Remember preordering it and it coming late and being heartbroken but when I got it it was a really peaceful and happy time in my life and probably the last time I was a child. Love ❤️

Yeah I was almost lvl 25 when I went to tranquility lane, sadly I was too high of a lvl to meet the Lyons Pride and couldn't talk to Three Dog, I killed all the mutans and behemoth alone but it was not really worth it.
Institute is an interior cell. This means you can't just noclip under ground to get there. You have to use some kind of door, teleportation acts like it in case of Institute. @@Raooka
@@Raooka with mods you can go to the Institute but it acts broken. Some dialogue will work, some wont, but you cant progress the main story without triggering Kellogs event. Or just more mods lol.

The way I remember my first Fallout 3 playthrough, I went straight to Rivet City from the vault, it was a terrifying journey. I walked the wrong way, didn't see megaton and just kept walking until I found safety. Anyway when I got there a woman brightly told me she knew where my dad was. "That was easy" I thought, somehow forgetting the hours I spent crouch walking past Centaurs, Death Claws, Super Mutants and Feral Ghouls. Is this a false memory? It seems unbelievable that you could do this, or that I would.
not a false memory hahahah i recently replayed fo3 and its been over a decade and i accidentally done the same thing like i knew where threedog was and all that but i started pottering around megaton doing sidequests and the quests for moira at craterside supply lead you to rivet city to finish them and get the perks off her and i spoke to dr Li without remembering that she was who i was supposed to be looking for anyway and i ended up doing the main story from there. downside of it tho is that you gotta go back and do the 3dog quest killing the behemoth etc anyway if you want to be able to connect to Galaxy News Radio from anywhere on the map so you can listen to those tunes while you play
In basically all my playthroughs now, I ignore Preston until I've taken care of the Nuka-World DLC. You can do the whole thing, get the perks from the gangs, then kill all the gangs. If you do it this way, Preston will never get mad at you for being a Raider leader.
For me it didn't work that way, unfortunately. I thought it would, and everything was normal until he got to Sanctuary, where he then said he heard I was the leader of Nuka World and that if we were going to keep talking, I would have to take them out. Similar to what happens after he's already a companion, but you can still recruit him after since he doesn't feel as betrayed. Of course this was SEVERAL years ago, so my memory of exact words is shoddy. EDIT: I think actually things ARE what you said, sorry, 2 AM commenting makes me skip over details
i think it's a shame you're forced to take over settlements in the commonwealth or kill everyone. i personally use mods to skip raiding the commonwealth but it baffles me they thought it was a good choice to force players into this position. although most people don't care if preston hates them.
I did that went to Nick first and the game decided not to allow Piper to join me. She'll say if you do the interview she'd join you but the game glitches and the dialogue for her to join your party glitches and she won't be available as a companion. I also tried it on another playthrough and it did the same thing. But if you want to cut the story short you can rescue Nick and before talking to him at his office go to Kellogg's house and master pick lock his house. It's like cito in Nuka-World if you kill Cito you'll have to do the investigation yourself. Pretty much how you would do it if Cito was alive. But the kicker is you'll have to do it without mission markers. Pretty much doing mission blindly.
I'm currently on a HEAVILY modded playthrough and haven't even talked to Codsworth yet ( at lvl 42). Just doing the quests provided by the mods. I think I'll just do this instead of dealing with all the vanilla BS leading up to it.
Have you ever played fallout new vegas or 3? The while franchise basically let’s you do what you want from the start just without telling you! In new Vegas you can head straight to vegas get in with the NCR and take the monorail will take about 20 mins then just forget house and head straight for the Tops casino to confront benny! I’ll leave it there for now if you’ve never played it 😊

I usually go to mass fusion, get Maccready northeast of it, then get nick valentine southwest of it, then head to diamond city. As for the piper scene, the door is already open for her and shes right there. And she silently gives you the quest
Honestly it's stuff like this that amazes me that the developers think of these little details. I'm sure a lot of them would just make the vault inaccessible until the quest is active.
Imo, best way to start nick valentine quest is go to the memory den first, then succeed the speech check with the owner, and she will you give you the information about nick. I don't know why but it just so cool to introduce him with that way.

I had built my character from the ground up and had everything, however the amount of work arounds I used caused my game to always get stuck after the main story. Eventually the quests that are non ending, like the ones from Preston or procter teagen etc, they just kept sending me to the same thing over and over
Nick valentine imo is one of the best followers/npcs so many different dialogs and interactions with everything. My favorite is when nick first sees the prydwen enter the commonwealth and drops one of the coldest lines 💀

If you show up to the museum of freedom with the power armor and minigun from the roof, the dialog form preston and sturges changes. Turns out you can access the roof from the church next-door. Get the roof of the church, and jump on the tail of the vertibird.
There was a huge battle between DC guards and Rust Devils in my current play. This totally made the dialogue skip between the mayor and Piper lol I had to instigate the rest of it by talking to the mayor but I haven’t went inside yet so I’m gonna find Nick now first thanks ha
I like skipping sanctuary and concord all together and going straight to good neighbor, you get to use the memory den to show the lady there your traumatic vault incident and she will direct you to find Nick. No minuteman, no settlements constantly being marked by Preston just story and coping with PTSD.
I have never gone straight to diamond city, and get the quest, because usually on the way to where I’m trying to get cait, we’re already in the common so, might as well, mainly because I want to explore, and I think anything around Swan is probably going to be pretty OP, And by the time I find Nick Valentine is the time when my side questing is over
Yea because while they are making a sandbox to do things in any order you choose, the changes will always be minor most of the time. It's partly laziness and partly practicality. It be pointless to make massive branching narratives that 99% of players will never see

I like skipping sanctuary and concord all together and going straight to good neighbor, you get to use the memory den to show the lady there your traumatic vault incident and she will direct you to find Nick. No minuteman, no settlements constantly being marked by Preston just story and coping with PTSD.
I have never gone straight to diamond city, and get the quest, because usually on the way to where I’m trying to get cait, we’re already in the common so, might as well, mainly because I want to explore, and I think anything around Swan is probably going to be pretty OP, And by the time I find Nick Valentine is the time when my side questing is over

Yea because while they are making a sandbox to do things in any order you choose, the changes will always be minor most of the time.
It's partly laziness and partly practicality.
