Tapa of the Pacific - Samoan Siapo

- In Samoa there are only a few women still practising this age old art form. Samoans call their tapa 'Siapo'. Two women on Upolu are carrying on the siapo tradition using the upeti board rubbing technique with tools handed down to them through the generations.
This video pays tribute to siapo artist Sylvia Hanipale who sadly passed away during the measles epidemic, leaving behind the legacy of her craft and her beautiful talent as a siapo maker in Samoa.

One word to describe this is "beautiful."
Sooo happy this tradition is still alive, even if it’s only the two of them! Malo and manuia!!
In our Samoan Class back in Leone Saint Theresa School. I was grateful to our Teacher bringing in a Master of Tapa, and showed us how it was made. I'll always remember that. 💯❤️
I just wanna give love hugs and kisses to all my Polynesian family out there at this time that are struggling or having a hard time just wanna say I love you all my brothers and sisters ....don't worry everything will be ok
Would love to see more of the work that goes into creating their masterpieces
