wolfman luggage is fantastic, it is the toughest material ive seen. I have had zero issues, and its easy access. two side pannier and one duffel.

I too am a fan of hard boxes. Love the look of MM, but when you’re stopped you always have to unroll it all just to grab a scooby snack and then if you been riding in mud / dusty conditions your hands are dirty… 😅 so problems to have…

I wish I could get the Micatech Pilots, but Micatech is out of business.
    Top loader or side loader?
For off-road the recommended luggage is soft, because it's less likely to break your legs when you put them down at low speeds.
But for highway use? Gimme a beefy metal box any day, and twice on Sunday, for three reasons.
    1) Security. A lockable, secure space to put your stuff in.
    2) They make the bike easier to pick up.
    3) Crash protection. I was hit twice last October, in a 2-week period.
I was in the far right lane, merging from one freeway to another, traveling at 25-30 mph. Plenty of space in front of me. Then the lane to my left stops, and the car next to me swerves into my lane.
My bike falls over on their car & slides towards the back, until it fell off and went skidding on the left side of the bike until it stopped. I'm clamped in, with a death grip on the handlebars and squeezing my legs against the tank until I come to a stop.
I do a quick check, wiggling my fingers & toes, and everything seems to be working. I crawl out from under the bike and stand up, only 13:19 to see the car that hit me drive off. Yay, felony hit & run! Bastards.
2 weeks later I'm passing on the left side of a BMW 3 Series, at 30 mph. He comes over into my lane without signaling. I blow my 120 dB horn and he just keeps coming. I can't go left because there is traffic there, i can't accelerate or brake, because there isn't time.
He hits my bike on the right side, and once again I scrape down the side of the car, but this time I was able to keep the bike upright, and slow down. We pulled into a parking lot, and he started off blaming me.
Right. . . After a couple of minutes he accepts it was his responsibility. Probably did $2 - $3000 worth of damage to his car.
The combination of the GSA with the metal panniers made a nice safe space for me in both instances. It wouldn't matter in a t-bone, but in cases like this they worked to protect me. I might have scuffed the left elbow of my jacket in the first instance, but I can't really tell.
I will always ride on the street with my metal side cases. Yes, they make lane-splitting a pain, but I can deal with that.

Great overview. Thanks! I feel the same way. I run soft luggage for hard stuff but long highway touring, it's hard boxes for me. I love them way more for everything you mentioned.

Lonerider are excellent and so are Enduristan. Soft enough if you go down but plenty strong to absorb the chock! I run them both on different bikes.

I think there's a better way though to have hard boxes for on-road touring that can survive more abuse. I should put thoughts down into a blog post. I have 2 manufacturers that want to work on building something as a trial run if we can presell the first batch. I'd like to sell 50 sets at $699 a piece for a GSA rack

It really sounds like you would like the Lonerider Motobags. They address the weaknesses you don’t want while having the structure and packing ease of hard bags.

I have LoneRider Motobags on my R1250 GS, they do exactly what Mr.Chandler would like to have. 👋🏼 from Quebec Canada.

Those panniers, especially the plastic ones, are not crash-proof. I bought a newer one for my R 1300 GS Tramuntana, and one is already broken because I touched the vinyl fence of my driveway while getting out of the garage.

I really liked my Mosko Moto panniers but may try Lone Rider next. I had hard panniers on my Pan America and prefer them for the same reasons but after one hard drop it was never water tight again.

For starters they should be included with the PREMIUM package…If you order a GS/A in Greece( where Im from😜) and add the TOUR package it costs around €900 lets say $1000… Why on earth do we have to pay here in the States upwards of $2700????? Cause simply dealerships are not that they are RESELLERS !!!! I guess tou know why I dont have panniers on my GSA Trophy now right?🤣🤣🤣
Theres no control no regulation in place against profiteering whereas elsewhere the price you see is the price you pay PERIOD!! Good share there boss safe travels from balmy Arizona🫡🇺🇸🌵 Hit 111 today Globe,AZ to Tucson,AZ
