@Freyja Frigg well I'm in the UK and although autos are selling well here, manuals still outsell autos by a huge margin since our driving curriculum is based on the manual transmission
@Freyja Frigg the local Honda dealer near me says a different story. Manuals are slightly more popular. The local Kia dealer keeps running out of manual equipt Forte GT while dct equipt ones wait on the lot a bit longer. I was lucky on the day when manual equipt Souls were delivered on the lot and I bought one right away. At the end of the day, all 4 manual Souls were gone. Thats here in Texas
My wife bought one. 2017 model. I can tell you it is fun to drive. Only maintenance problems are the tires, Conti Pros. Wears em out and they are pricey. Road noise is pretty loud too. Road drone makes me sleepy whenever I ride with her. Im making the last payment in August and am more than happy with it.
As a type R owner and not having watched the video yet I can tell you the R is practical & fun in all the right ways. I absolutely love the car and would 10/10 recommend it. With some nice all seasons or decent winter tires, the car had no issues in feet of NY snow either.
Lol. The car already looks rough. Curb rash like a mug on those rims, filthy interior. I won't have my dogs in an expensive car like that, but to each his own.
@@clutchem ya this owner doesn't.respect his car... Also if you own this car... You don't let anyone go under her skirt but.yoirself... not even your cool uncle like Scotty..
Caleb Gordon Expensive? The average new car price in 2020 is $37,851. Sorry to say man but this isn’t an expensive car- it’s an exactly average priced car. It’s certainly an expensive Civic but it’s still a Civic. At it’s core this is a hatchback meant for getting to and from the grocery store. It just happens to be one that will allow you to attack your favorite road on the way there. Personally I don’t like the looks or the questionable reliability of this 2.0L motor but in terms of functionality and fun to drive this would be my choice over something like an A3/S3 hatch simply because I can get it in manual (assuming the 3 hatch comes back to the states).
@@gottawatch1932 Well my type R cost me 36,000K because one of my cousins worked at the dealership. It's a 10/10 Car the maintenance is the equivalent of any civic and the gas mileage is average (not as good as a Civic or Corolla). Definitely a car you can daily if you baby it. It feels like butter on turns so quick. Like I said 10/10 car worth every penny.
Badge# 34907. Not 1 grind in 3400 miles... People just think fast and furious gear banging is how youre supposed to shift a stock gearbox, then say its crap when they grind. Nope, driver error. 4 Honda manuals across 13 years. Maybe 5 grinds in that time, all were my fault.
Cindy Sue hmmmm they’re not on the same level tho Sure the Veloster N is a great car for the money but the Civic Type R performs better and holds its value well
@@basithph8958 the veloster n isnt that far under the type r, it's about 80% of the way between the si and the type r, and the veloster turbo really competes with the si
It's one of the most versatile new cars out in the market right now: Honda reliability, practical, best combination of daily and track performance, and it really does look fantastic!
For all of the Honda haters out there, I own a 2019 GTI and I can tell you with full confidence, that this Honda is very well built. I don't even like Honda, but Type R is very well built. Engine and suspension is over engineered, it's a very suitable price set for what it does. Other manufacturers , would not have this QULITY BUILD and for the same price. No Way.

That's not curb rash. That's from changing the tires. They're an odd shape requiring a specific tire machine, This is the result of trying it with the wrong one. Curb rash on these wheels is always towards the middle of the spoke because they protrude outwards
Damn Scotty was having so much fun with this car!! I think it's time you rewarded yourself for 50 years of hard work! Go ahead and buy one of these monsters 😁
Jude Martin Arsulo I wish he does, but he won't, because he is utterly cheap....he will leave his millions to the heirs...luck them, they will inherit EVERYTHING, including the Celica!
It's because if the owner drives hard the tires on these cars wear out fast, I believe they only have a 8 to 10k lifespan thus more wear on the paint when changing out tires.
Actually you don't but the cost of maintenance and survival in life does slap you in the face. You're forced to value reliability more than a teenager with no expenses because of the high cost of living. So you might go from wanting a 800 hp turbo LS powered car to a stock, but high end and nice, affordable and reliable car -- like an s2000 or Civic Type R. Other popular options include the Toyota FRS, Subaru STI, Toyota Corolla, 4Runner, Civic Hatches, R35 GTR's and things like this. The dream of lambos and 2jz Supras disappear unless you become rich in that case you never outgrow the unreliable fast car craze you just keep buying newer crazier crap.
An amazing vehicle. Here is an interesting fact about it. On the window sticker for this car is a disclaimer that the tire life is likely to less than 10,000 miles. One report of someone getting 8,000 miles from the tires. The tires lose traction when temperature is under 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The tires can crack when exposed to cold temperatures. For cold climates you need to put on all season tires and preferably spare wheels when it gets cold. The factory tires are 30 series and essentially racing tires.
@@trevorhsu-mdh-5684 yeah the Type R has a gear grind issue when you change from 1st to 2nd, but you'll only feel the crunch when you're pushing it really hard, but as a normal street car it'll be very reliable the K20C1 used in the Type R is really good, but no Type R owner is gonna be light on the car so they might feel the crunch😂
There are plenty of fun cars that don't require a payment. My daily driver is a 2006 SS Impala. That 5.3 is a blast and you can pick them up for 3 to 5k.
Andrew Evanoff not true at all. My 2013 Accord has 105K mikes on then and nothing has broken or decreased function. Never needed anything but regular maintenance and a new battery
I’m personally waiting for Mazda’s next gen I6 Mazda6, that car looks like a potential stunner, I just hope they offer an AWD option as I live NorthEast US.
I have a civic coupe and a BMW 4 series..The Honda isn't even in the same league in handling, but I guess if you haven't driven a BMW you wouldn't know the difference...

_ ZAVALA it’s the first thing I look at when buying a car, I’ve had my 01 prelude for 15 years now and the rims still look new besides a few tiny rock chips, but they’re barely visible.
Lol my q40 would have a chance and it’s not even that fast at all. Type r isn’t made for straight line speed. But I’m glad you’ve liked it it’s a great car in its own right
We all know he's a domestic basher. He has a hard on for Honda and Toyota. It's not statistically true, its all in his head, but we watch him anyway and agree to disagree. My wife drives a 2012 Honda Civic, she wants to get rid of it now that she has about 100,000 miles on it and it keeps having stupid repairs here and there to keep it going. She followed all manufacturer repair instructions since she bought it new, and has Honda Dealers alone service it and always has. I have a Chevy Silverado with over 100,000 miles I bought new in 2009. I have no problems, I never used Chevy for maintenance, just my corner mechanic, I haven't even washed my truck in 5 years. I recently had to drive her to work several days while her Civic was in the shop. And her Civic cost more than my Silverado. I have a base series V6-4.3 liter white Work Truck, for $15,900 new. She paid $17,000 for her Civic new. Needless to say, she is now looking at GM, wanting to switch over to something more reliable.
Bret Z It's Interesting you say that, I'm nearing completion 50k with my Civic now with no real maintenance needs. What stupid repairs are you talking about? I'm curious bc if you're saying so it might happen to my car as well
As a Civic owner, I have a love/hate relationship with this car. I think it’s an engineering marvel. Right out of the factory it’s a blast. But that’s just it, factory, OEM, stock. This isn’t one of those cars you can modify and make your own. Like Scotty said, everything in this car has a purpose. If you change almost anything, you mess up it’s perfectly tuned formula. I own a 9th gen 2015 Civic si FB6. I love the thing because I can upgrade/tweak/tune it myself. Civic’s have always been this way, and have a strong aftermarket. For example, 90% of the Si you encounter on the road will be modified. It’s arguably the best part of owning one and truly the best way to experience owning a Civic IMO. TLDR: •Buy the Civic Type R if you prefer a complete, no hassle track/street weapon. •Buy any other Si to create your own fully customizable track/street weapon. (P.s. Any civic with a K20/k24 engine, either stock or K-swapped with good modification has the potential to blow the doors off a Type R. These engines are essentially the “people choice” for 4-Cylinder tuning engines and have more R&D from tuners than almost any other engine of their class.)
The 2.0T Accord has the same engine detuned to about 250HP; it uses smaller turbo that spools a bit faster, and the torque develops at lower RPM, so it's more suited to normal driving but still has quite a bit of power. If you're looking for something moderately sporty but a bit more practical and comfortable for daily driving than the Type R, it's worth a look.
Scotty: never buy turbocharged cars! Scotty: modern cars have way too much electronic and plastic crap!.. Proceeds to endorse electronic features, plastic aerodynamic parts and turbocharged engine.
there is a difference between some plastic aerodynamics bodywork crap and plastic engine components that have no business being plastic like intake manifolds and water pumps.
In addition to a tornado-siren, I'm wondering if your neighborhood has a Scotty-siren. When it goes off, make sure your kids are nowhere near the road - Scotty is about to test drive a car !
I think its safe to say Scotty is a fan of Honda's. I am too, I swear by them, they make the best cars out there and small engines you can buy. I have a Honda Accord and a Honda Fourtrax and a honda lawn mower haha!
I am a fan of Honda as a company too! I have a 03 Pilot with 190000 miles, 05 450X motorcycle, and a 27 year old Honda Harmony lawnmower that never takes more than 3 pulls to start. All have been great machines.
@@TheTheAdministratoryno doubt. Bought all of them new except the Pilot. It had 17000 miles on it when we bought it. My neighbors thought I was nuts when I paid $400 for the Honda lawnmower 27 years ago. They have been through two or three lawnmowers by now.
Bought brand new 2014 civic si red sedan 9th gen. It's 140k miles now, no issues at all, I drive a lot for work. Never had any problems, just regular oil change maintenance. Still drives like the first time i got it off the lot at 9miles on the meter. Just washed her today cuz its nice out. Forgot to say, was so happy with the reliability, bought a brand new 2018 civil si red sedan for my wife. Hers is even better gets 40mpg, and the turbo torque is much better than my 9th gen. I was planning to buy the type r but sadly at that time they were marked at 50k, so we went with the si.
Love it that this review was done in Houston- and your inspection sticker was 4/20. Anyways most people won’t understand this car. But I had a 1998 Civic EX. 1.6 liter n/a and put a cold air and exhaust back in 2000, and then we all wanted to get to 200whp. So I think in today’s standard most laugh at 306whp, but for Honda owners they know how much tuning has to be done to these small displacement motors to get those results and appreciate Honda for giving it to the purist.

As a type R owner and not having watched the video yet I can tell you the R is practical & fun in all the right ways. I absolutely love the car and would 10/10 recommend it. With some nice all seasons or decent winter tires, the car had no issues in feet of NY snow either.

I absolutely Love my Type-R. Definitely bought it to use it for it's full potential. So glad that this is going to be a durable long term car for me

Scotty Kilmer, the last person I expected to be giving justice to the visual design of the type R. Can't wait to own one someday.
TLDR:
•Buy the Civic Type R if you prefer a complete, no hassle track/street weapon.
I'll drive a chevy
Value goes up when it was Scotty certified!
