🇫🇷 Testament est né des cendres d’un premier groupe : Legacy. A l’issue de cette renaissance, le combo se fédère autour de son leader actuel, le charismatique Chuck Billy. Par son rôle de pionnier du genre, Testament devient vite un groupe emblématique du thrash metal et de la mouvance Bay Area en particulier.
Depuis sa création en 1983, la géométrie de Testament n’a cessé d’évoluer. L’histoire du groupe ferait d'ailleurs un superbe soap opera metal tant il a connu de départs, d'arrivées, de disputes, de retournements de situation (Netflix, si tu nous lis)… Malgré ces déboires internes, Testament reste une légende du thrash, au même titre que Metallica, Slayer ou encore Megadeth.
La reconnaissance mondiale de Testament est également due à nombre impressionnant d'albums complétement culte ! Cette discographie culmine depuis 2020 avec l’opus Titans of Creation, qui prend ainsi la relève de Brotherhood of the Snake. On découvre ça en mode live sur la scène Altar du Hellfest.

🇩🇪 Testament sind aus der Band Legacy hervorgegangen, deren Mitglieder sich 1986 um den charismatischen Chuck Billy scharten. Sie zählen zu den ältesten Thrash-Metal-Formationen, die Anfang der 1980er Jahre aus der San Francisco Bay Area hervortraten und sind damit echte Pioniere des Genres.
Seit ihrer Gründung hat sich die Formation stets weiterentwickelt. Aus der Bandgeschichte könnte man eine wunderbare Seifenoper machen, so viele Musiker hat die Gruppe im Laufe der Jahre verschlissen, so viele Streitigkeiten wurden zwischen ihnen ausgefochten, so viele schicksalhafte Wendungen haben sie erlebt (na, wie wär’s, Netflix?). Doch trotz aller internen Querelen zählen Testament bis heute neben Metallica, Slayer und Megadeth zu den Legenden der Thrash-Metal-Szene.
Ihren weltweiten Ruf haben sich Testament vor allem aufgrund ihrer beeindruckenden Zahl an Alben mit Kultstatus erworben. Aktueller Höhepunkt ihrer Diskographie ist das 2020 erschienene Album „Titans of Creation“, das die Nachfolge von „Brotherhood of the Snake“ antritt. Beim Hellfest ist es live auf der Altar-Bühne zu erleben.

Eric Peterson is the most under rated guitarist of the past 35 years. He’s like a freaking metallic wizard as a songwriter too! He and Skolnick are a MIGHTY duo! Oh yeah, and long live Chuck Billy!!!

He tells a story about writing the last album where he went to some haunted castle somewhere in Europe where is was like rainy and foggy all the time with thunder storms and writing those awesome riffs with just like candles and fireplaces for light...it really sets the mood!

Seeing Eric and Alex share the limelight is very cool. Eric has done so much to keep Testament going all these years.
I think he IS the main reason why they're still there and kicking asses.
I’ve seen them a pile of times and Eric is the one to watch on stage, total monster player and he always seems absolutely psyched to be there.

My fiends and family never understood how in the world I could listen to this to calm me down lol........can't say I understood either lol but it works for me. Been thrashing for better than 45 years now and still going strong at 56!

This is what I love about Testament, pretty much every other band from that era has rounded corners these days. This sounds like proper metal from the first note on.

I was lucky enough to see Testament live during The Ritual tour at Max's bar and Grill in Ithaca NY, back in the day. They opened with Electric Crown and the whole place just went FUCKING bonkers. So awesome. One of the best shows I've ever seen, and I've seen alot of shows. LONG LIVE TESTAMENT!
I saw the Ritual tour as well. Cincinnati at Bogarts. An unknown band named White Zombie opened.

para mi ha sido una de las mejores bandas del metal de todos los tiempos lastima que no tuvieron el mismo apoyo de otras como slayer y metallica por parte de la industria de la música, pero chuck billy todavía le queda mucho lastima q en este concierto la voz fue tapada por el sonido de los instrumentos debieron darse cuenta que su voz no se escuchaba bien desde el principio, testament son unos monstruos

people still dont get the meaning behind big 4. unbelievable. by the time Testament released their debut album, there was already big 4. Personal preferences for some bands over the others doesnt mean shit.
I dont give a flying fuck about two other bands besides Slayer and Metallica but that doesnt change the fact that they are in big 4.

Amongst all the older bands from the 80’s and 90’s across rock-n-roll, these guys are far and away one of the BEST live performers I’ve seen. They just fucking bang. Energy, thump, power, chops, licks, virtually mistake free heavy metal thrash in all its glory. Incredible stuff.
pretty typical in the metal genre, especially for the 80s. Almost all thrash bands performed at a high level, same for deathmetal later on

Fan since day one Probably the most criminally underrated metal band out there especially Alex and his lead playing I consider them one of the big eight along with Exodus overkill and death Angel!

What I wouldnt give to run one of those cameras. Helps to know the music. Like when to snap zoom in on Alex's blistering speed only to pan back out as he finishes the solo capturing the energy exchange between him and the crowd or lock on to Mr. Billy's head-shot because you know he's about to deliver a low rumble powerful enough to set off regional seismic detectors instead of missing important performances because the camera man doesnt know which member is about to step up to the spotlight and display his talented contribution to the band.... Dunno, maybe it's just me
J'ai eu la chance d'être au 3ème rang à ce concert ce dimanche 18 juin au Hellfest... Tout le monde était allé voir Slipknot ou presque (j'exagère un peu), mais la foule n'était pas si dense au début... Puis après ça s'est densifié. Très gros pit derrière, ça masse le dos ! Merci Chuck Billy pour le médiator 😀

This band is so STACKED with talent. Eric Peterson is absolutely flawless on rhythm, Skolnick is an juggernaut on lead, Chuck sounds like a fucking demon, Steve D is GOATing at bass guitar as always, and Chris is keeping the drumming for Testament easily the best in the genre per usual. This why this band continuously releases bangers

At some point I will fulfill my dream of seeing them live! The truth is that I need to fulfill my dream of seeing them in Argentina, several times they gave their shows and I couldn't go due to lack of work and money! I love them since I heard them as a child!

Never been a huge fan, but damn they sound great. They've got that polish you only get by doing it live for years and years.

@@soculese When they get their stuff together, they are POWERFUL! But when Chuck Billy has issues hearing him in the monitor, which happens some times, it's a total shit-show.
Been at 3 out of 8 concerts or so where they messed up in all of it's grandeur. But the other 5 times I had the fackin' time of my life in the moshpit, and they absolutely slayed it! Last time was one day before this concert, where they played Graspop - that was fucking phenomenal. They also played More than Meets the Eye instead of Electric Crown, which was much better and fitting. Was just a pleasure!
