After reading comments about the water running low, low pressure, etc. it seems like the plan was that a certain level of fire can be handled. but the current fire is beyond expectations so there isn't anything left to do but triage what can be saved and let the rest burn itself out.
They will get their $750 checks quickly just like NC did and everything will be solved. Maybe fires are more exciting to report than water washing away neighborhoods and leaving only slabs. There are still missing bodies in NC and TN from Helene.
TIL: They haven't run dry...they are just low on pressure. Water pressure in the hills/mountains are maintained by water tanks and once those are empty from constant use, you lose your water pressure. @ It makes sense for some of that water to run to the ocean, but a lot of it should be captured in reservoirs. That’s the responsibility of our governor, City & water officials. Ironically, most of the animals & fish they’re wanting to save by allowing the water to flow to the sea, are dying in the fire or being poisoned by fire retardant and toxic ash that’s polluting washes, streams, rivers & the ocean itself.
Some of these comments are so weird. It's not uncommon for hydrants to run dry in disasters like this. Hydrants were designed for a high-rise burning at the most, not an entire city.
Honestly, if they told me I had to get out because of danger from a fire, I wouldn't want to go back. The devastation would probably give me a heart attack. I wouldn't want to go back and look at it.
California cities are built in the desert. The Santa Ana winds blast their way through Los Angeles every year. The brush and trees are usually as dry as tinder ---- so easy for the fires to ignite them and spread. ---- It would seem this is somewhat predictable !!
@@Salvonavfunny how you speak trying to sound informed. California has many different temperate climates. And you're wrong, 100 years ago there were deserts in California and still are.

Water pressure is achieved from pump systems. If power goes out, the pumps go out, the water pressure goes out. Pumping stations can also be lost to fire.
Just think if Southern California had its own Reservoir to hold enough water for the whole year it could get water during the winter months from the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta instead of that water going out into the ocean.
That’s part of it, but water plants can only process and pump so much water as well. There is 100x the normal demand right now. This would be the case in any city.
Okay, never been to California so how does a state bordered by an ocean run out of water in their hydrants? It wouldn't have to be clean water. Ocean water would work just as well, I'd think.
Hydrants operate on the municipal drinking water supply which is in no way connected to the ocean. Ocean salt water is corrosive. If you even could flow ocean water through municipal pipes, you’d have water main failure after water main failure in the years to come. You’d also not be able to treat it, and therefore risk some people drinking raw, bacteria laden water. Best use of ocean water is from helicopter air dumps over the fires.
@@GingerKing-l4v it isnt poor management there simply isnt enough water , there are 4 huge fires burning out of control with countless houses , buildings , trees , hydro poles etc all burning at once , the system can only hold so much water .
