No wonder Finland is the happiest country, this looked so chill and relaxing. Thank you for taking us a long, the production quality was top notch, and I felt immersed in the video! Great job, Marc!
Cheers Parker, it certainly was chilled and relaxing, all the hard work of cutting/chopping/clearing is a workout worth the effort. I guess thats what also makes it so much more rewarding, rather than flicking a switch on/off.
Marc, my morning shower routine is nothing compared to your beautiful sauna scenes. "Sisu" resilience, grit and determination were all captured. If there is any activity that defines what Finns most enjoy about life, you nailed it! We felt the quietness, the space and the nature around you. Well done ! Embrace the peacefulness of your surroundings. Cheers:))
What a beautiful comment, and also such a correct comment. Thats exactly what I wanted to capture with the video, Finnish 'Sisu'! I'm so happy to hear that you felt that, without me telling it :)))))))
I must say I am very jealous Marc. Apart from plunging into the ice that looked so relaxing. What a beautifully shot video such a lovely way to share the true sauna experience with us. Thanks for sharing bro! 😎🤘🏻
Thanks Ben! it would have done your legs a world of wonder after your 50k effort, congrats by the way 💪. I watched Dans video, but thought I'd space yours and Chirs's out so I don't watch the same-is journey 3 times in a row 😆.
@@runningwithmarc I bet it would have Marc. I wish I had a sauna like that at my house. Thank you very much. It was much more successful than novembers attempt. I think running without a fractured shin helped a lot 🤣 I don't blame you mate. Dans is the best one of the 3 so it's all down hill from there 🤣 keep the awesome videos coming mate! 😎🤘🏻
The sounds in this video. Tha crackling of the fire and the constant hum of the fire in a sauna is something so very relaxing. Electric sauna can never be the same.
Actually older and more original style saunas are silent when you bathe in them. Savusauna (smoke sauna) is used when wood is already burned under the stones and ashes removed. "Kertalämmitteinen", "pönttökiuas", "aitokiuas" and similar refer to sauna that has a stove working similar to smoke sauna but smoke being removed through chimney. These predate continuously working stoves by centuries, or thousands of years in case of smoke sauna. Electric saunas are a compromise, they bring you the heat but not the full feeling, I agree.
Proper sauna! Siting the sweat lodge at the edge of a lake is key. In the summer, you can just run off the dock naked and jump in the water. In the winter, you cut a hole in the ice -- like this guy did -- to have a cold soak. Or, if you're lazy, just roll in the fresh snow. Thanks for posting this beautiful video.
So in the summer you can off the docks in the water naked, that sounds amazing I always wanted to jump in the water naked feels nice may sound weird by saying that.
holy crap everything about that looks great, the scenery, the building, the sauna. I had a stayover in vantaa some years ago and decided to spend a few days catching up with an old friend. The first thing he suggested we do was use his sauna he had built. He did 3 or 4 "rounds" not sure of the proper term of going in and cooling down then finished up with a beer and some sausages. I could only manage 2 and felt exhausted but great the next day!
Feels so good just to relax, naked and warm in the sauna and in the summer I could find a lake where no one is around and jump in the lake naked I would feel like a animal.
My great grandmother came to America from Helsinki. I've been to American "saunas", but just once, I want to try a traditional Finnish sauna experience. I use the sauna at the gym. Everyone else is wearing their bathing suits or even gym clothes!
Incredible footage Marc!! The area looks similar to our area in Northern Michigan... we jump in the ice all the time... and yes exactly the way you did it.. all natural!! lol keep up the awesome job!! Is this a resort or what kind of place are you at?????
I appreciated the effort taken to edit this with so many different angles and shots. Truly captivating watch. A question about the sauna - doesn’t the metal door get too hot to touch? You handled it without gloves.
Cheers Dan, always happy to put in the time to share some of my world and hopefully provide some value/enjoyment/help for people. I'm lucky to have such great people along with me on my journey, like yourself. About that Sauna metal door, yes it gets hot, at the beginning it's not that hot, but after a while certainly wouldn't touch it. I think at one point you see me opening and closing it with a piece of wood, and when having more saunas later on, I usually use my towel that you saw me lay down to sit on..... also I have, when I first moved here, made the mistake of touching the handle when hot 🥵
I set my hot tub to the lowest setting of 59f and my oil fired sauna set at 170f, nirvana. All at my house, built it myself, labour of love for sure. I converted a wood stove to an oil furnace with rocks on top, never had such an effective efficient quick sauna. 2000sq foot capacity oil burner heating only 60sq, amazing.
I love sauna. I am from Norway. But I really wanna go on sauna holliday to Finland. Lakes, woods, saunas, looks lovely. Going from snow and ice and to sauna looks amazing. And being naked in sauna is very relaxing and comfortably. Much better than a wet shorts that gnaw between the legs
Greetings Marc from 🇬🇧, wow this looked absolutely amazing & good job. I was in heaven watching this, I have a Harvia Barrel Sauna in my back yard and all the family use it. My dream is to one day visit Finland and spend a week visiting the best Saunas in your wonderful county. All our love from these shores, Martin.
One the best sauna experience video I have seen this far. Also props for not using towel or swimsuit in sauna, that's always deal breaker for me, as sauna is meant to be experienced with out any clothing.
I was waiting to see when he was going to light the fire... with a lighter or a match. As soon as he pulled out the matches, I smiled. Good man! 😊 *LIKE*
Thanks for doing this! I will always remember my first time doing a winter Finnish sauna. The only thing missing was the steam coming off your back as you walked down to the lake. Must have been warmer?? Once we didn't have a lake and we rolled in the snow! 😂
That is a really astute observation! Yes it was probably 0c, and when filming sometimes it takes a while to move the camera around and such, so I'd probably lost that steaming edge. Super cool you got to experience that.
If i had to complain about just one thing, i'd recommend not throwing the water immediately in the sauna. I'd recommend a good 5-10 minutes to soak up the initial warmth and let your skin get accustomed to it. I was told this by my grandpa who is a member of a society of sauna-goers. Otherwise, a great video.
Such a wonderful video, Marc. It's a cliche to say, but I genuinely believe you deserve more subscribers. Also: I was sure you were going to ice-fish from that hole and thought "Marc you're making that hole way too close to land!!" before figuring out your plan 😄 What are your plans for 2021 as far as races and other projects are concerned?
Thanks a lot :) haha, there were plenty of fishermen on the ice out in the middle of the lake, quite funny to see them moving around and drilling holes in random places. 2021still haven't decided on everything, I think like a lot of people, trying to just jump into a few things at the last minute due to the circumstances. But at the moment I am signed up for Ultra Pirineu 100km +6600m again in October, which I really am looking forward too, I love that event and place. Regards the rest, I just downloaded a mind mapping tool, and have put some of my ideas for some adventures that I want to do solo, some are quite challenging, and of course this is all shared with all you cool people :))))) what about yourself, what's planned for 2021?
