    As for showering, many people have annual memberships with national gyms, which allow them to visit any location. Thats where they shower.

      With a set up like his, he can park in most places unbothered.
      UNLESS you start parking in places like hotel parking lots (which are closely monitored,) storage units parking lots, public parks (looking “sketchy,” especially in a van like THAT haha.) Some visitors may be concerned; now a days. So can’t blame ‘em.
      Pretty much any place where it’s busy and constantly under surveillance, is a risk.
      Everything else he brought up, is manageable, if you’re willing.
      There was a woman “camping out” in a sedan (Honda four door I believe it was.)
      She managed to take a full shower inside that car (in freezing temps outside;) blow up kiddie pool and bucket of warm water.
      It’s doable; not necessarily comfortable, but you work with what you got.
      There’s plenty of space in that van to take a shower inside, quite “comfortably.”
      Just got to get a lil creative.

    Most were living like they were on a road trip instead of just normal life on the road. I've lived full time in a semi worn a 72" sleeper for three years now and plan to go for a total of 7-10 years. I never mind it, but there are a lot of things I have to think about that the average perfusion doesn't. I live life on the road. It's a way of life for me.

    I spent my first few years in trucking living in the truck. The only time I slept in a hotel room were the times the truck was in the shop or my off-time in seemingly random places away from my domiciled spot. The van life-lifestyle isn't for everyone. There is a certain amount of glitz and glamour to it but those things wear off fairly quick if you're going into it with the wrong intentions or full blown ignorance. The most difficult time of the year, IMO, is the summer. Heat management inside the cab/van is important. Otherwise, as you stated, you'll be sleeping in a pool of your own sweat.
    If I didn't have as much stuff as I do today, or a couple of pets, I could realistically see myself going back to the lifestyle. I live a transient life as it is and can't offer a woman stability. The instant the area I'm in is no longer good, I've already got a plan to dip out once the lease on my place is up. Also like you, I have lived in numerous states and regions. I'm currently stuck in SE PA. Plans to go back west to either ID or WA have fallen through due to circumstances out of my control. I even had a potential job offer at the Volvo plant in Gothenburg, Sweden but then Covid happened. Communication ceased. :( I'm sure you've seen the moto vloggers riding around Scandinavia. That is a beautiful place!

    I have an ex girlfriend that has a 21ft RV. We used to go camping at the lake on the weekends. Being at the lake with water hookups and electric is not so bad but even there after a few days it's hard. After so many days you have to dump the tanks. If you don't have hookups the potable water tank goes by quickly. At first she was wanting to go full time but I think she eventually realized that was going to be difficult. This is on a small RV that has proper toilet, sink and everything.

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  7 месяцев назад +2

      And her RV is way bigger than my Van. Imagine trying to live full time in a van. There are some that do but they are pretty rare. It is fun for doing trips here and there but full time van living is not fro the faint of heart. Thanks for sharing your comment and insight into small RV living.

    Couple of tricks for van life. For heat and ac get a battery box and use that to power your environmental whizbangs. Charge it off the solar panels and from the van when running. For carrying extra water get a van that has an auxiliary fuel tank and disconnect it from the fuel system. Then hook it up to your water supply should get an extra 15+ gallons. Also, and this should go without saying but, make sure to properly clean the tank before turning it into water storage.

      i'm from New Hampshire. live free or die from property taxes. just be glad you live in a free governed and protected country so you can come up with your pipe dreams in freedom and even try to live them till it doesn't work out and you go back to your funded government protected life.
      where are you going to get your acre from with the defunded government not protecting the money that you paid for your acre?

    Very sad situation going on.

  • @Shadseaweed

    Dude you are doing it wrong.
    1. You get a membership to one of those cheap gyms for 10$ for showering.
    2. You never hold onto your poop bags in the van. Toss them right after. Or get Biodegradable bags and barry them.
    3. Diesel heater will keep your van warm with toasty.
    4. You don't live in your van.... you live out of your van.

    • @jamesr9919
      @jamesr9919 2 месяца назад

      All of this. Plus, with the shower, I get the feeling he doesn't know about those extreme low-flow showers. While they don't magically create water, they definitely cut down on water use with a shower (not only do they consume less water while on, they have easy on/off switches so it's not running constantly, saving even more water).
      Also, proper airflow makes a world of difference for sleeping/being in the van. That small vent isn't going to cut it. A better way would be to have two maxxair style fans with reversable direction to have one pulling, the other pushing. Will it be like air conditioning? No. But it goes a LONG way. (that being said, that's the extreme example. I know this van was budget and attempting to be very stealthy. You can hide/mask/misdirect certain things. But Maxxair fans ain't one of them. haha).

    One needs a vehicle that you can stand up in to stick it out long term. At least for most people. Then there are those, the rare few, who live off a bike and tent it. One does gives up a lot of comfort going mobile as a general rule. At least you guys in the states have warm places to go to in the winter. Not so much in Canada.

    Everyone isn't cut out for this. I honestly could do this for the rest of my life. Then again, I've driven trucks for the better part of the last 10 years with minimum hometime. Average people with below average mental durability tried to come out and do what truckers do for a living lol.... They can't hang but it is interesting to watch for time to time. I'm eventually going to setup for this. It's a great way to see the states. Just gotta know the places to shut down for the day and learn some mechanic skills. Also, you can shower if you get fuel at truck stops. Just saying. It's not a tough life at all my guy. Live in a truck for a few years and this will all be a cake walk for you.

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks fro sharing your insight and experience. Yeah it takes a special person to do van life full time. Most truckers have homes and take breaks here and there from my understanding. I've had a few long haul trucker friends but they all had nice homes and a nice family to come back to, not endlessly living on the road forever. It is easy to get burned out living in a small space and doing mindless highway driving.

    • @durtyred86

      @CycleCruza it's not mindless. Alot of truckers have pride in what they do. Contrary to the stereotypes. Especially during relief efforts or holidays. Yea, it can be rough at times if you have a family or not actually. But some of these people spend a month out there and act like it's the end of the world for them. Also, having a family to go back to is actually what makes it hard on the road. If you're a solo type of person, it's pretty easy. I get your sentiment though. This is definitely not for everyone.

      Wal Mart parking lots are the worst to stay overnight in. Some don't allow it, you have to call and ask the manager in advance. I stayed a few times in Wal Mart parking lots and it was just too noisy and irritating for me. Most of time I stayed in motel parking lots which were much more quiet and less cars pulling in and out. However, you have to be careful because small motels keep track of the cars. The big chains with huge parking lots were the best. I have yet to get caught.

    Dude, you’re doing van life wrong 😂 I lived in my converted ambulance for over 3 years camping on BLM land. I installed a diesel heater and stayed warm in -12 degree winters. I installed a 12v solar powered AC and stayed comfortable in 100 degree summers. For poo, just use a urine separator and then bag the poo and seal it. It’s a cheap way to live as long as you stay for the maximum 2 weeks at each location. Water and food easily lasts me 2 weeks too so i stock up when i move. I also did this with 2 medium sized dogs. It’s NOT difficult.

    Find a spot in that van to store a suitable jack and wheel chocks. Changing a tire is basic stuff. You can do it!!!

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  7 месяцев назад +5

      I don't have the room and the spare tire holder are under the van and stuff rusted out. Out of all the trips I've done in the van across the country a tire blowout only happened once and that was because of buying cheap crappy tires at Firestone. A cheap man pays twice. My van was initially an experiment that turned out great. If I had to do it all over again I would have bought a new van and kept it rust free.

    Yup, very accurate,. I have a home base. So I experience that when I'm on the road. Do have a small trailer for storage and power for everything in the van. Didn't mention it's sometimes hard to find a place to camp, plus state parks have reservations booked up for a year in advance. Try planning a picnic for a year from now.

      I use cat litter but initially you get the stick hit before you toss cat litter in it. lol There are ways to make van life more enjoyable but it is still not an easy life long term. It is fun to experience the van life for a little bit but doing it for years and years is not easy, most give up after a couple years. I've been following van dwellers for about 20 years. Most of them quit and the handful that still do it upgraded to a class A, bus or large travel trailer.

    As for looking at people in houses. Dont worry about them too much. I would say quite a few are broke after paying the mortgage and insurances, food, kids, wife. Working 60+ hrs a week to tread water. Then the wifes family bitch at the guy cos he dont let their daughter/sister go over seas holidays x2 a year. Mother fkr that van and bike sure look nice haha.

      Basenjis are extremely energetic and like to chew on stuff and destroy it. She almost chewed on a wire in the van and got electrocuted. She is the wildest dog I ever owned and I owned two Basenjis in the past. However, the last Basenjis I had chewed off shingles off my house, I had to keep them in an outdoor kennel. No more dogs for me after this one. I love them but every one I get is destructive. lol
