I use the Rapid 225 and Blue Line from Otay Ranch Mall Station to get to the VA La Jolla for my healthcare, and I love not having to fight the traffic to do so. (The Rapid 225 saved me over $2,000 in tolls and gas in 2019 when I rode it every day to work in Balboa Park.) Given the unbridled growth that Chula Vista has allowed (and continues to allow) in the Otay Ranch / Eastlake area, it would be great if one day there was a trolley line that served that area.
I would say an Airport trolley link will require the new Terminal 1 to be built. New Terminal 1 has space for a transit link either Trolley or a People mover. Airport Authority has shown renderings of a people mover alongside the new Terminal 1 project. SANDAG scrapped NAVWAR for the Airport but I think they are going with a people mover that connects to a station near the Rental Car Center that could also connect to a near by transit station next to the Trolley tracks. Though plans can and will likely change.
