Thank you for these thorough instructions! You were more helpful than the company's instructions for a newbie like me. Also hello to a fellow North Carolinian! I'm in Wilmington. Thanks for boosting my confidence with gardening! 🌸
I bought these jiffy pucks and had NO IDEA where to start. Your video was the first one I watched and you made it so easy!! I now have my first garden growing! Thank you for all your help !
I bought a 36 puck package today from the same store, and your video came very handy and on time. I planted 12 different veggies and herbs. Hopefully within 2 weeks I am expecting some green and purple babies. Thanks a lot for sharing bud. Regards from Canada . . . .
I live in Elkin, NC and I’m starting my own tiny farm at 22. I wish I would have started earlier but I am still fairly new to this but it’s so excited and the accomplishment from being self sufficient is amazing.
Very good video, I am a beginner gardener. Video is very helpful as my father was a gardener, trying to remember everything he taught me too! Will continue to watch your videos!
We use the jiffy peat pods to start our garden every year. We only have a backyard garden for now, until we move to our property. They are perfect for whst we have been doing for years. Thanks for sharing Josh.
You are awesome and explain things in a way that is easy to understand. Thank you for sharing this. I look forward to your other videos. I'm starting my first little garden this year and I'm nervous...LOL
Thanks for the tutorial. I just bought 3 72 packs hopefully it will be enough for our huge garden. I did 2 rows of each vegetable. Hopefully this helps last year I did the toilet paper trick it was good but I wanted to actually start my seeds this year. Thanks for the tips!
starting seeds outdoors...its last week in April San Diego..50s nights 60s to 70s days.... The advice I got from the garden center was to open the top days, water once a day...then they agreed with me to close the cover nights and cover with a folded over blanket... the cover fogs over during the day if I don't take it off!!
Stoney Ridge Farmer you’re doing an awesome thing. My wife and I are trying to do the same but on a smaller scale. Leave the corporate world, downsize and enjoy life more. Love your channel. All the best!!!
hey Josh just a little bit of advice that might help the next time you start the little green houses for pre planting your garden try using warm water on the seed pods..
I was very hesitant to start this project as I do not have a green thumb(I've actually killed a cactus somehow)but your video is very helpful. Thank you for posting this and wish me luck
I bought six beef steak and six hot jalapeño plants in a tray and I planted them back in March. we planted spinach leaf lettuce and radishes too and they are all sprouted and up. I have covered them a couple of times when temps got close to freezing. Then I uncover them in the morning. I see one more freeze on Saturday morning at 7 o'clock. I dont see any more freezes in the forecast after that. My plants are growing and are establishing them selfs. I like to put coffee cans with both ends cut out around my plants to help watering to hold water around the plant and also so I can build up dirt around the stems. Tomatoes like extra dirt around them so they can make more roots. I also put some lime in the soil for fun. I put a table spoon of epson salt in a gallon of water and water them once every two weeks. Also I like to mix up some Tums all crunched up and spread them around the plant and also I like to put some crunched up in a spray bottle and spray the leaves. Dont do this very often though it can get too much. My plants look pretty happy they been growing for a couple of weeks out in my garden. Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Living in Texas but born in NC [Union County]-(noticed your sticker on the truck)! What is your reason for doing this video (occupation, hobby ect...)? Got the Jiffey seed starter kits. Thanks to you, know what to do with my new hobby!
Do you plant in the ground by the signs? I remember my family doing that. What type of green bean do you plant? My daddy and uncles always planted an old-fashioned bean called turkey beans. They are SO yummy. I could eat maters, beans and sweet corn 7 days a week. Throw in some cornbread and you got it made!
I think the Independence Day tomato seeds are also called 4th of July. That means you should have tomatoes by the beginning of July. They are great, small tomatoes and very tasty. I grow them here in New Mexico.
Can you use cupcake trays with your own starter dirt? What veg/spice dirt do you recommend? Also, do you keep them right by a window immediately or just on a counter for some time?
Each pellet needs 1/8th a cup of water , or you can just pour 5 1/4th in the tray for all 36 pellets. You transplant the seeds when they get their second set of leaves/real leaves
Thanks for the videos! I wonder when you put the greenhouse inside / outside, when you put the cover on / off. As I understand: you first put the greenhouse cover on until you see the sprouts pop up from the soil. Then you open the lid and put them outside in semi-light. After a while (? days) you put them under sunlight. Is that correct?
When would be the best time to start seeds before you plant in the ground? I live where we experience winter/snow. Add I usually start start seeds about the end of March or middle of April
Typically I'll start my seeds when the weather is in the 50s or 60s for highs so I can put them out on the porch in the sun during the day...just depends on where you live. If I had a greenhouse I'd probably start them much earlier
First time gardener and I used this kit. I left my pods out in direct sun just after some seeds were starting to sprout. I’m afraid I may have baked them. Can I save them by any chance? If not will the other pods that haven’t sprouted yet still grow?
I am incompetent when it comes to planting seeds and pretty much anything plant related. My question is when do I water my kit again? I followed the directions on the box and put the 4.5 cups of water and all of it was absorbed. My kit is in a room that is around 70-72 degrees with a couple of hours of indirect sunlight. So how do I know when it is time to water and how much should I use?
wet....let them expand...plant seeds....cover with the lid and don't water until they look kinda dry on top...you can overwater and cause mold/mildew.....let them start to dry a bit on the top edge
Distilled or spring water if you have city water...well water is just fine...you just want to eliminate the chlorine in the water...that's the issue...not filtered city water or purified water.....well water, spring water or distilled water
Any thoughts on whether you can phase these pods well? I don't have a very big set up but want to make sure I have some stuff ready for harvest every couple of weeks. I was thinking of removing some pods and only leaving the ones I need add first then adding the next batch two weeks later. Thoughts?
I think you should’ve followed the directions I had the same packet and I measured out my water, poured it in slowly, pull back the netting and fluff up the pest Miss...BTW you’re supposed to leave water in the bottom it’s going wick up through that felt mat. I don’t know, I think if you want to get free items to promote-you should probably do step-by-step as per the manufacturer.
So....what I'm hearing is that you read the directions on the box....so why are you here? To pick apart a helpful video? This is what I do and it works...maybe my next video will include a lesson on MANNERS? Or did you read those directions already?
Hey, I bought a ton of jifft peat seed starters.. Can i start them outside using the cover as a greenhouse? At what temperature is it safe to take the plastic ocver off while my seeds are germinating/sprouting?
You need to keep the temps above 60 degrees and keep out of direct sunlight...we just put a table by our back door and once they sprout we take the cover off and provide ventilation. I did another video on this for this season that has much more information....check out the channel I posted it about a week ago
Yep....soap and water lol.....I do know Eastwood makes "rust inhibitor" that stops rust and POR 15 has some products that work to stop rust ...my buddy is a body man...he uses POR 15 on all his restorations
fill them once....cover and let the seed sprout...then open the lid and let fresh air inside...water as needed..but don't keep them soaking wet or youll get fungus....the plants will show ya when they're too dry...takes time to learn this so play with it a little bit
Stoney Ridge Farmer thanks you sir. This is the third year I’ve been doing my garden and it’ll be my first time growing directly from seed. In the years past I had purchased developed plants and would just harden them off until it was time to transplant them.

speaking of german shepherds i had to rehome my gshepherd a few months back he was doing good their till the new owner left him unattended outside for two hours and he followed them and got hit he was still allive but he had to be put down because of his hips and u know how german shepherd hips have a lot of problems so know hes in a place up above
I'm sorry that no one told you, but only humans are created in the image of God, thus the only one's with souls and the promise of an 'up above'. It is sad when your dog dies, been there too many times in my years.
Not one seed in my greenhouse sprouted and I’m baffled cause the direct sewn seeds did fine they seem to get dry fairly fast and I kept them outdoors any ideas why or do you think the seeds are still valid in there
Water once....let them spout up to about 1 inch tall...uncover in a well ventilated area or place outside in a warm shady spot...water as the pucks turn light brown. Do not over water or you'll have fungus....in other words water sparingly once uncovered and keep air moving over them...probably once every 2 days depending on the environment
I like your videos but I’m so confused there’s so many videos out there with contradicting advice. Heck yeah! I got mine at Lowe's! Good results every year!
Very happy with Jiffy Products for sure! Can't wait to get the garden in shape for the year!!

Thx
Very easy
Just bought this
Can’t wait to start 🤩
Informative video. You’ll have a great dove hunt over those sunflower plants! Good eating with fresh vegetables.
I give 5 stars on the bag, plants shot right up the dirt is way better with water retaining and draining

Must be in a warmer place than NC
After 3 years still an amazing informative video!!
When you put the jiffy pellets into a dome in a dark area until they sprout does the dome need to have holes for airflow?
I am ole farm boy i put my garden corn seed in the frezzer after iam done. When u plant next year they will all be moistfor next planting
Yep....nothing wrong with that for sure!
Thank you, I just got the 72 one and I learned a lot from your video. 😉
This is good information I used the Jiffy pods for the first time this year and they are doing well.
Starting seeds is a lot of fun. I can't wait to see your large garden after all those tomatoes are in the ground.
Hi..... Thank you 🎥👍👍👍
I'm obsessed with how he has his own theme song
Just bought everything I need to start my seeds
I have already planted alot of things in my garden keep the videos coming
ya must be in a warmer place than me...we had 30 degree temps last night
We did to we planted earlier in the month and we covered it up when it got cold i live about 15 minutes from goldsboro nc
Living in Texas but born in NC [Union County]-(noticed your sticker on the truck)! What is your reason for doing this video (occupation, hobby ect...)? Got the Jiffey seed starter kits. Thanks to you, know what to do with my new hobby!
Great Video! I appreciate the time you take to make these very educational videos!

Man thankyou sso much for your video, I just spent 40k on farm equipment and have no idea wtf I'm doing but I just know I have to grow lol
Never used these jiffy before i may have to start x love your Vlog x

Normally we plant a "half runner" green bean....the garden is an ever changing thing...lots more details to come
I think the Independence Day tomato seeds are also called 4th of July. That means you should have tomatoes by the beginning of July. They are great, small tomatoes and very tasty. I grow them here in New Mexico.
Thanks for posting this video. Very useful! How often do you water the pellets after the first one?
I gave you thumbs up 👍 just because of Lexi. She’s a sweetie.

Awesome ...welcome to the channel...lots of stuff going on here brotha
Hey Josh 🇺🇸where did you find these ?? Thank you. WOOOOOO!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸

Can you use cupcake trays with your own starter dirt? What veg/spice dirt do you recommend? Also, do you keep them right by a window immediately or just on a counter for some time?
How much water to put. And how long to keep it in container before you plant on the ground.
Each pellet needs 1/8th a cup of water , or you can just pour 5 1/4th in the tray for all 36 pellets. You transplant the seeds when they get their second set of leaves/real leaves

can you use a grow light while they are in the jiffy green house (portable) kit? Or do i wait for growth?
Sure you can start seeds using a grow light
You should wait until they sprout before exposing them to light.
When would be the best time to start seeds before you plant in the ground? I live where we experience winter/snow. Add I usually start start seeds about the end of March or middle of April

Hello, question; at what point do you water the pod. Mine's are still wet or damp, but I am wondering if i should saturate them again. Thanks.
wet....let them expand...plant seeds....cover with the lid and don't water until they look kinda dry on top...you can overwater and cause mold/mildew.....let them start to dry a bit on the top edge
Last video you stressed using distilled water, but this video you just use the hose... is there a huge difference in the growth of the plants?
Distilled or spring water if you have city water...well water is just fine...you just want to eliminate the chlorine in the water...that's the issue...not filtered city water or purified water.....well water, spring water or distilled water
Any thoughts on whether you can phase these pods well? I don't have a very big set up but want to make sure I have some stuff ready for harvest every couple of weeks. Once you plant your seeds, do you nee to water your seeds after a few days? I'm a 1st time gardener
nope...you won't need to water for a few weeks...about a week after seeds sprout in most cases
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer okay awesome thanks for getting back to me
Very cool vlog thanks homeboy I use something like that but they are called root riot
Cool I'll have to look it up!
Can these kits be used for succulent propagation?
I would try it!
How often do the pellets need water again after you put seeds in ? Thank you very much
Wow! That's awesome! I know what I'll be doing next year.
Very helpful thank you
Thanks refreshing my memories.....
Glad to help!
Great video .... Thank you 😊👍🏻
Love it!! So excited

Hi
Its my first time, i would like to know if i can add water after seeding do we need always cover them up . Thank you
I don't have the tomato size peat pellets for my tomato seeds. Do you think the regular size pellets will still work just as well?
yep...I think they actually work better
Hey, I bought a ton of jifft peat seed starters.. Can i start them outside using the cover as a greenhouse? At what temperature is it safe to take the plastic ocver off while my seeds are germinating/sprouting?

Can I use a jiffy pellet in a winter sowing application? Thanks
uh.....not sure I get what ur saying..please explain
I have a dog named Lexie too! I’ve never met another dog with that name. 😁
Stoney ridge farmer. Do you know any good products that keep your vehicles from rusting or at least slow the rusting down?
Yep....soap and water lol.....I do know Eastwood makes "rust inhibitor" that stops rust and POR 15 has some products that work to stop rust ...my buddy is a body man...he uses POR 15 on all his restorations
Hello. Great energy! Question..Do you have to rewater the peat pods after you first plant?
Do we need to water after sending? How often?
I have a portable greenhouse (from aldis) . Could I put some of these in there?
Nice way to plant veggies, but how many chemicals are in those puks?
They are pure peat moss compressed
I planet my last night should I put them on the outside or can I leave them inside where’s it’s between 70-75 degrees
He huh heh heh.. he said POT.. he huh heh heh. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 Rock On Dude!!
Peat...Puck...Pot....YEAHAWWW!

My greenhouse came with a gray mat. What's it for?
How often did you water the pods when you first planted the seeds?

Hey Josh, I've been seeing a lot of adds right in the middle of your videos rather than just at the beginning. If you are aware and set it up that way, then never mind. Just want to make sure your getting the revenue off those adds.
hmmmm....I guess...it's tough to keep up with it all

what is the felt mat for in the self watering greenhouse
Please tell me about that watering wand.
What's the deer repellant your going to use ....
Video coming out in the next few days!
Hey Mate, How often do you water them??
Water once....let them spout up to about 1 inch tall...uncover in a well ventilated area or place outside in a warm shady spot...water as the pucks turn light brown. Do not over water or you'll have fungus....in other words water sparingly once uncovered and keep air moving over them...probably once every 2 days depending on the environment
Stoney Ridge Farm, Wooooooo 👍
Thanks for the vlog
I like your videos but I’m so confused there’s so many videos out there with contradicting advice.
