- In this video we test out the Reno Air Racing Expansion Pack. What do we get for US$20? I do a Time Trial and then pit my flying skills against live opponents in both 2D and then VR. What an exhilarating experience when in a Virtual Reality Headset! Real immersion.

VR brings a three dimensional aspect to the Reno experience ….increasing the immersion of speed, movement and competition. Recommended.
did you get rid of that annoying HUD tho...
6:20 PSA: the first guy (tetsuo, currently place 2 worldwide) is so fast, because there are a lot of "hidden knowledge" items in the Reno Race pack, unfortunately. Assign the "best mixture" button, which in normal sim starves the engine but in racing gives more speed and adjust the RPMs otherwise you will not be competative. The T6 version does not matter in the race, but settings do. I am the guy in the last race, that is why I was so far ahead. See you in the races!

@@SimHangerFS Thanks. But in this case there really is just a knowledge gap: At around 2100 RPM in the T6 class and 3300 RPM in the unlimited class there are sweetspots making significant differences in the times. Spreading that knowledge keeps races fair.

Ooops, Sorry for cutting you up in the race! Literally no idea I did that! The secret for getting better times is setting the prop back a little and setting mixture to correct density altitude. @captMatto

Brilliant and informative video as usual Mark. As I fly on the xbox S and am only interested in MSFS I no longer have the game pass so guess there's no point in my getting Reno as no AI. Similarly I don't think VR is yet available in xbox 😒

@@SimHangerFS absolutely not, I'm a terrible pilot I'm sure. Just got lucky! I tried flying the L-39 next. All those hours in DCS must count for something. Well, apparently not!

Great vid. A couple of questions please. Are the aircraft you acquire (you mentioned four) pre chosen and added directly to the "chose an Aircraft" so that these can be used to fly around other than at Reno?
Yes they are
I would love to buy Microsoft Flight Simulator, but I'm not sure I'm a good candidate for the game:
* no actual flight experience
* don't know why I would *want* to fly
* does the game include the entire Earth on a 1:1 scale?
* are there leagues of some sort that I could compete in, or teams I could be a part of?
* air racing is very appealing to me, I remember watching it on TV many years ago, I would prefer courses that had right AND left turns
* dog fighting over very large maps would be interesting to me, too

Great video! You can move the "game menu" in the same way as you do in the normal cockpit. I believe you can also opt for it not to show.
Everyone is on an even footing with performance in the race. Using the aircraft outside the race reflects the performance for the aircraft.

Iv got to full Reno pack, Im yet to try it tho as i fly in VR only and that Hud in your center view is putting me off, Until they sort it

I'm unable to play in vr since the last update. Toolbar doesn't work and atc window is stuck in the middle of the screen

Too expensive for what it is. 4 new planes and the race format gets boring after a small number of multiplayer races. Fun at first but loses it's appeal very quickly. How anybody can think any different defies me.
It is too expensive, but I still bought it because I like the idea of slight modifications of the same airplane, and as far as the aerobatics goes - both the Pitts pack and the Texans pack are very nice. Furthermore, the Texans remind me of the A2A Texan in their behavior.
I have yet to try the races themselves, but just flying these things was already pretty darn fun. Sure, wish they were study level, but then the prices would be in a completely different league...
In my opinion, only the L-39 pack is rather uninspiring. But this is probably not the best type of a flight model for the jets anyway (at least as far as the built-in FM goes)
This is one activity I just can't get into...cant see it.
