A german general once said: I would rather fight against an American regiment instead of two drunk Canadian soldiers in an alley. An allied general once said: Give me a Canadian regiment, American supply lines and a bottle of whiskey and I will conquer the world. A German general said that his soldiers were very afraid of Canadians assaulting Monte Cassino in Italy.
I saw a quote that went something like this: Goebbels said, if the Allies want to take Berlin, give the Canadians, a motorcycle, a bottle, and tell them Berlin is off limits. I did some searching but cannot verify. Any ideas?
The British wanted to drive through Ortona (I suspect Montgomery wanted a breakthrough on his end of the front to encircle the Germans and, more importantly for his ego, get to Rome before the Americans). So he sent the 1st Canadian Division in against the 1st German Airborne Division. It took a month, a lot of anti-tank mines (to blow holes through walls), hand grenades and brutal close quarters combat... but the German Airborne troops were forced out (those that survived) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ortona
Lord Haw Haw was a Brit who was a Nazi radio personality during the war. He broadcast in English to the continent. One of the things he said on air was, "If the Allies were serious about winning the war they would tell the Canadians there is beer in Berlin."

In WW1 the German army called Canadian soldiers sturmtruppen. Imagine how scary on the battlefield you would have to be for the enemy to refer specifically to you as storm troopers.
A quick addon- my Uncle fought across Europe with his mates and helped liberate Holland. My dad's brother fought in Korea. He and two other guys volunteered to go across the lines after midnight and bring back a Chinese soldier each (my Uncle and his mates carried only a bayonet). Night after night they'd bring them back and reconstruct their knees and hands till the proper info was dragged out of the Chinese soldiers. My Uncle always said he was never afraid of the N Koreans, but the freakin' Chinese- different story, 'cause there was always so damned many of them.

Much respect to our Canadian brothers from an Aussie. In regards to the title of this, I cannot help but feel that any near peer enemy would give any western countries modern military a run for their money. We have all become way too used to fighting insurgents that hit and run or leave an IED and then disappear back into the population. If we ever had to fight a modern Russia or China or Germany, I think we would be in for a shock. Not saying we would lose but we sure would have to re-evaluate what was important.

The final 100 days of the First World War - from 8 August to 11 November 1918 - came to be known as the Hundred Days Offensive. But the Canadian Corps' significant contributions along the Western Front generated the name "Canada's Hundred Days." During this time, Canadian and allied forces pushed the German Army from Amiens, France, east to Mons, Belgium, in a series of battles - a drive that ended in German surrender and the end of the war. WWI put Canada on the World's Stage for the 1st time. WWII had enhanced expectations from Allies for Canada.
Seeing everyone in the comments about America makes me smile widely, I wish you people would read up on what happens to Canadians when they hear the word "War". Our great and great-great grandparents were death machines there! I would've loved being another soldier and just siting back, watching the Canadians demolish the defenses!

From Britain's shore
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia's flag
On Canada's fair domain.

My great grandfather served in the Second World War, in the Royal Canadian Navy, sadly we lost him in 09. It makes me glad when people recognize Canada.

Small but mighty. My grandfather fought in Dieppe and lived, he was one of two regiments to successfully capture their objective (The Casino).
wow,,,,,,,,,,bravo a votre grand pere il est un grand hero chapeau !
If we were talking world war 1 than.... we were the reason the entente won pretty much.
I’m Canadian and proud of it #canadaforever❤️
Me too! Damn proud of it!
I am an Ukrainian born, US soldier. Back in 2010 served in Afghanistan with some Canadian soldiers. Great guys. We are still keeping in touch. Love you and your country!
So the Ukrainian Canadian soldier stereotype is true, hmmm.
merci ! les canadien sont brave et courageux mais pas beaucoup de film sur nous qui demeuront humble !!! petite armée mais fin stratege !
How still watching 2019
A german general once said: I would rather fight against an American regiment instead of two drunk Canadian soldiers in an alley. An allied general once said: Give me a Canadian regiment, American supply lines and a bottle of whiskey and I will conquer the world. A German general said that his soldiers were very afraid of Canadians assaulting Monte Cassino in Italy.
I've heard it said that German commanders were overheard saying- FIGHTING CANADIAN SOLDIERS IS LIKE FIGHTING DEMONS
fairy tales. The US won WWII. Period.
It took a month, a lot of anti-tank mines (to blow holes through walls), hand grenades and brutal close quarters combat... but the German Airborne troops were forced out (those that survived)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ortona
Lord Haw Haw was a Brit who was a Nazi radio personality during the war. He broadcast in English to the continent. One of the things he said on air was, "If the Allies were serious about winning the war they would tell the Canadians there is beer in Berlin."
We're not finished yet boyos. We have a great country here. We must remove the little potato. The world is laughing at us.
As a Canadian, I’m proud knowing we made our opponents scared when they heard we were on our way.
Canada under Trudeau trains Chinese troops in Canada!
These Bravehearts fought communist china and we will have to again !
Support Taiwan independence 🇹🇼
you realize it was harper's government that initiated this, right? didn't hear you piping up back in 2013 when harper's government signed a military cooperation agreement with China to train Chinese soldiers in the art of winter warfare. Trudeau and his gang were the ones who put a stop to this. Or does this reality not align with your ideology?
To all that served .
Thank you for your sacrifice !!

this gave me goosebumps could have done with out music lyrics and have only the music...but man seeing our troops in perfect form was nice to see...thank you for putting this video up
Canadians had a reputation in Vimy Ridge as ferocious!
Even Churchill said this about the allied forces.
Proud to be Canadian and even more excited to join up when i can!

I was 15 years in the military.. and in the 2nd Battalion RCR for 8.. I loved it, I remember going to Vermont to do a course that other country came to do as training..we did about 8 hours as fast as we could..at the finish the American soldier. said you did that faster than anyone has ever done it, we said we didn't know there was a time..always 100%.
When we had the 3rd largest navy in the world and 1 million people in service.
Also had 4th largest airforce

Still very strong bond between Canada and Netherlands, every year since WW2 Dutch send 1000's of tulip bulbs to Ottawa as thanks for taking German surrender 👍🍺🍷
Canada gave shelter to the Dutch royal family. In fact a Princess was born in a room in a hotel in Ottawa that was Dutch territory for a while.
Much respect from belgium, the canadians liberated my city.

Good job on the edits to music! It took away the howdy doody feel that's often accompanied with the "canadian" image and gave it the serious business end of things feeling. We weren't there to win hearts and minds, we went to win and end it!
Soldiers love a clear mandate. Toronto politicians hate it.

I’ve always thought how people say that the soldiers are so brave (which they are) but imagine the photographers that only have a little pistol going into the battle with them
America: we have the best military CANADA: um take a look at this
My bf is in the military so I can agree Canadian is the best military
And yes America has the best EQUIPPED military, but Canada is the best trained!!!
Germany: We'll starve Britain out
Canada: send whale boats with food
Germany: Sink them with U-boats
Canada: Checkmate Germany! We cracked your Enigma code
Germany: uhhhhh....bye.
Poland actually cracked the enigma code in ww2
Awesome vid, keep up the good work
Friendly reminder the Canadians captured/secured their landing zone (Juno Beach) faster than everyone else on D-Day.
They even had to pull back so the rest could keep up with them...
We are like Americans, but more trained, more deadly, and less care for our own lives within Combat. America would shit push Canada easy, but without Canada? Russia threatens America. Best part is that uh, America needs Canada to function at full capacity, do you have any idea how much trading goes between US and CA?
not really, the canadian commander care too much for their soldier which prevent a lot of death. carefull planing was a priority for them.
roftar yeah, without careful planning troops would just go into war not knowing what they are getting themselves into, besides, Canada’s population wasn’t that big back then as it is now
@@insertsomethingcreativeher5319 is that sarcasm or are you asking for a proof of what i'm saying? It's hard to guess from here.

Canadian and Polish Army are the best WW2 Army in the world.
Canadians devoted themselves in World War II from the very beginning, they did not ask why, they just fought.
For this, Poles have fought on every front since the beginning of the war. They fought as bravely as Canadians.
What's the conclusion? It is not worth messing with Canada and Poland.
