If anyone is wondering, because there was 0 mention of it in this video presentation this is "The First Presbyterian Church" and has been in downtown Tampa since 1884.
It’s a little ironic the monorail station being torn apart. I remember when I was a kid and it was new around 1994. The whole concept of the airport was as little walking as possible so it’ll be different having moving walkways there.
If there were still real action movies the TIA parking garage would have made a cool set with cars crashing through the glass or shooting around the monorail.
Next time you’re in the Tampa area you should reach out to PAW Demo. Big name for Tampa area and does a lot. The owner Rick is an amazing man. I work on the material side of the company since 2015.
I was in the long term parking garage today, and seeing all the old monorail infrastructure gone was so depressing. I understand why it closed (The monorail was in need of costly upgrades and it had extremely low ridership, so it wasn't worth fixing), but that doesn't make it any less depressing.
Pretty interesting. I made quite a bit of trips down the side walk they had along the rails knowing full well what was about to happen to it... guess that came a lot earlier than expected. Thank you for this video.
I work for one of the biggest union demolition companies in Washington state. Too bad you didn't come see us. We have high reach excavators 100+ ft . We do full building demolition, selective demolition, bridge demolition, interior gutting for remodeling, asbestos removal, led removal, concrete cutting ,and concrete polishing. The company I work for loves challenges.
I live in Tampa FL for 36 years and I used to ride the monorail at Tampa airport when I took my grandparents there. I will miss the monorail a lot that is the thing injoy ride their said it's gone.
Yes, walkways are nice but parking is expensive. They could reduce parking if they have good public transit through the Florida area that connects to the airport.
The US is the only country that has people movers at just every airport. Elsewhere, the norm is to either connect the airport with a train, or a metro. The extra transfer just makes the whole experience worse.
I live in Tampa and know there are terminals that haven’t been in use since Eastern Airlines, parking garages that the trams go through that also haven’t had cars in for years. And they keep building new areas. They have been finding tunnels in old Tampa and Ybor city even though due to the foundations and water levels we can’t have real basements. (Written before watching full vid).
I did the structural steel to that area not long ago. And they were putting I new monorail track. What a waste of money. Could be a different area not to sure though.
Man, that church was spooky... you believe in ghosts?
I LIVE HERE! love the TPA remodel, and so happy to see preservation downtown!!! It looks great!! Yall did a great job!

What? I work at TPA; none of that is true.
Would the city even allow it to be tore down or they don't have a say either way?
