  • Join us on this epic adventure driving off the pavement on this classic Colorado 4x4 Trail, Imogene Pass! We take on this beautiful Alpine trail with our 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe, tackling scary shelf roads, busy one way dirt roads, scenic mountain views and lots of water crossing moments!!
    We start the trail from the town of Telluride and end at the town of Ouray, CO. This is going to be another Jeep Badge of Honor trail for us, so we are super stoked about that! The trial overall is rated Moderate by Trails Offroad, its a 12 mile long trail and typically takes 3 hrs to complete, but don't worry as I have narrowed down the footage for your enjoyment.
    This is technically the last video we shot for our 2023 San Juan Mountain series of videos, but we will soon be uploading the video we shot prior of our journey through Ophir Pass which was also incredible ( and also a Jeep Badge of Honor Trail), so stay tuned for that!!
    If you have any questions about this trail, our trip to the San Juans, our amazing 4xe or anything else, please feel free to reach out!

    I took that trail about five years ago. That was my first jeep trail extremely intense!

      Wow what a crazy first Jeep Trail haha. That's awesome though, I feel like that would make a lot of other trails by comparison seem like a peice of cake! Stunning trail though, must of been exciting and terrifying all at once 😄. Most of our first trails were local to Colorado Springs area so Imogene was many levels of intensity crazier, but we loved it! Thanks for watching

    What an amazing trail, especially if you get nice weather. I like to do Ophir pass to Telluride then back on Imogene. Nicely done.

      Thanks and yeah that's exactly what we did. We took Orphir to Telluride and then Imogene to Ouray and yeah it was a blast! Still need to upload our Ophir Pass video. Luckily for us it was a beautiful day when we did both, cant wait to go back! Thanks for the comment. ✌️

    The resolution on your footage is some of the best I’ve seen. What did you use to capture video from the windshield? I’ll be headed out there end of July this year.

      Hey thanks a lot and that's awesome, my wife and I are also hoping to eak out some time off to head back out there as well since we had such an amazing time there! We will see though as we got a lot of trips planned this year just got back from Moab recently. So I could be wrong but I assume your talking about the front facing camera footage showing the engine hood and what's in front of our Jeep, for that we typically have our GoPro Hero 10 Black shooting in 4k 60fps. It's a nice set it and forget it camera that records pretty sweet footage and it's not fragile so you can keep it out there in the rain and snow or dust with no issues. If it's super hot though it may end up overheating after a while for 4k recording so for that case I'd film from inside. Let me know if you were referring to a different camera though. Thanks for commenting and watching!!

      @@departureoutdoors yes, exactly what I was referring to so thanks for the specs. Exactly what I was looking for, robust and easy to use. New to videography here. Did you use some sort of gimbal with it?

    • @departureoutdoors
      @departureoutdoors  3 месяца назад +1

      Hey! So no not really the newer gopro models have pretty impressive stability software where they basically smooth the image out keeping it stable. I believe the main trick is that is films the video slightly larger and then crops in to 4k or whatever setting you have and thus removing a lot of the vibration and what not that you typically see, but also there some software magic going on. For the footage your referring to though, I used the GoPro branded suction cup mount which works really well and I recommend as you don't want something that may fall off your vehicle while in motion and potentially damaging your camera, but yeah that works really well in terms of sticking to the Jeep on the trail and even at speed. I usually then use the gopro app to control the camera from within the vehicle. There are a lot of accessories both from gopro and others like gimbals though and they can do wonders as well, really depends on your budget and goals/usecase in terms of filming.

      @@departureoutdoors Thanks again for the recommendations. All reasonably priced too. It’ll be the set up I’m going w/ for the trip. Forgot to mention the background music you chose for your videos works well. Keep up the good work.

    What time of year did you do this trip?

    • @departureoutdoors
      @departureoutdoors  7 месяцев назад

      Hey, so we went around the last week of August it seemed like a really nice time to be there. This year was weird with snow during June and July on the trails so we aimed for a little later.

      Incredible there was that much snow in August. I drove it 10/21/2023 from Telluride intending to drive to Ouray, but snow blocked the trail (approx 100' long section about 3' deep) on the initial descent from Imogene Pass to Ouray. Two modified Jeeps (Wrangler and Gladiator) were stuck in the snow unable to drive through the snow. I estimated they were lifted on 35s, had traction boards, and shovels, yet still unable to reach the summit. They eventually dug themselves out, backed up, turned around, and headed to Ouray. Feel free to watch the video I posted of my journey - I also ran out of battery on my GoPro and my 12V power cord wasn't working on the decent. Doah!

      Wow no way, yeah 2023 was a strange year for snow on the trails and how long it stuck around. We were happy that we even got to run the ones we did as all i heard was stories similar to yours leading up to our trip. We were sad about Black Bear as well, basically being closed the entire year more or less. Yeah I'll definitely take a look at your video sounds thanks.
