Toby Gad chose artists to reimagine some of his greatest hits.He chose Angelina and other talents for his upcoming Piano Diaries LP.He has called Angelina a very,very,very special performer.
That was Toby Gab on the piano. They also have just written a song together called Bad Valentine which will be out very soon. Did you see her magnificent EP from August last year, all original songs six of them. Stunning!!!!
On the piano is the co-writer of the song, Toby Gad. Just to let you know, the other co-writer of the song, BC Jean, was the first to sing the song as well as the person the song came from. She had just broken up with the man that she loved. Per Toby, they played it for Beyonce one day and she really wanted to sing and use this song, and the rest you say is history. Angelina and Toby have been working together for a while now and are creating new music for her to sing. They teased a song at a special event called Bad Valentine and it should be coming out within a few months. This collaboration is awesome! The Piano Diaries is Toby's project of other singers singing his most famous songs. Angelina of course is singing this song made famous by Beyonce.

This cover is glorious, it lets her voice absolutely shine. Thanks to Toby for asking AJ to sing this reinvented cover of his song for his Piano Diaries album. Toby is quoted saying, “Working with Angelina has been nothing short of inspiring. Her ability to channel profound emotion through her voice adds a whole new depth to the song.” They are also working on other songs for AJ. This will be huge for her. After 16 years of practice Angelina has now arrived.

This was her 5th performance of this song. It was done in Spain I believe. The first performance in a small venue in LA. Her second performance on one of the biggest stages in the world when she performed it live with Toby Gad on Andrew Lloyd Webber's theatre 'The Palladium in London.
Angelina dropped her Official Music Video of 'If I Were a Boy’ The Piano Diaries by Toby Gad. He co-wrote this song with B C Jean and it was made famous by Beyonce in 2008. Toby is working on a reimagining of 9 of his most famous hits and he chose Angelina for this 'reimagination' of this song. This was her second performance released on her Official Channel. Angelina performed a concert in LasVegas on February 29th at the International theater in Westgate Hotel and Casino. She did two shows in one night and she was fantastic. James Thiel (summaengineer) and Chris Walker (BigAngieFan) have put together some stellar fan video multicamera edits of those shows and they are well worth checking out. You need to go to their channels to get them as they are technically unofficial videos, but great anyway. On her official channel there is a video that was put out by her mom called "Angelina Jordan 10 years in the making", and it is the story behind these shows. It is also worth checking out. A cover only in the sense that what Beyoncé made was a cover of the song written by BC Jean and Toby Gad, originally performed by Jean in 2008. Beyoncé's cover was that same year.
In this video the pianist is Toby Gad .. the Piano Diaries are a celebration of his hit songs. He invited Angelina to England with him to perform .. this is the fourth version I have heard. I am not sure if it is really a cover when a singer is standing next to the composer as they jam to create a different version of the song.
@eTraxx The original performance of this song preceded this. Therefore, by definition, AJ's rendition is a cover. Whether the composer is accompanying her or whether it's a different version make zero difference.

This is the way this Song has to be sung. She's adding a lot of emotions to the original. Toby said it at the backstage interview of the ivors 🎉
She said those exact words when just a little girl, "To me singing is like breathing". She was probably 10 when she said it. And she also said "When I close my eyes when singing I go to this magical place that I never want to leave".
Also, There is a different version video of this song on Angelina's channel which is the Official music video, and the full instrumental version. This is the version Toby will use for his album/LP. The other is Angelina's version that will probably be in her first full album.

Why does it seem effortless? My theory is that she is singing while the parasympathetic system (growth, nourishment and relaxation) is in full calming affect. This is in contrast to most other performers that are fully wired with their sympathetic system (fight or flight) pumping through their veins. Of course it is also the incredible control over her vocal 'instrument', but her relaxed composure allows all the range of feelings to be emoted, without conveying much effort. Angelina is in her happy place when singing, and we all sense it.
