As a computer science student, I find the shortcuts app fascinating. I love being able to build little pseudo programs on my phone to make mundane tasks a lot easier. When I’m not working on big projects for classes, I’m on my phone making a shortcut that divides my power bill by and sends a Venmo request to my roommates. Or making shortcuts to extend Spotify’s functionality through Siri. Thank you so much for making this wonderful app!
I now wake tf up Cyberpunk 2077 style and get immediately told all the shit I got to do that day as well as the weather thanks to this tutorial. Thanks so much! 😊
I just made a weather shortcut that mimics the way Siri says the weather. If anyone wants the weather read out to them in their morning routine. I based my calendar one on this agenda one. But now you can just say hey Siri give me my update and she’ll do weather, calendar and read the news. I don’t use this because I want to control HomeKit scenes and have a random fact.
0:36 Setting up the shortcut 1:20 Find Reminders 2:47 Get the upcoming reminders 4:32 Calendar events 5:37 Show results 6:28 The author runs the shortcut 6:40 Improving results
The “Repeat With Each” action always confused me until now. I have watched this video a dozen times and have referenced it easily twice that amount. I loved how you showed that the initial output was a bit jacked up but you showed how that you corrected the issues. 𝗦𝗢 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗣𝗙𝗨𝗟
Thank you so much for this video! This is almost exactly the shortcut I’ve been looking to build! So glad I found this channel. Even though I am terrible at making my own shortcuts, I love learning about this kind of stuff!
Yeah, this was very useful. However, maybe I’m thinking of Google Home, but isn’t there one of these already? That’s what I was searching for, perhaps, or I’m mistaken for Google Assistant. Anyhow, Usually, I’d instead read the watchmen video, but this video was perfectly well done and concise ll
Oops. I mean, Isn't there a template built-in, so the filters don’t have to be configured. And when you say the word “agenda,” bing bang boom, it brings up the weather, headlines, due/overdue tasks/reminders/birthdays, etc.
Bryant Manning Lol I’m not gonna lie, I probably couldn’t easily in a video. It was a challenge and I basically forgot, there’s some weird inversions & I think I reversed it from another a long time ago.
For looking at my events i use my Apple Watch, except for birthdays, for those i have an Special Calendar named "Birthdays" and run a Shortcut each day i make a review (Sundays), this then creates tasks for each day X person has his birthday, and includes the info of the person, in the note of a task in Omnifocus including a direct link to make a call and wish them a Happy B-day.
Matthew: Thank you so much for this very informative You Tube video. I was very excited to see Siri Shortcuts come out and have been working with them. Your videos are the most clear and concise. I downloaded your Agenda shortcut but wanted to add a weather forecast and cheery message. After much cursing and deleting, I managed to do so with the free Dark Skies app. Now, after my upcoming agenda, I get a brief weather report and Seri tell me to have a Great Day! I think equally important as the shortcut is you ability to make viewers not fear to play with the programing. Thanks!!
Nice... I haven’t realize I could rename magic variables, neither that Repeat Item and Repeat Result would store the entire array of data, I had to iterate an array in one of my shortcuts and the logic was huge... with those Repeat Item and Result I’ll be able to simplify them... Very cool video!
Matthew Cassinelli something similar to google good morning routine.....tell me about the weather, my commute, todays calendar, and reminders. I found different shortcuts to do each step but I have to put them all together.
Great video 👍. And also 👍 for all your videos in the shortcuts series. I’ve adapted the agenda app and made minor adjustments, but I cannot figure how to display 2 calendars at the same time? I use an exchange and a gmail for business and private.
Hi mate I found a flaw in the Birthday’s sections. (In a lot of cases it’s not a problem since you don’t usually have more than one birthday a day but if there are, instead of passing the repeat with results into the Birthdays statement, you’ve passed the text, only adding the first birthday. Furthermore. For birthdays it’s actually better to use a birthday calendar, instead of reading all your contacts, it’s significantly faster. That way you don’t have to go and edit all your contacts too, you can just import a Facebook calendar for instance. The reason calendar events work faster is because they’re preprocessed and are a small list, using contacts you have to parse about 400 contacts or more depending.
Dide. this is amazing! Only thing, do you have any idea, is it possible for Siri to ignore emojis in event titles? And also make a short pause between telling two event titles? Thanks!
Julia V You might need to use Find Reminders twice, first to find the main reminder, then again to filter by the subtasks - that, or you can tap on the Reminders variable and switch it to subtasks, depends on what you’re trying to do! Happy to help more
Hey David - using the Show Result and running it from Siri will get her to speak the text out loud. Alternately you could pass the info into Speak Text - check out my HomePod video for more examples: ruclips.net/video/8w7zDk7jmq4/видео.html
Matthew Cassinelli I watched the video and still don't know how to send show result to siri? Or how to make siri speak it. I hope you get back to me as it's annoying, I did everything you did and still couldn't use it I wish that could be played automatically each morning after the alarm stops.
David Rathbun Thanks for your reply. I still don"t know how can I ask siri hey siri what's my day like and make siri state all of that? I am slightly close to the point of making it speak inside the app during the setup of the shortcut but still can't link siri to it and make siri answer my question what's my day like. :(
Hi Matt, I created this shortcut when you brought out this video. I did some small changes and it worked great. However, since i updated to ios 13 the shortcut does not work anymore when I run it from Siri. It says it found an issue. It still does work directly from shortcuts app. Any ideas?
Hey, Matthew. Thank you so much for your channel, so much useful and new information and most important easy to understand building commands to people who never code. I have started to use Siri Shortcuts just few days ago and I’m so happy with the results, however somehow your shortcut playing different on my devices and not like at your video. Siri after every task telling me: ‘that’s done. Done” and not showing the result at all, when I’m running this shortcut from app it’s work perfectly. Can you please explain what issues I’m fighting with? Thank you so much ones again
Hey Michael, this has been super broken and is fixed now - definitely really frustrating. I was trying to make more videos and couldn’t get it to work myself! They should be fine now, if not I’ll have to make a video and shame them for breaking our tool!
I’m fiddling with it trying to fix it when there are no upcoming reminders. Right now it says, “Your upcoming reminders are Here are your events for today” which will confuse me and I’ll end up looking to see if I really don’t have any or there’s a glitch (my life is full of glitches).
Hello, great tutorial. I downloaded the shortcut but my iPhone Xr will not have Siri speak out when I invoke the shortcut using hey Siri. This is happening with other shortcuts I have also. Can’t figure it out and it’s driving me nuts! Any suggestions?
Do you know of a way to show current all day events? Say I have an all day event that runs across many days, if the start date isn’t today it doesn’t show up at all. It’s really bugging me.
Great vid tut. However I can’t seems to get “hey siri” work then read all the agenda. Also, the link you have for the shortcut is no longer available. Any update?? I love your content.
I copied everything, and the test run gives me the desired data output, but once I tell Siri to run the shortcut, she just answers "That's done". Any idea what I might have missed?
Hi Matthew! I assume you are running some kind of developer beta version. Are you able to setup specific alarms for tomorrow (not just to toggle existing ones)? Is that functionality coming in the future to rest of us? Thanks for your videos! Keep them coming 🙂
@Matthew Cassinelli Just updated to 12.1 and nothing changed... :( still no option to create alarms with Shortcuts... Edit: i forgot to update Shortcuts app 🤦♂️
@@MatthewCassinelli Hello Matt, thanks for sharing your shortcut. This agenda shortcut works well apart from birthday...... I am expecting it to tell me who's birthday is today but it doesnt work..... any idea why? Thanks
I think I know why it's not working but dont know how to fix it. When the birthday in contact doesnt have a year then it won't work, so it will only work when the birthday in contact contains year.
Rowan Strang You could add in the logic for that too! I guess I fill up my stuff a ton so there’s usually something. Instead of Nothing you could add some text that’s like “No events today”.
Pat Fraser It’s coming soon - there’s a new Weather action in Shortcuts 2.1, I think it’s launching tomorrow. Will make sure to mention and link an updated version when the time comes!
Jasper Peters I’m on the latest beta, but I’m pretty sure this is a server-side thing that’s being fixed soon. I have a feeling the next version will drop with iOS 12.1 tomorrow, so hopefully everyone gets it quickly! Glad it wasn’t showing up for my video :)
Jet Modos I agree that it does seem like a lot for every single day - was mostly saying you *could* now because of Shortcuts. It’s taking me a while to adapt to more voice stuff but when the opportunity arises it’s nice to have it - I’ve been waking up earlier and trying to protect my mornings, so leaving my phone aside & triggering this from my Apple Watch has been handy while I’m getting ready.
Korie Jenkins I can - I’m curious if you could based on what I built for the other two! It’d be a similar logic, just Count, If, and Text the same ways. Try it if you can, learning yourself is the best for the future - otherwise if you can’t get I can jump in again. Just doing my sherpa thing :)
Hi. Love what you do. But, if this is a tutorial video, you need to slow it down. I'm starting to learn shortcuts but if you doing it at this rate I can't even follow. Just my opinion.
Way past being a pensioner, I can see you're doing brilliant stuff but, sadly, far too quickly for me to even take notes. About 1/4 speed would be about right. I'm now going for coffee then will be running this again and again (x4). Regardless, I thank you for the trouble you've taken.
I’m making a new one - it’s hard to edit down a shortcut-building process and not have it been fairly quick. I do livestreams occasionally on how to build them that are easier to follow along.
