I'm from Scotland and had the privilege of visiting San Francisco 20 years ago. What an amazingly beautiful place, relatively small, with a quirky cosmopolitan vibe. Always wanted to visit again, however I wouldn't go now. So sad to see a great city fall into such, self-inflicted, decline and neglect 😢

I went to SFO last month. I was shocked and disappointed. It was dirty, felt dangerous, so many homeless people. I went home a day early

People need to know that drugs causes rebounding effects.
So did alcohol and other addictive behaviors.(such as addictive gambling, gaming, shopping…etc. as long as it is addictive)
If one used those to calm themselves or make themselves happier, the rebounding effects gonna make the problem worse than is initially was in the mid to long run.
That’s one significant reason why junkies use heavier doses and use mix different drugs at the same time, even they knew it would probably kxll them.
Only using one kind of drugs is not sufficient to ease the pain of living to heavy users.
It is really hard to detox. One better not go that route in the beginning

As a UK resident, this is as heartbreaking to watch as it is shocking. Over here San Francisco was always viewed as one of the most attractive destinations to visit in the US...a must-see city. I truly hope they can turn the city around and fast.

I don't live in America, but it's interesting to watch their society collapse. This is all by design......create the problem first then sell the people a solution they would never accept under normal circumstances.
I recall in the 70s the whole movement to close the institutions that housed mentally ill patients and put them on the streets. They would get a stipend and they would be monitored by Welfare services. That was the plan. It would be interesting to see how much money was spent on these institutions and the amount of money now spent on welfare services and how much actually goes to these people. My guess is that in the 70s more money ended up helping these people and today we are spending more money just keeping a bloated bureaucracy that helps no one.
... and the “solution” just exacerbates the problem because it treats symptoms and ignores the root causes.

Born and raised in So Cal and I’ve also lived in San Francisco- left CA in 2003. I’m very proud to say that I have voted Republican since I was 18 years old in 1992, and had it been up to Republicans our once Beautiful state would have NEVER turned into this degenerate mess.

I lived in San Fran for 2 yrs(2015/16), It was the worse place I've lived. It Stinks, the Traffic is 5am to 9pm. the Toll cost starts to Suck! people are Rude, I will never go back there. I had 3 cars broken into. I will never miss SF. IT is to Expensive, but it's not worth the cost for semi good weather.

The first time my brother drove into SF his car was broken into less than 5 minutes after he parked. Total damage and loss of personal property was over $1,000. These thieves need to be caught, waterboarded, and publically flogged. Afer that, they need to be punished.

This is what happens in every city/area where they lessen criminal penalties for drugs and set up those free sites to hand out needles because they want "clean" drug abusers. And allowing the drug addicts to set up homeless camps everywhere while handing them free tax payer money is just an insult to the hard working people who are productive members of society.

I worked in The City for 15 years, left during the pandemic and will never go back. Unless you live or work there you have no idea how bad it is, I saw some awful things I can’t unsee. Last year I move out of the state, a state I lived in for 57 years and loved. I will for the first time in my lifetime vote Republican.

I understand your position. But voting republican will not solve the problem. Have you looked at what the Republicans are doing to the states where they hold power? How about the congress and its war on rights across the board? The issue here is drug abuse. We must solve the cause of that before anything will be solved. Voting Republican won't solve that at all because they will just blame anyone and everyone and not support ANY policy to address it. It's not like there isn't massive drug abuse and homelessness in Red States.

I have never met one that wasn’t sexually abused as a child.

It isn't that difficult, these people need to be put in an institution with 3 meals a day, mental health/addiction counselling, a clean bed, clothed so they can function. This problem is the result of closing down institutions and treating addicts like they deserve freedom. They don't, not until they are clean and can help themselves. Giving them freedom and a place to continue their addictions is an infringement of the rest of the population. They need help, not freedom!

The people there have to do it
Teachers are more concerned about getting sued or getting into some other kind of trouble with students rather than just teaching. Problematic students are allowed to run rampant through the school and teachers must spend most of their time dealing with these distractions.
I'm sure the gender studies programs are flourishing.

There should be a federal intervention in SF, those corrupt people in charge should be removed, it shouldn't be allowed to have this kind of incompetent people running a city, especially such an important city for America like SF. The residents are apathetic and not realizing how bad things are and how much worse it will get if a drastic change of course doesn't take place fast.

I'm a teacher who works with at-risk children. Teachers cannot fix society's ills, which leads back to the family.
I used to visit SF twice a year for decades, not any more. It's just too scary. Why hand over such a beautiful city to the degenerates? I guess tourists are no longer wanted. Bye, Ill go elsewhere for vacations.

I was born and raised in SF, currently working in SF and I can’t even explain how bad things have gotten. You can’t even walk on the side walk because they’re filled with tents, drug addicts, and dealers. It’s unbelievable the priority given to addicts over the law abiding, tax paying, city revenue producing citizens.
Pretty soon there will not be enough tax paying people left in the city.
The way it is going the tax base stores will close their doors and move elsewhere. They will take with them the jobs and the revenue they shell out ! Then more people will come out and loot the mom and pop stores.
Once that happen ,the area where this looting takes place, will never recover.
Look at the Watts area in Los Angeles where they had the looting in the 80th. That area never recovered. As in so many places in cities where they had riots, they never recovered. That is ashamed.

How sad to hear about SF such a beautiful place,president needs to send in the national guard and get all the homeless out .
No one should have to live on the street. Having a home is a human need on many levels besides just the physical. We hear a lot of blaming of these victims. But nothing is said about the price gouging landlords. We have been in a national affordable housing crisis for a number of years, but San Francisco and New York City have the highest rents on Earth. We are in a primitive economic system that protects profit above all else. We need to address these high rents and stop blaming the people who have been driven into the street by them. San Francisco also has a high number of people going to work from their cars, and shelters. Rent in the US is a burden to millions.
I remember going to Nordstrom in San Francisco. My stepdad was a manager in the men’s department Nordstroms. In 1988 or 1989 I remember my stepfather came home, saying Joe, Montana came in to get fitted. Back then there was some homeless but far from how bad it is now.
Back when the largest Woolworths in the USA was across the street by the cable-car turnaround.
Nordstrom had four floors in the large building at Fifth & Market. Now they're leaving.
A friend of mine who is a retired teacher spoke of teaching an AP History class at a top rated public high school a few years ago. She asked her high school seniors, all of whom went on to top universities a question about the Soviet Union. Blank stares. Finally one boy asked "Is that, like, a country?"
