I do think one thing that is missing from this list is the difference in people’s earnings. It’s really important to remember that most people earn €1200 a month if you’re lucky ! Prices have also gone up considerably in Spain, I know I lived there 25 years. In the US you will earn a lot more so it all evens out in the long run. This isn’t a criticism of the comparison but I think it should be taken into account. 😊
Of course 😊 but this video is not for Spanish people to begin with. Most of the foreigners who move to Spain have remote jobs, online/physical businesses or do freelance. It is hard to find a job as a foreigner in Spain if you are not a great specialist in a narrow niche. That’s why I didn’t point to the salary differences in the video, it’s obvious 🙂

Hi Mari, thanks for an excellent video. I'm American, been traveling for the past 11/2 years, staying for extended periods in Colombia, Morocco, France, and Turkey. I've come to realize that the differences between food in the US and other countries are greater than what you cite--primarily because of the chemicals the US government allows on crops, food production, etc. Many, many allowed there are banned in the EU. I believe you witnessed a difference in the eggs. Thin shells? Light yellow yolk? Only in America. Milk that gives you acne? Again, only in America! I couldn't tolerate dairy in the US except Organic, which is expensive, and even then I could only have it In moderation. You didn't mention the vegetables. Non-organic vegetables go bad, rot, within days. Same with fruit. A quick Google search will turn up the list of chemicals used in the US vs. those banned in most other countries. The next country on our list is Spain! Looking forward to exploring Spanish food!
@@ElaineSmith-h9o thank you for your comment Elaine! Completely agree! That’s insane how they add all those chemicals.. and you are right I remember my vegetables going rotten in the fridge surprisingly fast! We stopped freezing meat and I finally can keep some vegetables out of fridge for the taste and they don’t go bad fast. You definitely should come to Spain and have a gastronomic tour around! ☺️ Saludos from Valencia!
The prices here in Spain have gone up a lot over the last few years though. My weekly shop Mercadona/DIA/AlCampo. I recon twice what it was two to three years ago.
Hello. I recently went on holiday to the United States with my family and I have been able to see for myself the difference in prices. In my case I have been in the area of Washington D.C., New York City, Long Island and Philadelphia. But we should also talk about the difference in salaries. I have a friend who has lived in Long Island for a few years and at the moment he has a job in the service sector with a not very high salary. It would be more or less like my case in Spain. He earns between $1000-1200 a week. $4000-4800 a month. The state retains 25% and he has to pay for health insurance of about $1000. He has between $2000-2600 left for the month. I earn about $1300 a month after taxes. It is 40% more expensive to buy in the USA, but salaries are between 54% and 100% higher. And that is comparing the most basic salaries. The more specialized the better the salary.
@@tomaspellonbaranda314 Yes, yes, without a doubt health care services are very expensive in the USA, that is why I said in my message that my friend pays a monthly health insurance of 1000$. I did not mention the subject of education because both in Spain and in the USA there is free public education up to high school. But it is true that a university degree is very expensive compared to the price paid in Spain. In Spain, a veterinary degree can cost between 6000€-10000€ in a public university up to 30000€ in a private university. From what I have seen in the USA, it is between 200000$ -250000$ or more expensive
Mercadona is like Aldi or Lidle, so it's normal that it's cheap. Other supermarkets and grocery stores are not that cheap and the quality is also better.
Well, two aspects we can't forget: that the salary in Spain is lower than the US in general terms and that Mercadona is one of the cheapest supermarkets. If you went to Eroski, for example, you'd see higher prices and much better quality in the products

I am living on Maui, Hawaii. Once a year I visit my best friends In Bavaria, Southern Germany. Whenever I go shopping at Aldi, I am in shock. Positive shock, that is. I fill my cart with everything I want, including booze, fresh baked bread, sweet tomatoes, whatever, and it all comes out to 40 Euro, around $ 43. On Maui the same stuff would cost me $ 150, and even $8/pound organic tomatoes taste like crap. I often see tourists, standing in front of the supermarket after their first shopping trip, studying their receipt. They just cannot fathom, that they just paid $ 200 for stuff that would cost them half on the mainland. Guess where I will enjoy my retirement.
Well yeah, I mean everything is more expensive on the islands because of the transportation cost. But I can imagine faces of the people that come to buy food there, it must be shocking 🥲 Bavaria beautiful! 😍 Kudos!

You are buying better quality for less...In the USA to get better products you need to get organic and this doubles the price... I know... I live in the US
I can only assume that in the US everything is more expensive because many cities are large and you have to go everywhere by car and logically truck transportation has an extra cost, I suppose that is why.(Greetings from Huelva - Andalucia).

Has ido acaso a Lidel, Albert Hein, Carrefour o Waldmart?? Poco has viajado.
Ok, but bear in mind the miserable living conditions large parts of the US population are living in. It obviously depends on the place but I wonder how the poor people make a living there.

Never happens here in Spain, and we also keep everything fresh and nice and do groceries every 2/3 days. We stopped freezing meat and I finally can keep some vegetables out of fridge for the taste and they don’t go bad fast.
You definitely should come to Spain and have a gastronomic tour around! ☺️ Saludos from Valencia!
@2:20 lmao as an American I loved that line too true
The prices here in Spain have gone up a lot over the last few years though. My weekly shop Mercadona/DIA/AlCampo. I recon twice what it was two to three years ago.

Did you consider the taxes in USA prices?
Now, add into the equation payment of education and health care (once you need it). That 54% is reduced to 0% and even goes into negative %
In Spain no medical debt or need medical insurance.... public health service 🇪🇸🇪🇺👍🍷👍
And you don't need gofund me to pay your medical bills.
Mercadona is like Aldi or Lidle, so it's normal that it's cheap. Other supermarkets and grocery stores are not that cheap and the quality is also better.
Mercadona is way better than Aldi or Lidl
Well, two aspects we can't forget: that the salary in Spain is lower than the US in general terms and that Mercadona is one of the cheapest supermarkets. If you went to Eroski, for example, you'd see higher prices and much better quality in the products
¿Eroski? Higher?

But I can imagine faces of the people that come to buy food there, it must be shocking 🥲
Bavaria beautiful! 😍 Kudos!

You should also talk about the quality of food in Wallmat , it SUCKS!
Salaries in US are 3 times bigger
You are buying better quality for less...In the USA to get better products you need to get organic and this doubles the price... I know... I live in the US
@@amparoalvarez9001 En eso tienes razón y es un problema serio. You are right. Is a serious problem.
That was cheap for Wal-Mart I usually pay a lot more then that and that getting their brand of stuff .

Has ido acaso a Lidel, Albert Hein, Carrefour o Waldmart??
