For the first time in preservation, NG134 moved under its own steam this afternoon. - Am y tro cyntaf o ran cadwraeth, symudodd NG134 o dan ei nerth ei hun y prynhawn yma.
If twenty or so years go someone had said to me "We're going to get that loco running again" I'd have laughed at them. Well, today I'm grinning to see that I was wrong, and she's moving under her own power 🙂
the Ffestiniog and Welsh highland certainly work miracles, Like , nobody thought an over 150 year old Hulk who hadn't run for 80 years would ever steam again, yet in 2020, after 7 years of Extensive rebuilding, that engine ran again (If you don't know what i meant, i was using Welsh Pony as an example)
@@TheSudrianTerrier653I remember Welsh Pony sat outside Harbour station in the 90s when you used to be able to climb on it and have a look, I never thought that train would be restored, and oh how amazing it is to see it steaming along the railway now. Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland are amazing at what they do.
Congratulations on a magnificent restoration. She looks fantastic! It's so good to see another Ng15 in service. Our own Ng, no. 123, shouldn't be far off re-entering service either.
After seeing her in her original state sitting behind the platform at Dinas on my first trip on the WHR some years back I am thrilled to see her moving. I hope she'll be in service soon.
5:52; over on the right of the screen is my friend David Oates, one of the guys who helped with the restoration of this engine. If you're watching this, Dave, then congratulations on the efforts you and the Welsh Highland Railway have put into bringing No. 134 back to life. It's really exciting to see her in action at long last.
Had three trips behind the Apple Express from Port Elisabeth in the late 70's and 80's. Also did the complete system out of Port Elisabeth with the Railway Society of South Africa Special. Also remember chasing them along the line, they were retired rather nifty and it was rather difficult to keep up as they could get up to 50MPH! Wel done for getting her running again, hope i can get up next year and see her.
She looks absolutely lovely! Well done to everyone involved in her restoration. I remember seeing her as a hulk in the yard at Dinas several years ago, but to see her now like this is just brilliant :)
Fantastic .... just FANTASTIC. Congratulations to ALL who made this sight possible. I've been following every update since they were first posted on You Tube ... and a bit before that on Barrie H's website. Boy, that beastie looks the part! Can't wait to see if the NG15 reputation holds good on RhE. I hope the lack of a tender cab won't detract from the footplate staff's experience. So .... when does 133 get to move under cover?
That is a beautiful sight to behold. Sadly I can’t make superpower so won’t see her and I had hoped 134 was going to be on The Snowdonian 2 this year but K1 will be good enough for me. Hope to be on a train next year. A massive congratulations to all the team whom have worked so hard to get 134 back into steam.
What a beauty she is, finally running again. One more reason to make a trip to Wales soon. Sadly the original and typical boxy tender shape isn't retained, but I understand that the shape of the new tender body was designed in order to have good visibility when running in reverse as the locomotive can't be turned at Caernarfon.
If that's the case, I'm surprised it doesn't have a weather shield on the tender, like on the BR standards... anyway, it's a smasher alight and I'm pleased its finally out and about.
@@michaelpowell3980 The original tender CAD drawings on the project website do show a shield with windows at the front of the tender. It might have been designed to be retrofitted later.
As pretty as it is, from the time I first heard of the idea of an NG15 on the WHR I've pondered the wisdom of a tender loco on the WHR. For a loco that will spend 50% of its time running tender first, I reckon they'll quickly rig up a tarpaulin the close the back of the cab ...

@@TheSudrianTerrier653Dunno about you, but I still can't believe "Palmerston" made it back into steam before "Welsh Pony"!

It's already in the plans - that's what they did so that's what we'll do 🙂
Beauty!
great job!
Makes a nice change from the Garrats
Is this in Wales or Sth Africa with is WHR
The Welsh Highland Railway is in North Wales. It uses locomotives that worked in South Africa.
