Today I decided to take out the new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, and take it on a ride through the beautiful British countryside, through Rutland and into Leicestershire, where I visited the cafe at Launde Abbey. This abbey dates back to as early as 1119! It has some truly incredible history.
Here I have a look around, and stop for a cake and a hot drink, and meet some interesting people who reacted to the motorcycle.

US viewer here. I do like this style of video which includes an interesting turn around place in the English countryside as well as your bike impressions. Thanks for taking the time for a walk around the old buildings.
Thank you, great to hear 👍🏼
I love this natural countryside exploration with the bike. Please do more like this! The history and interactions with other humans is very special! :)
Thank you 😊
One of the things that I love when riding is the smell of the countryside, you don't get it in a car.
The Continental works so well in these settings😍
It fits right in doesn’t it 😁 we must do a collab this summer!
Haha, just posted these guys and you are on another level and got me into this hobby then see this - Z650rs was your fault and Monkey theirs. Between the 2 of you I’m skint😂😂love to see a collaboration btw
Getting better and better at this all the time. Nice relaxed presentation, well done 👍
Many thanks 😊
Speaking of birds, I was out on the Enfield at dusk on Saturday, and a barn owl flew alongside me for quite a while. No more than 12-15 feet away hunting along a lane, seemingly unbothered by the bike. We have tawny owls, but I've never seen a barn owl before locally. The next night I saw a young deer on a quiet lane ahead. I slowed down trying not to spook it, and it eventually cleared a stone wall into the garden of a large house. Amazing what you see on a bike, especially a dawn and sunset.
Yes you see and feel more being on a motorbike 👍🏼
Cinderella on RE. 🔥
@@dawn_alex Makes up for the reversing vans, pull outs, lane changing without indicating, and neglect of mirrors by the rest of the animal kingdom.
To get rid of the dust shake it hard use a blower on the jacket then pressure wash it. Sounds odd but worked for me when I went to india in a 1989 bullet. Beautiful machine
Thanks for the advice!
I do enjoy your interaction with passers by. And the wildlife. I think that was a robin that you conversed with. As I would have done.
It’s definitely a Chaffinch
Any video involving a Royal Enfield and a day out, it's going to be a hit. There is just something about the brand that entertains us. I doubt you would have the same viewership with a BMW or alike.
Very enjoyable video.
No reviewer has captured what normal people think and their warm reactions..Every reviewer gives their reactions based on their mood , knowledge and how good their stomach feels at that moment of review . But this is special.
I like the vibes, so just for that gonna sub.
Welcome aboard!
Got an interceptor a couple of months ago. Its the 2021 chrome and black version. The amount people who wanna talk to me about the bike is amazing. Even other bikers. Its a conversation starter for sure.
Use simple no flavour vodka , mix it with water and spray it on jacket.then clean it with tissues...it will clean the dust and remove smell as well
Thanks for the tip!
Im a US viewer and also really enjoy videos that do explain the history of the places you visit and ride to
I’ll try and incorporate more of that
Motorcycles are the best way to make friends.. even with the wildlife! So good for your mental health.. 👍🏻
Totally!
Films from some interesting places near your area are my favourite. Similar to that programs where someone is cooking outside 😄
But there is one bike i couldn't find on your channel - moto guzzi v9 roamer. Will you take it for a ride in the nearest future? I am thinking about this or about shotgun 650 to buy.
Glad you enjoyed! Unfortunately Moto Guzzi don’t have any V9 models on their fleet :( we are hoping to try one from a dealer at some point
Regarding the dusty jacket, hang it up outside, jetwash it at a distance and on soft setting, repeat for other side then hang in airing cupboard 👍🏻
I love the more chilled lifestyle videos. It is what riding in the British countryside is all about for me. I would love to see a few more like this.
Thank you 😊
I love the styling of the Continental and like the original feel but my old creaky arthritic wrists and shoulders complained after 50 or so miles. So I fitted bar risers from CooperB motorcycles, they're quite subtle and don't spoil the looks ...but are a little faff to fit. However they transform the ride and save a lot of wrist, shoulder and neck ache.
Your videos are therapy. It inspired me to buy a royal Enfield bullet 350. Thanks
Great to hear 👍🏼👍🏼
Damn! My first international video for indian motorbike. It's so beautiful, the colour is so 🔥💯
As mentioned before I do have one, the more you ride it the better and more comfortable it becomes. I've actually dropped the cilpons down by about a good inch now with no problems to my back, I'm a good 6 feet tall 🙂
I love it when you and your dad do videos like this, exploring the English countryside and historical places I will almost certainly never get an opportunity to see otherwise. It never ceases to amaze me just how much filthy rich history you folks have at your disposal. I mean, it’s just an 864 year old abbey that once belonged to Thomas Cromwell. That’s all.
Thank you! It really is crazy to think sometimes. We definitely take it for granted in this country, so lucky to have something like that 20 minutes drive from me
Come to Holland one day and enjoy
I’ve been to Holland a few times, not on a bike yet though!
Estuve a punto de vender mi Continental 650, pero después de esta serie de vídeos, que me han llegado al corazón, me quedo con ella. Thanks
Wow, increíble de escuchar 👍🏼👍🏼
That was a very pleasant aimless bimble of a video.
Yes this bike is great for that 👍🏼
Hello I’m Japanese viewer and I ride motoguzzi V7. I love the motorcycles you review and beautiful British countryside.
Awesome, thank you! I’m travelling to Japan later this year 😁
I'm currently in lanzarote it's 24 degrees, the sea is blue & quite warm, I have a cold beer in front of me, and my wife has finally stopped asking me about volcanos & all I can think of is perfection would be riding around on these perfect roads on a RE continental.
Now that sounds like heaven!
You guys and Freddie Dobbs are on a different level and are to blame for me getting into this hobby😂this time last year never ridden a bike now have Z650rs and a little Monkey😍
Awesome to hear, thank you 😊
Awesome video Mr Darcy, think you will be back to that cafe, the little bird was so cute and friendly 👍🏼
Fantastic video. A road trip like the NC 500 in Scotland, with the Ol man would be good !
Loving what this content is evolving to. I wasn't a fan initially but Loving the content as of late and the fact that you actually respond to comments. Hoping my channel builds this type of community some day. You're inspiring me.
Thanks so much, really glad you’re enjoying it now. I’m sure you will build a community, just stay consistent 🙌🏻
Great video, thank you. Reminded me why i love Britain so much.
That was a nice trip out! More like this please!
Thanks for the great video. It always amazes me when I see very old buildings, in this case over 1000 years old, and learning the history behind them. Growing up in Canada, it is rare to find buildings that are even 200 years old. I’ve visited England several times and have always enjoyed my times there. BTW, I am a big Royal Enfield fan. Cheers and ride safe. Dan ✌️🏍🇨🇦
Birds! Don’t talk to me about bloody birds!
Left my burger unattended for 20 seconds at Whipps Cross “Log Cabin” tea hut and about 50 crows appeared from nowhere and made off with it. Bastards.
The English way... in Oz... to clean the jacket... hand wash it in the bath tub. Rinse and repeat. Hang it out in the sun... pretty simple..
Yet again what a fantastic video, and such a gracious young man, always has time to chat with people
Thank you so much 😊
that almost looks like where they filmed X Men First class
I'd love to see you review the W800. Maybe a head to head with one of the RE's?
ah yes please!
That would be great to see.
love from india😍
😊
Try high pressure waterspray like at a carwash, but keep a little more distance 🙂 After washing you will need some waterresitance spray.
Here in the U.S. we have little out of the way spots like the one you visited, just not the ancient historical ties. Love your videos and well wishes to your dad...
Thank you 😊
One might argue that the vast majority of the USA is a little out of the way spot 🤣
Video ambience is awesome..... Perfectly match with Morden Retro machine like this 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love these laid back moto vlog style videos, hopefully they're performing well for you so that you do them more often. Ride safe sir
Glad you like them! This one is doing okay, I think we can gradually introduce them so that we can do them more often!
Great video. Extremely watchable. 👏
Pleased you enjoyed it 👍🏼
Is that jacket wax cotton or something? Yes, you will affect it's waterproofing with washing, but if you leave it dirty, the fabric will fray out and break down quickly.. Handwashing is a thing we used to do before automatic washing machines, you can still get pure soap (the stuff with the baby on it, no, not the chemical stew from the supermarket, the gentle stuff for handwashing woollens etc. from your local independent ironmongers. Alternatively, Ecover do a bottle of 17 wash stuff which isn't too strong.. ..and you can use a small amount of it. In any case, if it says "bleaches, surfactant's, enzymes, that kind of thing, beware).. Anyhoo, if you use a tub to carry your washing (we call them wet suit tubs) 👍 Or don't forget you have a bath, that's a great place for washing stuff out in, 'great for rinsing too.. (And I hope you only ever use liquid rather than flakes in your washing machine, or you'll gain experience of handwashing yet..). Obviously, re-wax, or whatever..
You do realise those clip ons on are upside down don't you? (Love the Continental. like yourself, 'prefer the Interceptor between the two, but if I had one, I certainly would not feel hard done by, despite the more prone riding stance.. ..and yes, those clip ons *are* upside down.)
Did you manage to get the number of the Gentleman with the C-15 for sale?
And that's a male Chaffinch incidentally.
Your videos are great! Very enchanting and infectious.
Thank you 😊
My autocorrect changed my last adjective. I meant to say "informative," not "infectious "!!!!
Infectious could be good too haha 😁
Excellent video format 👍
Glad you liked it!
That's a beautiful looking RE. The fact that you've got it on loan foc, but haven't ridden it much because it's not very comfortable, says it all really!
If it was the interceptor I’d ride it a lot more! Got a long ish journey on it next week
Your story telling skills & film making instincts have reached a new plateau, very impressive "small" film, just loved the balance of less is more throughout. Well done!
Have someone hose that jacket down while you're wearing it.
Henry VIII & Cromwell, the match not made in Heaven. Cool bit of history as well, thank you!
Thanks so much! And thanks for the advice
Quite nice interlacing a bit of history with the video,
It keeps looking at me. Haha ha😂laugh out loud
Love from India
You are lucky to live in the countryside. I love nature. Nice Video.👍
Thank you very much! I love being in the countryside 😊
Enjoyed the video, kind of imagining the cake, bet it was amazing. I had a CBR650R but now for a Fireblade. Id be keen to see a review of some BMWs as I don’t get what the fuss is about. Interested in the R12 though but not the GS.
Lovely, just lovely 👍
I too love the old architecture of the old 1800's buildings. Finding places like this is harder to find in the US. Fast food everthing. Easier to have a hot chocolate and cake at home and then enjoy a ride. Your little bird came back for some crumbs. Must be " quality". Lol. 👍👍5🏍🙋♂️
Thank you 😊
I enjoyed the slower pace of this one! Would like to see more of these.
That was a nice bit of Trivia about Thomas Cromwell. I’m currently reading one of the Shardlake books by C J Sansom. Cromwell is an important figure in the books.. well, early on in the series.. I really recommend giving them a read if you’re interested in history, they’re just brilliant. Dissolution is the first in the series.
I’ve just had a great idea of something you could do.. have you ever thought about going to Clouds Hill in Dorset? The home of T E Lawrence, who was a big motorbike enthusiast. Would be a great route to film, you could even recreate a few shots from Lawrence of Arabia, then show us the inside of his home. That would be incredible. Maybe you’re aware of him already but if not- here’s your homework😂
Are you planing on getting a shotgun as a long term loner ,it would be good to see a longer review on the Royal Enfield Shotgun 👍
Definitely will do soon
Got the bike here In India. It's just awsome. Loved, your content I binge watched a dozen of your videos this sunday😅.
Glad you like them!
That was really pleasing to watch. I think you have a very good formula for mixing the bike content with other interesting information.
It's a pity that the Continental Gt 650 is so uncomfortable because I think it's the best looking Royal Enfield.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes it’s a shame, that’s why I prefer the interceptor.
I have the Royal Enfield Continental GT650 in Rocker Red. I do not.find it uncomfortable. In fact, I find it more comfortable than the Interceptor. On the Interceptor, I could not get my size 10 boot under the gear lever. I also prefer the dual seat of the Continental GT650 to the strange too soft seat of the Interceptor. I am 5' 10".
You asked for video ideas, I think a few people would like to see you both on a tour of some kind. Doesn`t need to be epic or weeks long, just a change of scene. As much for us as you.
Wonderful you guys. Not a mars bar guy or a hot chocolate guy, but, the bike looks great and sorry you don't like the Cafe stance. It's a 2 hour and take a break motorcycle. Perfect for a day out! 😊
I still prefer the looks of Interceptor over the Continental GT , I see a lot of Interceptors out on the roads but don't think I've ever seen a Continental GT out and about. Liked the cafe you visited, the hot chocolate looked amazing so will add it the list of places to stop, interesting choice for your background music in this vid, it reminded me of 70s TV shows like the Sweeney (ask the Ol Man)
Britain is beautiful man, i really love it, will definitely visit one day
You should!
You can soak the jacket in the bathtub for maybe an hour. Refill with clean water 2-3 times and it is ready for the washing machine.
we would like to see more of these kinda videos!
Great to hear
RE 🇮🇳🇬🇧🙂🙌
This is my dream motorbike maybe I will take after 2 years❤❤ love from India🇮🇳
You can do it! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
7:02 Cute bird😍8:49 It comes again..Looking at the RE GT 650 I fall in love all over again...10:20 ya it has beautiful architecture ... advance birthday wishes bro
Thanks very much! It’s so cute isn’t it
@@MrDarcy-OlMan You are welcome bro! Ya it is
Mr. Darcy really liked this video. Quick question what helmet do you use?
Thank you! It’s a Ruroc Atlas 4
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Thank you!
It's my birthday today so I've subscribed as it's your birthday within a month.
Thanks very much, Happy birthday to you! 😊
Awesome..
The GT is a smart looking scoot but I agree with your comfort assessment and would rather have the Interceptor. A beautiful Abby and the lands surrounding it as well. I have been looking at used Tri Glides because of my physical problems but really would miss being on two wheels...Dammit! We shall see but be assured I shall continue to watch and enjoy your videos as they are informative and quite relaxing.
Please greet your father for me and I hope his wife (your mum?) is also doing well and perhaps even has her motorcycle license now.
SS
Thanks very much! Tri glides are still very cool 😎 they are both very well thanks, Ol’Man will be back very soon. She gave up on the idea im afraid, had a little tumble on her CBT and it put her off
I am confused between interceptor and continental which one best for riding ..please give us suggestion..
I would say the Interceptor, it’s much more comfortable!
I DO love the history of old Europe and the UK in particular. I wish we over here in the US , had historic places that old. If the politics ever straiten out over there I would like to return someday.
Well, you are cousins to Europeans so you are more than welcome to come visit your ancestral home, anytime.
@@JW20236 I am going to have to work on it.
Try using a vacuum cleaner hose with the brush nozzle for pre-cleaning before you wash it.
Great tip!
once you a bit road dirt on it, it will become part of the patina. I had a Belstaff waxproofed jacket that became shiny with age
Try soaking the jacket in a sink and then letting it air dry outside, might work?
I always use cleaning vinegar in the bath tub to wash out things like jackets if I don't want them sloshing around in the washing machine lol
Great tip!
Love the jacket! What is the brand and model? Have a RE Classic 500 and been loving it for years!
Thanks! It’s a Fuel Bunker jacket
What brand of helmet are you using on this video and what is your opinion of it? Cheers
It’s a ruroc atlas 4, quite noisy but good
If you pour cake crumbs on the table, more birds will come
Hello Darcy, what a lovelly video!
That is a perfect motorcycle experience: ride a nice bike on a nice back road with no clear destination in mind on the country side, stop on a beautiful place to eat some tasty snack and have some pleasant chat with some random and friendly locals.
That is what motorcycling is all about, at least for my taste.
Since you said you intend to make direct comparisions between some motorcycle models my suggestion to future videos is that you and your father ride together (when it is possible, of course) swapping bikes from time to time and exchanging impressions about them. I know that you don't live near to each other but occasionally it would be great.
As a Brazilian motorcyclist and subscriber of your channel I felt very pleased and proud that you choose the music of the Brazilian musician and composer Quincas Moreira as soundtrack to your video.
Thank you!
P.S. Hope to see your father back to the channel.
Best regards from the tropics.
🏖 🏍 🎼
Thanks so much, it’s amazing to think that people watch our videos from amazing locations such a Brazil! 😮
With the comparison videos that is what I’m hoping to do, the Ol’Man will be back on the channel very soon. Only a couple of weeks 😁
Hi, how about riding some classic and vintage bikes? You could ask the National Motorcycle Museum.
Definitely working on it 😊
Maybe review older bikes that are cool.
I really love the moto guzzi griso.
Not everyone can afford new bikes .
We are working on how we can do that! Tricky with insurance because of what we do
Hey Darcy I bought the Moto Guzzi V7 Special because of your review on it! Loved hearing you and your dad talk about the character of the V7 and had to get one. LOVE it so far!! Got it in the white and red! Great job on all these videos!
That’s so cool! Thanks very much. I’m riding a Moto Guzzi V7 Stone special edition next week 😁
The jacket looks good with the dust lol. What jacket is that?
Yeah it does tbh! It's the Fuel Bunker jacket. Me & The Ol Man have got one. Absolutely first class jacket! fuelmotorcycles.eu/collections/heritage-jackets/products/bunker-jacket
Thanks have a great day.
all hail the cow
Hey Darcy wassup how do you like to sit on the Conti hope doing good anyways njoy the breeze and creamy shakes chocolate 🍫
U.S. viewer here/ Christian/ Royal Enfield owner. Great video🙂
V85 and V100 test
don't ruin the waterproofing by machine washing ;; that bike sounds amazing ;;
Yes very true, didn’t think of that!
Dust? Patina!
Seems strange that the GT model (Tourer) would be the less comfortable model.
Yes...I think they should have named it the Cafe 650 or something along that lines. Save the continental GT name for a touring inspired model.
This bike is not uncomfortable at all. I don't know what the hell he's is talking about
to be Christian is not about being religious, is about walking the path of Jesus who gave his life for our salvation. that simple.
Sure but that is part of a religion, nothing against anyone who does that but I am an atheist.
