- Thousands of people can now safely drink their tap water again after days of being told to boil it first following a parasite outbreak, the region’s water supplier has announced.
A water tank where the waterborne parasite Cryptosporidium is believed to have come from has been drained overnight after several homeowners in the same street fell ill following a cryptosporidium outbreak.
Around 16,000 households in the Brixham area of Devon were told not use any tap water without boiling and cooling it first or risk becoming unwell. It's now thought a damaged air pipe in a field containing cattle was the potential source for the outbreak.

The share holders should pay compensation to each person affected
I quite agree. but these share holders will make up some excuse just to get out of paying compensation
@@MariaFletcher-bf5pk I don't why they'd bother, it's not like this government will do anything about it.
The company would be liable for any injuries caused, so the shareholders will see their equity value fall as a result.
Damn right they should, in fact they should be taken to court by the people.
@@akizeta hello 👋. yea that's right. they only care about there selves one rule for them and no rules for citizens. thank you for replying cheers 👍
Our essential services need re nationalising!
These private owners are only interested in shareholder profits, not customers "Health"!!
Yep, they're all doing a Boeing.
Should be publicly owned like Scottish Water
It should be Muslim run, just how our government wants.
Never going to happen. Never will be allowed to happen.
@@TheTrickshot77 as long as it’s publicly owned, I don’t care who runs it as long as they’re competent.
Why is the British water company run by billionaire shareholders when it should be run by the people of Britain who actually pay bills for that Walter😅😅😅
Because imbeciles vote Tory. It was their plan from late 70s to do this to our entire infrastructure.
It was government run, then Fatcher sold it I believe.
I may be wrong, it's happened before.
@@TheTrickshot77 Of course you are right. The infrastructure was all owned by us and the filthy tories sold it off for their own profit with the lie that it would improve services, which is an effing joke.
You haven't been on Earth very long have you dear...
Think I'd wait a while personally
We were given 2ltr. bottles of water where I live and I am going to use those up before using tap water and then still boil tap water when they run out. I think youre right, best be safe than sorry. There could be more faulty valves out there!
3rd world Devon, Africans should send you donations.
If you lived there would you really risk drinking the tap water again.🤔🤮
@@Lamya65😂😂😂😂
Conifer close my water out of my tap taste delicious I'm from Scotland
I do live in Brixham and am using up my 6 2ltr bottles of water before using tap water. Actually I will probably still boil the tap water when the bottles run out. I live alone so it's no profor me to do that but families must be having a nightmare
I wouldn't drink it
Water should never have been privatised !
The families should take them to court and claim.
Nobody will be held responsible for this, don't you pay attention?
@@TheTrickshot77 I just love the fact that you are willing to take this lying down. Don’t you know you have to fight for your rights. Seems to me you just can’t be assed. I’m sure some lawyers would do pro bono work on this quite happily. Seems to me you just don’t care enough to fight.
If I was from there I would be scared to drink from my taps again
They should move to Africa.
U can jog right on if u think im drinking out of my tap...
Why is nobody questioning the farming activities that are going on so close to a drinking water facility?
The problem was with an air valve on a pipeline running under the farmer's field, not some run-off from a farm to a river running into a reservoir. Had the valve been maintained there wouldn't have been a problem. If you actually want to eat as well as drink water we need farms and farmers. The farm probably existed before the pipeline and the farmer wouldn't have any say in the water board putting it in (just as electricity companies can run wires over a farm without the farmer being able to prevent it - permitted development - look it up.
@@ColinMill1it sounds like a convenient excuse for South West Water to deflect blame on the farmer, when in reality SSW have pumping millions of gallons of raw untreated sewage into water courses for decades.
The water companies dumping sewage into rivers more like,re nationalise "our water"!
Because it's nothing to do with the farmers or the farms and everything to do with poor maintenance and sewage overflow that is supposed to be maintained by the water company..
We pay more than enough to these companies yet they are not doing their job properly

It would be interesting to view the previous year’s maintenance work from this company. Has it only been focused on stemming leaks?
Has it replaced any old pipes some of which can be up to 100 years old?
Has it done all the regular maintenance required on all the filters etc?
How much of a back long is there for maintenance jobs?
Has there been any replacement investment on mains water anywhere?
Or is there only new pipes because of building development requirements for connecting to the mains water supply?
Lots of questions need answers. We are all paying for this service for clean safe water.
Please please sue these companies!!
Seeing as people have to pay water rates I think it's only fair that anyone effected should be getting compensation
We are. £115. Generous eh?
Fact: Nobody will be held responsible for this.
Wtf does “partial lifting” mean?
For now, you can drink the water with very low risk of animal sh!t being in.
Enjoy 😂
How often do they test these water tanks? Why they took so long to realise this water contamination?
even if they say it’s safe…. Are you willing to take the risk to find out? Because I certainly wouldn’t.
They also said...
"WMD's"
"Safe and Effective jabs"
"Epstein killed himself"
Hope they are all being immediately repaid for their water bills.
This happens to our drinking water, my bills getting cancelled. End of.
Nobody should be paying for people to mismanage water ways like that.
This is a disgrace in 2024 and their customers should be compensated. Disgusting on all levels.
£115 paid on to our water bill. Gosh how generous
The C.E.O. of S.W. water will still be paid over half a million quid, a year, at least £600,000, PLUS benefits like private health insurance ++ while us peasants, who pay his wage, drink shitty water 💩💩💩
It's about time the water companies and politicians who gave them permission to pump sewage into our rivers and seas faced the courts. Big business and politicians should not be above the law go after the shareholders and bosses they have paid out bonuses and have not put enough money back into the business on upkeep and infrastructure.
yeah heard that before, everyone started to get ill, then SWW they told us that it had nothing to do with them and the water was ok to drink, following day they told us that they had found small traces of Cryptosporidium in their supply.
I just proper sh!t my pants on the bus home, my first thought was it must be the water but then I remembered I don't live in Devon or Africa.
That was quick, did they pour bleach in it?
I've had it, it's nasty
Yes, I also find the taste of animal excrement to be very unpalatable.
I knew bitcoin was a slippery slope
We are still reeling from the last pandemic and these monkeys are putting drinking water in contact with livestock. it's exactly this sort of thing that causes far more serious outbreaks. it should be impossible for that to happen.
Yeah like you can really trust the government, i would continue to boil water for a further month or two

Always Question Authority!!!!!
Does anyone actually drink tap water anyways lol.
Exactly.
The elderly and the poor.
A lot of people. Used to live in Brixham and the tap water was decent taste wise compared to anywhere else ive been (thats not to say its ever truly safe, case in point here). I think its pretty common practise for people to drink tap water, a lot of people cant afford or dont want to deal with the hassle of buying packs of water if they can avoid it.
So tap water really is that bad... I thought bottled and tap were the same
If you got a water distillery and seen the byproduct left behind in the glass, you'd probably be sick and never drink it again. There's RUclips videos of it if you're interested.
Got it
Haven’t drank tap water in years fooook that. Chemical city
As if you would ever again. I haven’t trusted the water for years.

Well that’s nice of the water company say it’s safe to drink it again. Obviously wasn’t safe although it should of been. They should be fined millions, you know that’s how much the bosses give themselves in bonuses.
And why should the people of Brixham trust anything that SW Water have to tell them. I'd stay on the bottled water.
