I have no idea how many rays me and my family let go or didn't keep over the years in PC Florida. We never cooked one. After watching you fillet and cook yours I realize what a mistake I made all those 45 plus years. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us. I really enjoyed the video.
Thank you for watching and commenting means a lot. Ray is very good to eat. Give one a try. Then let me know what you think. Subscribe to the channel if you are willing.
Thanks for the video. I caught a few stingrays out of the Rappahannock river about 8 miles up from the mouth to the Chesapeake bay. I tried to grill the first one like a croaker fish with just salt and pepper. Didnt really turn out that good. The second one I took back in the kitchen and fried it in bacon grease. That one wasn't bad. I didnt take the skin off and it seemed to have a slight muddy taste. Later on I read something about parging or boiling the wing for just a minute or 2 and this makes it easy to get the skin off. Then you're supposed to fry it. I think I will try this next time. My mouth was watering watching you guys eat that ray!!
Thank you for watching and commenting, means a lot. Please Subscribe to the channel if you already have not. Trying to get to a 1000 subs. Got to fillet the skin of the Rays. They are in the shark family and pee through there skin. Rays are fun to catch, and it helps if you like eating them. I only keep the ones on the bigger side. Hard to get enough meat off the small ones.
My Cuz(lives in N Miami Beach in Florida) told me about them, I didn't believe her at all when she said they're comparable to scallops.... After watching this video, I definitely WILL be trying rays next time I'm down there to see for myself
the scallop is underneath the jaw line of the stingray. looks like a white gland. that is the scallop they are talking about. not the filet of the stingray. Hope that helps.
Never heard that before. But on the next one, I will research that. Stingray is still very good to eat weather it taste like scallops or not. Thank you for watching and commenting. Subscribe if you are willing.
Love how you did it fried, try flour and 4 TBSP of seasoning mixed in for every cup of flour before the eggwash then go to the panko Italian, makes a thicker crust. The way y'all did it is good too it's how I do it too, but try the dry wet dry method.
Thank you for watching and commenting means a lot. I will definitely give that a try. Going to be making another ray catch and cook soon. Please Subscribe if you are willing.
@@TROPHY-HUSBAND sure did, I can give you an amazing tempura beer batter recipe too if y'all go catch some cats for me :) I can't where I live, don't trust the water here too much farming and fertilizer everywhere.
A few yrs back here on Tx Gulf Coast, an Asian place was using a 1" pipe and a mallet to pop out perfect lil "scallops".....they got caught but not for yrs and yrs. This was back in the 70's
I am going to try to catch some different types of Rays and see if they taste different. I am also going to try the pipe and mallet thing . I hope it works Scallops are expensive and Delicious.
That is so true, everything around here has a limit and a season. He did make his fillets look a lot better than mine. That is fine I will let him clean all of them. LOL
If you steam it you can get more meat and the skin does taste like catfish/ salmon oily but good like the venison scallop/duck/shark/ swordfish like taste .
It is really good, I was surprised the first time I tried it. Fried it has a chicken type texture. But it taste better baked. I am going to try to grill or maybe smoke one. We just caught 3 but they were not big enough. Thank you for watching and commenting. Subscribe if you are willing.
You are correct, I didn't do such a good job on cleaning that Stingray. Going to do another ray catch clean and cook soon. Hopefully I will show a impressive knife skills on it.
I know salt is not expensive, but does it take a lot. Might try it on some catfish if I can find some this weekend. Thank you for commenting and pleas Subscribe
Dono how many rigs these rays have stolen from me, the big ones just drop like a rock and you can't pull em up. They're fun to fight but even more fun to eat.
Most people get angry catching this fish. Like you said great fighting fish. Caught a nice one from my Kayak and that thing towed me all over the Marsh. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Dang David.,.... tell me how you really feel.... 😂 You are correct I didn't do a good job cleaning this Ray. Going to do another video like this and try to make it look and taste like Scallops.

Rays are good, they don't taste like scallops. You need a big one to harvest enough meat. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Nice video man. I need to get some string ray content on my channel
It is one of the best tasting fish I have eaten. Just needs to be a big one to get a nice size fillet .
May not be a trophy fish but they are fun to test tackle
One of the best tasting fish I have eaten.
Very good video keep the good videos coming
That one turn out pretty good, still having some audio issues.
Nice work man
Thank you
The barbs do make a pretty interesting trophy

Lol he took his time had nicer chunks. Nice thing about em is no limit on em, and always in season.

That is a wide range of taste. Must be in the seasonings .....
Going to keep my next ray and try it cubed breaded and deep fried.

I catch a huge one yesterday
Needs to be a good size to get enough meat off of it. They are very good to eat.
They fight like a bull in the strong current
Fight like a Bull, and eat like a fish steak. One of my favorite fish to eat.
If your filets weren't so bad you could have made it more like scallops
So you are saying the shape of the filet will make it taste like a Scallop. That is a interesting concept.....
Trying your son clean ‘‘em next time l
What.....
Kill a 30 lb animal for a pound of meat .....almost seems cruel and not worth it....
