12ft (4m) RC USS Tennessee with her Tug, Dock and sinking River Burnett movie 2

- This is my Radio Controlled 1/48 scale Battleship, USS Tennessee BB43. She is 12ft / 4m long and I am still adding things to it. I had to build its own trailer to transport and store. She is launched and retrieved the same as a normal boat and I built her own WWII dock to park it when on the water. Together with her own Tug and a Collier cargo ship 'River Burnett' to escort, also both in 1/48 scale. River Burnett is designed to sink, then I can raise it again with a switch on on the transmitter.
The working search lights on Tennessee are surefire tactical torch heads, which puts a good solid beam of light across the water when night sailing. Besides the navigation lights she also has superstructure illumination lights together with working street lamps on the dock. All four motors are water cooled with cooling fans throughout the ship and directed out the funnel. She has her own sound system which I can play 6 different pre-recorded sounds. This includes ship announcements, 1940s music and a call to battle stations with an anti air battle. It also has pre recorded morse code that is displayed from signal lamps near the bridge. I can rotate the main gun turrets and I am about to build the firing mechanism of flash and smoke. The sound for the guns is already in the sound system. She is close to 100% scale, however not 100%, as I added things like a bow thruster etc. All of the other actions you can see in the movie.
The Tennessee is made from Timber, sheet metal, white metal, fiberglass, bits of my kids toys, anything that I could lay my hands on really. You are only limited by your imagination.
Some of the photos have been taken by a really talented photographer at the club. River Burnett was built by a very experienced model craftsman. I just gave it a birthday and added some TLC
She normally sails at the Sunshine Coast Model Boat Club, Sunshine Coast Australia.
I hope you enjoy watching as much as I have enjoyed building her.
So many things have to perfectly align for these sort of models to exist! The inspiration to start, the tenacity to keep going, the incredible attention to detail, a healthy bank account, the spare time, the knowledge, and a very understanding wife!
#1 should be the wife 🤣🤣🤣😅😅😅😅😅
Every now and then something really special comes along...this is one of those occasions! Congratulations and well done!
instaBlaster...
Thanks mate, and thankyou for viewing too
Launch, run and recovery of the Coxswains boat? No way! Bravo Zulu!
What’s a cockvein’s boat?
I think it’s the little boat that they launched at the middle of the video
@@bradpointer6134 Ask your mom
This had to be built by a salty old BM
With this level of scale detail, I wouldn't have even blinked if the main guns started firing 22LR. "Yup, checks out."
thanks for that, I have finally worked out how to get the main guns to fire just flash and smoke. The onboard sound system already has the main guns firing sound. So see how we go
@@livingthedream2221 can't wait to see it, buddy!
The ship is fantastic. The tug amazing. The freighter superb. I was sad to see it sink, and then I thought the stern seems to be rising, but nah, I'm imagining it. Then you raise her! Wow, hats off to you Aussie's!! Thank you for a wonderful video from the R/C guys here in the U.S.
Too cool. Just when you think you've seen it all.......That is off the charts!
Remarkable ✌️👍💜😊
I'm an American Navy veteran. As the other commenter said, BZ BZ BZ. Bravo Zulu! Respect!
One video on RUclips that humbled me: a modeler living in Japan made a 3 foot long INCREDIBLE replica of the USS Arizona. I don't know how to look up the video because RUclips can bring up results with titles that aren't in English. Even with the camera 10 inches away, it was difficult to tell if this was a model or a view of an actual ship if one didn't know the Arizona had been sunk. What blew me away is that although it was mostly a kit, he hand made half of the parts for it!
Thank you very much. My father served on her sister ship the California during WWII.
Unbelievable. My dad is 90 he was navy lifer, I think he was on the Iowa. He was shot on a destroyer in Korea. I visit him every Sunday can't wait to show him this. He would build wood sailing ships, has several there huge.
Glad you like it mate, give my best to your Dad and thank him for his service
My grandfather's ship! Thank you for sharing your wonderful models.
I’ve never seen a model ship designed to sink, and pump out the water and surface again. Some incredible engineering.👍
The ultimate RC boat. God I’d kill to have one of these!
Absolutely fantastic; I really liked the freighter, it's the style I like best, kind of like a coastal steamer of the early to middle 1900's. FYI the Tennessee was refitted with the 14 inch barrels of the USS Arizona so when used in the Normandy invasion it was said it was the Arizona getting her licks in. Same in the Pacific in 1945 against the Japanese. Love your models. CT, USA.
That’s a heck of a fun fact.
Looks more like a WW1/1910s 'Hog Islander'. Basically the predecessor of the Liberty/Victory ships, the ships were mass produced but often times before WW1 and by one or two companies with very minor alterations, like different masts, slightly longer than the other, that kind of stuff.
Actually it was Nevada that got the 14"/45 gun barrels from Arizona. Tennessee used 14"/50 guns, longer barrels, higher velocity, more punch.
@@USSEnterpriseA1701 You are correct. In my zeal over his model, I confused my facts. The Nevada did not have those guns at Normandy, in late '44 she received the A's
reconditioned barrels for use on Okinawa and Iwo Jima, better yet.
Thats sweet I want to build a USS North Carolina one, but not 12ft lol.
My Grandfather served aboard he sister-ship USS California BB-44 and I am absolutely in love with your interpretation of the Tennessee class of US battleships. Would love to see this model in real life!
Thankyou for your Grandfathers service. The model sails regularly at the sunshine coast model boat club. If u ever plan to visit let me know
@@livingthedream2221 the last time I was down under was 1989...port vist to Bunbury. During my first cruise in the Navy,
Attention to detail. Very impressive!
That thing is a behemoth!! Beautiful model. Can imagine the hours that went into this.
The deployment and recovery of the ship's cutter mirrored the frustration of a real recovery when trying to catch the cable. Good stuff.
Super cool! Didnt expect the .little boat to run! Awesome
I am in awe. I build ships for R/C also, but nothing on this scale. All of them are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
WOW Dream, that was incrediable...thanks for sharing your passion
It unsinking itself was the most impressive.
Mad modeling skills. ⚓️
You Sir, Are a True Artist after my own heart. Given the time: I can build like you do. My scratch built ships to date, have been built as Static Display models. I will use those talents to build the next ones to operate on water . Thank you for your inspiration. Beautiful ships!!!
Thankyou for your lovely comments. I wish you the very best and if you get stuck in your next operational build, please let me know.
@livingthedream2221 : Thank you sir. I will keep this video in my archives, and refer to you in the future. I am working on my first Tug now. It is the Happy Hunter. I am re-naming it "The Rileigh Belle" after my first born Grand Daughter.
Wow this is so awesome! Like how you can control a battleship event in day and night and how you can control another mini boat from the battleship. NICE!
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you are or were an engineer by trade. If not you should have been. Very impressive work and attention to detail. Love the different Morse codes and the scale dock. Plus the sinking ship that recovers on it’s own is just amazing. I know how much work went into all of this and I still can’t believe it. Absolutely top notch work and amazing craftsmanship.
Cheers for the nice comments, no never been an engineer. Funnily enough, I was a soldier for a long time lol. But I do enjoy trying to work out challenges. Finally sorted the main guns firing, just need to install it all when I get a chance.
Man you knocked it way out of the park with them boats
Wow and WOW again they was all smashing really great thank you for sharing with us all great Vlog
Out of all that incredible modelling, it was the r/c pinnace that really blew me away! Amazing, and obviously NOT a model to be seen blatting away with bb guns in the local club boating pond.
no she would destroy them.....🤣🤣
Even has working bilge discharge outlets. Very cool!
This is truly amazing. Congrats to living thedream!!
Very impressive build! Thanks for sharing.
I’ve always wanted to scratch build a tramp steamer I’ll get around to it very seen, nice work Sir
Very, very cool. Awesome work. Thanks for showing us your work. From Tn USA. THANKS.
Stunning! I never saw a model that could sink and refloat before. Awesome.
A submarine maybe? :)
@@dieselyeti Exactly! How did you guess? I never saw a R/C sub before. It must be telepathy!
1:30 When the reflection of the birds flying by above the horizon provides scale birds to the scene, that’s over the top.
I don't think you can call this a scale model at this point, it's a ship of its own right. Godamn. You're a madman, but one we need in the community.
Amazing, what craftsmanship it took to build these. Very impressive and my hat 👒 off to you .
Very cool, love the detail, have a connection to the ship as my father served on her 1942 thru 1946.
We thank your father and your family for his service. God bless
Thankyou for your Fathers service, a quick question for you, where was she when Japan surrendered?
@@livingthedream2221 if I remember right dad said on patrol in Yellow Sea. Dad passed in 2001, so I'm going by memory.
@@one4flight Thanks for that
As I recall she was in Buckner Bay, Okinawa on VJ Day (the day Japan surrendered) Aug 14, 1945. The surrender ceremony in Tokyo Bay was held on September 2, 1945 but Aug 14 is the actual day the Japanese surrendered. USS Pennsylvania was torpedoed in Buckner Bay on Aug 12, 1945 with Admiral Oldendorf aboard. He had just transferred his flag from Tennessee to Pennsylvania on the morning of Aug 12 and Pennsylvania was torpedoed that evening around sunset. On Aug 13, 1945, Oldendorf transferred his flag back to Tennessee from Pennsylvania. At that time the old battleships were designated under Battleship Squadron 1. By 22 September Tennessee was stationed at Wakayama, Honshu Japan accepting the surrender of Vice Admiral Hoka and Rear Admiral Yofi. Hope the info helps.
Amazing, you are a very gifted modeller
Wow.
Takes O scale to new level.
This should be in a museum so in 2222 , We could say there was a person in 21th century , whom was worthy of exultancy......
Lol, nice mate lol
Now THAT is commitment! Beautifully done!
River Burnett looks like a Liberty ship! Needs war time paint and the gun tubs on the bow,the bridge wings and the fantail! Cool sinking action! I love that you made it dewater itself!!!!
Pearl Harbor Überlebender! Wunderschöne einfach unglaublich ! Daumen hoch, für ein gutes Video.
Hammer aufnahmen klasse gemacht... Herzliche Glückwünsche ! Super tolles Projekt in der Tat. Einfach klasse, Modellbau auf höchstem Niveau. Gruß aus Amerika!
A real masterpiece!
HOLY CRAP! Your RC battleship has a RC motor whaleboat? That's so amazing! Thanks for the video.
Incredible. Outstanding.
the sinking and coming up again is incredible! Chapeaux!!!
Wow pretty impressive a lot of hard work went into these miniatures. Great video thanks for sharing 👍

Incredible detail and the ship that sinks and raises?! WOW that's really Cool 😎 Incredible detail and craftsmanship 👍🏻
A gentleman from our church served on that ship. Was there at Pearl Harbor.
Absolutely incredible!! No word's...

Just Wow...yes...Wow!

Tremendous! Thank you.
Good job guy !!!
I'm totally amazed!
spectacular modeling.
She went down with the screw still turning!
OK, pretty cool, but you'll be really badass when you make a full-scale version.
Right? I am halfway done on my 2:1 scale and feel like I overshot the mark though.
Wow. Just....wow! Well done sir.
Wow that is awesome!!!
Wow, that was incredible. If I was in Australia I would have to make it a point to go see it.
I'm into R/C Airplanes BUT, this was Excellent ! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Absolutely ridiculous, I LOVE IT !

Super Cool
Dude for my next birthday i want this as my birthday present
What an awesome build, your attention to detail is outstanding! we'll done bud
absolutely amazing......
👏👏 amazing detail. 👌
Fantastic. I want to see the guns shoot BBs.
I once saw a bigger scale battleship which I suspect used a canoe as a hull. A person climbed into part of the superstructure and drove it around a freshwater boatyard.
Based on the houses and huge lake the extra time on hand, this guy is rich
Lol, well I certainly wish I was, but no, just middle income. The Lake is at the Sunshine Coast Model Boat Club in Queensland Australia
@@livingthedream2221 sorry when i see big houses, big lake, expensive hobby, lot of time on hand, it makes me think of rich people
This is stupidly cool, all I have is a RC USS Wasp LHD-1, and your Tennessee dwarves it
