yea gogeta had to max out before broly got too powerful or else broly would have destroyed everything considering his unique power which gets stronger as the fight goes on and he gets angrier kinda like the hulk.

Vegeta becomes a Super Saiyan God as well. When Goku and Vegeta train on Beerus's Planet, they learn how to be Super Saiyan Blue. Basically if you took Super Saiyan God and made it go Super Saiyan 1. (Frieza gets revived and has the ability to become Golden Frieza now.) Then comes the Tournament Of Power, where a bunch of Universes battle to eliminate each team from the competition. However if your team gets eliminated, the Universe gets erased. However with the Super Dragon Balls, which are the prize for winning, have no limits to the single wish you have. So the erased Universes get brought back. During the Tournament Of Power, Goku unlocks Ultra Instinct, a power that lets you move by emotion and thoughts of a martial artist. Then Future Trunks comes to tell about Goku Black, who fuses with a guy named Zamasu who wishes to be immortal with the Super Dragon balls and then destroy a lot of the human race. Vegito Blue is seen in this. Then after they beat Goku Black and Zamasu it comes to this movie.
If you didn’t understand a lil bit gogeta is literally the strongest being that goku and vegeta formed he’s literally in god tier power that’s why he was beating Broly badly and literally broly got scared when he saw that kamehameha because he knew that gogeta was going to end him so gogeta literally showed no mercy because he knew that if broly was going to continue he would’ve destroyed the world
