Fixed my autofocus and music problems for my newest video! If you are having trouble with the sound/visuals on this one, check this out: ruclips.net/video/xgub6c1u-AA/видео.html It’s the next step in teaching you how Shortcuts works, so hopefully you can get still get along with just that second video too! Thanks again for the feedback, and all the comments - keep it up! Trying to answer them all as soon as possible. Feel free to share your shortcuts iCloud links too :)
I am hoping someone does some tutorials on this app. There are a bunch of commands but if you don't know they are there its hard to know what is possible. I have created a couple of basic Shortcuts and customized a couple I downloaded but there is definitely a learning curve here.
davva360 For sure, I’ve got a lot of material to cover. I didn’t even learn it all until I started working there! That’s basically why I felt like I had to make the videos otherwise so many people would be lost
I blew an entire day with Siri Shortcuts. I totally agree, there needs to be a tutorial for those who want to go beyond the simple, pre-built, shortcuts.
Jeff Watts Hey Jeff, check out my latest video - fixes both these problems and covers similar material. Looking to host a cleaned-up version somewhere else that people can watch cause this is too much, sorry about that.
pogi anima That’s a really really good idea, those accessibility features should be in here. I’m going to mention that to them, it should be a priority.
Matthew Cassinelli In Microsoft Excel... creating a Macro, there is a "record" macro... recreating the steps or commands... i also suggest that. Thank you.
Matthew, great start! I'm looking foreword to more of your content. I'm an old programmer, and have tried a number of apps promising to give me more personal control over my Apple devices. None of them were that satisfying. Oddly, I never discovered Workflow. Now with Shortcuts, I am finding many functions that are remarkably powerful. This tool is going to extend the iOS platform by a huge measure.
Hey Rick! Shame you missed Workflow, almost all of the Content Type actions have been available for a few years - now that everyone is discovering it I’m wishing I had done a better job in my short time marketing it! But it’s true that now that it’s Shortcuts with Apple’s might behind it, there’s a ton more potential. I’m very much looking forward with a hopeful eye for the future!
Subscribed! I can’t wait to see what you’ve got coming. I have an acquired brain injury and Workflow enabled me to start working out again because I taught it to count reps for me! I’d love to find more things that can help me remember things and facilitate my day-to-day tasks.
Hey Carlos, I'm sorry to hear about the injury, but that is amazing that it helps so much! Would you mind sending me an email at matthew@cassinelliconsulting.com? I'm down to chat more and see if I can help more, finding ways to use this for accessibility and truly valuable stuff to people is important to me.
Matthew Cassinelli no problem. I figured it was one of three things: 1) You hadn’t actually seen the email, 2) Your intention was to answer in an upcoming video, or 3) You’re a busy guy. Not necessarily in that order.
I wish I had a way to automatically do a cycle of “save pictures as” from within website sequential pages and produce a PDF from all this images. Is it possible with shortcuts?
Your channel has the content I have been wanting to learn! I greatly appreciate the technical information. I have made some basic workflows, but I would like design them to work properly and optimally.
Hi Matthew thank you very much for this video. It really helped me to understand much more shortcuts ........ even thou there is something where i am lost. Where are the audios that i record when i made a shortcut “record audio”? Where can i find them? THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP
Emmanuel Campos Castro That action doesn’t automatically save it, you’d have to use Save to Files to place it somewhere. It’s just the function to capture audio, where it’s passed as output you can choose with other actions. I’ll be explaining more on this soon!
pwalck I took a digital video production class in high school (from my mom!) and have been doing testing for the last year or so because I had videos in mind, plus was doing some photography so I had a good light already. Also watching tons of better video makers on RUclips!
Hi! I’m trying to build a shortcut to open a website, auto login, click an specific button to update the page data and return the value from an specific field. Is that possible?
Ok, one more thought, I'd love to see a "day in the iOS life" video from someone who has 800 shortcuts on their phone, I heard you tell Mike Hurley that you forget how most people interact with their phones, I'd expect the other side of that coin is that we would be amazed to see what your iPhone usage looks like. I think this would make the potential value real to people, myself included.
Thanks for this! I had heard of workflow but never used it. Glad to see it “baked in”. I searched for “How does Siri Shortcuts work?” because I was curious about the relationship between the OS and the app in Shortcuts. You were the top hit (Bing via iOS Safari)
How do you make a call then insert a CTA through text message am with a graphic. Trying to see how short cuts would help me with text messages after calls. I am in sales.
I know Apple isn’t working with Nest but are there any shortcuts that work with Nest without using bridges, etc,? I’ve looked but they don’t seem to play together.
Hello! I have the shortcuts on my phone. I don't understand how to trigger Siri. When I click the shortcut it plays a preview perfectly of what I want said. How do I know what to say to Siri to get her to read the shortcut? My short cut is titled "Good morning Siri 1".
any idea how to automate music playback when coming home? if possible via spotify, also got homepods to use via airplay or apple music, if spotify doesn't work yet..
Hi, i am guessing it is not possible to get Siri to ask for a value which can then be entered via voice to the shortcut, therefore not requiring text input?
Yeah unfortunately not - I really really want that was well, that's part of my problem when coming up with good ones to share since I take advantage of the scripting stuff all he time. I think there is some inherent awkwardness to how something like that would have to work, so maybe introducing this first and hopefully that later would ease people into it. But of course we want to go full steam ahead right away :)
Great features and editor on iPhone, but would like to edit more complex shortcuts on my iMac. Is there an editor for iOS and a process for transferring the new shortcut (script) to my iPhone?
Welcome to RUclips, Matthew! If you're interested, here's a few suggestions for you when you make future videos: 1. Try locking focus (set your focus, then turn off AF). I noticed that your camera was hunting (focusing forwards and backwards) a lot during the video. 2. It seemed like the audio levels of your A-roll changed throughout the cuts, so maybe make sure that it's all level? Those are just minor points, though. I really enjoyed the video. Your lighting was on point, as was the B-roll! Great work!
Thank you! I’ve been looking for updated videos on this topic. Shortcuts seems like an exciting feature, and I’m looking forward to using it to its full potential.
I bought Workflow some time ago and barely used it, but I really want to learn to get the most out of it, so I’m looking forward for your videos, thank you.
Great video, thanks for sharing 🙂 I only downloaded Shortcuts yesterday, after the iOS 12 update. I haven’t used it much, but I have already found workflows that I love. For example, dictate and share. I just say, “Hey Siri listen up”, then say whatever I want her to type for me. Once I am done talking, she brings up a share sheet and I can choose what I want to do with that information. This is great, I do not need to decide what to do with the information or idea as soon as I have it. I can get it all down and decide afterward.
Thanks for watching everyone! If you liked the video I would really appreciate if you shared it on Twitter if you enjoyed it, it really goes a long way to help my launch! Will turn down/off the music next time and keep it on manual focus also :)
Mallet Yes yes yes! Please do - I have too many of my own already but seeing what other people find useful is extremely valuable to me. The most interesting part is that every shortcut can be unique and solves different problems for different people, so please share the links in the comments if you want!
Jamie McGovern Hey Jamie, the Get Weather action they demonstrated isn’t available right now (not sure why, I want it!) but otherwise you can totally do this. Here’s my shortcut for turning on my Good Morning scene, having a greeting from Siri, and then running through the Techmeme RSS feed for headlines and speaking them out loud: www.icloud.com/shortcuts/3f7a43bd0b604a9d859c063eb53df3eb
Love your channel Matt and look forward to learning more about Shortcuts. May I suggest the next time you do some recording that you turn the auto focus off on your camera as it was going crazy on this video. Keep up the good work.
Working on it right now! I also didn’t develop the app itself, I joined to help with marketing since I could tell people needed a helping hand learning it and I wanted everyone to be able to take advantage of it too. I’m just glad it’s so much bigger and better now, and I can share with you all directly :)
Is there any chance you could please do a video that shows how to automatically turn off wifi and turn on mobile data when leaving home and reversing this when you get back home. If we could build Bluetooth into the same construct then even better. Thanks in advance.
Awesome video. I’m trying to build one where it launches and plays a specific playlist, then launches Waze, then launches another app (Escort Live). I’m getting stuck between it auto switching between apps without me having to manually go back to Shortcuts for it to move on to the next action. Help!
Are you using the Open App action? That is designed to be a single jump out to another app, but if there are Siri Suggestions for Waze it should be able to chain them one after another the way you want. It does depend on the app updating to support it though.
Hey Matt I was wondering if it’s possible to get a shortcut working that would be really useful for me in my daily life and maybe to others out there aswell! As a snooze addict i need 3 Alarms in the morning to make sure i get up. Annoying problem is that when i am up i have to Disable and enable them all, so they stop ringing but are ready to Start again tomorrow. Really useful would be a short phrase like ‚I‘m up‘ that disables and reanables those alarms at once so that when i am already up they stop annoying me and i am also safe that they are ready for the Next day. Is that possible? I cant figure out how by myself. Would appreciate your Input! Thanks!
I am so freaking exciting for this you have no idea, I’m not a programmer, my dad is, but this is so interesting, building my own Siri to help me do things faster and more conveniently!!! Thank you sir for all of your help in creating this wonderful system and hope to see more videos from you soon!
Hi.I would like to play my favorite apple music playlist with homepod with using shortcuts. Is it possible?I set shortcurt with this but music i still playing only from iphone
Hi Matthew, thanks you for this video and for your enthusiasm! I want to learn how to master this and I need your help. I spend hours last night trying to do one thing and couldn’t manage it. When will we see more of you? Many thanks. Alan
I’m working on a new video this week! I am trying to balance getting it all out there quickly with making sure I’m clear & helpful and now doing too much too fast. I’m also new to shooting and editing video so I’ve got some things to figure out there as well. What were you working on? Maybe I can give some tips - very practical examples are easiest for me to work with, coming up with theoretical ideas for everyone else is what just takes more consideration!
I was trying to get an action to happen inside and app that wasn’t directly supported by iOS 12. Example: I had a switch that turns on and off a series of electrical items and I wanted to simply to create an action that would be the same as saying “switch on” (which works with google assistant) but I could find no way of of doing it. The actual app for the switch I can get open but can’t then seem to command anything into it. Hope that makes sense. Can’t wait to see your other videos. Don’t go too far too quickly - treat us like idiots! Many thanks.
Hello Mathew I’m trying to create a short that will turn off Face ID in setting and have my iPhone USE numerical pass code to unlocking my iPhone by saying the phrase Siri “lock down’. But I can not come up with flow the commands I am looking for in short cut are not available. Can you help me out I really want to learn short cuts
Quiestion, how would I set up shortcuts to FaceTime audio call a group of people. Also can you have shortcuts turn on Apple TV or launch an app on the Apple TV via remote app?
Kenth Colina Nothing with Shortcuts on Apple TV currently - that would be cool but I’d imagine it’s not the priority right off the bat. Otherwise use a Contacts action filled out with the people and FaceTime action to make the call!
When I run the contact script and input two contacts and route both to FaceTime then audio when you actually run the command it ask which contact you want to call. You can’t initiate group calling.
I tried creating a simple shortcut to test it. Started with a gallery option, what time do I need to leave home. I could see where to enter departure point but not the destination. Weird stuff, not the normal easy apple way.
It's definitely a bit different - it's hard to tell without seeing your shortcut but it sounds like you could add an Address action beforehand which would output its location, then that gets passed into Get Travel Time as the destination point. I haven't explained anything about how Shortcuts actions pass data back and forth, so that's coming soon, but the content type actions within Shortcuts hook into each other more than how Siri Suggestions can just be chained in order.
Is it possible to have shortcuts run automatically based on location? Or do they require a manual trigger? I'd like to my phone to automatically mute when I get to work.
Adam Dempsey They do require triggers, in many ways the name seems to imply how they’re thinking about it now - it’s a shortcut *you* take using Siri, but it’s not automation per se. Right now the best way to get close would be using Launch Center Pro (~$5) and their scheduled location-based notifications, which you can then tap and have your shortcut run: itunes.apple.com/us/app/id532016360?at=10lMM3 I use that all the time, and that app is also just a great way to visually arrange icons of shortcuts that you can tap to open and run.
I thought me talking for 7 minutes straight in my monotone voice would be boring, and since this is my first video I don’t know how to properly mix music yet, plus you can’t edit RUclips videos once they are uploaded. (Edited to remove snark)
So I have a question. Ever since WWDC I’ve wanted to build a shortcut that I can run in the morning. I say my phrase, Siri reads me the weather, reads my notifications, and then starts the NPR podcast. Is that possible to do?
Shortcuts can’t read the notifications out loud, but that would be an interesting feature. I tend to get a lot of notifications though so that might be a bit overwhelming. The NPR part is already possible, and the Weather one will be because they demoed a new action for it (but it’s not in Shortcuts yet, oddly).
Would love walkthroughs on these two Shortcuts, which I think many people could benefit from- Shortcut Ideas: “Wake Up Auto Alarm” Shortcut - Use home as starting location - Look up first calendar event location of the current day - Determine travel time - Create wake up alarm based on travel time + 1.5 hour getting ready time “The Day Ahead” Shortcut - Determine when I am on the road to work or my first appointment in the morning - Automatically ask if I’d like to hear each of my upcoming calendar appointments - Read upcoming calendar appointments Thanks!
If you will be making more videos for guides on utilizing shortcuts then do it man. I am subbing for that! I have no clue how to utilize the Siri Shortcuts and I never tried the IFTTT before Apple acquired them.
dope vid def subbed. i think itd be great to know how to do different settings for different locations and how to turn them off. also the big one. how to get spotify to work on a shortcut so i can just talk to my phone for playlists. thanks look forward to the vids
Thanks! I’d say some combination of Get Current Location, If, and the settings actions would do the trick. If you get started on one and want me to take a look, feel free to share the iCloud link!
Honestly, I haven’t found any app I’ve been so eager to learn because YES to possibilities, the magic it could create excites me. I need tutorial!!!! Can you show tutorials with math? Something that we can apply to our work. Say things like what an excel could do.
Hey Aldrin, thanks for the comment! I will get to some math shortcuts eventually but for now I'm doing more personal shortcuts than pure work - I'll add it to the list though!
Hey Matt! Enjoyed the video. Looking forward to your future videos. - I’m trying to create a shortcut to help me do the following: Ideally, I’d like to select a word, hit “the shortcut”, have the word be sent to dictionary.com, the definition page is saved as a pdf, and then pushed to my OneNote app, where I organize a list of vocabulary words I’m learning. Is this possible? Or something to this effect? Doesn’t have to be a pdf, or dictionary.com, just need the selected “word” and “definition” to land in OneNote after the “shortcut” has been executed. What are your thoughts?
So cool that you were a part of Workflow! I just wish that Apple integrated it into the settings menu rather than a standalone app, or at the least they could make it a stock app included with iOS 12.
Should I Get It I bet it will get there eventually - since it’s a port it will take a bit of engineering to get it that deeply integrated. Looking forward to seeing what the team makes, they’re amazing.
I'm not sure you'd be able to dictate your whole status from within Siri, but you can use her to trigger the shortcut to run and then type in your status using Ask For Input, then use Tweet to send it to Twitter, Get Variable to grab the Inputted Text again, and Share to select Facebook's extension and share from there.
Hey Mathew, first of all congratulations for this app. I’ve been using workflow for a long time and I was really exited when apple announced they will integrate with IOS. I am software developer and I find a lot of potential to this app from now on and I know that there will be a lot of cool shortcuts shared by the users. Is there any advanced documentation with details and tips for this app out there? Thanks
Hi Matthew, can you please do a video on how to automatically run a Shortcut at a specific/time day, or location, or event/state - for example: if I am connected to the work WiFi network and currently have a meeting in my work calendar, I want Do Not Disturb mode to automatically come on, and then turn off at the end of a meeting. Also, I want a "morning routine" Shortcut to run at 8am every morning on a weekday. Stuff like that would be so helpful! Thanks so much
Dew Alam Unfortunately all of that isn’t natively possible right now, these are like keyboard shortcuts you have to utilize and not true automation like Zapier. I’d check out Launch Center Pro for location-based and scheduled triggers, you’ll get notifications to tap and then start your shortcut
Matthew Cassinelli Ah that's a shame. I'll check out Launcher Pro. Really hope Apple improve Shortcuts to natively do that stuff - make it a lot more useful!
Great vid Matt, looking forward to more.. btw please share all your workflows!!! I'm in the "I know this stuff is awesome but have limited time to get creative and the gallery is just not complex enough" camp :)
Is it possible to use Shortcuts to get an iPhone to auto reply to a text message? Like if I get a message from a specific contact I would always like to send a specific reply. Or if you receive a message containing a specific word the app will respond with a specific auto reply.
Hey Jessica! Not that way exactly, unfortunately - these don’t monitor the system, they just are like keyboard shortcuts for touch so you have to trigger them. You could set up a shortcut to send the same message to the same person with a custom trigger phrase, then just use Siri to send it whenever you see their text come in.
Tried a little bit of the shortcut app. nice job! The app significantly extends the potential of what iOS could possibly do. The way how these workflows are created seems to me a coding experience, a very user friendly coding experience, done in a drag&drop manner. This is the future, man. If iOS is 1, then this idea extends iOS to at least 1.5.
Fantastic video and I am really excited to try this since I loved Workflow. Just a little constructive criticism. The music you are using is too loud and distracting and adds no value to your video. With that said, there is great info in here
Nope, unfortunately. I’m mentioning that in my next video because it’s a super common request - these are more like keyboard shortcuts for touch than automations like IFTTT. You can use Launch Center Pro to trigger notifications to run shortcuts but you have tap them - can be scheduled or location-based.
Great video for being your first .i subscribed , glad to be part of your journey. but to be honest the music in the background was a bit distracting. Was kinda like competing over your voice . But good job 👏🏼 I
I need a Shortcut that will let me snap a picture or two of receipts, convert them to PDF, and then email them to myself. I tried to make one and can’t figure it out. Could you help me with this
Is there a way to scan document instead of just taking a photo? Like in the notes app when you can automatically find edges and crop it to scan a document?
Dan World Thanks so much, I’m glad to hear that. It helps that I really am excited, this is much cooler than I could have expected. And it is just fun, and hopefully I can help anyone learn it so that’s super motivating to me.
wow MATT welcome to RUclips what an excellent video i gave you a like and i am going to subscribe looking forward to the next video and i am very keen learning how to use this app
Matthew Cassinelli morning/afternoon/evening routines. For example (get directions to work, turn off hue lights, start morning podcasts). I know their are some simple routines in the shortcuts gallery already but I'd like to see a video on a more complex one. Or just how to build my own from scratch using variables like if my time to work is more then X minutes, email my boss saying I'm going to be X min late.
Matt McGuffin Sounds good, that's what I'm thinking for the next one anyways! Some of the variables stuff might take a little while to explain so I am saving that for one or two later.
Love how you have the Workflow logo behind you there. Workflow has been on iOS for a long time and now Apple acts like they have made something revolutionary. Something borrowed.
Paul Imisi Well I dunno if they’re acting all high and mighty about it, but I also don’t imagine it’d be a great message to be like “We bought this app and now it’s part of Siri”. They really barely mentioned the Shortcuts app, the Siri Shortcuts feature itself is part of Apple and wasn’t Workflow though. I think they did a great job keeping Workflow alive until now at the very least. And this is just the start.
TheBluejay83 That depends on how Logitech supports it! I believe they might have an API/webhook that you can utilize too, but I don’t have one to test it with.
Siri has definitely gotten better. When I got my 6s in 2016, she was horrible. I was babied by Google and commanding google to do stuff for my android. She couldn’t even make simple phone calls back then. Fast forward to 3 years and I’m able to do way more with her and she’s been extremely handy to have. She’s become a great assistant.
Zach Zima Yeah I shouldn’t exactly have said that, I tried to be like “They could...” I don’t know what Spotify is doing, it’s on them to support it. I thought they were going to puff their chest about working on HomePod now
A bug in this simple shortcut -get current song -add to playlist It often add the previous song played instead of the current one playing to my playlist ending up with many double... Is there a way to solve that bug... ?
I thing I solved my problem by myself... Bye doing this I don’t have double anymore ! So I’m listening to music and when I like the song, I use my Siri shortcut (Keep it) to add it to a playlist ! Shortcut Keep it: -Get current song -nothing -get current song -add to playlist
This is really interesting, but I can't seem to be able to make the shortcut that I want. I listen to podcasts in the car on the way to and from work so I want a shortcut that gets directions to home, starts navigating, and then starts/continues playing whatever podcast is next in the queue. I use apple's podcasts app. I can get the maps to bring up the directions (but not start navigating automatically), and I can get it to play a specific podcast, but not to just start playing whatever podcast is next in the way that "Hey Siri, play podcasts" works. Any help and advice gratefully received!
Hey Billy, I don’t know if you get exactly what you want on this first iteration - the Podcasts app needs a better shortcut for that Listen Now screen which is probably what normal Siri uses. I don’t think it can trigger navigation immediately either but that definitely should be on their list.
I noticed that you took a video of your iPad screen. What if you posted a screen capture video and then did a voiceover? Would you run into any copyright issues? I haven’t seen any video so far that has a simple tutorial that shows how to create a 2-3 step shortcut... something to capture the attention of the viewer and get them excited...
I’m trying to make more videos that demo how to build them, but I’m trying to do a real video over screencasts partially because seeing my hands and how I build them helps, and partially to shoot for a higher production value. I’ll probably do quick screencasts on Twitter too (@mattcassinelli), but keep my channel to videos of me guiding you through it.
Fixed my autofocus and music problems for my newest video! If you are having trouble with the sound/visuals on this one, check this out: ruclips.net/video/xgub6c1u-AA/видео.html
It’s the next step in teaching you how Shortcuts works, so hopefully you can get still get along with just that second video too!
Thanks again for the feedback, and all the comments - keep it up! Trying to answer them all as soon as possible.
Feel free to share your shortcuts iCloud links too :)
Matthew Cassinelli Grazie bello!!!
Hey Matt, love the video. I think you should set focus to manual on the camera you're filming, that way the camera won't autofocus every second.
Agneev Mukherjee Totally agree, didn’t think about it before I filmed. Will change next time, thanks!
or dont wear a white shirt on bright background :D - looking forward to see more of you - thanks for the upload btw ;)
Great advice !!! 👏

I spent hours trying to work out how to get siri to ASDA to my shopping list in notes app, but just got lost.
There's one YT channel. That already covered all bout Siri's shortcuts. E.g. How to work with custom commands. Adding Verbal passwords to an action
Background music is very distracting and offputting
Totally messed that up, won't happen again! Sorry about that.
Background music... how bout the focus that kept shifting? Damn, made it too hard for me to watch. Sounded like it would be a interesting watch.
Jeff Watts Hey Jeff, check out my latest video - fixes both these problems and covers similar material. Looking to host a cleaned-up version somewhere else that people can watch cause this is too much, sorry about that.
how to use shortcut to prompt guided access? after opening a certain apps like camera then guided access on...

Matthew Cassinelli I sent an email shortly after this exchange. I’m not sure if you got it, but your new video addressed some of my questions.
Carlos Benjamin Hey Carlos, so sorry - was working on my latest video all weekend. I have some time tomorrow, I still might be able to help.
Matthew Cassinelli no problem. I figured it was one of three things: 1) You hadn’t actually seen the email, 2) Your intention was to answer in an upcoming video, or 3) You’re a busy guy. Not necessarily in that order.

Glad I found this!! Super excited about this app! I’m using some of the ones you made right now. There is a huge potential for this. Thanks!
Hey Matthew, how do you turn ON/OFF Nightshift in Shortcuts ?
Your channel has the content I have been wanting to learn! I greatly appreciate the technical information. I have made some basic workflows, but I would like design them to work properly and optimally.
Hi 👋 I wanted to know if it's possible to create a shortcut for connecting my iPhone to my Airpords and then play my last audiobook?
is it possible to add a shortcut to airplay mirroring?
There is a way to shoot a burst photo from a workflow? I can only shoot normal photo

Didn't realize this would be your first video when you talked about it, great job! Looking forward to hearing more about the in-depth stuff.
pwalck I took a digital video production class in high school (from my mom!) and have been doing testing for the last year or so because I had videos in mind, plus was doing some photography so I had a good light already. Also watching tons of better video makers on RUclips!
Hi, you do an outstanding job explaining SiriShort cuts. Please continue to help the Siri Short cuts users
Hi!
I’m trying to build a shortcut to open a website, auto login, click an specific button to update the page data and return the value from an specific field. Is that possible?
Great first video, I'll be following closely. Somehow I think your channel is going to grow like crazy.
Also, you need to go into your end screen and edit the video suggestion, right now it just says "video unavailable".
I think this would make the potential value real to people, myself included.
what does ^shift k mean ? i cant figure out what button the ^ should represent on apple ( not the shift 6 button )
thx
So far so good Matt! I'm looking forward to seeing you build some Shortcuts and learning as I go.
How can I get my GarageMate app,(bluetooth app,) to open when I get close to home ,,
Im asking to open the app,,,when I’m getting close to home
Welcome to RUclips, Matthew!
If you're interested, here's a few suggestions for you when you make future videos:
Great work!
lol "welcome to youtube" very high horse there
Thank you! I’ve been looking for updated videos on this topic. Shortcuts seems like an exciting feature, and I’m looking forward to using it to its full potential.
can you tell me how I can get the shortcut app I can't find it in the appl store!
I bought Workflow some time ago and barely used it, but I really want to learn to get the most out of it, so I’m looking forward for your videos, thank you.
Glad to help! Anything in particular that you struggled with?
Great video, thanks for sharing 🙂 I only downloaded Shortcuts yesterday, after the iOS 12 update. I haven’t used it much, but I have already found workflows that I love. For example, dictate and share. I just say, “Hey Siri listen up”, then say whatever I want her to type for me. Once I am done talking, she brings up a share sheet and I can choose what I want to do with that information. This is great, I do not need to decide what to do with the information or idea as soon as I have it. I can get it all down and decide afterward.
BTW at the end screen in the bottom right it says "This video is unavailable"
Should I Get It Ah good to know, I have no clue what I’m doing with those!!
Thanks for watching everyone! If you liked the video I would really appreciate if you shared it on Twitter if you enjoyed it, it really goes a long way to help my launch!
Will turn down/off the music next time and keep it on manual focus also :)
Nice job, Matty C.
Eager to see your next video on shortcuts. Can’t wait!
Can Siri stop the annoying music in the background?
Love your channel Matt and look forward to learning more about Shortcuts. May I suggest the next time you do some recording that you turn the auto focus off on your camera as it was going crazy on this video. Keep up the good work.
Definitely Ralph, that was just a silly mistake. Glad to hear it's still useful despite that though :)
I hope you continue this series. It would be great to learn how to use this app from one of the people who developed it.
Working on it right now! I also didn’t develop the app itself, I joined to help with marketing since I could tell people needed a helping hand learning it and I wanted everyone to be able to take advantage of it too. I’m just glad it’s so much bigger and better now, and I can share with you all directly :)
Is it possible to enable night shift in shortcuts?
Is there any chance you could please do a video that shows how to automatically turn off wifi and turn on mobile data when leaving home and reversing this when you get back home. If we could build Bluetooth into the same construct then even better. Thanks in advance.
Can I create a shortcut to just open the camera app and for it automatically start recording?
Not right now, that’d be a good addition though
Awesome video. I’m trying to build one where it launches and plays a specific playlist, then launches Waze, then launches another app (Escort Live). I’m getting stuck between it auto switching between apps without me having to manually go back to Shortcuts for it to move on to the next action. Help!
Are you using the Open App action? That is designed to be a single jump out to another app, but if there are Siri Suggestions for Waze it should be able to chain them one after another the way you want. It does depend on the app updating to support it though.
Looking forward to learning about Shortcuts, Cheers Matthew
Are all of your shortcuts available somewhere?
Hey Matt
I was wondering if it’s possible to get a shortcut working that would be really useful for me in my daily life and maybe to others out there aswell!
Could you do video on how to generate QR codes with Wi-Fi login details. Thank you
Hi.I would like to play my favorite apple music playlist with homepod with using shortcuts.
Yey. More Shortcuts tutorials in the future. Great Video. Thanks.
Thanks! Did you happen to see my second video?
Yep. For a non programmer like me, Shortcuts is so cool to play around. I am looking forward to learn more from this series. Thanks.
Hey Felipe! This isn't possible right now, but that'd be an interesting feature - have you requested it from Apple?
Thank for the help hopefully we can able to do short cut like this but still amazing app
Right now the best way to get close would be using Launch Center Pro (~$5) and their scheduled location-based notifications, which you can then tap and have your shortcut run: itunes.apple.com/us/app/id532016360?at=10lMM3
I use that all the time, and that app is also just a great way to visually arrange icons of shortcuts that you can tap to open and run.
Wow great video, I was so focused on the content, I didn't notice any music. Up to this point I have never used Siri, that's soon to change, thank you
How does the background music help?
I thought me talking for 7 minutes straight in my monotone voice would be boring, and since this is my first video I don’t know how to properly mix music yet, plus you can’t edit RUclips videos once they are uploaded.
(Edited to remove snark)
Your voice is not monotone. It’s a good video.
Would love walkthroughs on these two Shortcuts, which I think many people could benefit from-
Shortcut Ideas:
“Wake Up Auto Alarm” Shortcut
- Use home as starting location
- Look up first calendar event location of the current day
- Determine travel time
- Create wake up alarm based on travel time + 1.5 hour getting ready time
“The Day Ahead” Shortcut
- Determine when I am on the road to work or my first appointment in the morning
- Automatically ask if I’d like to hear each of my upcoming calendar appointments
- Read upcoming calendar appointments
Thanks!
My new favourite channel! Can you please make a “how to “ for HomePod video ?
I was waiting for this, thank YOU
🙌
If you will be making more videos for guides on utilizing shortcuts then do it man. I am subbing for that! I have no clue how to utilize the Siri Shortcuts and I never tried the IFTTT before Apple acquired them.
Great video! I would like a shortcut for download videos from tumblr, Twitter, RUclips to camera roll
There are definitely Reddit posts on this from other people - I can’t exactly make a video encouraging people to download copywritten content 😬
Super nice!
Thanks for the overview and explanation!
Martin Dörsch Thank you Martin! 😊
Good video and content but music was distracting. No need for music.
Sorry about that Lisa, I listened so many times I didn't realize it was that bad! Fixing it for next time.
dope vid def subbed. i think itd be great to know how to do different settings for different locations and how to turn them off. also the big one. how to get spotify to work on a shortcut so i can just talk to my phone for playlists. thanks look forward to the vids
Hey Mathew. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks Sumeet! Hope you’re doing well :)
How to do make shortcuts to post statuses to Twitter and Facebook using Siri? Please show us how to do that.
How can I make hive turn on and off light with Siri suggestions
AFFILMS It’d be on the app developer to integrate their app with Siri Shortcuts!
I ha ve no space to install a apps so what can I do
Thanks Matthew!
Joe Farah Thanks for watchin’ Joe!
Thanks for the video. Looking forward to more.
After watching this video guess what I just installed it and it’s cool thanks for your help 🔥
Dope! Let me know if any shortcuts were particularly cool to you.
Hey upload more videos
Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the videos!! 🙏🏾
Gregory Stewart Thank you Gregory!
With that said, there is great info in here
Can a shortcut be triggered by an event behind the scenes? For example, if I’m in a meeting - can it then put my phone on Do Not Disturb or something?
Nope, unfortunately. I’m mentioning that in my next video because it’s a super common request - these are more like keyboard shortcuts for touch than automations like IFTTT.
You can use Launch Center Pro to trigger notifications to run shortcuts but you have tap them - can be scheduled or location-based.
Great video for being your first .i subscribed , glad to be part of your journey. but to be honest the music in the background was a bit distracting. Was kinda like competing over your voice . But good job 👏🏼 I
Jet Modos Yup, didn’t do enough testing with good headphones at the beginning. Thanks for watching!
I need a Shortcut that will let me snap a picture or two of receipts, convert them to PDF, and then email them to myself. I tried to make one and can’t figure it out. Could you help me with this
Isaiah Thatcher Try using Take Photos, Combine Images, Make PDF, and Send Email - if you get stuck post your shortcut link here and I will help.
Is there a way to scan document instead of just taking a photo? Like in the notes app when you can automatically find edges and crop it to scan a document?
dude, well done! you have an inviting personality :)
Great first video. Can't wait to see the rest of them.
Thanks so much Matt! Anything in particular you want to see?
And this is just the start.
good info... but please focus the camera and cut the background music.
Robert Hernandez On it!
What about the Logitech Harmony? Will it work with shortcuts? Great video! Thx.
Can’t wait for more!!!
Thanks Zach! Anything in particular you want to see?
Matthew Cassinelli just curious to see what can happen with this. I wanna control Spotify but that isn’t possible yet I guess
Zach Zima Yeah I shouldn’t exactly have said that, I tried to be like “They could...”
I don’t know what Spotify is doing, it’s on them to support it. I thought they were going to puff their chest about working on HomePod now
A bug in this simple shortcut
-get current song
-add to playlist
It often add the previous song played instead of the current one playing to my playlist ending up with many double...
Is there a way to solve that bug... ?
I thing I solved my problem by myself...
Bye doing this I don’t have double anymore !
So I’m listening to music and when I like the song,
I use my Siri shortcut (Keep it) to add it to a playlist !
Shortcut Keep it:
-Get current song
-nothing
-get current song
-add to playlist
Great channel. Looking forward to seeing many more videos!
Thanks so much Nick! I'm working on it ;)
Where did you get that shirt?! I love it!
kyle steele The Apple Store in Cupertino! I think they’re exclusives on campus
Matthew Cassinelli thanks for taking the time to reply Matthew.
Looking forward to following you 😀
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
good job mattew waiting for more videos
