THANK YOU for not adding cottage cheese!!!! the way it should be made is ONLY with feta as a greek growing up this is the proper way to make this...........thank you
Wow, this video is so great. I just got married not too long ago to my Greek husband and all he talks about is when his mother used to make spanacopita from scratch. I think I will make these for him from scratch and surprise him on his Birthday. Thank you for making these wonderful videos I am learning so much from you. I am Italian and I enjoy cooking a lot. This recipe will be welcome addition to my recipe collection.
thank you. I too am Italian and my husband is Greek. Practice makes perfect with the phyllo but WOW, it's amazing. I recommend, layering each piece with parchment or plastic so they don't stick together. Let me know how you make out.
Hi, I saw ur comment and just wanted to share a quick story. I saw u say u loved watching ur Yiayia make spanikopita, but u explained yiayia! ❤ I am a "black" woman from Philly and although I have never really had many Greek or Italian friends, I always thought I was different. "Glad u asked, what I mean". 🤣 I told my children that I want to b called Yiayia IF they ever have children and that once they do, Im just gonna start wearing a babushka 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ Imagine my surprise when I realized "THAT" is Russian. (I like the word tho 😔)
@@AquaDanielle wow.. no school system working in your country then?? hope.your children are taught better than you were at school., hope Is failing as it is for future generations 😟
Hi Shereen - Thank you for this amazing recipe! I have them baking in the oven right now!!! It was my first time making filo, and I ruined 9 of the sheets, but the others made it through. I was trying to minimize the amount of cornstarch as I thought you suggested, but that made the sheets stick together during the first stacked roll out. They become stringy when I tried to pull them apart to flour them page-by-page. I realized you were using more cornstarch then I was, and luckily the second batch survived. The filling is DELICIOUS! Thanks for a great recipe!
Thank you I can’t wait! I’ve been looking for a cook like your for years. My style! I call it “Instant Gourmet” A few ingredients that anyone can keep on hand and serve family or guest at anytime! And the most important ingredient with every dish is “love”. A heart filled Jesus is always a dish served with love🌸💗 Blessings and have a wonderful day!
My aunt made these exactly like how you did and yes I agree HOMEMADE IS BETTER! Found you from Tik tok and I am obsessed! This is the first of your RUclips videos I am watching and I plan on binging the rest when I finish typing this comment ❤️
_Ahh this is a classic Greek treat! I admit I usually would buy this ready made from a deli but this is inspired me to pop the ingredients on my shopping list. Did you hear that? Inspired!_
I made this for my two boys yesterday! I had to use store-bought filo but I was surprised at how big the sheets were so I folded them in thirds. They were delicious! Now it's one our family favorites! I also made corn, cheese and ham ones!
I am a broke college student living in a dorm with no cooking area. watching this and salivating anyway, can't wait to go home for the holidays and make this!
Thank you so much for this recipe and the phyllo dough recipe. I dated a boy in college whose father was from Greece and he made me these every time I visited. He gave me the recipe but in the various moves I made after we broke up, I lost the recipe. It has been over thirty years and I teared up watching you make both recipes! Bless you!
They saw we eat with our eyes, which I totally agree with, but we also eat with our ears and man o man!!! Crunch-tastic! Thanks for sharing that part too!!! Love your lessons!!!
I have tried and failed with other recipes, but yours look (and sound!!) SO beautiful, that I must try at least one more time with your recipe and step-by-step instructions. Wish me luck!!
Spanakopitakia are the triangle ones spanakopita is the pie version! Looks awesome, liked my Yiayia used to make. My Papoulie didn't like fill, so she used mint. Also very good! ❤️
I love your videos. Found you on Tik Tok and have been obsessed with your channel since. Thank you for explaining everything! Makes cooking so much more interesting
There's a similar food here in Saud Arabia which the Arabs serves usually in Ramadan for their breaking of fast (Iftar) called "Sambosa". But they are dip fried. Sambosas are so good, but I want to try this recipe too.
That looks delicious! I watched your Filo pastry video to use it to make "pizza snacks" for my husband from scratch because I won't let him eat those totino's pizza rolls with the sketch ingredients. NOW I must make this next. Oh my....Thank you so much. You are so pleasant to learn from. God Bless you.
Shereen you’ve truly outdone yourself with this one! Those came out better than perfect! I was like 🤔 I can get store-bought filo and then you said “homemade is better... just sayin” as if you read my mind! You’re so right. It’s worth it. TFS ❤️
I was married to a Greek man. His mom taught me how to make this dish and others. The one thing she didn’t teach me was how to make Fakee (?). Do you have a recipe for it? My husband passed away and I miss all the dishes he made for us. He loved to cook.
being greek my mom (god rest her soul) used to make this often and it would dissappear in minits!! she also made it with flour dough which was even better to me !
