I try. It's not always feasible because people have started looking up things online and want a kidney for them - even in bad condition. Not sure about you but I like having kidneys. I've done a few no brand mcm pieces too. Each piece offers a unique challenge, but I do enjoy the high quality pieces. Usually a lot less broken than the mid to lower pieces. Hope you enjoyed the video!
There's no issue with matching color with your 4 legged kiddos! I consider it a great idea!!! Natural colors and tones are the best, oftentimes. I super appreciate that you returned this dresser to its original glory, probably even better than before!!! I'd proudly own that, for sure!
I love this restoration! I have this exact piece, it's matching head and foot boards, and matching Gentleman's chest. They were my parents's bedroom set purchased new in 1968.
I didn't even think about their being a matching bed set, and just went to look it up. I am not disappointed! They could match basically anything. I bet your set looks stunning! ❤ These are such solid pieces.
We also have this piece, the gentleman's dresser, and a nightstand. We had the headboard, but it was coming apart and ended up at the dump. Our piece like this has a 3-way vanity mirror. Unfortunately, the doors are missing altogether.
@@ReconstructingEmily Hey Emily, im starting a RUclips channel like yours. im a furniture artist. i have a very nice camera but not sure what to do about editing videos. any suggestions?
@@jodilynn4347 There's a lot of options out there. I use power director. Others use a variety of programs like Adobe Premier Pro. There are editing programs for Apple. Before you get any program check out which one looks easiest to figure out and watch videos on it. I find everyone's work flow and thought process is different so some programs work better for others. ThinkMedia , VidIQ, and FilmBooth are some of the other channels I watch to get better. They have some starting yt videos as well. Hope this helps!
Recommendation for your profile came through and it looked interesting. I found myself binge watching your videos. I can listen to your voice forever, so calming. You are set apart from the crowd for sure as you actually know how to interact with wood, and one can learn along. Much appreciated. You have made a fantastic job on the dresser. Bring the wood back is here, wood nouveau!
Thank you! Still so much to learn, know, and try but I make an effort to continue to grow. Bringing people along with me has brought me a lot of joy. Even when I make mistakes 🙂
I’ve often wondered about the price differential between painting and restoration. I’d really rather restore these higher end pieces than paint them and I’m glad you restored this one, it looks great. I don’t think I’ll color match my cats, they have too much orange in them.
It really all depends whats trendy and your area. Mid century in my area is very popular. There are several resellers that don't restore, just sell as is, and still sell alot. I know of 5 from just watching Facebook market place. I know some people have great success with painting everything and distressing. Where I grew up a lot of people might think the handles are ugly. Contrasting that, there are atleast two East Lake dressers for sale in my area and the highest one was at $150. Sorry for the dissertation lol. It doesn't match my orange fluffy kitty either. He will just hide under it anyway and pretend nobody can see him 😀
Beautiful restoration! I commented on another RUclipsr who restored a piece that was covered in paint that “all that paint protected that beautiful wood underneath”…
I love your videos Emily. They are so relaxing and satisfying to watch. This was beautifully restored. Your finishes are always so buttery smooth. Job well done!
Thank you Gail! Its the curves and the handles. When I bought my dresser for my bedroom, I didn't even look it up. I snagged the tag off the dresser and loaded it in the car. Looked it up later and was moderately shocked. The good kind of shocked of course 🙂
For sure! I think it was Steve Ramsey who made the point that we paint our houses to protect them. When I think about my kids being younger drawing on furniture, paint probably would have helped keep some things from being wrecked. Thank you Emer! 😊
@@ReconstructingEmily Absolutely. That's why when people give off about furniture being painted I'm thinking, "maybe they also have a cat that would be better scratching layers of paint than deep gouges in wood!"
Awesome dresser I would definitely getting it myself it would be awesome if you could find a person they needed a dresser like that to be a vanity but that's just if you were able too. Nice picture found in the dresser. I love the walnut stain.
Really nice job...you revived it!! I'm beginning to like just leaving the piece in its original wood rather than painting it...love the stain you used, imo its the best stain on the market. Good job...you are an artist!!
I think it's interesting that I am having the same shift. One of the things that did it for me was removing tinted lacquer finishes that cloud the actual wood underneath. Some pieces I am just in awe at what was hiding under it. I am a huge fan of general finushes gel stain. First time I used it was last year and I questioned every project before that that I had stained. Thank you for your wonderful comment 😊
I am so happy to see people RESTORING vintage furniture these days 😭
I enjoy it! I don't always restore but it is incredibly satisfying to do! ❤
I can in some cases see painting furniture, however I’m so thankful you restored this beauty and no paint. Great job! 👍🏻
Agreed! Thank you Tiffany!❤
So nice to see a painted piece stripped and redone to show the original glory of the wood.
I’m glad you found this piece before someone painted it again...........bless you
Okay, that push latch was such a great idea. You're a genius amongst us!
Hah! Thank you 😊
Finally, someone that restores mid century modern on RUclips is doing a piece that is actually a quality piece.

Aww Thank you for this amazing comment!! Natural tones are so good! ❤
I love the way you explain things. Very informative, with a wry little touch of humor. Thanks for rescuing this beauty.
I always think of old daytime game shows when I hear Broyhill. This restoration made me smile.

There is nothing more satisfying than watching you restore this painted pieces to former glory
I loved working on this one! The handles are everything!
What a great job! I actually remember pieces like this, and they are classic. So glad that you restored it to its former glory! 🙂👍
Thank you Holly! 😊
Broyhill always has great 'bones'. First Class improvement
My only complaint is I wish they used better tags!! Though its allowed me to find two, so I guess thats a plus!
Oh Emily! You saved it! It looks beautiful and I’m in love with those lamps at the end.
Thank you! They are Gruvwood lamps. Bought them locally off Facebook marketplace.
Wow. This is an amazing restoration. Emily you are so talented. Thanks for the puppy love. 💕🖖🏽🌈

Great job miss furniture archeologists !
As a kid I always loved the idea of being an archeologists. Have to live out those childhood dreams somehow! ❤
Oh! Wow! So so so beautiful and stunning!

Stunning piece. It just shows that painting furniture isn't always the answer. Love the wood colour.
Research! It's the answer!! Thank you Silke!
Absolutely stunning and I know that taking the paint off is not easy but so worth it
Thank you T J!
Good choice on just staining instead of painting! Gorgeous MCM dresser!!
Beautiful! So wonderful to see the natural wood. I am not a fan of paint. Especially on wonderful hardwood. You are a gem.
Great job on bringing this back to its original glory!💗

When you put the plugs in the wood, remove the excess with a sharp chisel first, then sand. This is quicker and gives a better finish
