Bruce good video I use a butter fly net it is the best thing I have ever bought if u get 1 get metal not plastic the plastic will break if the swarm is real heavy, i then I dump them in a transport box and that is a deep box with a couple of used frames, it has a screen bottom and a screen top so they will not over heat and take them to my house when I get there I just have to remove the frames and put them in the hive I set up for them. I have found it to be the easest way for me thanks for the vedio it was great have a blessed week.
rule #134 ...dont miss the tote....just teasin nice catch ,always keep foundation drawn frames, bucket, and totes,or hive butler, sugar water sprayer, n queen clip ,and a QMP noodle,to coerce a swarm where you want it(latex gloves)...im on #4 ,todays was tiny, ill be adding some brood,or combining to a queenless colony, lots of drones, and multiple queen cells right now, splitting like crazy
When I first started watching RUclips, most swam catchers used bed sheets to catch those they that miss the catch box. Plus easier to spot the queen are queens.
It does work well. I had a sheet in my truck last year. I like that technique better. But did not have a sheet with me on that day. Really did not think I would see a swarm. I went through all the hives at that spot today and have no idea where that swarm came from.
@@brucesbees You should have called a movie studio! "Hey, I have an idea for a movie and ...uh ...just come over real fast...it's alive and it's moving!"

I don't remember, but I do/ have watched numerous videos. It voids the queens Pheromones...and again, I did try it on a swarm or two that I shook down...bees were no longer interested in that branch/ branches
Last year I did that. Didn’t have one with me that day. Wasn’t expecting to catch a swarm. Was just going to spend a little while there peek in on the hives. Had no idea this would happen as the bees had barely returned from pollination.
I’m wondering your thoughts on why you didn’t fill the bottom box with frames before you poured them in there? (I would have done the same thing being excited about the size of the swarm and also, it’s easier on this side of the camera to think of that anyway.)
I got to experience meeting flight it was pretty cool I never knew the queen would pick up that many bees seen it coming through the air pretty fast she landed on a tree and it look like all the bees stuck to the tree along with her so I was thinking swarm until she took right back off and went into her box
Shook a swarm out of a blackberry bush tonight. Forty five minutes before dark with a thunderstorm moving in fast. So we didnt have time to try and find the queen. Had drawn comb in the box, shook them in put the lid on, had bees fanning and they almost all had gone in. So we walked off only to come back 20 minutes later and the entire swarm had moved from inside the box to the outside in the rain. Guess they already had a destination in mind and didnt want the easy home.
@@brucesbees well the bees stayed on the outside of the box overnight in the rain, rain didnt quit till 8 am. In the afternoon they were still around so my brother went through them and found the queen and put her in a cage and plugged the end with a marshmallow. All the bees finally went inside, and have been moved into there new position in the bee yard.
How about waiting a couple of days to release that captured queen. By that time you could check to see if there are eggs in the frames. If so, you could split those bees.
I checked them today. No eggs. Not sure if she was mated or not but she was pretty good sized. There were a fair number of bees in the clip so I didn’t actually see her but the bees that were in the clip are now in the hive. They seems perfectly happy. I think we will see impressive growth soon. At least I hope so.
Next time, why don’t you just use a pair of hand pruning chairs and clip that branch then lower it in I’m not a beekeeper just making a observation. I may be wrong.
That is a huge swarm. Really good video. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Yeah it was very nice. Thanks for checking in!
Probably one of the coolest swarm captures I've ever seen. At least 10lbs.
Thanks for checking in Brian. It was fun.
Love swarm season so much fun. Free bees
Yep. So much fun!
That is awesome. Nice catch for sure. Glad to see with as much time as they spent on the ground that you were able to find the queen.
Yeah it was cool. Worked out good.
That looked like every bit of 7 to 10 pounds of bees to me. Definitely a nice swarm and catch. Thanks for sharing.
I think you are right.
A great find.
Yes it was something else!
Wow....a nice one!!!! Never get tired of seeing them march in a box. That hive's gonna be a comb drawing machine!!!
I hope they stay in the box. If so they should be amazing!
WOW ! All that beautiful bee footage
Yep. It was cool!

It is crazy how that can happen.
Love watching bees marvh. Great swarm capture, Bruce!
Yes! It was fun as heck. Never a dull moment.
Praise God,look what he gives us. That’s great.

Yes it was awesome !
So cool. That is a big one
Yep. Good times!
❤ Awesome catch!
Thanks!
Awesome catch Bruce! That was a lot of bees!
Yes it was fun!
Good recovery! Need to have half dozen q clips. I have nabbed that many in whopper swarms.
Not a bad plan. I should do better at that but usually just let them figure it out.
Great catch Bruce! Every bit of 10 lbs! That’s larger than any swarm I’ve ever seen or caught! Love this video. They never get old!
Yes it is always fun. This one was huge. Thanks for checking in Ashby.
Congrats on Free Bees
Thanks! Fun stuff!
That’s a massive swarm Bruce congratulations
Yes it was huge. Thanks for checking in.
Man, that is so darn cool watching them march.
I never get tired of it.

Looks like an awesome swarm!

I read you try to use a bed sheet on planned swam catches. My bad, but it might help someone reading comments.

Why didn’t hold the tote and shake at the same time? Huge swarm.
Not a bad idea but that thing was heavy. Fortunately it all worked out.

I've seen that one, that must have been where I saw it, But I Do pay attention😁😂
Yes am I appreciate it. I have never seen anyone else utilize this technique. But it sure worked that day. B
I keep an old white bed sheet in my truck. It makes it easier to see the queen if she is in the March.

Actually that would hav been a good idea and I hadn’t even thought about it until I read this comment. Might have worked out better. Thanks!
Bruce, I think you’re ready to make a couple of slits! I’m trying to figure out if that was a big ole good one or a good ole big one. lol
I hear ya lol. I hope they stayed in the box!
Keep us updated please
Will do. They were still in there today.
I try to put a drop cloth under a hive box before I shake a swarm down. =I ALWAYS MISS WHERE EVER I WANT TO SHAKE BEES.
No doubt lol. Didn’t have a sheet or drop with me. But fortunately it all worked out ok.

Hey that is great news. If you find the queen that generally keeps them home. Glad it worked out for you!
You should see the swarm I got about 2 weeks ago it ended up filling 6 full double brood boxes

Wow. That’s amazing. The year of the monster swarm!
The biggest swarm I've ever seen. I never get tried of watching them march in.
It was certainly impressive for sure. It never gets old!
That is a huge swarm!!! You didn’t have a box?
Oh never mind I see now. 😮
Hey Bruce, did you split those bees by chance? I was just curious.
No. They are all in there. And we’re doing well earlier today (4 days later)
Wow. If you had queens, you could make ten colonies out of them.
True. But I am hoping I can get a little honey off them.
How about waiting a couple of days to release that captured queen. By that time you could check to see if there are eggs in the frames. If so, you could split those bees.

OMG, why couldn't back the truck directly under that branch ! LMAO As soon as they were on the ground you should have looked for the Queen
I did look for the queen. Obviously could have done things differently. But it worked out well.
Wow! What a monster. One of your colonies is now empty.
Yes. Have no idea which one.
I wish
You never know. Been keeping bees 10 years and I think it’s the biggest I have ever seen.
Clipping the brunch probably would have been more helpful
Maybe so. But it worked out fine in the end.
Name it the " Nuclear Holocaust " of Swarms
Haha. Thanks for watching!

Not a bad thought. This was a huge swarm though. So it worked out ok. But your idea probably would have worked too.
Cut the limb & put it in the tote.
Wasn’t prepared to cut the limb and things worked out ok.
@@brucesbees thumbs-up 👍
Boy, your basketball skills ain’t too good! But, you got it done. Congratulations!
No doubt lol. I was never very good at basketball though I played a lot back in the day. Haha. And it’s obvious I am still not very good.
Should have cut the limb dang.
Didn’t come prepared to cut the limb.
