let's say holy roman empire plopped into your world, swap gender roles and voila matriarchal society. Be it women being better spellcasters in that specific species/race and thus being able to tell the men "no you make me a sandwich", or because religion puts women on the higher social standing than a man. For example warcraft's nightelves are ruled by a matriarchal theocracy with strong gender roles. Men are druids, who due to their powers enter essentially hibernation to do stuff in a different plane. Which means that it fell onto women to be the majority of warriors. Their faith also reinforces women as being the higher in society through the fact they are monotheistic and their deity is a woman. Using the logic given by the lore "who better to understand the wishes of a woman if not a woman" thus their priesthood is female only. With both the spiritual and temporal powers being in women's hands it is rather obvious that the society would become matriarchal. (Ofc for the sake of the gameplay in wow females can be druids and males can be priests, and there was some lore made to justify that shift, but nonetheless their leader for the past 10thousand years and to this day is the High Priestess.)
I do think that paizo and certain other companies TTRPG or otherwise have pushed against some of the darker or more adult aspects of hobbies more then they should like didn't paizo throw out a campaign just because slavery was a topic even though a goal of that campaign from my understanding was to free slaves. Among various other examples where companies treat even adult consumers like children or self censor to please a minority of people who likely don't have true interest in the hobbies just like bullying those that do
Adventure path 144 page 78 answers some of the questions you had. Had to downvote your vid for "family friendly" take on pathfinder. 🤢🤮 Sex positivity and positive sexual depictions in game are like milk chocolate chips in a cookie. Since you have your child, you can't have chocolate chips in your cookies, and that's okay. If you are accurate, and this is the only course from Paizo; taking away all the chips from all cookies... becomes is bad for me, who has no aversion to delicious chocolate chips. What I hope happens is they make a disclaimer to allow some "cookies" for those who want bigger chocolate chunks in addition to chips. Maybe with a disclaimer on some products to allow for you or I to make better purchases. Another option would be to go "family friendly" for the main line, and release a book (or three) that allows me to bring all the flavor back in that was not included.
And that's okay! That's the great thing about pathfinder, you can run it how you want. For my group of adult friends, and my kids, having a half naked demoness doesn't add anything to the game, and they instead redeemed her into a Goddess of outcasts and I think that's a much more interesting story thread. I totally get that not everyone feels that way, and honestly it would be pretty boring if everyone shared the same opinions.
And as for adventure path 144, that's one of the few I don't own in pdf form yet! I don't have any of tyrants grasp lol do you know which questions it answers?

@@SirVertigo Redeemed goddess of outcasts is interesting, but it doesn't have to be one or the other. She can still be naked, it doesn't take away from the game. One could argue in good faith that a succubus is an ancient and hugely negative reflection of sex (especially female) as a evil seductress that drains men of their souls. Her alignment turn while keeping a leg "behind the curtain" as a sex positive symbol is way more important her previous evil arc, and to the depiction of female empowerment in general. You are doing your part as a responsible father. Good on you. I support your actions as good ones for your family and wish more parents were as involved in the development of their children. You also have a RUclips channel that pushes your opinion across a broad range of ears including influential ones. Since I will never make a RUclips channel, the only recourse is to thumbs down, make a quick statement and be on my way. My statement is in no way a negative strike against you or your opinion.

AND IS NEITHER EVIL NOR Corupt.vice.
Hi, this could be. But i think she will stay neutral - it better fits the artist theme, where art can be apreciated even if it disturbes you.
@@TimoBreunig ,
Art that harms isn't the same as art that is disturbing... one can learn from the later, but the former is just cruelty.
*Shrugs*
Have a good day!
@@aralornwolf3140 Interesting thoughts, have a good day!
C'est Athena en fait.
I only do first edition. No new stuff.
Well Nocticulas conversion to a goddess actually happened in the Tyrant's Grasp book, so her 2e story hasn't started yet!
Can we get dark elf lore 😊
I will add it to my list! I'm going to have a elf video out soon, and I'll hit drow soon after them.
Former onlyfans model the pathfinder character.
I hate the Paizo changes. Fantasy has always had nudity.
There are still tons of Succubi/Inccubi if you want to look at them...
I do think that paizo and certain other companies TTRPG or otherwise have pushed against some of the darker or more adult aspects of hobbies more then they should like didn't paizo throw out a campaign just because slavery was a topic even though a goal of that campaign from my understanding was to free slaves.
Among various other examples where companies treat even adult consumers like children or self censor to please a minority of people who likely don't have true interest in the hobbies just like bullying those that do
@dragonlord498 yes. They love Bidden
Yet another sad example of catering to the woke mob.
Adventure path 144 page 78 answers some of the questions you had.
Had to downvote your vid for "family friendly" take on pathfinder. 🤢🤮
Sex positivity and positive sexual depictions in game are like milk chocolate chips in a cookie.
@@SirVertigo I will get those answers to you immediately
@@Avalanche616 no rush, I do my best to check every source I have access to, but some of the later adventure paths are ones that I do not have access to at the moment.
