AppleInsider I want to buy a new iPad but don’t spend a lot of money ... should I go for the iPad (2017), iPad (2018) or save for the iPad Pro (2017) ? The newest iPad Pro simply isn’t an option because it costs way too much ... :-((
AppleInsider Do you prefer the 11” or 12.9” especially considering that the 12.9 can show two iPad size apps side by side in split screen mode vs two iPhone apps on the 11”?
Yeah , push it that “almost like a laptop”,so you can accept the superior price , but at the end , still a tablet , maximum the profit strategic , that is my long term review of my 10.5 pro
Despite the fact that at 3:55 he said "So we can all agree that the iPad has close to high end desktop performance" I agree with your statement, but this quote is just ridiculous. The best MacBooks are nowhere near desktop performance due to thermalthrotteling, so how is an iPad going to be?
Maxwaehrens I don’t think its fair to compare an ipad to a windows considering how different they are I don’t see why someone would want to replace a bulky high end windows laptop with a ipad, i feel like they have different use cases
But it doesn't make a difference, the review would be the exact same. Both iPad's have the exact same functionality and accessories. Sure the larger one has more RAM, more storage and a larger screen. But both are powerhouses and it doesn't effect the overall aspect of what iPad is capable of doing. Most of the iPad reviews are talking about if it can replace a laptop, it doesn't matter what size you use talk about, because they're the same device
I just got mine too! I was thinking back and forth between this and the 6th gen iPad which has been on sale for $250 everywhere. USB c and the upcoming iPad os were the driving factors.
By now the message is clear, and I think Apple has no choice but to listen. Absolutely every iPad Pro 2018 review has the message baked in one way or another. External storage has to happen. In the beginning it was mostly because of security, but by now I think they can still keep iOS secure and sealed, while also working with files. The moment Final Cut Pro comes to iPad, that’s the moment they’ll do it ;-)
Yeah I agree with both of you. They are probably working on how to get file storage onto iOS. Maybe like how twitter is still thinking of an edit twit button.
There’s something sinister about apple when they release something it feels like they make you buy all of their products because one can do what another one can’t do.
It’s laptop money though??? Not to mention they marketed it as such that’s complete bs especially when apples does such. Sorry your ears hear the truth from time to time........ also what’s a computer
Yeah, but I don't know if RUclipsrs did it on purpose so they would make the hype about the new iPad, and then the controversy about it not being enough to replace a laptop (like every year), and finally they would get attention (Like iJustine, TLD, Austin Evans, and many more...) But it becomes quite annoying in the end, and WE ALL KNOW what an iPad is for, what it can do, and what I can't....@@psihuntr
It's not a laptop, but Apple compares it to laptops. Thus, it's fair to compare it to laptops. It's not complicated. Comparing it to laptops is more than fair as Apple themselves have done it.
This was a very solid review. I waited all year thinking I was sure to upgrade my 12.9” Pro but the reality is that the new Pros, while nicer, don’t add anything to any other iPad you’ve had before. If your iPad is very dated, this is a spectacular opportunity to refresh. But if you’re using a capable iPad or Pro now, there’s sadly no reason to. I even feel like I’d take a few steps back as there is no headphone jack and I like the way the old half-covering case worked a little better than the new Keyboard Case.
If you cannot decide between getting the iPad Pro 11” or the iPad Pro 12.9”, here’s what I recommend The only difference between the iPad Pro 11” and the iPad Pro 12.9” is the size. So I think that it’s best to get the one you feel like you’d feel most comfortable in. But I also do recommend getting the 11 inch, it’s not too big and it’s not too small- it’s literally the perfect size! Unless you want to go like a further step and get the 12.9”, it’s depends on what you’d feel most comfortable in Hope you make the right choice 😊
If you set “USB Connection” to “MTP” and “USB Power Supply” to “Off” on your sony camera both pictures and videos will appear in the iOS import window.
@Ziad Hamwi sorry unbiased? Apple is in his youtube name, he is biased, not saying he's not honest because he says what he believes but this is literally a channel based on apple. Just a little bias
Thank you for a great review. Really confronts some real issues. I have been saying for years that the only thing standing in the way of me selling my Macbook and using my iPad as my full-time computer is the lack of mouse support. There is absolutely no utilitarian reason for Apple to obstinately refuse to open up iOS to mouse support other than to protect against lost Mac sales. The one concern I do have is regarding the whole "can an iPad replace a laptop?" conversation. So often people try to answer this by simply itemizing all the things that a laptop can do that an iPad cannot and concluding that, since there definitely are a few things that would go on that list, that it cannot. This simply isn't true. This is approaching the "can it replace..." question from the wrong starting point. Which device has more functionality is demonstrably evident, but is irrelevant when trying to answer the question. The only thing that should be considered when answering that question is "what do YOU need from your computer?". The answer is personal. There is no one right answer for everyone. There are things a laptop can do better, but there are definitely things the iPad does much better than the laptop and there are things it does that the laptop just cannot do at all (assuming we are talking about a Mac). Whether the iPad can replace your laptop simply comes down to your individual needs and not by putting "cans" and "cannots" on a scale and seeing which one weights more. For my mom and millions of casual computer users...the iPad absolutely can replace a laptop. Hell...to be honest; at this point a smart phone could replace a laptop for millions of people. Maybe for you it can't. There just is no "one size fits all" answer to this one. Thanks :)
This is pretty much the review I have been waiting for. It’s unbelievable that apple isn’t able to customize an os that fits professionals needs and that just makes the iPad a reasonable replacement for a laptop. There must have been a reason behind them not designing that appropriate os and this video clears everything. Thank you a lot one of my favorite tech reviews this year.
I was told different, like i can edit music, videos edit, podcasts. But hearing this make me not want this at all. The main reason i want this is to make music and for college. Be a plus if i can do podcasts on it.
Great review! For me, with the arrival of iOS Catalina, iPad makes great sense as the second screen for my MacBook Pro on the go. 11" screen is better size than the earlier 9.7" and not as bulky as 12.9", so upgrading is an easy decision .
The Pencil works just fine for me as a cursor/mouse in iOS for the apps that can make use of it. Other than that, I’d much rather not have mice/mouses for my iPad - thank you very much. I honestly don’t think Apple would go that way either or else it’s full on macOS replication mode. I think the things we see as ‘limitations’ are probably Apple’s way of forcing manufacturers and users into their way of future computing, which in my view is simpler and more conformant to easy to follow ‘rules’ rather than the Wild West that’s macOS and Windows. I’ve taken a bit over a year to adjust and my transformation has been a bit painful, but honestly - it’s been worth it. It’s just an alternate way of computing rather than “Computer Replacement”. I still use both - but practically, I can accomplish all I want/need to on either device and that’s probably the main intention here. I can’t speak for the professional creative folks - but average Joe corporate office me, I’m good.
You guys have hit the nail on it’s head with this review. Very refreshing, as opposed to many other reviews. Keep it up, and stay honest. Big thumbs up 👍🏽
Just bought the 2020 iPad Pro 11, and I gotta say, it is pretty overpowered. Perfect for my college, perfect for professional software, and totally worth $800. Not bad Apple. Not bad.
I replaced my laptop years ago with an iPad Air 2, it can definitely do it. One thing I like about iOS, it doesn’t have everything, it has what I need. I think cloud storage is brilliant, you never forget to bring it and the media never changes. Sounds like someday soon we’ll be looking at usb-a like a floppy or Zip disk.
With my iPad Pro 2016, I can do almost anything a computer can do. Further, the iPad can do things a computer can’t do, like draw right on the screen, turn on in an instant, have Internet access on the go, take a photo or video and then import it into an app to edit it. Also there are many apps that can do the job of what your looking for. Like I can RDP (remote access) to another computer with a free app. Make a phone call through my iPad. Also, I sit my iPad on a stand in my truck to use Google maps to navigate. So I’m sure there are much more uses of the iPad when it comes to uses than a laptop. So it may not “replace” a computer but Apple never said this anyways: On their website it says, “Like a computer, Unlike any computer”.
Law Crusaders To use GPS, do you need internet connection, or does the GPS work just like a Garmin, in the sense that all you need is electricity and it works?
Law Crusaders yea people keep thinking apple said its a replacement.. its an alternative. Lucky you tho I have to use a hotspot from my phone which is unlimited but slows down after 10GB
Had my iPad Pro 11 for 6 months and it is great. My need to use my 2013 MacBook has drastically reduced, but still use it for detailed Excel and Word work. Almost everything else I do on the iPad Pro. Particularly love the aspect ratio on the 11 inch, as is much better for photos and videos. ,
You've said it all. Apple won't enable PC levels of capabilities on the iPad line-up. Just like they won't produce a hybrid version of the Mac-book Air as doing so would lead to the extinction of one product line in favour of the other thereby reducing their streams of profit.
Wow, answered every question I had about these. Thanks for putting this together, great review. The lack of external storage and f lubbed photo/video management is a shame.
Nice info. But there are some updates recently. The iPad Pro with the new iPadOS starts is compatible with the external drives, keyboard, mouse! Give it a try.
Quick, informative and concise, reviews really don't get much better than this. I agree with your analysis of the iPad Pro 11. I was given one for Christmas and my initial excitement and surprise at the look, feel, and speed were quickly tainted by the lack of connectivity. It just isn't a computer replacement and that is outrageous at a time when other manufacturers have enabled their technology to be more readily utilized. I'm looking for a jailbreak to fee the monster inside the iPad Pro 11. Thank you for sharing this awesome and accurate review. Liked, commented and subscribed.
Me in the future New magic keyboard with trackpad, and extra type c charging port Supports ssd Multi tasking Monitor support Mouse support that is actually better than mouse support on a pc! So, yessir
Surprisingly, an honest , not fan-boyish review. Kudos! I think Apple will never make iPad a laptop replacement. Microsoft is doing it; and I just hope one day it reaches the power of apple processors with full-fledged operating system with great battery life. I will be the first one to buy it. WIndows or MacOS, I don't care.
I do not want the iPad to be more than an iPad. I learned years ago with the first generation of the surface pro. It is all too good to be true. These products all fulfill a niche. You must buy them for a purpose. Do not buy a tablet with the expectations of hardware and software designed at a higher price level. Expect to pay for what you truly want. Pay well for things you want done perfectly, right, and more than well. iPad pro is the product of university students who need to take a ton of notes. Best tool on the market. Nothing comes close. My mac book has a role in typing ,and light codeing, and simple storage of files.
I’ve used a 10.5” iPad Pro as my computer through my entire master’s degree. At no point did I wish I had a laptop, because the iPad actually did many things a laptop couldn’t for me like allow me to fill out worksheets right on the display with the Apple Pencil or use it as a sheet music reader in orchestra rehearsals. Actually, a laptop would’ve limited me a lot more and would’ve weighed down my instrument case a lot more. The iPad is my main computer.
I bought it to record samples of my songs as an artist. Since all the touch ups are done in my studio, it's perfect. The power of the processor is simply awesome.
@@harrymmc3579 1. I’m not sure what you mean by add. 2. Im on the 64 gb version and the system takes slightly less than 10% of the whole storage. I use google cloud so I never really run out of storage.
@@harrymmc3579 I’ve never really tried it myself, but some people claims that plugging in external storage through the usb-c works for them while some don’t. I think it’s probably an iffy situation.

Apple: We don't provide a touchscreen on the Macbook because a laptop is supposed to be used with hands rested and poking fingers on a screen can be fatiguing. Also Apple: We think the full touchscreen iPad is a replacement for the traditional laptop.
You can access files from an external NAS. Just because you cannot connected an external hard drive directly, doesn’t mean that there’s not another way. Steve Jobs original idea was a piece of glass that could transfer everything “wirelessly”. Don’t forget about Airdrop, that’s another way to access files on a different drive.
I need an advise guys. - I have a 2014 MacBook Pro and it's great so far. But it's getting old. - iPhone 6. I don't think I should buy Xs. Not because it sucks but I don't think it worth atm while iOS 12 still supports iPhone 6. I think I should keep iPhone 6, buy new iPad to replace few functions on both iPhone and Macbook, then buy an iMac for working.
0:31 - *By losing little bits off the corners "you feel like it's a modern device"* 🤔 3:29 - *Losing big chunks off the sides makes "shows & movies suddenly so much more immersive"* 😲 7:55 - *"For some... browsing the web, replying to emails and writing word documents is enough" to spend nearly $1000* 🙄
I sold my 2016 MacBook Pro and got an iPad Pro 11" instead. My MacBook never left its bag and I only picked it up once a week to run amp modeling software for my live performances. The iPad can do all of that, plus edit music, photos, and videos. It's basically just a bigger iPhone to me without the cellular. The fact that I own an expensive gaming PC made this decision even easier. There is never a time I am not at my desk on this pc, so having a MacBook just for amp modeling didn't make sense.
It was never intended to be a laptop. People always forget, these were devices that slid into hardware and became the interface, which is why using a stylus was fail. Glad to see it's still viable. I'm going to buy one now.
Understand your needs an purchase accordingly. Most of my projects that start on my iPad end up on my desktop for all the heavy lifting. My 1st gen iPad Pro is a companion piece to my desktop. It’s a convenient tool when I need to do something right quick, or for entertainment purposes. Now I’ll admit it replaces a lot of basic “daily tasks” a laptop can do but that’s it for me. Give the iPad Pro another 3-5 years and I think it could replace your laptop.
If the files system was more robust, external storage was easier to connect and use, and Apple allowed torrent apps on the App Store then I would gladly switch from my 2016 MacBook Pro to the 12.9in 1tb iPad Pro.
apple should make it so that the display can tell whether you are touching with your finger, palm, or pencil. so you could write with the pencil, erase with your palm, or side of your hand, and finger, so you could select items
I’ve really wanted one of these, but the lack of mouse support and the difficulty moving files has left me hesitating. My iPad Air 2 has served as my PC and Tablet at times, sometimes for a week or two, but for work needing a mouse and extending my display out to a hi res monitor, I end up setting it aside. It’s too bad they didn’t provide those functions as the iPad Pro is wayyyy more powerful than the Windows PC they provide me at my job, and it can do all of these things. So, it’s not that Apple is missing out on MacBook sales if they do this, but they are also missing out on boatloads of managers of companies that would love to switch, and retire their PC’s. Especially those that travel often, that can use Remote Desktop or Citrix, combined with MS Office to do 100% of their work.
I use the 13-in. And I pretty much only use it for taking notes. But I love that apple pencil now. This thing is like a glorified notepad! I'm wondering if the 11-in would feel a lot better and be more portable
Best review ever! If you use your tablet for film and photo editing and find a way to solve the problem with the extra space you can easily do your job by using affinity photo and luma touch etc. You have limitations but you can do your job. I agree that Apple doesn’t want to equal Mac with tablet but the quality of this device is in highest level and you can find ways to do your job.
I bought the 12.9" model, used it for about a week, and I'm returning it on Sunday. It's a beautiful device but the battery life sucks and writing on it isn't as comfortable as I thought it would be.

Best iPad Pro 2018 review ever! Just the truth in a 8:25 min video. Awesome!!
You guys makes always the best reviews 👍
Just bought the 2020 iPad Pro 11, and I gotta say, it is pretty overpowered. Perfect for my college, perfect for professional software, and totally worth $800. Not bad Apple. Not bad.
Thanks. Very useful review with important little details, that I don’t find in major tech blogs on RUclips. Very appreciate.
I have unlimited internet on my iPad and iPhone through T-Mobile. (This isn’t the kind that after so many megabytes it slows down, it’s T-Mobile 1)
Particularly love the aspect ratio on the 11 inch, as is much better for photos and videos.
,
Finally someone f.ing realized... Very good review!
love how honest this video is. doesnt fear saying the negatives and suggestions. it really helps.
The lack of external storage and f
lubbed photo/video management is a shame.
the best ever ipad review i've seen so far.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Me in the future
New magic keyboard with trackpad, and extra type c charging port
Supports ssd
Multi tasking
Monitor support
Mouse support that is actually better than mouse support on a pc!
So, yessir
You talking about the ipad pro 2020 right?
Does it support add now?and how much free storage left after iOS updates
@@harrymmc3579
1. I’m not sure what you mean by add.
2. Im on the 64 gb version and the system takes slightly less than 10% of the whole storage. I use google cloud so I never really run out of storage.
@@tokeninja1996 support for SSD i mean..in this video they said usb c doesn't read storage drives..so only i asked
@@harrymmc3579 I’ve never really tried it myself, but some people claims that plugging in external storage through the usb-c works for them while some don’t. I think it’s probably an iffy situation.
The way the pencil attaches to the tablet is copied from Microsoft Surface Pro. The charging is still good idea tho.
This is the most honest Apple review I have ever seen. Well done Dude.
Steve Jobs : Who needs stylus?
Me : i need pencil

You should have saved yourself a ton of cash.. IPadOS comes with mouse support
when you buy a Mac the day before this announcement because of no mouse support
@@ahzayoc1207 that's just sad.
They added mouse support btw
Thanks for the good and honest advice in your review. Very much appreciated!!
Looking forward to get my iPad Pro 11” from my friends pawn shop. Getting a smoking deal on it and couldn’t be more excited!
A very dedicated video keeping in mind consumer needs. Job done in a professional manner
Still rocking my 10.5 iPad Pro and it’s a pleasure to use it , beast ,I imagine the experience with the new pro will be even better
And four years later, we have the Magic Keyboard with trackpad, can transfer files to and from external hardddives and have FCP coming to iPad.
Apple: We don't provide a touchscreen on the Macbook because a laptop is supposed to be used with hands rested and poking fingers on a screen can be fatiguing.
Also Apple: We think the full touchscreen iPad is a replacement for the traditional laptop.
They never said the iPad is a replacement for a laptop though
You can access files from an external NAS. Just because you cannot connected an external hard drive directly, doesn’t mean that there’s not another way. Steve Jobs original idea was a piece of glass that could transfer everything “wirelessly”. Don’t forget about Airdrop, that’s another way to access files on a different drive.
A rounded display doesn’t make me “feel” anything. I’ll stick with my 10.5 inch model
But.. the new pro has much more power than the older versions
300$ ipad works like charm for every basic stuff
Viral India yeah I prefer that one because I’m a casual user and I already have a MacBook Pro
it really is the best one despite the smaller screen. Its a fun toy because if you're serious about work, you wouldn't resort to even the best ipad.
@@Appppy I agree. I really love it, but not for serious work. It's a sometimes useful, and very pretty toy.
Yeah but iOS sucks in ipads
@Otie Jason They still use an 8K true color desktop display for professional artwork and animation. An iPad is merely a casual art leap frog.
0:31 - *By losing little bits off the corners "you feel like it's a modern device"* 🤔

This is a really good review.
Best review for the new iPad Pro
I just purchased the 11" this week and its so better than my 2017 10.5 pro. I am very impressed. Still feel it is over priced
This is a review! Great video, keep it up brother! Take care
I just bought one of these, I was thinking I should have waited. Though, you made a good point, it won’t look dated when the new one comes out.
With iOS 13, it has replaced the laptop. Kind of.
It was never intended to be a laptop. People always forget, these were devices that slid into hardware and became the interface, which is why using a stylus was fail. Glad to see it's still viable. I'm going to buy one now.
5:56 - False - Use MTP Mode on the Sony A7 III and you get the 4K Videos to import.
This is the most honest review of this thing I saw. The screen size is a nice feature but compared to the $300 A10 regular ipads
yes, hardware is best, but limits on iOS (software)
the screen is just as good if not better than the tab s4 amoled. i exchanged the tab s4 for the ipad pro.
Just don’t want to pay that price for an LCD display. I’ll hang on for an OLED iPad
James Mawdesley it’s not OLED but it has a 120 hz pro-motion display
apple should make it so that the display can tell whether you are touching with your finger, palm, or pencil. so you could write with the pencil, erase with your palm, or side of your hand, and finger, so you could select items
First unbaised review of an Apple product on this channel
Especially those that travel often, that can use Remote Desktop or Citrix, combined with MS Office to do 100% of their work.
finally next to dave lee's review. got to be honest all the time then it's awesome all the time.
Thanks! Means a lot :)
I use the 13-in. And I pretty much only use it for taking notes. But I love that apple pencil now. This thing is like a glorified notepad! I'm wondering if the 11-in would feel a lot better and be more portable
why all appleinsider reviewers look pretty badass but still have gentleman voice?
I don’t know if this is a laptop replacement, but i’m using this for all work i do. And currently don’t even own a laptop🤷🏽♂️ it’s been fine for me
I like your voice, very clear
Watching this video in March 2020, I feel apple finally read your minds
Brutally Honest review !! 🔥
This is by far the best review on youtube
That was really a great honest review!
Thanks!
Two years later- Apple: fine we’ll add keyboard and mouse support
3:56 "close to high end desktop levels of performance"
Are you joking?
Ng i think he never used a desktop 🖥
More like high end laptop levels of performance
Best review ever! If you use your tablet for film and photo editing and find a way to solve the problem with the extra space you can easily do your job by using affinity photo and luma touch etc. You have limitations but you can do your job. I agree that Apple doesn’t want to equal Mac with tablet but the quality of this device is in highest level and you can find ways to do your job.
What wallpaper is he using? It’s so cool.
Sorry that’s it’s 2 years later but it’s in the description box
@@alio8851 thx 💀
I bought the 12.9" model, used it for about a week, and I'm returning it on Sunday. It's a beautiful device but the battery life sucks and writing on it isn't as comfortable as I thought it would be.
Best iPad review I’ve seen. Great job AI!
