I got the SoundBar for $1,200 bundled with my TV and it's my First Sound Bar ever.. I'm sure I'll love it since I haven't had one before!
How has the experience been so far?
I'd like to hear your review. I've had a $50 walmart soundbar for 2 years. It's a little better than my TV speakers. Would love to hear your input
I bought it and I am still impressed. No cutting issues ever
Really like your reviews. You cover the audiophile side as well as the general consumer and how each may or may not like that product. Great job once again.
I bought this setup after hearing it in a store and being very impressed. At home it just sounds incredible.
Craig Thomas you don’t have any problems with the rear speakers breaking up? I’m trying to decided between the Q80 with no surrounds and the Q90 with the surrounds.
James Adkins III that issue has been fixed with an update. It works perfectly now 👍
which subwoofer hits better, Subwoofer Q90r or swa-w700?
Swa700 certainly.
mình vừa test trên kênh samsung q90r vs 1 cặp dalton group lại 1600w x2 mọi người cho đánh giá nha
Well done u didn't run ur mouth to much very informative and hooked us up with a great demo. Finally someone that isn't just getting 15 min of fame. My hats off to u cuz.
I had that same connection issue with my surround speakers for my sound bar as well. You have to change your WiFi frequency channel. Just contact your internet provider to do it. Once I did that I had no issues.
Great review as usual I really appreciate all the in depth critiques that you do it builds trust in your viewers which I very much appreciate. Keep it up be safe/healthy.
Picked this up on a sale for 850 bucks. Gets here next week. Can’t wait!
From where?
How are the rear speakers powered? Battery? How long do they last? Are they rechargeable or replaceable?
Thank you Shane for the review! The return of the "crackle monster" as I call it. This is the same problem I had with the HW-K950, except the HW-K950 did it on ALL sources, including bluray. And if what you were listening to on the HW-K950 just so happened to be in DTS (which most of my blurays are), it paired down the audio signal to 2.0 stereo!!! Even after the firmware update, which was supposed to bump everything to 5.1 at least, it never worked.
The crackle thing is still a bit worrisome, even if it only effects streaming content. It doesn't sound like Samsung has worked out all of the bugs of a surround soundbar system yet. Their second attempt is better, but I think I'm going to hold off to see if they can get it totally right on a possible third attempt.
Thanks again for the review! You just saved me a good chunk of change (spare change)!

I chose the Nakimachi 9.2.4. Sound bar system. Its amazing! I have no regrets on buying the Nakimachi over the Q90R. The Q90R is impressive especially that huge front bar but I wanted a more immersive sound all around you and the Nakimachi gives that to you. Two two 10 inch subs is powerful but not overwhelming. You can’t really tell where the sub sound is coming from since it’s from both sides. The four rear and side speakers 🔊 🔊 🔊 🔊 can create that illusion of sound all around you. My friend has the Q90R and I’m kind if jealous I can’t have both. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 still no regrets.
Having a hard time finding this soundbar as it was last years model. A friend who's a salesman said he would give me the 950T for about 1400 cad but I've read that its not as good. I found an open box q90r for 1200cad. Do you think that's a good deal still?
I currently have an old Dolby Digital EX AMP AND SEPARATE speakers. I want to upgrade to ATMOS but my wife isn’t keen on wires. I have always resisted sound bars but this looks very powerful. Am I going to be disappointed when I compare this to my old separate system?
Nakamichi Shockwafe 9.2.4 SSE is the best, IMO. It comes with 2 subs and 4 surround sound speakers, and is 1000w rated. It is badass
I have this system with a Q90R 65" and it's great when you have a 4k blu ray with Atmos, but you don't notice much with standard 5.1 content on Netflix or other streaming sites. Though I can say it is much clearer than standard tv speakers in every situation. I never turn my tv over volume 25, and it goes up to 100. I can't imagine what that sounds like.
Which soundbar just generally sounds good? Meaning for music, gaming, in general watching videos like RUclips, etc. I won't be watching DTS/Dolby Atmos films all the time so I at least want a soundbar that can do the other things good too since I will spend more time with those media.
So what is the "correct way" to set up the surround speakers should the front and rear low speakers be around + 2 or lower and High speakers set to +4 or more ? Will the Atmos demo disk you use help with calibration ? By the way I have this soundbar with a QE75Q950R Screen and there is zero drop out on the wireless speakers so they have clearly fixed this issue.
Have you tried the Samsung Q950t soundbar (this years model) yet? If you have what do you think, is there much of a difference between the Q90r, and the Q950t? Can you properly place the audio, or I should say, do things happening on the left actually sound like it’s happening on the left? Or is it more generic, where you should hear things on the side, and things in the center, and is the bass good, or is it kind of weak?
Exchanged the Sony St-5000 i recently purchased for this new Samsung unit. This was dont yesterday and with the short amount of time ive had to play with it ive been extremely impressed. The Sony st-5000 was a great soundbar but at my place I was having a very hard time hearing the voices come in clearly. With this new unit and the additional back speakers I'm not having this same issue. The main center bar is crisp, loud and clear. im excited to continue messing with the settings of the soundbar system as im impressed for only having it in use for a day thus far. So far this thing is a beast!
@Daniel. How is the soundbar after the last few days? I am torn between the HTST5000 and the Q90R. Unfortunately my local shops don't have them on display.
stephen jones it’s amazing! Sounds like a movie theater in the house. Working well for me so far
@@grinch65 thanks for the reply. I went for the sony as am not sure I could place the rears because of my room setup. Looking forward to hearing the sony atmos.
hey, great video. i just got the Q90R soundbat - its great. I didn't even set it correctly yet. I'm using the soundbar only - the back speakers are not connected yet.
My question - did the DTS x demo sound come with box? mine didn't.
How do i set the sound correctly? tnx
I cracked, I found it sold for 999€ instead of 1500€, I couldn't resist! What a sound, I am absolutely conquered by my purchase, everything works perfectly! It changes me from my tiny 2.1 samsung sound bar that I had before. Santa Claus came a bit late, but I don't blame him too much... :D
How's does this compare to the new JBL bar 9.1 soundbar? I heard great reviews for that thing.
Where do you get the demo discs and why don't they sell them in stores? A disc should be in the box when you buy one of these things.
You're right, but there are some websites like demolandia and the digital theatre that make you download all sound tests without compression
How to play it
@@rin360lew4 ?
Are those Martin Logan slms?
Do you just use your soundbar as a center channel?
So overall do you prefer this over the LG sn11rg?
I am looking to buy the QA85Q80 85" Qled and matching with the HW-Q90 sound bar.
My question is can you add more wireless speaker to this soundbar?
I was thinking of getting the SWA-9000S/XY as side atmos speakers.
What is your suggestion please?
Also I have an old SAMSUNG system with wireless rear speakers SWA-5000 would these connect to the Q90 soundbar ? And utilise them.
Thanks
Todd
Never going back to sound-bar/HTIB again.happy with my 3.1 HT setup.
Sir, I want some clarification Atmos sound bar is best or Atmos av receiver will good. Which will perform good sound quality. If it's av is best then which brand can I chose Onkyo 7.2 with thx or pioneer 9.2
Great review! Thank you.
I would like more focus on dialogue when reviewing soundbars and surround sound in general.
I noticed in the description that you listed 3d glasses, how do those work I thought 3d TV'S/projectors were discontinued? So do they work with any TV'S then?
Hello just came across your great channel and wanted ask quick advice as wanting to update my TV for New Year 2020 and like to use this Q90R soundbar with it ( not purchased yet ) .Just wanted to ask is Samsung or LG TV's best? Thinking of 60" / 65" maximum size to use in UK . Hopefully you can give me some ideas please, many thanks Peter.
This is the most honest review video I've seen on RUclips on this same product for that reason I subscribe only to your channel thank you, I was looking to upgrade my Logitech z906 there's a pros and cons to everything product out there, I was looking for a soundbar or speakers that you get that Heights speaker sound from the roof but thanks to your review, what put me off about the SAMSUNG Q90R Soundbar is the bass No Bass hardly bass don't get me wrong I do want speakers to just sound clear, but also I want bass also when you're watching and listening to gunshots in films you want power to hear that thunder bass thanks a lot you save me so money not purchasing this product, I've had so many different surround speakers in the past over the years so I know what I'm looking for I'm going to stick with my Logitech z906 for now because of the base and power and loudness until I see something new that comes on the market where I get the roof sound speakers sound I'm going to keep my Logitech. The only thing that disappoint me about the SAMSUNG Q90R Soundbar is the lack of bass, you do get the roof sound with the SAMSUNG Q90R Soundbar but the bass is not really there for me so I will give it a miss for that reason!
It does has base but it depends on the source.....
@@DarkKnight-gi5vd ok king thanks and happy new year lol
Welcome and happy new year to you too!
How does it play DolbyA and DTSx through a Samsung tv like the Q9Fn? The Q9fn doesn't have eARC and doesn't support atmos, but yet they say this soundbar was made to pair with their QLED line?
which do you like better, LG sl10yg or SAMSUNG hw-90?
I'm about to buy a house and I'm gonna have to switch to a soundbar solution. I'm currently running 5.1.2. I am down to choosing either this bar or the Nakamichi 9.2.4. I would love to know your take on that bar vs.this one.
What Samsung tv will be the best tv to match the q90r ? I recently purchased the Q90R sound bar and want the perfect tv to match. I have a 60inch Samsung led that i purchased a few yrs ago , it's not 4k uhd tho... I am after something around 70 to 75 inch. I would appreciate some advice due to the recent Q90R sound bar I have and very impressed with??
Check out their Q series of TV’s. Be a perfect match.
Should I connect all my game consoles to sound bar or should I connect them directly to tv? I have q90 TV and q90 sound bar plus PS4, XBox X, Apple TV 4K best result
Did the interference between the rear speakers and wifi router ever get completely fixed? I'd like to buy this setup, but my rear speakers has to be within 3 feet of my router..
Have you tried the Bose 300 with rear speaker and sub ? How would they compare? I do have the Bose setup but got interested in the Samsung due to Atmost. Worth the change? Thanks
Shane I have a question: I have Rane THX22 x2 & Rane THX44 equalizers for all 7 channels with a Rane RA-30 real time Spectrum analizer.
My concern is I've spent a very long time sourcing these products to build a reference system that can recreate that pro THX cinema sound in the home. Some of the newer processors from Anthem, Emotiva etc have in built eq's. Do I disregard my gear? Or do I disregard the inbuilt EQ's? Or do I use both internal and external? What do you think is the best option to get the perfect sound? I really appreciate your knowledge and experience and respect your opinion, thanks Shane for your time.
How did you test Dolby Atmos on the soundbar, since ARC does not support Dolby Atmos?
I have a 4K Blu-Ray player, plus a 4K TV (LG Nano Cell 2019), plus sound bar; however, I cannot get the connection correct to get the Dolby Atmos (even as the Soundbar is displaying Dolby Atmos.
Any help is appreciated.
I have to recommend the Definitive Technology Studio Advance or the older W studio(W studio had HDMI 1.4 the advance has 2.0 otherwise mostly the same) sound bar. They don’t support Atmos or DTS X but the sound quality is superior to many sound bars I’ve tried. The sub woofer is the star of the set up. It can get real low but is not bloated like most sound bar subs. I would love to see you review one to hear what you think.
Question Which would you buy Lg 55 inch oled C9 is priced at $1,799.99 or xbr55A9G priced at $2799 or samsung 55 inch q80r ?
Is there any fix yet to the sound keeps breaking at times? I have updated to the latest firmware. But still experiencing the same. I noticed specially when there are continuous sound/music from the movie.
Details:
- Streaming on Netflix title: Work It (dolby atmos)
- Using samsung Curved TV RU7300
Issue: sound keeps breaking specially when continuous music is playing
Please help. Thanks!
10:07 I'm hoping/waiting for this issue to be completely resolved. Even though this set would be perfect for my QN75Q7 TV, I haven't purchased the soundbar because of these issues.
I have a question. I have a Samsung Atmos HW-K950 Soundbar with the Subwoofer and rear speakers. Is it possible to connect a second subwoofer to it?
I've never had those connection issue and I've had mine for 7 months.
Has to be interferce like you said.
I love this sound bar system. Decent price and no hassles.
I have the n950 and I had the same issues when streaming, I had to move my route a bit closer due to interference and it did help alot.
@@jjguillen65 i have wall Cat 6 that might be why i haven't experienced it. sometimes the sound might be off, or turns off when i watch youtube but simply just cycling to HDMI 2 back to your input it fixes it.
@@leighagnello7993 I will switch mine to HDMI 2.
It just got released a month ago.
@@5324TuiG the N950 is last years model that im refering to. exactly the same besides sub is minor + eARC and a new mode
Hi, how are you....what do you think about Nakamishi 9.2.4 what is better....because I dont know which buy it....
Does this soundbar pass through Dolby Vision HDR content? I read on the internet that some people have problems with this. The reason I ask this is because I'm planning to buy a soundbar for under my Sony X950G. One of the reasons I bought this tv is that it has Dolby Vision HDR instead of HDR10+. Maybe this soundbar has problems passing through Dolby Vision because it is a Samsung soundbar and Samsung does not support Dolby Vision? That would be unfortunately though, in reviews this soundbar comes up as one of the best. I also wonder how this soundbar compares to the Yamaha YSP-2700. I can't find good reviews or comparisons of the Yamaha on channels like this one on youtube or sites like rtings.
10:19 - just bought this Samsung HW-Q90R. Was this satellite connectivity issue fixed? I too have a WiFi Mesh (Netgear Orbi) and don’t want this issue when streaming movies. This will be a deal breaker for me.
Is it worth paying 800€ for it in Europe or should I look for anything else?
Quick question... would you recommend I plug in each electric part in order for the purposes of easy pairing up speakers, subwoofer with the soundbar. example: plug in surround speakers first then, Subwoofer and finally the soundbar?
You mean “switch on”?
no wonder that the rear disconnects. You updated the soundbar but you need to repeat procedure for the rears and sub with a different remote button press sequence. At least only show on video the soundbar being updated, samsung is not clear on this. I had some disconects but once i updated both soundbar and rears+subs its fine and glorious.
I was settled on this speakers once I tested them out. You have to hear it in person. They sound really really good. But that "cutting in and out" is giving me second thoughts.
Good review
Hi can you do Review Jbl 9.1 ? Do you think its Better to samsung ?
I'm not sure if you'll see this but im having trouble updating is the soundbar doesn't read the usb.
Hello Shane. I know you made this video months ago and hoping I can elicit a response from you. I just received my 82" Samsung Q90r television and I am completely torn between going with the simplicity of this sound bar or if I should go balls deep and get on-wall speakers like I noticed in your video. Is that what you use?? If money isn't the issue what do you think? Also what am i looking at? My guess are the Martin Logan sml xl. I know Klipsch and Definitive tech also make on-wall. Your help in making me decide is appreciated!
Get the SLM XL and call it a day.
Hi, Sparechange I just want to know if you know about Nakamishi Shokwave 9.2.4 Soundbar if is really good and is better then this Samsung Q90R because I can't decide why buy it....thanks alot....
The wireless rear/sub disconnection issue was present on both units I tried. Firmware update 1008 fixed it for me. The only other issue I have is the audio sync adjustment only goes up in positive ms increments, not negative. It’s not a fault of the soundbar per se but paired with an Xbox One X there is very noticeable audio and lip sync delay with bitstream audio (required for Dolby Atmos) that can’t be adjusted for.
How does the speakers are working??? Is there any charging require for those satellite speakers??? If those are recharging, how we know that the battery going down?? Please tell me.
No battery. All speakers need to be in a socket.
I am curious about the input power. In the video, there is no power brick, does this imply that the soundbar can only accept only 110v or both 110v and 220v power ? Also , does the subwoofer draw power from the soundbar ?
Nope, soundbar, woofer and rears (X2) need seperately power input.
@@5324TuiG For the soundbar's own power input, is there an ac adapter or power brick? If yes, are you able to share what is the input voltage specs of the ac adapter?
Question...is there a difference on how high you mount the wireless speakers ...is it the higher you mount then the better it sounds in the room (living room) in my case.
Ear height would be best.
The Q90R is basically Harmon / Kardon, just like Transformers, robots in disguise.
You should review the Nakamichi Shockwafe Ultra 9.2.4Ch 1000W Dolby Atmos Soundbar
Can I use the Nakamichi soundbar with a yahama av780 receiver? I believe the Nakamichi has an amplifier. Since the Nakamichi soundbar has an amplifier isn't it more for people with out and AV Reciever?
great review shane. i'm still looking for that great soundbar. question about the side firing speakers, are those meant to bounce off the wall as well? not sure if i would get that effect due to my open living room configuration. i may still pick these up and give them a try.
Does side firing speakers do make a big difference when your on 7.1.4
the only thing missing in the video is playing movies and you giving your thoughts on those scenes like you did with other sounders, other then that good review
Maybe it has something to do with copyright...
I have this sound bar and I use it primarily for gaming. However, I’m torn between Surround and Game Pro mode. Surround upmixes ALL the audio to 7.1.4; Game Pro doesn’t really do any upmixing. Can I use Game Pro and turn Virtual on to upmix that? I can’t seem to find any info on sound modes and the Virtual option, at all. Suggestions/advice?
Brother your comments are true. There is a truth in your message. Thank you
What do you mean by "careful with subwoofer levels?" I have mine set to 6. Can you blow them up by having them loud?
Dang. I have mine on 3....sometimes I will bump up to 4. You must really like bass. What about other settings? Where do you have them?
I have the N950, which is almost identical, in an area with weak WiFi reception and never had any rear speaker dropouts until I put a Netgear Orbi in the room next to it. Now I get constant dropouts.
So thanks for the tip. Now we just need a solution.
Cody Konior perhaps change the frequency of the router? See if that helps
Does the sub have to sit to the right of the tv stand since the speaker appears to be on the right of the sub as opposed to downward firing like most other bars?
Which is better for (netflix, music) samsung hw-q90r or sonos playbar + sub+2 play1?
Can u please tell me what were your EQ level settings for each speaker? Please and Thank u
JUST SUBSCRIBED! I just bought this soundbar last week and it's awesome. Still trying to figure a good movie to watch to get the best performance. I'm coming from a Klipsch soundbar. I been looking at the Nakamichi 9.2 ch soundbar but jumped the gun on the Samsung because it was available in my BestBuy and the Nakamichi wasn't. I still have 11 days to return the bar, but I'm really happy so far. I know the Nakamichi has 2 extra side speakers so it should sound better and more power at 1000w should sound louder, but I have to say I haven't put the Samsung Q90R soundbar over 25 which goes to 100, and I have an open floor plan. If you can please review the Nakamichi 9.2 ch soundbar to see the difference in your own opinion, as I've seen other RUclipsrs review them as well; Want to get more insight and you know what to look for. I've seen review on the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar, but at $2,500 is out of my range, but would like to know your opinion on this as well. Because from my research the (Samsung Q90R, Nakamichi 9.2, & the Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar) are the best soundbars on the market to handle Atmos/DTSX.
YOU MENTIONED WHAT FILM TO TRY YOUR SET WITH?SAVING PRIVATE RYAN 4KHDR AND SANN ANDREAS 4KHDR WITH THE ROCK?GOOD LUCK.😉👊
You say that you have an open floor plan. Does that mean that there isn't a wall nearby for the side firing speakers? If that's the case do you feel that you are still hearing/feeling the effects from these speakers?
Wow I am thoroughly surprised by how far sound bars have come! They are no longer a gimmick or stereo sounding! The addition of Atmos in the rear speakers is much appreciated. Strange how the sound kept cutting out though!
Ah come on did you see the price, its a total rip off, the up-firing atmos is still a gimmick and the sub is below par for the price and wireless surrounds are buggy.
For the same price you could get a decent 2.1 setup with receiver that would blow the socks of this soundbar with options to upgrade down the line.
Jimmy2Shoes Not... Really
@@jimmy2shoes75 Soundbars used are extremely good for the price. I got my Q90R (3 years later of course, but still) for only $330. A little banged up, but extremely worth the price, way better (in my opinion) than buying a 2.1 setup for about the same price.
What is the best Soundbar ,,combo,, to buy? I'm between Samsung hw Q90r and Bose 700 with Bass Module 700 and 700 Rear Speakers.
Most tests telling Samsung is better, but they just testing the Bose Soundbar 700 without Bass Module and Rear Speakers. And is Dolby Digital on Bose sounding less then Dolby Atmos on Samsung?
I need help please :)
I got a LG B9 55'' TV
Samsung sounds better. Bose is more reliable.
I’m confused, are the surround speakers wireless as well? Or just the sub woofer is wireless but not the surround speakers?
@Cliff Chung Its all wireless mate.
Angel Overlord Thanks Angel, I bought it and it is pretty amazing soundbar, I’m totally loving it
hi Cliff Chung. have you figured out the calibration yet. i just bought yesterday. many thanks.
How do you get the bar to display the output (4:29) or does it only display when it’s DTS:X? It doesn’t show Dolby Digital.
What soundbar would you pair with a 65 lg oled Not wall mounted
Excellent video. On another subject, do you have plans to review or audition the new ‘Sennheiser Ambeo bar’? Thank you
Why is this called Q90R everywhere else but Q96R where I live? (Norway) Is there any difference?
I've heard with this soundbar and samsung Q90R (matching TV) it can do 7.1.4 via ARC is this test done via ARC or have you had to run seperate player through soundbar's HDMI?
After doing some research it appears 7.1.4 ARC is not yet supported.. however via ARC it can still decode at bitstream Dolby Digital at 1.5Mbps (DD+) and decode the full DTS (1.5mbps) so you're still getting CD quality crystal clear surround sound if you do connect it via this method. It can also do lossless PCM at 5.1ch as well so your player can decode and send out pure PCM uncompressed however most audiofiles will advise against this as bitstream is best for sound and volume's sake as well as limiting and compressing the LFE subwoofer channels from distoring or appearing too bassy or not bassy enough. There is also a sound mode on this soundbar package that can upconvert from 5.1ch sources to 7.1.4 however it's simulated and algorithms based which is still really great if you want to use up all speakers to their advantage in this sense which personally I would do but everyone is different. Either way however you connect your sources this is a great sounding soundbar and defnitely one over the great sounding bose 700 full system. let's face it this is made in conhunction with Harman/Hardon and AKG so it's not a cheap soundbar from a cheap manufacturer the price for the great build quality is only possible thanks to samsung's take over of those companies.
Good choice to go with the Q90R tv ?
Yes
@@therealshanelee Better choice than the Sonos Play 1 bundle you think ?
Yes unless you plan on doing multi room audio.
@@therealshanelee Its only for one room :) Thx for the info
SpareChange pairing the sound bar with a Samsung TV do you still need to use the HDMI cable from bar to TV ? Reason I’m asking I have the Samsung Q90 and the one box will not be next to the tv.
Please do a review of sonos arc with surrounds and sub comparing hw-Q90R
Okay I understand it cutting out maybe that could be fixed in the future but the subwoofer bottoming out seriously. At this price point it's ridiculous. They could have made a replica of the Dayton audio sub-1200 for the soundbar and still make plenty of profit off the Soundbar.
Compared to last year model HW-N950, what the difference other than the price and Alexa?
Any sound quality upgrade?
Does it sound same when you watch Movie in blu Ray and Netflix

Same stuff essentially
Hello, is the HW-Q90R exactly the same as the HW-Q80r with the rear speakers added?
No. The rear speakers on the q90r are bigger and they are also up firing speakers as well.
Still got my old K950. Best advice for disconnecting sub and rear speakers/ Bluetooth problems is to get some ferrite rings for all power cords. Best update you can have for that model atleast. For me, disconnecting problems have been a cut a least 70%
So what does that do for it?
@@bretts9409Ferrite rings reduce electric noise that keeps disconnecting bluetooth etc.
