Out for 6 years and still has some of the best specs out there: Master Volume, Hi & Lo inputs, Reverb, Tremolo, FX Loop, … sounds great and the attenuator works perfectly … 2 thumbs up
That my friend was a thoroughly fantastic job demoing a lot of the available sounds from that amp. I've come to realize that Vox tone is my tone of choice . I never heard a bad sound on your video and some of those tones with both the Paul and the Strat were "the" sound of rock & roll. great job with the audio and all around thanks to you .
A couple of weeks ago, I really wanted an Orange Rocker 15, but after watching a few Vox demos, I’m no longer sure I do. My first amp, bought 50 years ago, was an AC30TB. Think I might just finish on a Vox too, an AC15; the tone really is superb. Cool. 😎😎
One more thing Vox and Fender (any Fender really) are a match made in Guitar heaven. So good .But now I see the Les Paul sounds amazing 👏 also. Go Vox for being so versatile
who could not like that sound its amazing i overlooked vox amps but recently accidently tried out a 15 watt nightrain really good sound but no reverb, im guessing these will provide thats why im checking these bad boys out
Just picked one up...though made in China version from the mid 2000s...the reverb and tremelo are outstanding...just incredible sounding amp for the money...hope it lasts!
The tone cut was all the way to the left, meaning the low end was cut and the treble was boosted. I know Vox has a reputation for "sparkly" highs, but you can tune that, just like any other amp.
Just got myself a used AC-30 Custom Classic 2...it's pretty cool even though made in China...sounded great in the store...couldn't help myself...had to take it home...has some character...beat up a bit on the outside but just sings! Hope the parts aren't low quality...knew nothing about these models so took a chance when I pulled the trigger the three price was right and it definitely had some "mojo"...thanks for sharing some cool tones...I love the Tremelo in it, too! Rock on!😎🎸🤙
I have a Chinese AC30 custom classic also and a UK built AC15. The AC30 is every bit as good as the UK Vox. There is a lot of bullshit out there regarding the Chinese amps. Nothing at all wrong with them.
It took me a couple years to figure out how to really play my amp.I feel you play a Vox amp sort of like you play your instrument. There are a lot of layers to a Vox.Does that make sense? VOX ON!
Very good demo And nice cuz you played solos AND some rhythm stuff to give us a great idea what those amps can do. You played many styles, tried all the effects, and one of the best demos I've seen and Heard, so GREAT JOB !
We all hear things differently... and what I'm using to play this isn't ideal. --Blueback vs Greenback ? --> I couldn't find any natural quality in the blue that couldn't just as easily be tweaked out of the Green. IMO
You didn't jump the channels together on the AC30? Why not? I have a Vox AC30C2 and I always jump the channels and plug the guitar directly into the High output of the Top Boost channel. Stack both of those channel volumes and run the Master Volume wide open then. It's the only way to run an AC30 for classic rock tones.
I must be one of a few people that doesn't like the vox tone thinks it's how the eq is shelved, the ac15 sounded better, I found the les Paul sounded lots better than the strat in my opinion. Neither amp gave me the rush out and buy me factor though.
I have both a AC15HW and a vintage AC30, as well as having had a newer ac15c2 - the new korgs "c" series do not sound like a proper vox. My Ac15HW had several Mods to get it to the right sound, and my AC30 is paired with a Celestion Blue and G12 Anniversary which is a nice rock sound going between REM, u2 and foo fighters
I have a standard AC30C2. I wish I bought the head, but that's a different story. My question is.. How can you take the sound? Isn't it deafening with those settings? Are you using an attenuator?
Most definitely Tony! One of the greatest living legends in jazz guitar, John Scofield, uses a Vox. I can vouch for the fact that Scofield's amp sounds absolutely incredible live...very liquid & expressive! A caveat....the earliest AC30s & the original AC15s had a channel with an EF-86 tube for the Channel 1 pre-amp stage, and that may be an important consideration. The EF-86 has a 'sweetness' in its tone & and a complex array of beautiful even-ordered harmonics when pushed. IMHO, this makes the EF-86 great for jazz with both single coils & humbuckers. It's my favorite Vox tone for many genres! (Perhaps someone else could pitch in & less us know if Scofield or other jazz guitarists use/used the EF-86 channel in a Vox amp..) Unfortunately, none of the currently manufactured Vox amps have an EF-86 channel. To get the EF-86, you would need to find a older used special editions of the AC-15 or AC-30 (forget about getting an original AC-30/4 from the late 50s, unless you win a big lottery! lol) A much better option is to get a great boutique amp that has both EF-86 and 12AX7 channels, and EL-84s in the power amp section. Both of these options are definitely more expensive, but the quality & tones rre far superior to these Vox amps & they will last you a lifetime. FWIW, the "London Pro" by "65 Amps" is my favourite of the EF-86/12AX7/EL-84 boutiques. It is quite versatile & it sounds great for jazz through using its 'low' input. FYI, there are several vids on YT that demonstrate the London Pro's great jazz tone, and I would encourage you to check them out. I hope this helps. :)
The custom series ac amps sound like an ice pick to my ears I'd rather go with the chinese handwired series they are not that much more expensive and offer alot of modern options with the classic vox tonal character
Just got an AC-30 Custom Classic 2 yesterday...amazing amp for the money..still can't believe the price I paid though used and "well loved" (obviously gigged a lot) it's got impressive versatility and the sound...The Sound is there!
Thats the problem with Korg's version - they made what was originally a darker amp when over driven into this ice picky bright amp. But if you cut the bright cap, you get closer to the proper sound. But at bedroom levels it gets too dark, but then, who wants to play an AC30 at bedroom levels?
Bernie Duggan it’s not as bright as you might think....as an owner I’ve noticed it seems a lot of people on RUclips run these amps brighter than they should...possibly do to the stereotype of them being overly bright....but my experience has been that they are quite warm and punchy
This video was 3 times longer than it should've been. Didn't need to apply reverb or vibrato to every setting. Clean, full gain & somewhere in the middle gain range. Show what the tone controls & cut do with each guitar and DONE. 5 minutes tops. geez.

This is how you do amp demo video. Outstanding quality!

Fantastic! This demo is exactly how I wish all amp demos/reviews are done!
gxvzhx the bxd

Thank you for the exceptional review. The ringing chords allow us to really hear the amp. Thanks again.

Love Vox preferred the AC 15 didn't sound as spiky as the AC30 in my ears but it's all subjective
The tone cut was all the way to the left, meaning the low end was cut and the treble was boosted. I know Vox has a reputation for "sparkly" highs, but you can tune that, just like any other amp.
@@bboyzagy yeah he only turned the tone cut on the ac15.
Great review for great amps, well done again Neville!

Love the royal purple 💜. VOX rocks 🎸. Your guitar has aged beautifully. Great job. Great sounds. All around vox on!
No yapping, showing what knob changes do to the sound, GREAT VIDEO
Very good demo

It´s a very good Demo of that Vox custom Head you can´t do that better
We all hear things differently... and what I'm using to play this isn't ideal. --Blueback vs Greenback ? --> I couldn't find any natural quality in the blue that couldn't just as easily be tweaked out of the Green. IMO

Dave Cebrowski just guess I prefer fender/supro sounds you're right though something doesn't sound quite right with these two.
Boxy! I mean Voxy!
Great tone! Cant get my AC30 anywhere close ;-)
Love my Vox AC15, but stock the reverb sucks and the tubes needed an upgrade. I made some before & after videos on the mods I did. See my channel.
I have a standard AC30C2. I wish I bought the head, but that's a different story. My question is.. How can you take the sound? Isn't it deafening with those settings? Are you using an attenuator?
The heads have built in attenuator, the control is on the back of the unit, I'm surprised it isn't shown in this video.
just plug a 16 ohm cabinet... and you get the same amount of volume of an ac15 with 8 ohm cab
wish vox would make guitars again.
yep got three of them two 55's and an hdc77
Kera Atkins I read that as "I wish Vox would make guitars great again" lol
They just started making guitars again by the way
Is it a decent real spring reverb tank and valve driven tremolo? Thanks
Didn't mention what cab both amps are being played through.....
You can see a matching Vox cab in the video …
That sound at 5:55 to me gives me a major tone boner....I'm renting an AC30 tomorrow and if I can get that sound I'm buying one
What speakers were used in the cab?
Greenbacks.. :)
if these amps take pedals ie send return
then for me ive got to get one
Why wouldn't they take pedals? They will take any pedals you can throw at them....
Reverb tank ?
Agus G.T., yes, Accutronics.
Can one play jazz, with the AC30 ?

Hello Derek, thank you for your answer, i gonna check te "65 Amp", it helps me a lot ! Greetings from Belgium, peace !!!!!!
A red Strat like Gary.
Thanx, but how about humbuckers
❤❤🍷🍷🤘
that 30w head sounds wretched, talk about harsh and ear fatiguing !!

too bright!

You can stop watching it any time you want, moron. You do know that, don't you?
