There are many people who are OCD about not wasting a single drop. I am not living in a desert, so not critical about getting every single drop. Having a simple way to harvest some water is just a bonus.
No OCD here. I need every drop I can get due to semi arid conditions here. When you are in a drought condition, you HAVE to save all you can. When my barrel gets rain, I fill as many jugs of water as I can from that barrel. One never knows when the next rain will come.

This is such an elegant solution. I went and got a 1.5 inch hole saw kit at Walmart got $8. Used a hose I already had. Thank you!

What size hose? What type of adapter is coming out of the 2" rain barrel cap?
Should be all inch and a half hose and 1.5 inch barb fitting.
How much leaks out when the hose is not in place?

Thats too high. The barrel wont ever stop being filled. It needs to be level.
The barrel is sealed so once the water fills to the top of the hose it stops and the water continues flowing down the rain spout
