I legit cried because this is the same across all states and countries. I will never forget my time for 6 years the trauma and loneliness. I was approached while in Wal Mart and two dudes from this church starting talking about God the mother and what not. I'm a Christian and I had never heard of this church until these guys approached me. I'm glad I found this video!
I'm here from Salford after being approached by WMSCOG members for a "5 minute presentation" which turned into a 2 hr discussion. As a Christian myself I was very suspicious of some of the things they were saying about "Heavenly Mother" using Bible verses way out of context. So here I am now, looking at cult videos on them hahaha

Same for me. I had a 45 minutes conversation and I was amazed on how this young lady was trying to justify her views taking scripture out of context
The same thing happened to me, but when I was approached, I was struck with a fearful unease in my spirit. I did not understand why because she was so kind. I looked up the church out of curiosity and found all this as a result. I believe it was the holy spirit warning and protecting me.
They spoonfeed you with love until you forget how to spoonfeed yourself. And when you forget to spoonfeed yourself and are so reliant on the spoonfeeder, thats when the spoonfeeder begins to manipulate and exploit you. Not so sure if people will understand this analogy.
I like this church and also like all member of this church, all members are very positive nature.

This is why young people should do research on the religions they walk into, I was a teen a few years ago and I did believe in a higher power but not the Christian God
I got approached by JWs, Mormons and WMSCOG. But I eventually decided to check out the Bible for the first time.

@@realalldway-raw4996 Hi there. As I mentioned in my comment, I was part of this cult. Also, there are tons of experts in the field of psychology that have defined what a cult is. I would suggest starting there but this is an example from Dr. Janja Lalich:
▪️The group displays an excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leader, and (whether he is alive or dead) regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law.
▪️Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.
▪️Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, or debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).
▪️The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should think, act, and feel (e.g., members must get permission to date, change jobs, or marry-or leaders prescribe what to wear, where to live, whether to have children, how to discipline children, and so forth).

Certainly better than preaching repetitive and robotic verses out of context while people look at you like “uh, what are you on…?” Or better than reading 24 page books written by “God” equivalent to a 3rd grade reading level… certainly better than falling asleep after eating high carb/fat food and nodding off while someone spews “heavenly family/earthly family” for the 40th time for a signature… great video- thank you, Harry. I find it disheartening to have invested 24 minutes of my time in viewing this documentary, purportedly distinguished by awards, which, upon closer examination, seem to be bestowed either by blind judges or within the confines of a film festival where it stands as the sole submission. The self-proclaimed accolade of "best international director" prompts me to inquire how many other international directors participated in this festival; alas, such information remains elusive.
This cinematic endeavor has eroded my faith in productions that lay claim to obscure film festival honors. My critique, however, is not tethered to any personal affiliation with the group in question, as I strive for an objective evaluation. Regrettably, positive reviews appear confined to acquaintances of the filmmaker, Harry, or former members of the discussed group.
Purporting to delve into the WMSCOG, the documentary ostensibly aspires to offer a profound exploration. Yet, it swiftly reveals itself as a one-sided narrative, characterized by a conspicuous bias. The filmmaker employs selective editing and cherry-picking of evidence, casting doubt on the documentary's commitment to journalistic integrity and the pursuit of an objective truth.
The documentary presents an unbalanced portrayal by neglecting to incorporate counterarguments or alternative perspectives. Notably, the documented legal case is rendered one-dimensional, offering only a singular perspective. While engagement with the Church was elusive, the filmmaker could have gleaned insights from legal documents to present a more nuanced perspective.
A hallmark of responsible documentary filmmaking is the inclusion of diverse viewpoints and dissenting opinions. Unfortunately, this film falls short in this regard, undermining its credibility and perpetuating a skewed perspective. In Manchester 2013, I knew someone who had joined this church and saw how horribly it gripped her life and brainwashed her. One week the world was supposed to end and the next she denied ever believing it. Its crazy hearing this doc repeat quotes she used to say.
Thank you so much for making this! It’s sad how I am able to relate to this. I’m now 30 but many years ago when I was a college freshman, I had this scholarship paid by the catholic church. I quit that college scholarship because it felt wrong, it felt like I was making a pact with the devil. A family member who was supposed to be at a retiring age at that time persevered to pay my college tuition because of what I did. I still feel shitty about it it to this day and I’m just happy I got out before graduating college. It’s true how WMSCOG’s actions impact people’s trajectories. I’ve been a member for 3 years and never came across any abuse or harassment. Very kind loving people. They do keep to Sabbath and 7 festivals but as a really busy working man I can’t make them hardly and have never had any problems or ask for financial support only what put collection as any church and 10% Tith offering is optional as in old testament.

You’re a member who barely keeps service and has only been there 3 years so yeah, they probably leave you alone and view you as someone that doesn’t have strong faith. Also the church does not provide financial support.
I noticed that people who paid tithes but didn't go preaching, participate in early morning prayer, etc. weren't bothered much. My guess is because they're a steady income which is of primary importance. Don't want to pressure you to do other things if you're paying.

Great video! I am also an ex member and so happy that many are talking out about the horrible things being done to members in the WMSCOG.
Got friends of mine who recently joined and it’s been a struggle to say the least. I’ve learned that the best way to handle it is to be there for your friends/loved ones unconditionally, given the trials and tribulations this church will inevitably put them through. Doesn’t mean you have to agree with this false doctrine of WMSCOG, but remind them of the good times you had with them before this church and m let them come to you to vent if they are struggling with the church’s methods of manipulation. Cults like this can be defeated, and it’ll be by their own doing. I can’t promise this process will be quick, but your dedication to helping your friends/loved ones is a noble one. God will not be kind to those who abuse His word or His people.

Whilst living in Lima Peru a neighbour came over talking about the Mother God from South Korea etc etc. Having an understanding of the bible I was thinking ????. My Spanish understanding wasn't 100% and I was lonely so I went along with it for a while. I only went to the church 2 times and had the lady and her friend come over a few times for bible study. It didn't sit well with me so I search online and discovered it was a cult. They wanted me to talk to another English speaking lady who they too were trying to recruit, but she wasn't home, I was relieved though I had in mind to say to the lady run a mile it's a cult. In the end I told the ladies about it being a cult and cut ties with them.
Further to my story this was back in 2011. Unlike brave Michelle I said nothing, I simply left quietly and return to my home country. I'm sorry that so many people since that time have been hurt by this cult! Paganism = Mother God, Father God and Son God! And they have followed the same structure. The mother God always being no. 1.

I'm a former and was baptized in San Diego Zion located in Santee, CA USA. I dedicated 2 years to the cult until I was training to be a teacher. Learning how to teach sermons opened my eyes to the inconsistencies of their teachings. I was then able to see how people were separated from their friends and family and how people were assigned to marry Koreans. I also saw a gay man and a lesbian woman get married and procreate as proof that they were no longer living in sin.
To whom who has a repentance heart and mind, its not too late to repent and seek for forgiveness from Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother before the last judgment day where each person will be rewarded according their deeds on the earth, pls read 2 Tim 4:2-5. 🙏🙏

Well done, this is an absolutely brilliant documentary. The WMSCOG is a cult deserving of all the scrutiny and investigation in the world. Many news outlets paint this cult as an award-winning charitable organisation, but documentaries like this shed light on the true WMSCOG. As a student journalist who has also investigated this cult, its great to see people speaking out about them, and hopefully the cult will suffer because of it.

I had racist treatment from "sisters" who never owned up to their behavior and waited until my unit leader was either distracted or absent to put me in my place. It's so sad that the Deaconess had to apologize on their behalf instead of them admitting that they knew what they were doing was wrong. I understand that some people don't grow up, but those "sisters" were watching and waiting for an opportunity to single me out. This goes beyond ignorance now. This is intentionally targeting someone for a sense of power. Yes, we're all sinners and forgiveness is important, but where is the accountability from these grown women?

If you are a believing Christian, the basis of our believe is the word of God in the Bible..
Any argument should be settled also not thru human opinions but based on the Bible. Judging from what I've seen in this video, they must have been convinced of what they have seen in the Bible initially which they held on for a fair bit of time~ until other circumstances came into play. In other words, this is relational problem not biblical issues. Regardless of which church a person goes to, there will always be relationship conflicts, power struggle etc. Well, welcome to the human world!!

The problem with the church and the abortions is that murder is a sin. I remember watching a video while i was still a member of what hell looked like in pictures.

I feel for these people, I honestly do. They seem to be smart enough, given they can speak, and they seem to be sensible adults. How on earth did they end up believing on something for years and even dedicating so much of their lives because of that belief, (without anyone putting a gun on their head), just to later change their mind (which I believe, they can always choose to do at any time) only to later turn and say they were forced and abused.
Sounds like the time I was at a fitting room, trying on a shirt and the salesperson (being true to his role) enumerated all the reasons I should buy the shirt convincingly enough that I ended up with the purchase. You have found a lot of witnesses which paint a vivid diverse picture, however as someone unknown to the church I would have appreciated more emphasis on the teachings. You could have easily made this documentary an hour long and it would have stayed as interesting and even thorough!!! This church, did not care about my father's mental health issues. He was suffering from schizophrenia, and the thing i regret most is dragging him into that cult. A member even claimed she didn't know what "schizophrenia" is. I'm sure that anyone part of normal society would know what "Schizophrenia" is before entering the church.
Same thing with my brother. He has Autism, and although i didn't quite get him into the church and he was not baptized, I only took him to one sabbath service and realized my mistake. H couldn't read at the time, having austism meant that it would be difficult to teach him their doctrines to him and the Korean deacon at some point got "Upset" because he couldn't "preach" to my brother nor could my brother possibly read or "Fully" understand what they were trying to teach him. It wasn't his fault, no matter how much I tried to tell the members about my brother's intellectual disabilities, they didn't care. They just wanted to spread their "gospel" and bring more vunerable people into the cult and even possibly make more money out of them.
To say they brainwash their members, is very true but none of my family are members anymore and neither myself, but I am glad i am not because there's so much to unpack.
Aslo, another thing about mental health in the cult, is they did not care about the fact i was already suffering anxiety and depression at the time, one of the other female members told me the reason why i suffered from depression is because of the sins i committed in heaven before coming to earth, and that's just not the truth at all.

- The genuine hope originally was to have more access to the church and build more of a dialogue. I was also bound by a lot of ethics restrictions from my uni as this film doubled up partially as my dissertation, which is why I may come across as more reserved when confronting them. I'd certainly do things differently if I had the backing of a studio or something so I'd have had more freedom and power on my side, but also hindsight's 20/20 and I'm personally very proud of what I was able to independently put together with little resources 🙌
- as for the church interview with Richard, the location was partly stylistic and partly convenience due to a late change in location ahaha

I think you did a great job working around that in hindsight. Presenting the obvious questions to the viewer is very tactful & I hope it came up well in the marking from uni.
It’s interesting to consider how they were seemingly non confrontational in their responses or body language but it was clear they wouldn’t entertain any dialogue with you; even though they had acknowledged your letter (in a somewhat dismissive way).
